"Google" The EVO Update As I'm Not Allowed to post links.. BOO.
The EVO gets 2.2 presumably with the SenseUI on August 3rd.. When this is released is there any chance that we will see this flavor of custom rom for our Hero devices?! Hopefully Darch and the other XDA experts wont let us go without.. We can ONLY HOPE!! Hint, Hint, Nudge, Nudge.. Surprised there isn't a leak already.. Or is there!?
There is, i am running full 2.2 100% working on my Evo, and HTC also posted the update.zip on their website, but Devs from the Evo have had sense working for awhile now, but it still hasn't been ported over because of the huge differences in frameworks
I really wish I knew what people liked about SenseUI. It just seems so bulky and slow to me.
darchstar told me many times tonight there will be no 2.2 sense port for the hero. (from the evo) the arch is different
Nfinitefx45 will be working on porting 2.2 sense here soon

Thanks for the info!
I flipped through the EVO dev forum (reluctantly) and saw that they are already up and running on the latest froyo build which is awesome! I'm glad to see that all hope is not lost and that there will be some development for 2.2 with sense. To answer Zardos66 I personally like the facebook contact linking and the look of the UI. It has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with functionality and usefulness. The SenseUI is a bit clunky but I haven't found a happy medium with any of the roms that don't have the SenseUI. Just something I'd like to see and If it can be done I trust that the XDA Pros will knock it out of the park.. I'm very excited to see what can be made of this!! XDA FTW!

Im running senses, i've tried an aosp rom, it just didn't feel right, i guess i got used to sense.
But will install cm6 when darch gets into the RCs.

Even with OC, Sense still lags. It's is easy to mimic with less ram taken up.
Launcher pro
2x4 people widget - free
Messaging Widgets - free
Weather and toggle widgets - $1.99
feels good man.
Supposedly we can't port the EVO 2.2 release over to the Hero because the EVO build is designed for a much faster processor. Our Hero couldn't handle such a port without A LOT of tweaking....in other words, almost impossible.
Whenever the HTC Legend gets their 2.2 release, that is probably the build that the devs here will try to port over for us. A couple people have already committed to doing this.

Darch released RC0 a few builds ago, i am currently running Not my dog too build and all is pretty well. Camera app is still pretty much useless but Camera Magic is a quick fix. The gallery is pretty messed up with auto rotate and such, but aside from pictures it is a MAJOR improvement over eclair. My Hero runs like a champ!
does it change anything that the desire got a sense 2.2 today also?

no still built on the snap dragon processor and is HDPI (high res) this is why we are waitng on the legend , it is the cousin to the hero in terms of processor and the fact that it is our exact resolution MDPI (medium). the legend is supposed to be on froyo within the next two months.

If it is gonna be anything like eclair release, I'm not holding my breath till around christmas, which is when the next major version of Android is supposed to be released. I bet by that time Sprint drops all support for their 6 month old Evo like they did with out Heroes, too!
Sigh I want froyo with sense.

the bottom line is the hero should of got the 2.2 update. sprint isn't doing a good job of supporting their phones at all. i owned the evo for a week and while i liked the speed & size the pitfall was the battery life. none of the tweaks worked and you had to disable every feature of the phone.
The nexus one looks so good. Still. So much support for it. Being googles baby it will probably get gingerbread. Just saying almost a year old and still one of the best phones. ("Did I get ripped off?" I sometimes wonder)
i just heard droid users are getting froyo today. this is a bunch of bull**** and im pissed at htc. i should of kept my evo. talk about dropping the ball with the hero!
There will be no port from the Ego since there's wayy to much things to change its almost impossible, but our hope of 2.2 is from the legend!

Well the last craze to get updated to Froyo seems as though it may end up being short lived as I came across this today: http://www.androidcodex.com/gingerb...edium=rss&utm_camp aign=gingerbread-is-coming
2 months for a GB release, then we wait for root (which might be very quick) and/or wait for HTC to Sense-ify GB, then we get it on the Evo. Froyo's got a few months left in it - about as long as Eclair had on the Evo.
Or maybe it will live up to the hype and HTC will leave it alone and just push it without a new UI.
Personally, I can't wait for 3.0. I'm really hoping it comes a lot closer to being as nice looking and easy to use as iOS. I came from an iPhone and loved it, but I love Android a little bit more; I don't know why I like it more, but I do, however, the apps are really ****ty when compared to iOS and the UI is pretty rough in some areas - sense or aosp.
Google really needs to step it up and hire some graphic designers that can't code at all.
Whoot Whoot !!!
bring it on Google

that's pretty cool. I wonder where they got their sources from though? I really would like to see what kind of UI google puts on gingerbread though. And of course, whether or not motorola/HTC/samsung will still blur/sense/touchwiz it...

