Phone takes forever to mount - Legend General

Ever since I installed froyo, I have noticed that when I plug my phone in via a usb cable, it appears instantly in the windows 7 device list, but takes at least 2 minutes to appear as a actual drive, sometimes never appearing at all.
The phone also instantly recognises that it is connected and the same thing happens on my work computer as well.
Has/is anyone having similar issues to this?
EDIT: Have tried with usb debugging turned on and off, also uninstalled htc sync in case that was interfering but didn't help.

Do you have a lots of apps on the SD? If so, mounting it on the PC requiers to unmount all these apps from the system.

Quite a few, that might be it then. Didn't realise the phone had to do that. Thanks

That'll be the reason. It's a pain, if you use an a2ext solution it will be faster

Transferring files PC>SD

Ok, seems pretty straight forward. plug in USB, slide down notification select turn on USB mass storage. open folder on PC, click drag files to designated locations. Reboot to get the files to show up in astro.
Now here's my problem. Half the files i transfer over are fine the other half, transfer over with no data behind them. 0kb. i transferred over about 10 ringtones, 5 wallpapers and 2 .apks
About 4 ringtones work, the others show up in astro, but have no data, i finally got all the wallpapers to work, after file transferring several times. and 1 .apk worked and the other doesn't.
It seems to be sporadic, as in, i transferred over the set of wallpapers i'd say 10 times. Out of the 10 time, the first 9 it was a different wallpaper(or couple) that would have no data, the last time they finally all went over as they should have.
This is getting rather irritating, I've searched the forums and the only help I've found is about the reboot phone to get them to show up in Astro. Any advice/assistance?
TL;DR- Half the files i transfer from PC to SD card, have no data attached to them, it's just a filename. Seems sporadic.
Maybe DroidExplorer can help you, if your PC is under Windows.
Actually, there was one file in particular that kept showing up as 0bytes. and this time, i actually read what it said on the "Turn off USB storage" screen. It says: Before turning off USB storage, make sure you have unmounted ("ejected") your Android's SD card from your computer.
So i actually did that, and the file transferred. I'll test a few more things to see if that's the case.
Never in my life of owning a PC have i ever used the "Safe to remove hardware" taskbar thing. I've always just yanked the USB cord. Never had a problem :X
Edit: That seems to have helped immensely, but hasn't solved the problem fully. Just transferred over 20 wallpapers, and only 2 show up as 0 bytes. So, maybe i'm on the right tack, i'll try the DroidExplorer see if that helps.
Anyone with advice or a solution, I welcome your $0.02

Having a strange problem with usb to computer

My vibrant acts like its not connected to any computer I plug it into
I've tried two different cords and two different computers. One of them being a mac and the other being a PC
I've tried every usb port on both. It's strange.
I'm on Bionix 1.6. Should I restore back to stock and then reflash and see what happens?
Has anyone had this happen to them?
I seen somewhere that you need samsung drivers but I don't have a link for you. Personally I did the tedious task of sticking my sd in an usb adapter but I switched to wireless transfer after a week of that. Android phone drivers in general didn't load for me on Win7 64bit.

You got the Drivers installed right? soft reset your phone ? If that does not work, back up hard reset and check again. If still not working I say return it..

Yeah I have the drivers
Did the soft and hard reset
Can't return it since I got it off of a guy on somethingawful
It's whatever though i got a good deal on it and it still works great. I'll figure it out some day
I'm running windows 7 Ultimate and it works just fine, but whenever I use a different computer or a Mac I get the same problem. I tried almost everthing.
Are you running JI5/JI6 ? I have the same problem with these builds. I remember someone else had the same problem as well, could be a bug. What happens when you go into USB settings of phone and select/deselect mass storage option?
This is going to sound really really really weird but I fixed it somehow
I put the disable lagfix into the voodoo folder and rebooted my phone and plugged it into my brothers ps3 and then suddendly I could mount my phone to my computer again.
Even stranger I deleted the disable lagfix file and rebooted my phone and let it do its thing and now my USB is completely working again.
Anyone have any ideas about this? I've done the disable thing before when I was trying to fix it but never plugged it into the ps3
I'm glad I was messing with my phone when the battery was at 20 percent!

