Finally! AIM for Wing (Uses Data not Text Messages) - Wing, P4350 General

Took a while, but I was able to dig up a link for AIM 2.0 for Windows CE devices. Works like a champ on the T-mobile Wing, and best of all doesn't charge for text messages but uses data.
http://info.aol.co.uk/aim/wince/index.html

link? anything? i just got mundu IM for free from handango and i have unlimited text messaging, but im always looking for a better program.

hmm pretty good. FREE. any way to switch back and forth from buddy list to conversations without hitting that tiny little arrow on the top left corner?

how did you get mundu im for free?

download of the week i think. i dunno if thats what is really called.

free app friday.
and i found the AIM you're talking about, i didn't think it'd be on the AIM website since it's 7 years old.

I use it on my HTC Herald P4350 (WM6). It works pretty good. I got it from Handango's Free Friday several weeks ago.

when you first log on it looks like its smartphone only, and the way some graphics display make me think that, but it has touch screen support, and works fine. though some aspects of it i don't like, i have yet to try the AIM one.

anything for FREE yahoo messenger? I ended up getting billed $13 basically for just testing the yahoo messenger with myself on the laptop for two days.
And that is using my own wifi and my own internet at my house.

I use Palringo (www.palringo.com)
It connects to AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ, Gtalk and it's free. It's overall a really good IM program.

Hello everyone. I noticed from reading a lot of forums that few people recommend using Palringo as the IM for Wing. I don't have a data plan, nor any text messenging. I only use internet at home or when I am near another open WiFi. How is that working out for you? Will I be constantly disconnected? Also, how does it work with Gtalk, Yahoo and MSN? Do I have to install separate clients for each app or Palringo simply combines them all into one? I would like to find out the answers before installing it! Thanks for any info you can provide!

How is the delay on this? The AIM that comes installed on wing is a bit slow in recieving and sending...is this more instantaneous?

Here is a modified version of the one originally posted. Much better.

upload that mundu

Does the hacked version work with the $5.99/month proxy workaround? What settings do you use?

Exact same settings you use as the non-hacked one. It just gives you a bunch of buttons and functionability back that you lose from it being so old.

for those who has palringo, are yall having problems logging on?
i did a hard reset on my phone and im having trouble siging on. i never had this problem before i did the hard reset. it keeps on flashing retrying connection. im using the proxy settings posted on the palringo forum. can anyone help?

In my opinion none of them is worth the money! In fact IM services should be free just like they used to be!
Agile Messenger is a beautiful IM client and supports all standard IM (AOL, ICQ, MSN, YAHOO and more) but the price on the software is a joke! Well, as long as they find people spending that ammount of money they won't go down with the price anyway!
IM+ never worked on my NOKIAs and also not on my XDA!
I can see who is online, I can send them an IM but never receive what they are typing in ... ! The interface is not as comfortable and handy as the Agile Messengers, looks somehow way behind ...

Yeah I think its insane that they want money for the programs wish AOL would come out with a good I'M client for wm5/wm6
IM+ works on T-MobileWeb... i tried......
I use VeriChat.. its a good client and is pretty fast. The basic is free and you can set a bunch of away messages to pick from.. it also supports a variety of things.. but sadly they don't sell it anymore.. i attached the EXE though in case you want to try it
-Nstefanelli-
LOL,
maybe it is about time that we sit together and develop a XDA Messenger!
I know a little bit about programming allthrough mobile programming is none of my favorites! I am not familiar with the COMPACT FRAMEWORK and WM5 / WM6 API but it can't be that hard ...
sounds good to me!
-Nstefanelli-
I have no programing skill on pocket pcs but if you want to give it a run be my guest lol...anyway
anyone have agile beta cab could you post it or email it? [email protected]ail.com thanks if you do
i prefer im+, frankly, i lost my copy of agile, and it always had some issues anyway
@jaychym: if i find a copy, ill send it to you
I use AIM on my 8125.. I kind of like having the actual AIM as opposed to paying for Agile..