I read from a few places that Gingerbread would do away with 3rd party UI's like Sense. It would have to be pretty fricken sweet to get me away from Froyo Sense. I mean, how much faster could it get?

I think the statement was that Google was aiming for UI that was nice enough to DISCOURAGE manufacturers from layering their own environment over the top, which would hopefully save resources.
But read this.

you got a point gingerbread is where to be its much better then froyo to me ^_^
The older the hardware is, the less likely it is that people will stick around working on it. Also be aware that most of your list is made up of non-devs.
Most people who worked on Dream have gone to VISION. At some point, you should consider the fact that although Dream was a revolutionary piece of hardware, it is now OLD.

a perfect, working cm6.1 with the ram upgrade and no battery issues, etc. would be the ultimate rom for g1
Well, the Vogue has been out for a looong time and it still is in support (miraculously).

The G1 still gets more rom development than the G2 (although it's started to even out). Maybe some devs are leaving, but there are plenty left.

G1 has the best support ever from devs and it should as it's the OG android device of them all. I will probaly check out the lg optimus2x or htc pyramid next as I believe those are the game changers that will have the same/hopefully better support even then g1.

Last time I tryied Ginger Yoshi the phone was unstable, slow and most of the time the notification bar crashed, the work the developers are doing is great but it's true the G1 is old and lacks, a lot, ram.
I will stick to my G1 for some time, I was thinking in getting a SGS which are cheaper now, but I'm not very sure about the community support. The G1 is great and will be great for some time.

we'll get more ports when we get a gingersense leak. That rom is so outdated haha virus new port based on the htc kingdom sounds like its going to be a huge success for the evo.
A bit of perspective
Although I can feel where you are coming from on the fading of interest I wanted to chime in here to relay my recent experience with the incredible and its devs. My wife and I both had eris phones and were both rooted and running custom roms. The phone unrooted is almost unbearably slow and painful. Rooted is much better but still the phone itself is just so antiquated. I pushed Verizon to up my upgrade date and recently got the Thunderbolt. My wife finally got fed up with the eris and her upgrade date was too far out to push up so I got her a used incredible locally for about $170. Now comes the part that blew me away. The guy I got it from had it stock and never rooted. I did the research and was, as i said blown away with the sheer simplicity of the rooting and clockwork recovery rom experience. Thats all aside from the beauty, speed, screen brightness, perfect size, and overall satisfaction of the phone. I truly almost prefer it over my thunderbolt. The rom factory may be slowing down but this phone is an amazing device overall and the devs that have put time into it are to be commended in the highest. I can only hope that cyanogen and the others make my thunderbolt as amazing of an experience.
cant wait for gingersense. running CM7 2.3.4 but miss sense.

I disagree. Several awesome ROMS are out there and it seems like we get another new ROM every week or so. Admittedly, some are more awesome than others, but development is defintely still on-going. That's the beauty of this device - it was so far ahead of it's time.

Windows is a non issue.. once you flash an android rom (w/ Linux kernel) the windows phone os doesnt matter as its just hardware at that point. Android rom uses the Linux kernel to communicate w/ hw.

I have noticed things are slowing down too. I got a Thunderbold day 1, which I love, no looking back for me, but my wife still has a Dinc, and I am always looking to update, it is currently running Myns Warm Z, not much else right now.
I am not sure it is slowing down so much as people are finding that what they have the love. I personally still flash a few roms every now and then but I always tend to go back to one... because It has the most of what I love. I think that always happens. I use to see this when I was running windows mobile htc 8125, people said that everything was slowing down but I think it is more the fact that you have know tried most of the ROMs. When I first got this phone I went through and flashed as many roms as I could. a few of them I am not going to try again until they get a few more levels up since I was not satisfied but there were a few that I really liked and I have flashed them when they come out with a new one. BUT I do always go back to my main rom.
So after all that I dont know if it is slowing down since I see new roms out every once in a while. I think that I just dont have the interest to flash them as often since I can say, I have already tried that. I will wait 3 more version before flashing that again...
You may have noticed that I didnt use one rom name since I do not want to discourage any ROM developer. They all do an "Incredible" job here no pun intended. Keep up the GREAT work and happy flashing.
SoBBie
I hear what you're saying, but there is still a lot of great work going on. The release of skyraider 4.0 was huge, and there are still a ton of roms being actively supported. Between CM7, MIUI, LiquidMetal, the z roms, and the stock sense roms, you can get just about any look you want.
It seems though, that most new ROM work, including ports, are the same old bases reworked with a twist. CM7 is nice, but doesn't have Sense.. The desireZ ports are nice, but still 2.2.. as with Skyraider.
I'm sure not knocking any devs work.. I use them and donate, just wish we had some new work coming our way... especially GingerSense!
I still see lots of development for the Inc. I am definitely really glad I got rid of my Fascinate for it two months ago.
Just my $.02

I've tried virus' kingdom rom port for the evo. sure, visually I thought sense was "appealing" but in the end it's still sense to me. too much stuff/clunky imo.
Plenty of the widgets have similar alternatives so that part doesn't bother me like it used to.