HD Mini looses Storage Card during tomtom

Hello, since a few months, my Tomtom 7.916 crashes regularly. It has 3 appearences:
1) complete freeze, need to remove battery
2) distorted screen
3) crashing program: gives message that files from storage card cannot be read.
In case of 2) and 3), my HD mini seems not able to find the Storage Card anymore: both in settings and in explorer. After a soft reset, the card is back again. During sommer Holiday, I did not have any issue at all. The only thing I remember from that time is that at some stage, the storage card was known as storage card2, which was also quite annoying though, but that happened only once or twice: my issue now happens everytime I use Tomtom, sometimes once every hour, sometimes once every minute.
Any ideas are welcome.
i have faced the same issue i lost all my data and apps that was stored on my memory card , it happened after i was using the the phone while being plugged to the pc and i restated my phone cuz it was stuck (still plugged ) after i switched on back the phone to my surprise i cudnt read my installed apps it says either the app is removed or relocated but then when i went to the explorer file to take a look at my storage card i found it empty !!!!!! i lost all the data there
i have a 8 GB memory card so im guessing maybe the issue is from the card itself or that its from china!! i have no clue yet, up to now its working fine .
ok, I must say in my case, I never lost any data from the storage card. But indeed, it cold still be the cause of the problems. Are there any ways to reformat the SD card in order to obtain more reliabile performance? What did you do with it when you lost all the data?
Did another check:
when Tomtom is running, and I plug in the USB cable and choose the diskdrive option, I get exactly the same failure signature 1) 2) or 3) as listed above. So maybe, my HD mini sometimes "thinks" a data cable is connected iso just the charger. I know there has been an issue in the beginning with the HD mini not recognising when a charging cable was connected.
Any thought on this? Do I talk nonsense?
Try TTN7.917.9186_vga_black_cuckoo_NOBT instead of 916, had the same issues with 916 before!

Sorry, made a mistake in my first post: this 7.917.9186 is exactly the one I am already running.
Had the same issue with my storage card. Solved by reinstalling the same software again (7.916)
Does it only happen with tom tom? I haven't used tom tom today, but my SD card suddenly is gone ! This is the second time in a few months...and it really annoys me, it really looks like a bug in WM. Thankfully this time, after a reboot it works again....
I had similar effects also without Tomtom, but then the storage card became "storage card 2". And after a reboot it became "storage card" again. But with Tomtom I completely loose the card, and it comes back after reboot. So a bit different, but your case could have the same reason. I will try a reinstall.

[Q] Phone resets on USB Connect

Ok so i have CM7 RC1, and everytime i plug in the usb and try to connect it, like to put music on it and transfer files. It restarts my phone and boots up again. it never ever connects.
Does anybody have a similar problem? or does anybody know a possible solution?
thanks
Is it only when you tell it to connect to pc, or whenever you plug it in to usb?

Only when i connect it to PC, it shows the USB connected screen and has the button that says "Turn on USB Storage" when i click that button it starts loading then reboots
I would start by doing a full wipe and reflash. I haven't seen anyone else mention this issue before.
Actually, a miracle happened today. It just started working now. lol. it didnt work earlier but Thanks anyway. but i have another question. everytime i download a file on the normal android browser it comes up unsuccessful constantly. I download stuff multiple times just to make it go through.
Whats up with that?
It says its downloading, gets to 100% and then says Download unsuccessful.
Is your sd card almost full?
Wow im dumb lol, thanks i didnt even think about that. thanks man appreciate the help.
anytime. Thats what we're here for.

Notifications reset after USB Mass Storage?

I could just have a defective unit but it seems to be after I use USB Mass Storage mode all my notifications reset to factory and the Atrix doesn't always rescan my card to pull the notifications to reset them. It's irksome and happens with Internal Storage and External Storage.....anyone else experiencing this?
I didn't notice any changes after using USB Mass Storage. I mounted my phone, copied some photos, and then dismounted. This is on a Linux system.
What sort of notifications changed for you?
All of them, I have custom notifications stored in a folder on my card called "Media" then in a subfolder called "Notifications" when I mount my phone in USB Mass Storage mode and eject the SD card, I notice that all my Notifications reset to "Unknown Ringtone" I just did a factory reset to see if that will resolve the issue, but I have to wait for all my applications to download. Should be interesting to see what happens.
Yea, on 3 separate Windows 7 Systems once I mount my Device in USB Mass Storage mode, the moment I go back to The Standard Motorola Portal (or even directly unplug the device) My notifications are reset to "Unknown Ringtone" in all the apps that I use. I did a factory reset last night so the only thing I am left with is the possibility that this phone may be defective if I'm the only one with this issue.
i'm having the same exact issue. Even after restarting my phone and reformatting my SD card my phone still doesn't recognize my SD card in the gallery or music, but if i use the files application it shows everything is still there

Not identical issue, but quite similar, it's as if once the Mass Storage is enabled the phone forgets 100% about the cards and any settings that were maintained on said cards. Clearly this is a bug that shouldn't have existed in a Product that is released and Moto needs to get on this to fix it.
I believe I have the same problem - The notification tones reset. Custom ringtones switch to just random mp3s(not ringtone mp3s) and the main ringer switches to the generic default. On mine I also notice that the default actions(which browser to use, what app to use with a specific file) are open after being connected via USB mass storage. I get prompted to select a default action every time after mass storage mode.
This is an issue on both my Captivate and Atrix. I just copy the files into the system's media folders and don't have an issue. It's not only with Motorola but Samsung as well. It may be an Android thing, not the manufacturer....

I believe laskint is correct, and I am having the same issue when the notifications or ringtones are stored on the SD card. I was thinking about placing all my tones in the system folder right before my Google search led me to your thread here at XDA, so... Without further adieu... I'm transferring my files now, and I'll report tomorrow if that fixes the issue. I'm two hours shy of being awake 24 hours. x_x