The bad thing is: if you use almost any of the Messengers, like I do, it is quite complicate if you do not have an application such as AGILE ... I would buy it for US$20.00 if that would include a life time subscription, but not for more ... Also: for YAHOO is not really a messenger out there (except the one integrated in the TMO US ROMs, and that one really sucks!!!).
I just 'scammed' the web to see if anybody out there works on a open source project for messengers on PDA's but could not find any good stuff ... either it is so old that it is not worth to try to bring it back to life or it is not open source ... sad!
Well with the growing popularity of the Windows Mobile platform, thanks to increasing sales of it via phones, I think you will begin to see a greater proliferation of software like this for the platform.
Now, that said, I would welcome an XDA Messenger if someone should choose to write one and I would gladly help to beta test it. There's just no way I'm paying a monthly subscription fee for IM software on top of what I pay for my phone and data.
Otherwise it looks like it's separate apps. Windows Live, that older free version of AIM from the UK and the new version of Yahoo! Mobile should be out soon for WM devices.
XDA Messenger would be sweet! Does anyone know if Jabber is based on SMS? There's a free ap at http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/imov.htm, but it's no good to me if it uses SMS. I have unlimited data, but pay for each text message
i kno that Jabber is available in IM+ and the whole program uses data. I personally dont use Jabber, but I assume its the same for all services.
i love the idea.. of making a program so that we could all use it.. i would help but i have no clue how to make a program.. but if u guys get around to making it.. itd be kewl if u guys included personalized away messgaes so we could out it in and so that it appears online like on a computer. not i'm mobile like when u sign on froma fone... well this are just suggestions if u guys do end up making one thatd be great..
I used QuickIM for MSN until I installed WM6 with Live messenger. It has no subscription, available for all mobile platforms *except* WM, but there is a rudimentary jar version which is what I used.

thanks for the prog but it seems you have to register it and pay for it.
considering pdaphones/smartphones are more popular these days alot people would find that a good free messenger-program would be nice to have. sadly i don't have any programming skills but would definitely be among the list of beta testers for windows mobile 2003 and windows mobile 5/6.
FRing NOTHING IS BETTER THAN FRING

tmobile wing and aim..... its really frustrating..can anyone recommend....

a good aim client to use?
i recently moved from the sk3 to the wing and the aim on the wing sucks.. it lags like hell.. i send an "im" and it takes sometimes up to 2 min. for someone to answer me. on the sk3 its instantaneous. is there any aim client that will work faster and allow for me to leave my own away message?
i use the program that came with the wing and it doesnt let me leave custom away messages/..
thx for readin..
IM+
AIM 2.0
Agile Messenger
i use IM+ mostly but it's not free
Hacked AIM 2.0 is free and lets you use custom away's and you can even view people's profiles!
where can i get those programs at?
google them.
There really isn't any great ones out there. I have used OZ Client that comes on the phone and all 3 mentioned, (AIM 2.0 I couldn't even get to work right on the Wing, it's to outdated I guess) Honestly after trying all of these I went back to the OZ Client. Possibly when Trillian Astra is released the anywhere chat will work on PDA's but we shall see.
for some reason with a 6800 and multiple roms dcd clean 2.09 and 2.16 i can im anyone on a computer but if i im a mobile client that uses sms i cannot see theri reply just the time stamp this is with the modified and original aim 2.0 not sure if it applies to data clients from cells because had issue with someone on a blackberry pearl as well
i've been using imov software as my im. it's internet based, instant, and u can log into msn, yahoo, aol, and icq at the same time. it's got a free version with ads, but it's been pretty good. it's a straight im though, no bells and whistles like voice, photo, etc. like some of the other apps. it's free so why not? imov Messenger
oh one more thing, u get offline messages also the next time u log in
update: i found the new version 2.27 and made the zip available. for some reason handango isn't working and softpedia gives u ver. 2.25 although it states it's 2.27
check out www.palringo.com
it's free and you can set up AIM, MSN, YIM, ICQ, Gtalk
That's what I use and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
the aim 2.0 client is soo gay sometimes because you cannot configure the enter button to be a send button, so everytime you finish typing you would have to physically tap the screen in order to send your message
aim 2.0
actually under preferences you can uncheck the enter key acts as return and it will now send when u press enter

I'll have to agree with Duprade.

sorry double post
I really think this program is good even thou it doesnt use any smily faces or anythin like that ...But its really fast and works perfectly on my wing

How do you get this to work for YIM?
i personally bought the IM+ and was worth every cent, i do have the aim 2.0 hack on my phone for use with a second screenname
and you can make your own away msgs with IM+ also
status manager under each program - make your own in there
Palringo is nice and yes free, but you get what you pay for. to go back the contact list or another conversation you must close the active conversation and then when you return everything typed is gone. it does stay connected better than IM+ but not much.
IM+ is grossly over priced and full of bugs. Not to mentiont he fact that it is the only IM program that will NOT work with touch it rom.
AIM 2.0 just plain sucks but again you get what you pay for.
I will stick with palringo just because it actually connects and stays connected better than IM+ but losing conversations just to switch between conversations or go back the contact list just plain sucks

Forgive my idiocy, but was Agile at some point "free"? And when did it become not free?
agile was free for ages, they called it a trial but it never expired.
noticed it wasnt about 6 months ago or so i guess they decided to start trying to charge people for it.
also try http://www.ebuddy.com/ which is a web based messenger app allows MSN and yahoo on most wap enabled mobiles.
i still prefer IM+ but thats not free.

