Recomendations for Best IM client? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Hi, first, before anyone jumps on me for not searching existing threads, I did but found that there were a bunch of old and possibly outdated ones as well as many which only talked about one client.
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a multi-protocol IM client for the Touch 2 or if any of them stand out as being clearly superior to others.
I'd like an IM client that offers always-on support for major networks (AIM, Yahoo IM, Windows Live, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber etc), is not buggy, has good features and so on. If it can do other things like send files or even start an audio or video chat, that would be great, but is not necessarily that important.
I'd be more than willing to pay for it if a payware client stands out as being supperior to the freeware clients out there.
The ones I'm aware of are:
Mundu - I've tried it, it's okay. It's payware, but seems to work descently, although it gives a lot of alert messages I don't want, like every time it gets disconnected. I wish it would just reconnect on its own and not bother me about it.
IM+ (haven't tried it)
Octrotalk
Nimbuzz
Agile Messenger
BeeJive
Palringo
fring
talkanaut
Fring
Slick
Webmessenger
Any recommendations? Are any of these stand-outs?

Since I'm not anal like others, I'll answer ya. I use Palringo, works perfectly on the Tilt 2. Nimbuzz is okay, I just like Palringo better personally.

Palringo rocks but Fring is nice with the VoIP/Skype integration.

iPhone-ish sms app
has anyone seen an SMS app that has a similiar UI/functionality to the one that's on the iPhone?

Hey brotha, My choice of IM client for the TP2 would be Palringo. Its pretty sweet and I love that you can send pictures through there aswell. Anyways PEACE BROTHA!

I 2nd Palringo... I"m sure once 2.5 comes out for Win mobile it'll be even sweeter.

Bejieve and Live messenger are quite ok for me

BeeJive gets my vote its very quick, I find others to be very slow

+1 for Palringo

I've tried a few of these and their all pretty good, but my biggest worry is that the ones I've tried are hosted by some unknown company. Not a big issue for chat, but if I send a photo to someone how secure is that on their servers? I stick to Live messenger; it may not be the best, but at least you know Microsoft is pretty secure.

BeeJive user here, love it.

Palringo and its not even close.
I've used almost all the other ones.... Palringo blows them away.

I used Parlingo, and while it was cool, it drained the hell out of my battery because it was ALWAYS connected.
I don't really use IM too much on my phone, the only reason I used it was to contact someone who can't receive texts at work. When I closed it, I was frustrated to find it was still open.
I had to close it via the task manager.
If you want something that is connected 24/7, it's great!

Palringo worked like a charm in mine, BUT from some time an on it does not show all my MSN contacts. I have literaly tried every single thing there is but with no use. I have even downloaded the PC version and again the same thing.. Does anyone have a solution or even encountered something similirar? I really liked that IM mainly because it permits me to chat while "appearing offline" which I find very useful. Or mybe suggest another client with the same feature?
The other one i liked was Beejive which i use on Ipod touch, BUT it keeps crashing my device every time, so it's a bummer for me.
Now I stick with Slick, pretty decent with the feature I mentioned above, the only drawback is that it doesn't have a FB chat support.

Honestly I have not had battery issues which would be a major concern of mine. I used beejive a while back and I thought that was an issue with beejive
Some of it may depend on the version of palringo that was used as I believe they made inprovements but I have used palringo for about a year now and I've had it run in the background with very little impact to my battery life.

Hey hani1,
It is not staying connected all the time, you can adjust it in the settings if you like to close it or keep it active. Its the best one there is, meaning lots of protocols, including facebook...
Give that a try

oh so i can make it not run in background? meaning when i exit the program, the process is ended? if thats the case, then i will definitley use it. i just dont like things running in background.

I'm using Beejive here whenever I've to contact someone I can't reach otherwise, it's pretty sweet and fast.
Most of all, I love that the Passwords (MSN, etc) are stored locally and not on some remote server.

the best client imo is Aimtxt which is aim thru text msg it doesnt use battery like other programs...just text 246246

tmobile wing and aim..... its really frustrating..can anyone recommend....

