In my opinion none of them is worth the money! In fact IM services should be free just like they used to be!
Agile Messenger is a beautiful IM client and supports all standard IM (AOL, ICQ, MSN, YAHOO and more) but the price on the software is a joke! Well, as long as they find people spending that ammount of money they won't go down with the price anyway!
IM+ never worked on my NOKIAs and also not on my XDA!
I can see who is online, I can send them an IM but never receive what they are typing in ... ! The interface is not as comfortable and handy as the Agile Messengers, looks somehow way behind ...

Yeah I think its insane that they want money for the programs wish AOL would come out with a good I'M client for wm5/wm6
IM+ works on T-MobileWeb... i tried......
I use VeriChat.. its a good client and is pretty fast. The basic is free and you can set a bunch of away messages to pick from.. it also supports a variety of things.. but sadly they don't sell it anymore.. i attached the EXE though in case you want to try it

LOL,
maybe it is about time that we sit together and develop a XDA Messenger!
I know a little bit about programming allthrough mobile programming is none of my favorites! I am not familiar with the COMPACT FRAMEWORK and WM5 / WM6 API but it can't be that hard ...
sounds good to me!

I have no programing skill on pocket pcs but if you want to give it a run be my guest lol...anyway
anyone have agile beta cab could you post it or email it? [email protected]ail.com thanks if you do
i prefer im+, frankly, i lost my copy of agile, and it always had some issues anyway
@jaychym: if i find a copy, ill send it to you
I use AIM on my 8125.. I kind of like having the actual AIM as opposed to paying for Agile..

The bad thing is: if you use almost any of the Messengers, like I do, it is quite complicate if you do not have an application such as AGILE ... I would buy it for US$20.00 if that would include a life time subscription, but not for more ... Also: for YAHOO is not really a messenger out there (except the one integrated in the TMO US ROMs, and that one really sucks!!!).
I just 'scammed' the web to see if anybody out there works on a open source project for messengers on PDA's but could not find any good stuff ... either it is so old that it is not worth to try to bring it back to life or it is not open source ... sad!
Well with the growing popularity of the Windows Mobile platform, thanks to increasing sales of it via phones, I think you will begin to see a greater proliferation of software like this for the platform.
Now, that said, I would welcome an XDA Messenger if someone should choose to write one and I would gladly help to beta test it. There's just no way I'm paying a monthly subscription fee for IM software on top of what I pay for my phone and data.
Otherwise it looks like it's separate apps. Windows Live, that older free version of AIM from the UK and the new version of Yahoo! Mobile should be out soon for WM devices.
XDA Messenger would be sweet! Does anyone know if Jabber is based on SMS? There's a free ap at http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/imov.htm, but it's no good to me if it uses SMS. I have unlimited data, but pay for each text message
i kno that Jabber is available in IM+ and the whole program uses data. I personally dont use Jabber, but I assume its the same for all services.
i love the idea.. of making a program so that we could all use it.. i would help but i have no clue how to make a program.. but if u guys get around to making it.. itd be kewl if u guys included personalized away messgaes so we could out it in and so that it appears online like on a computer. not i'm mobile like when u sign on froma fone... well this are just suggestions if u guys do end up making one thatd be great..
I used QuickIM for MSN until I installed WM6 with Live messenger. It has no subscription, available for all mobile platforms *except* WM, but there is a rudimentary jar version which is what I used.

considering pdaphones/smartphones are more popular these days alot people would find that a good free messenger-program would be nice to have. sadly i don't have any programming skills but would definitely be among the list of beta testers for windows mobile 2003 and windows mobile 5/6.

Took a while, but I was able to dig up a link for AIM 2.0 for Windows CE devices. Works like a champ on the T-mobile Wing, and best of all doesn't charge for text messages but uses data.

link? anything? i just got mundu IM for free from handango and i have unlimited text messaging, but im always looking for a better program.
hmm pretty good. FREE. any way to switch back and forth from buddy list to conversations without hitting that tiny little arrow on the top left corner?