I think this is a good program to try
EQO Mobile. It's a messaging app that lets you connect with aim, msn, gmail, and I think yahoo. It's free, and it looks pretty nice. Again, it's called "EQO"
I've been using palringo and it plugs into 6 IMs, including msn, yahoo, aim and google
nice interface too.
Also does voice and picture sending
IM+ is a good application as it has all the usual suspects including MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, etc etc, and it works on WM5, WM6 & WM6.1
Last time i checked palringo isn't freeware.

I was curious about a couple of the programs in this thread, so I started looking, but haven't installed yet. I was also wondering if palringo was free. I hit their faq website and found:
How Much Does Palringo Cost?
Palringo is free and will remain free for non commercial users.
Commercial users may be interested in the benefits of an Enterprise account. See here for more information.
Palringo connects through the internet so if you pay for data usage, such as on a mobile phone, check with your network operator for pricing information.

I loaded palringo, and it does seem very cool. I like it better than slick. And it has some features that look really cool. Like, groups with group chat and voice messaging. Now I just need to get some buddies to load it up on their windows mobile and blackberry phones so we can give it a good workout.

Need a messenger that can connect to anything

Hi!
I need a messenger that doesn't need wifi to connect. Im using Palringo right now, and its VERY good but it looks like it uses wifi. I dont have any data plans, but on my old SDA i was using the actual OZ messenger, and i was in a car, and i connected to it, i was like "lol weird" and then i was talking to my friend for like 25 miuntes while moving around throughout brooklyn. Now i bought a wing, and the OZ doesnt do that. In fact, it cant even connect while im standing next to my router. Palringo can but, i need somehting that can connect anywhere. I dont care if it uses SMS or whatever, since i got a 400 message plan. So yeah, is there is a messenger like that?
THANKS!
Anyone?? Seroiusly why doesnt anybody ever reply to my threads?
people dont like you. ^^
nah, just kidding. I use OCTRO, it's free and works with MSN, ICQ, GMail and so on. Whereas IM+ and Agile Messenger both are NOT free (Agile is not free anymore!).
Noo, i tried octro but all i managed to get was "MSN Port offline" or something, and im talking about something that can doesnt need wifi to connect. you know if im in a car or a train (no not underground one) and its moving throughout the city, i cant use a wifi all over you know, it will disconnect within 5 seconds. I need some messenger that either uses SMS (i got a 400 messaging plan) so i dont need wifi, or connects to like tmobile's sms network, i dont know whatever, so i can use it anywhere and even if im rapidly moving throughout the area.
I'm looking for a IM as well. I manage to find one but it doesnt connect with the T-Zone Proxy Settings. So far the only thing that works is the IM from the original TMO RUU. It would be nice if someone anyone can provide one.
I found the original TMO IM App. I hope that helps.

This is weird. At first the TMO app worked. My wing was connected to my PC through a usb and everything, and it actually connected.
Then later in my room it said communication error. Just like before.
Aw what the heck. Is there an app that can normally connect to something besides wifi so i can use it anywhere...urgh...because this one is acting weird.
Ok, you might try Agile oder IM+ Messenger, but you have to pay for them. You could also try PALRINGO, seems pretty stable and cool. Of course they all work with GPRS!
sanchez
the OZ im app needs internet connection inorder to connect to the service. It uses sms for the messaging part.
At times there is a ton of delay when you receive a message.
The other messengers out there (im+, octro, etc) is on internet connection. When you get a phone call or lose service, it drops your connection and you will not get those messages.
I know AIM has about 9mins from disconnection to actually take you offline. so there is 9minutes of lost messages, using IM+ you don't lose the messages, but sometimes it takes forever to receive it.
I had to constantly manually refresh to get messages.

bowlopho - then why was i able to connect to the OZ app from my old SDA/HTC Tornado and talk to my friend on it while moving thoughout NYC in a car for like 25 mins until i signed off?
Don't know how much help this will be, but after reading the thread, I'm seeing a bunch of IM clients mentioned that need an internet connection, and no mention yet, of Fring (www.fring.com).
If I understand correctly, I believe that the OP was looking for one that worked without the GPRS / WiFi / Etc... connection types, and to my knowledge, albeit limited, there aren't any. My suggestion would be to get a data plan...