a good aim client to use?
i recently moved from the sk3 to the wing and the aim on the wing sucks.. it lags like hell.. i send an "im" and it takes sometimes up to 2 min. for someone to answer me. on the sk3 its instantaneous. is there any aim client that will work faster and allow for me to leave my own away message?
i use the program that came with the wing and it doesnt let me leave custom away messages/..
thx for readin..
IM+
AIM 2.0
Agile Messenger
i use IM+ mostly but it's not free
Hacked AIM 2.0 is free and lets you use custom away's and you can even view people's profiles!
where can i get those programs at?
google them.
There really isn't any great ones out there. I have used OZ Client that comes on the phone and all 3 mentioned, (AIM 2.0 I couldn't even get to work right on the Wing, it's to outdated I guess) Honestly after trying all of these I went back to the OZ Client. Possibly when Trillian Astra is released the anywhere chat will work on PDA's but we shall see.
for some reason with a 6800 and multiple roms dcd clean 2.09 and 2.16 i can im anyone on a computer but if i im a mobile client that uses sms i cannot see theri reply just the time stamp this is with the modified and original aim 2.0 not sure if it applies to data clients from cells because had issue with someone on a blackberry pearl as well
i've been using imov software as my im. it's internet based, instant, and u can log into msn, yahoo, aol, and icq at the same time. it's got a free version with ads, but it's been pretty good. it's a straight im though, no bells and whistles like voice, photo, etc. like some of the other apps. it's free so why not? imov Messenger
oh one more thing, u get offline messages also the next time u log in
update: i found the new version 2.27 and made the zip available. for some reason handango isn't working and softpedia gives u ver. 2.25 although it states it's 2.27
check out www.palringo.com
it's free and you can set up AIM, MSN, YIM, ICQ, Gtalk
That's what I use and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
the aim 2.0 client is soo gay sometimes because you cannot configure the enter button to be a send button, so everytime you finish typing you would have to physically tap the screen in order to send your message
aim 2.0
actually under preferences you can uncheck the enter key acts as return and it will now send when u press enter

It uses your data plan or wifi (although I've had a bit of trouble trying to connect via WiFi)
I'll have to agree with Duprade.
For me this is the best free IM software out there. Its quick, not easily disconnected, uses data and voice IM works great.
sorry double post
I really think this program is good even thou it doesnt use any smily faces or anythin like that ...But its really fast and works perfectly on my wing

How do you get this to work for YIM?
i personally bought the IM+ and was worth every cent, i do have the aim 2.0 hack on my phone for use with a second screenname
and you can make your own away msgs with IM+ also
status manager under each program - make your own in there
Palringo is nice and yes free, but you get what you pay for. to go back the contact list or another conversation you must close the active conversation and then when you return everything typed is gone. it does stay connected better than IM+ but not much.
IM+ is grossly over priced and full of bugs. Not to mentiont he fact that it is the only IM program that will NOT work with touch it rom.
AIM 2.0 just plain sucks but again you get what you pay for.
I will stick with palringo just because it actually connects and stays connected better than IM+ but losing conversations just to switch between conversations or go back the contact list just plain sucks

[Q] Alternative Skype IM client for WinMo6.1 Diamond?

Hi,
I have installed Skype 2.2 for Windows Mobile Professional (Pocket PC) on my Telus Diamond.
I don't use Skype for VoIP, I use it for the messaging. My gripe with this Skype is it puts a tag line that says something on how I'm using Skype without a PC and on a mobile with a "Learn More" link. I don't like that tagline. I can't even seem to change it. For example, my Skype is logged in at my work PC, and I want to log in from my phone as well.
I want the tagline to show as the one that's on my PC's Skype.
The other issue with this is, it doesn't go away on idle or anything like that. And as you can see, the Skype provided to Mobile users is very stripped down to a basic IM client.
No auto away on idle of 5 mins, no chat window being opened or sound or vibe or any notification when IM'd (The only way you know you got messages is when you open your Skype client, you'll see your tab "Chats" highlighted, the stupid tag line.
Hence, I'm looking for an alternative client that might be available for WinMo6.1 that allows all of what I'm looking for.
Any help would be appreciated.
I like FRING: http://www.fring.com/
But I don't know if it suits your needs.

Does it provide IM for Skype you think?
I'll give it a try.
Installed it, tested it, removed it.
It plasters the tagline, and every message sent on Skype also has a signature. Agh!
Thanks for pointing me to it though, appreciate it.

instant messenger users please repsond!

I am going to pick up the x1 hopefully on blackfriday. Hopefully there wont be too many ppl that is going to be there as well. From what i've noticed, Sonystyle is already OOS. Anyhow... Here is a question for those who use the any type of instant messenger on the phone.. Which one is better for the X1? I have tried slick, beejive, im+ and agilemessenger... Next question.. if you are one of those messenging freaks.. does the batt on the phone allow you to have the messeneger active the whole day? I currently have the sony p1 along with agile messenger and i text and im all day and surf the net.. At the end of the day i still have about 1/4 batt left on my phone.. just wondering if anyone else out there have any experience with this. Just wanna know if the batt will last me the whole day.
Also anyway to turn off 3g and just edge connection to consume less power when only chatting?
I use IM+....but it does soak thru the batt--usually down to about 50% after about 4-5hours
i use fring its active the full day without any problems, but i also need it for calling with Skype (Out) and Sip but chatting works good on my side
Yes I use fring too, it's awesome and does not consume a lot of data. I also have it active the whole day, and I love the plugins in Fring like facebook or gmail, very very good.
Hope u get the X1 soon!
I use Beejive Im, its a nice lite program similar to trillian and has a really nice interface.