I use it on my HTC Herald P4350 (WM6). It works pretty good. I got it from Handango's Free Friday several weeks ago.
when you first log on it looks like its smartphone only, and the way some graphics display make me think that, but it has touch screen support, and works fine. though some aspects of it i don't like, i have yet to try the AIM one.
anything for FREE yahoo messenger? I ended up getting billed $13 basically for just testing the yahoo messenger with myself on the laptop for two days.
And that is using my own wifi and my own internet at my house.
I use Palringo (www.palringo.com)
It connects to AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ, Gtalk and it's free. It's overall a really good IM program.
Hello everyone. I noticed from reading a lot of forums that few people recommend using Palringo as the IM for Wing. I don't have a data plan, nor any text messenging. I only use internet at home or when I am near another open WiFi. How is that working out for you? Will I be constantly disconnected? Also, how does it work with Gtalk, Yahoo and MSN? Do I have to install separate clients for each app or Palringo simply combines them all into one? I would like to find out the answers before installing it! Thanks for any info you can provide!

How is the delay on this? The AIM that comes installed on wing is a bit slow in recieving and sending...is this more instantaneous?
Here is a modified version of the one originally posted. Much better.

Does the hacked version work with the $5.99/month proxy workaround? What settings do you use?
Exact same settings you use as the non-hacked one. It just gives you a bunch of buttons and functionability back that you lose from it being so old.
for those who has palringo, are yall having problems logging on?
i did a hard reset on my phone and im having trouble siging on. i never had this problem before i did the hard reset. it keeps on flashing retrying connection. im using the proxy settings posted on the palringo forum. can anyone help?
I'm a man of technology, and does not tend to follow the masses just because of quirky advertising, or getting a phone because everyone else has got it... for example the iPhone and the Blackberry.
I have got a lovely Touch HD, I know its a great phone, and I have been a Windows Mobile Phone user since the days i left my Palm Treo 600 behind, and moving to a Trinity, and now the HD.
Problem is trying to convince others that my HD is better than the iPhone, and better than the Blackberry. But when everyone says "oh but can your phone do blackberry instant messages (of which you dont pay for) etc etc", my response is, ummm errr dunno" and at that point I kinda loose my argument.
I've read here and there that Blackberry Connect is an app that can run on supported HTC/Windows Mobile devices... now this sounds great. Does this mean I can participate with all my friends and their instant messaging antics too? *update: according to posts, the HD isnt working with any version of BCC yet, but lets ignore that fact for the time being and assume it will work soon*
I'm not too sure how or what Blackberry Connect is, it seems to imply that it uses Push technology. My only understanding of Push technology is when Microsoft Outlook server pushes emails to the client computer as apposed to a send/receive request from the client. So how on earth does this theory apply to blackberrys and instant messaging.
I would appriciate if anyone could enlighten me.
Although I feel I have the better phone, I feel left out because everyone is IM'ing each other every minute on their blackberry's
Cheer me up somebody please!
Thanks,
WizzKidd

http://communication.howstuffworks.com/blackberry-messenger.htm
If these are not in-depth or technical enough, I'm sure you'll find more details easily on blackberry forums.
Thanks, that was a good read. I have a much better understanding... The information about Blackberry Messenger and the PIN and how it works via Blackberrys servers is mostly what I wanted to know. From what I understand, everyone on a BlackBerry can instant message each other free of charge because the messages are sent via the RIM server/provider, and data transfered over this is apart of a Blackberry dataplan that must be purchased (when buying your BlackBerry device).
So with this in mind, does that mean I wont be able to install a windows mobile compatible version of the BlackBerry Instant Messenger application, aquire my own PIN, and send messages using a BlackBerry dataplan (because, in my instance, Orange know i'm using a PDA and not a BlackBerry) ?
Any guidelines on this one folks?
Ohh, I just saw this, have a quick read: http://searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid40_gci1252776,00.html
It says Windows Mobile 6 devices can act as a virtual Blackberry, running blackberry apps and using blackberry services etc. This is a very old article, dated in April 2007, so surley this must be in operation now right?
Am I in a time warp?
As per
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/enabled/device_manufacturers.jsp#tab_tab_htc
Blackberry Connect for WinMo doesn't have Blackberry IM feature.
hmm, i dont understand why they dont just sell BBM to people with other handsets, they could make a fortune from it.
I know there is Watsapp, available to download for HTC users, which helps you connect with people on iphones.. BUT I WANT BBM!!!
Hi All,
I'm looking at upgrading my phone. Last night someone stole my BlackBerry 8120... I loved that phone! I was able to do all my work emails, surf facebook and browse the internet fairly easily.
I have read a lot of mixed reviews regarding the X1, however I do seem to like the look of them... A LOT.
Now, am I able to receive all my emails fairly easily and manage them the same as I would with a BlackBerry? Does it have Facebook applications and MSN messenger...
Any "beginners advice" would be great
Thanks,
Amnesia
^^windows live messenger is already preinstalled. u can get the facebook panel and windows live panel in norti's sticky thread.