Recomendations for Best IM client?

Hi, first, before anyone jumps on me for not searching existing threads, I did but found that there were a bunch of old and possibly outdated ones as well as many which only talked about one client.
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a multi-protocol IM client for the Touch 2 or if any of them stand out as being clearly superior to others.
I'd like an IM client that offers always-on support for major networks (AIM, Yahoo IM, Windows Live, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber etc), is not buggy, has good features and so on. If it can do other things like send files or even start an audio or video chat, that would be great, but is not necessarily that important.
I'd be more than willing to pay for it if a payware client stands out as being supperior to the freeware clients out there.
The ones I'm aware of are:
Mundu - I've tried it, it's okay. It's payware, but seems to work descently, although it gives a lot of alert messages I don't want, like every time it gets disconnected. I wish it would just reconnect on its own and not bother me about it.
IM+ (haven't tried it)
Octrotalk
Nimbuzz
Agile Messenger
BeeJive
Palringo
fring
talkanaut
Fring
Slick
Webmessenger
Any recommendations? Are any of these stand-outs?
Since I'm not anal like others, I'll answer ya. I use Palringo, works perfectly on the Tilt 2. Nimbuzz is okay, I just like Palringo better personally.
Palringo rocks but Fring is nice with the VoIP/Skype integration.
iPhone-ish sms app
has anyone seen an SMS app that has a similiar UI/functionality to the one that's on the iPhone?
Hey brotha, My choice of IM client for the TP2 would be Palringo. Its pretty sweet and I love that you can send pictures through there aswell. Anyways PEACE BROTHA!
I 2nd Palringo... I"m sure once 2.5 comes out for Win mobile it'll be even sweeter.
Bejieve and Live messenger are quite ok for me
BeeJive gets my vote its very quick, I find others to be very slow
+1 for Palringo
I've tried a few of these and their all pretty good, but my biggest worry is that the ones I've tried are hosted by some unknown company. Not a big issue for chat, but if I send a photo to someone how secure is that on their servers? I stick to Live messenger; it may not be the best, but at least you know Microsoft is pretty secure.
BeeJive user here, love it.
Palringo and its not even close.
I've used almost all the other ones.... Palringo blows them away.
I used Parlingo, and while it was cool, it drained the hell out of my battery because it was ALWAYS connected.
I don't really use IM too much on my phone, the only reason I used it was to contact someone who can't receive texts at work. When I closed it, I was frustrated to find it was still open.
I had to close it via the task manager.
If you want something that is connected 24/7, it's great!
Palringo worked like a charm in mine, BUT from some time an on it does not show all my MSN contacts. I have literaly tried every single thing there is but with no use. I have even downloaded the PC version and again the same thing.. Does anyone have a solution or even encountered something similirar? I really liked that IM mainly because it permits me to chat while "appearing offline" which I find very useful. Or mybe suggest another client with the same feature?
The other one i liked was Beejive which i use on Ipod touch, BUT it keeps crashing my device every time, so it's a bummer for me.
Now I stick with Slick, pretty decent with the feature I mentioned above, the only drawback is that it doesn't have a FB chat support.

Honestly I have not had battery issues which would be a major concern of mine. I used beejive a while back and I thought that was an issue with beejive
Some of it may depend on the version of palringo that was used as I believe they made inprovements but I have used palringo for about a year now and I've had it run in the background with very little impact to my battery life.
Hey hani1,
It is not staying connected all the time, you can adjust it in the settings if you like to close it or keep it active. Its the best one there is, meaning lots of protocols, including facebook...
Give that a try
oh so i can make it not run in background? meaning when i exit the program, the process is ended? if thats the case, then i will definitley use it. i just dont like things running in background.
I'm using Beejive here whenever I've to contact someone I can't reach otherwise, it's pretty sweet and fast.
Most of all, I love that the Passwords (MSN, etc) are stored locally and not on some remote server.
the best client imo is Aimtxt which is aim thru text msg it doesnt use battery like other programs...just text 246246