I hated my phone after a while with the stock 2.1 and the bluetooth issue was frustrating and it was slow. The Sensible Gingerbread rom is actually pretty nice and it is getting further along every other day. The lockscreen is really cool too. But, this thing is a lot snappier than stock and it's 2.3.4 with a working camera and mms. You might want to try it. I was a sense naysayer before trying it out myself.
There's nothing wrong with having as many options as possible IMO.

thats what i was getting at if the release the HTC sdk and make some of the sense 3.0 for older phones you could strip down a htc rom or add what little to a rom that you want. it would give every one that flashes or builds rom more options.
I contacted HTC to ask if we will get the 2.3 update:
Will the HTC Legend receive the Android 2.3 update?
HTC replied with the following:
Thank you for contacting HTC.
No, the HTC Legend will not be receiving the Gingerbread update. Android 2.3
I noticed that a lot of people were wondering if we were going to get Android 2.3 or HTC Sense 3.0, so I thought I'd contact them myself.
I hope this clears up any mess
Here's the e-mail:

Yeah I heard the desire was getting it sans some sense apps... apparently they require too much RAM or something .. I don't know why they can't push 2.3 with the same old sense...

The Desire has more RAM and the exact same ROM as the Wildfire S, which runs Gingerbread on the New Sense just fine! Minus HTC Locations, but that's all I noticed was missing!
...or is there some spec I'm missing?

No, basically HTC have lied once again, to the Desire owners this time. Tbh I've lost all faith in HTC, I quite like my Legend still now that it is rooted, but next year when my contract runs out I'll get a different Android phone, possibly a Samsung or a Google Nexus phone depending on what's around at the time.
Everyone seems to be forgetting about htc developer site, im pretty sure its going to be quite like Android Source with teh ability to build from source like Cyanogenmod?!
I'm running 2.3.3 with sense 2.1 from ogo2 with no performance issues, it's obvious to me they want to push people to buy new phones.

Yeah, they were being lazy (or deceiving) when they said INITIALLY that the Desire was not receiving Gingerbread. Two days later, they must have realized this or someone must've pointed out their lie by analyzing specs on their current generation phones, because they decided to pump Desire with Gingerbread once more.
Stupidity, stupidity.
Good point bonesy

Lets hope so, I like HTC Sense personally so it'd be great to see some more HTC Sense ROMs as the Legend doesn't have very many. Tbh we hardly have any non-HTC Sense ROMs either though!

I agree. With the new HTC Developers site, we are bound to get new ROM's
Everyone reading this, flash Cyanogen 7 for Legend and you will never look back. It's Gingerbread and better than stock Gingerbread and better than any Sense Gingerbread HTC would give us..

Totally agreed. Why would you wait for official Gingerbread when you have one on Cyanogen 7? Which is freakin' amazing!

Well, than you've better get starting cooking these ROMs, cuz I don't see any one else willing to do so. There's about 10 people on this forum that care about this phone, including 3 guys that have the knowledge and skillz to make a fully working ROM. I don't wanna sound pessimistic, but the Legend I kinda dead in terms of development.

I suppose you are right. The Legend is a phone that is soon going to become unsupported by dev's.

I personally love the speed of it. But in my opinion, I think that the stable version isn't exactly stable. I keep getting random reboots and right now, my Messages Application won't open :/
And that's one reason why I sold my Legend to my brother, little or no updates in the OS version from HTC.
I prefer sense to be honest, Dont like any launcher apart from rosie as nothing compares to it!
this really doesn't surprise me, newer models are out. So HTC would be 'forcing' you to get a newer phone
Yep cm7 works for me

Personally I don't care about newer versions of Android on Legend. There's no feature in 2.3 or later that would significantly enhance my productivity compared to 2.2 or 2.1. I think I can use my Legend as is at least for the next year or so.

I really like the new feel of the new sense.. It us just a matter of time before we see it on or legend.. Ogo2 its very close.. I would also like to just see the new framework integrated into blay0's ROM