BlackBerry vs Xperia

Hi All,
I'm looking at upgrading my phone. Last night someone stole my BlackBerry 8120... I loved that phone! I was able to do all my work emails, surf facebook and browse the internet fairly easily.
I have read a lot of mixed reviews regarding the X1, however I do seem to like the look of them... A LOT.
Now, am I able to receive all my emails fairly easily and manage them the same as I would with a BlackBerry? Does it have Facebook applications and MSN messenger...
Any "beginners advice" would be great
Thanks,
Amnesia
^^windows live messenger is already preinstalled. u can get the facebook panel and windows live panel in norti's sticky thread.

i'm WM beginner from symbian, just owning x1 for third only what I can say is WM need your patience to getting started, lot's of tweaks and softwares to try and to learn. the uses requirement that you asked above can easily done on xperia. anyway, I feel good with my xperia now and it's games much better than symbian one,hehe... plus I reply this message using x1 now^^ so, join us, xda has cookies ))
p.s. what I watched on youtube was the blackberry storm bootup in few seconds! looks miracle....
unfortunately Windows Mobile is much slower than BlackBerry's interface.........
but at least it's the most versatile mobile platform in the world hehe.
ive never owned a blackberry, and the x1a is my first winmo phone too. i like the x1a, only downside is the screen is a little to small for me. i mean the screen resolution is awesome but i sure wish the screen could have been bigger. i mean 3.2" at least. it may not seem like a big difference in numbers between 3 and 3.2 but it is.
if your happy with blackberry's email, i would stick with it and maybe get the storm.
if u dont want touchscreen..then BB Bold is one of the best smartphones out there...very fast interface.
my dad has it.

Thanks for that link.
So, this will convert my Winmo to BlackBerry Operating System?
I've read through the topic and I didn't see a mention of it working with o2 UK.. Are these things usually easy to install? Would I need to pay o2 for a BlackBerry tariff... or will unlimited internet tariff still be sufficient?
The problem is, I liked my 8120... but I don't want to ugrade to another 8120, that would be silly! I also like the Storm (but not available on o2). However, the Bold is slightly too big for what I'm looking for... (and has a smaller screen than X1).
However, if you're all saying you like X1's, i think I might give it a shot.

Which unfortunately for some unknown reason refuses to work on the X1.
There are other "push" solutions out there including the built in ActiveSync (which works with Hotmail), but if your work server has BES then you might be stuck.

No, our work server does not have BES. I just set it up as a normal email account and every 15 minutes it pushes my work emails through.
Surely if the X1 has Winmo I can just set up my email address as normal through the email client, and set it to send/receive every 10 minutes or something?
Just my two pennies worth having had Blackberrys, quite a few Symbians, the iPhone and now my fourth WinMo...
going to WinMo is about getting the flexibility to have almost anything you want, BUT also having the frustrations about bugs, some incompatibilities, flashing new firmwares all the time, etc.
So, if you're patient, willing to use the search button and share you experiences with others, in my view Windows Mobile is the best thing out there today.
Otherwise, get a blackberry or iphone. They rarely crash or go wrong, but are a bit limited.

You can do that, and if you have an Exchange server its possible to have true push with ActiveSync.
BadTasteUK; thanks for your input. I have had an o2 XDA before... and that was Winmo. I thought it worked pretty well.
To be honest, I'm not a huge techie, and probably won't be tweaking anything major on the phone. However, I do like the flexibility and option of being able to do so... Hopefully the phone won't have a memory leak my BB 8120 did... my text messages would often delete at least once day due to running out of memory on the phone.
i got a bb bold and a xperia, both are excellent devices i find the bb more stable and faster, the xperia is more configurable and there is loads of software for it ie youtube.
at the moment the bb suits my needs so im using that. it all comes down to what you wanna do with the device.
I suppose all I want to do is use the phone mainly for calls, texts, facebook and searching the internet if I need a phone number, or google maps if I'm slightly lost etc.
Other things that I will be doing from time-to-time. Checking email and occasionally replying to them.
Things that would be nice; Youtube.
Overall, I'm sure I will be more than happy with either the BlackBerry Bold OR the X1... However, the X1 is smaller and has a bigger screen... that will be better for me.
PLUS - It's something "different" to the BlackBerry I have been using over the past 12 months... will give me something to play with for endless hours.
Looks like you've made up your mind Amnesia...
... the pun wasn't intended, honest!

any good messengers? how about fring?

has anyone used fring messenger? http://www.fring.com/fring_is/fringadd-ons/
i tried using nimbuzz, but i get errors and can not connect.
palringo seems a bit slow on mine as well.
are there others for IM + facebook + google chat + Y!?
try beejive messenger it support every instant messenger service except facebook instant...i think this is one of the best instant messenger out there for window mobile phone
cool thanks. eBuddy seems cool. haven't used it, but will update later.
Palringo
IMHO Palringo is the best multi-messenger application. It supports Voice and photo sharing as well. I use it on the desktop and my mobile. There are also groups that you can join. There are several smartphone groups like XDA, smartphone, HTC, Windows Mobile, etc..
You should definately check it out.
+1 for Palringo. Small on the ram usage, connects to everything, works great.
Palringo is good. Have tried the other but it is the best for my use. Too bad it does not have Skype yet
palringo is hands down the best out there. and they're very receptive to feature requests and feedback.
