Now on 2.2 I notice that the phone gets stuck on this notification message when restarting "Preparing phone storage, checking for errors" (I have seen it on a normal sync as well)
The only way I can get rid of it is by connecting the USB cable and select drive or do a sync. It looks like it gets hung on the process as the message headers roll up when the cable is connected
I feel that people who never sync by USB cable to Outlook as I do may not see this but I could be wrong...by the lack of search results on this issue I came to that..
Anyone else on 2.2 seeing this issue??? and again I think it comes from a physical sync vs over the air. No issue with this on 2.1

(Apologies to those who've read this elsewhere)
After shifting the location of my PC and plugging everything back in ActiveSync has stopped detecting my i-mate.
Things I have tried so far:
a) been through the steps of the troubleshooter
b) removed ActiveSync 3.7 and installed 3.7.1
c) did virgin install of AS 3.7.1 on different PC
All with no luck. AS resolutely refuses to detect my device. What can have gone wrong? Heeeeelp!
Do a soft reset in the device and reboot the pc, then try the hot synch again. It should work.
Should it not, here is the place to find out other options:

Thanks, but tried all to no avail - getting quite depressed now! I had a quick look at your link but no immediate solution seemingly.
Happy New Year!
Well, I've just tried installing ActiveSync 3.7.1 on a third PC - still no luck. I'm thinking that maybe the problem lies with the device? Maybe I've killed a registry entry whilst being over zealous with something. Does anyone know what the registry entries are in case one has gone walkabout.
Otherwise looking at hard reset and if that doesn't cure problem I've got a very expensive phone!
Thanks
i've had several times that the xda was charching in the craddle,
& i got a removable usb disc in windows, that activesync didn't connect. What worked for me was play a little with the usb-connector in the PC or change it from usbport, so in my case it was some kind of bad contact,
You've probably checked this but I'm only trying to help:
From activesync go to tools/options/options and under 'When cradled' check USB is selected for sync connection.
Sync Problems
I had the same problems with ROM 1.03. I backed up, did a COLD BOOT then tried activesync, it worked. Then I did a restore and it still worked. I did notice one thing, I was playing with the notifications. I deleted some that I thought were redundant. Things wern't running well after I did that including the sync. After I restored, I didn't mess with the notifications except with the tool from ScaryBear.
Hope this helps,
Brandon
Brandon: Maybe you've given me the answer, thanks. It is entirely possible that I got overzealous with an excellent little program called Remover. I, too, have the ScaryBear notifications program but it seemed to leave a lot of notifications behind, so........
I'm just girding myself for a hard reset and then I will, as you say, leave the queue alone.
Plum: Thanks but yes, I had tried that. Also, selecting a baud rate and then selecting USB again to 'refresh' it.
With my x7501 I can connect in bootloader. Just flashed factory ROM, the Michy's 6.1 clean. In both ROMs I get the "failed to connect" sound from my PC in the fisrt boot screen, just when the red text disappears (and of course, then, nothing happens reagrding the connection). I can connect my wizard and sync.
Lately:
I installed Shantz Today Changer, uninstalled a dumb Minsweeper game (my four-year-old loves the OEM version). I've been having some PC issues, like dropping wifi every few minutes, Google Chrome crashed the OS so I uninstalled, and Quicklaunch icons show up funny occaisionally. My BT also isn't working, (Broadcom stack) software can't find the local device.
So whatever happened to "cable is stable"? Anyone up for a puzzle and kind enough to give me a clue?
Next steps: restore from Sprite Backup and keep popping out my card to exchange files (sneaker mail, anyone?). I'll probably live without Desktop Outlook until I get this solved, since I started using Flexmail and Pocket Informant, I can pretty much do what I need to do on the handheld and have to take it with me, but what a hassle (yes, I'm spoiled). I will try another PC, too.
Working for now
I waited overnight, let it reboot twice as per my nightly routine, this morning unchecked "Enable advanced network functionality" under USB-to-PC in the system tab of Settings. I have a funny feeling that anything I did didn't make a difference, since it all happened so early in the ROM loading process.
I hope the thread helps someone who runs into the same problem.
I am so tired of all the WTF moments in WM. I guess, no matter what, if you want it all, you have to fight for it and deal with the setbacks.
I have just got a HD2, and used activesync successfully for the last 2 days to sync contacts and load the HTC hotfixes from their web site. Today however, it has just stopped working. The phone connects (but takes a very long time) and starts the sync process, but then the progress bar doesn't move at all for ages or sometimes moves to about half way in 10 minutes but won't get any further.
Before the status bar starts moving and randomly during the sync process I get the message "A problem has occured with services.exe Please tell microsoft about this problem...." The status bar usually starts moving a little after sending this error report. I also get the message "A problem has occured with connmgr.exe...."
Trying to stop activesync freezes the device completely for several minutes but it usually frees eventually although I have had pull the battery a couple of times.
Occasionally when it does start I get the warning message "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?" although I have made no changes whatsoever on the PC. I've never come across a message like this from activesync before on any other device.
Has anyone had these problems or have any idea how I can fix them?
Cheers
Do you have sync problems with 3G or with USB? It usually happens to me with USB.
Try this. At Settings|Wireless, turn off Direct Push. Turn off Data connection. Go to mail. Do a Menu|SendReceive. If it works, then go back to enable those two options. I have no idea why but this often works.
Unpluging the USB often makes it better.
delete profiles in actvie
sync tools->active sync
soft reset
sync again
Be happy
Sfr0g, how do I delete the profile? I can't find that option.
Cheers
I keep getting messages that this process has stopped unexpectedly after coming out of a locked screen. I think it is related to HTC Sync. I recently installed version 3 of HTC Sync on my PC. Any ideas on how to make it stop doing this? (see my signature for current ROM, etc.)

Unfortunately I have been having the same issue with my HTC Desire. I have also installed HTC Sync 3(.0.5387 to be exact), and more often than not (but not EVERY time) I will get the "process com.fd.httpd" Force Close error. I also believe it is related to HTC Sync 3, as I don't remember 2.0 installing that .apk on my phone.
I notice it most when disconnecting my car charger, leaving Car Dock mode...or more specifically actually, when I turn my ignition off so that power is cut, but the USB plug is still connected.
I also use a program called "Tasker" which allows me to set conditions and execute actions upon events such as Charging (Y/N), Car Dock (Y/N), Time of Day, etc., and I'm not sure if this is also interfering. Do you also have Tasker installed by any chance? Seems that not many others are experiencing this issue, and while it's fairly annoying, it's still bearable as Android handles it quite well.
For what else it's worth, I'm using LeeDroid 1.9a, again, on a Desire.
Looking forward to hearing more about your setup, and anyone else who might be having this issue as well...
Cheers!
i lost this file :|
Ever since I installed froyo, I have noticed that when I plug my phone in via a usb cable, it appears instantly in the windows 7 device list, but takes at least 2 minutes to appear as a actual drive, sometimes never appearing at all.
The phone also instantly recognises that it is connected and the same thing happens on my work computer as well.
Has/is anyone having similar issues to this?
EDIT: Have tried with usb debugging turned on and off, also uninstalled htc sync in case that was interfering but didn't help.
Do you have a lots of apps on the SD? If so, mounting it on the PC requiers to unmount all these apps from the system.

Quite a few, that might be it then. Didn't realise the phone had to do that. Thanks
That'll be the reason. It's a pain, if you use an a2ext solution it will be faster