i'm WM beginner from symbian, just owning x1 for third only what I can say is WM need your patience to getting started, lot's of tweaks and softwares to try and to learn. the uses requirement that you asked above can easily done on xperia. anyway, I feel good with my xperia now and it's games much better than symbian one,hehe... plus I reply this message using x1 now^^ so, join us, xda has cookies ))
p.s. what I watched on youtube was the blackberry storm bootup in few seconds! looks miracle....
unfortunately Windows Mobile is much slower than BlackBerry's interface.........
but at least it's the most versatile mobile platform in the world hehe.
ive never owned a blackberry, and the x1a is my first winmo phone too. i like the x1a, only downside is the screen is a little to small for me. i mean the screen resolution is awesome but i sure wish the screen could have been bigger. i mean 3.2" at least. it may not seem like a big difference in numbers between 3 and 3.2 but it is.
if your happy with blackberry's email, i would stick with it and maybe get the storm.
if u dont want touchscreen..then BB Bold is one of the best smartphones out there...very fast interface.
my dad has it.

So, this will convert my Winmo to BlackBerry Operating System?
I've read through the topic and I didn't see a mention of it working with o2 UK.. Are these things usually easy to install? Would I need to pay o2 for a BlackBerry tariff... or will unlimited internet tariff still be sufficient?
The problem is, I liked my 8120... but I don't want to ugrade to another 8120, that would be silly! I also like the Storm (but not available on o2). However, the Bold is slightly too big for what I'm looking for... (and has a smaller screen than X1).
However, if you're all saying you like X1's, i think I might give it a shot.

Which unfortunately for some unknown reason refuses to work on the X1.
There are other "push" solutions out there including the built in ActiveSync (which works with Hotmail), but if your work server has BES then you might be stuck.

No, our work server does not have BES. I just set it up as a normal email account and every 15 minutes it pushes my work emails through.
Surely if the X1 has Winmo I can just set up my email address as normal through the email client, and set it to send/receive every 10 minutes or something?
Just my two pennies worth having had Blackberrys, quite a few Symbians, the iPhone and now my fourth WinMo...
going to WinMo is about getting the flexibility to have almost anything you want, BUT also having the frustrations about bugs, some incompatibilities, flashing new firmwares all the time, etc.
So, if you're patient, willing to use the search button and share you experiences with others, in my view Windows Mobile is the best thing out there today.
Otherwise, get a blackberry or iphone. They rarely crash or go wrong, but are a bit limited.

You can do that, and if you have an Exchange server its possible to have true push with ActiveSync.
BadTasteUK; thanks for your input. I have had an o2 XDA before... and that was Winmo. I thought it worked pretty well.
To be honest, I'm not a huge techie, and probably won't be tweaking anything major on the phone. However, I do like the flexibility and option of being able to do so... Hopefully the phone won't have a memory leak my BB 8120 did... my text messages would often delete at least once day due to running out of memory on the phone.
i got a bb bold and a xperia, both are excellent devices i find the bb more stable and faster, the xperia is more configurable and there is loads of software for it ie youtube.
at the moment the bb suits my needs so im using that. it all comes down to what you wanna do with the device.
I suppose all I want to do is use the phone mainly for calls, texts, facebook and searching the internet if I need a phone number, or google maps if I'm slightly lost etc.
Other things that I will be doing from time-to-time. Checking email and occasionally replying to them.
Things that would be nice; Youtube.
Overall, I'm sure I will be more than happy with either the BlackBerry Bold OR the X1... However, the X1 is smaller and has a bigger screen... that will be better for me.
PLUS - It's something "different" to the BlackBerry I have been using over the past 12 months... will give me something to play with for endless hours.
Looks like you've made up your mind Amnesia...

Where did it say it was a business phone?? If anything it's marketed as a multimedia phone!
Most businesses use Exchange and Moxier(included on phone) does a fine job of syncing both contacts, tasks & e-mail. So i'm happy.
As far as sharing an internet connection that will be possible when the phone is rooted and you can convert it to an WiFi hotspot.
Perhaps there are people using outlook that can help you in that department as that's definitely possible.

I hadn't seen that page before, it certainly isn't marketed as that in Denmark. Also these are the promises they make on the page:
"Jobbmejl. Personliga mejl. Telefonbok. Musik. Kalender. Business Organisation ger dig allt du behöver i fickan så att du kan
visa bilagor i telefonen
konfigurera push-e-post som Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync™
lägga in ett lö"
Nowhere does it state "internet sharing" - and only recently Android got native(w. 2.1) ActiveSync compatibility...and Android is still a very long way away from being a true Business oriented OS - not quite up to W6.5 levels yet and WP7 seems to depart the business oriented as well.

At least it did with my Swedish phone!
While I understand google wants to lock users into their services not syncing with outlook, both desktop and exchange, both over the air and direct sync, without using "their" cloud, weakens the OS. Love it or hate it Outlook is pretty much a standard and near ubiquitous. They ability to sync with it should be too IMO.

Calm down people,its Friday!
Yeah, this is one of the issues that everyone was beating up the iphone for (weak in the business market without remote wipe, snycing issues, etc.) since its introduction and in my mind the same applies here. Android should be able to sync with outlook directly, both exchange and desktop, its a fundemental need for many as far as business use goes. That the program is or isnt good doesnt matter because its not about what we want anyways. If it was about what I wanted a naked supermodel would drop by every so often and sync my phone for me.
You can export your contacts from Outlook into a CSV file. You can then import this CSV file into your GMail account (create one if you don't have one). Then add this GMail account to the X10 and it will copy over your contacts as well.
I don't think think there is a solution for any Android device to sync with Microsoft Outlook...sorry buddy. To be honest, if Outlook syncing was a priority:
a) should've done the investigative work before purchasing
b) just get an awesome windows mobile device as it will have a more complete ActiveSync feature set, get an HTC HD2

this is exactly what i did. took less than five minutes to get everything sorted. copying to/from sim is annoying and it screws up if ur contacts have several phone numbers
Some of us did our homework and in fact are still doing it right now, I dont have a android handset yet. Lets consider my options. I hate where MS is going with winmo7, if I wanted an iphone I could have bought one a long time ago. Cant stand the restrictions. Not really against 6.X though. Had a bunch of em already though and long for a change. About the only one I would consider is the HD2 except the form factor is a wee bit large for me. Not a deal breaker there but the lack of 3G is pretty much a killer. So winmo is out, iphone is out. I would probably pick up an N900 but there again you have a lack of 3G which in a modern smartphone can be painful. Thats out. I like palm but neither form factor works for me, same issue with crackberry. This pretty much leaves android which only has one major gripe for me, the lack of proper outlooks support which I have already stated is IMO a basic need for many business users and something which should be out of the box on any smartphone. Now I am not saying you or anyone should agree with these things but this is my view. I find it amusing that pretty much everyone hacked on the iphone over its lack of proper business support and the notoriously obstinate Jobs has been kicked and dragged into increasing the those capabilities with each release to where with the upcoming release that support will be fairly rounded. Seems to me somebody an awful lot of people must want it to get that prick to relent. For my purposes I dont need to sync anything but contacts so I can work around this weakness in the platform and will probably pick up the N1 when my feet hit the beach in a few days. That doesnt mean I am going to pretend everything is all rosy and if they dont fix this and I find it too annoying to to work around I will move on. My mission in life isnt to fill googles pockets. So there it is, perhaps we can converse without the presumption of stupidity. BTW, some of us wont be using gmail at all, shocking, isnt it?

Yeah, this is one of the issues that everyone was beating up the iphone for (weak in the business market without remote wipe, snycing issues, etc.) since its introduction and in my mind the same applies here. That pretty much my issue here. The supermodel comes over but she cant sync my phone directly with my outlook over USB anymore.
Another clueless idiot starts screaming instead of reading...
...why don't you shut up and ask first?
Sync your miserable outlook to Google then

Are you kissing your mother with that mouth? Well, question is, whos the real loudmouth here??? This is a forum, it is for helping others. If its to hard for you then dont visit this forum or stop reading if you dont like what you read.
Well, Easytether did acctually work and was easy to use. Thx for that.
But the suggestion about sync my outlook with a google account is not what i wanted. Call exchange crappy as much as you want its still used by many companys world wide. I am just asking for solutions for my needs and what i am used to and allowed to. I dont care what you use or how you do it. My thread was about my needs, not yours. I want to sync my outlook with my phone by bluetooth or USB cable. If you ever worked on a big company you would know that the IT/IS deparment only allows you to use validated applications on a company computer.
I hope you realize what i just said about this beeing a forum and this forum is for helping other people not calling other people idiots and [email protected]
