Static on incoming calls when both parties speak - EVO 4G General

Hello all, I have an EVO running 2.2 stock rooted version .6 along with the latest radios and wimax. The problem I am having is only when I receive an incoming call. Usually it is worst when a ATT Verizon or another sprint user calls me. The issue is a loud static burst when both parties happen to speak at the same time. The static is very noticeable and almost makes it impossible to use the phone. As I said this only happens when I get an incoming call. If I immediately hang up and call that person back presto no static issue. I have tried changing phones, it happens on a BB Tour, Pearl and two Evo's. I have also had Sprint change the MSID several times, and I have even switched phone numbers all to no avail. The advanced tech support team has issued a "network ticket" so I am awaiting the results of that. Anybody have any ideas? heard of this problem? Suggestions, at this point anything would be helpful. I have tried many different settings on the phone and in the ##data# menu all to no avail. So if anybody has any ideas at all I'm all up for trying them.
Thanks,
Ifly

I am having similar issue while speaking with other party who is on VOIP line.
Until I read this, I was not sure whether this is because of VOIP line or is it because of Sprint.
I will try to watch out for this and see if it has any pattern!

I haven't noticed it when I get a VOIP call but I will watch out for that too.

Hear Incoming Call Before Picking Up?

I have a question, has anyone experienced this: Your phone starts ringing, but in addition to the ring you can hear background noises, including the person who is calling.
So basically you can hear the person on the other end before you pick up the phone. Me and my friends did an unscientific test by calling each other, and found we could hear the other person before answering about 25% of the time.
We all have the HTC Touch, but I have experienced this on my HTC Mogul; We also all have Sprint, but the incoming caller does not have to have Sprint, as it has done it with my friend who has Alltel.
Is this some sort of call screening feature of WinMo or is it a strange bug?
I've never noticed this with my Vogue or Mogul.
I recently purchased the VZW VX6900 and previously had the 6900 through Qwest.

i was running a custom rom a few months ago and when i'd get calls i could hear some sort of sounds comming from the rear speaker. i have never actually even thought that it could be from the incoming phone. but to be honest at that time it sounded like it was just some background whooshing sound.
i'm running vetvito's 2.1 rom now and i dont experience this anymore.
Same problem on my Sprint Mogul, but only recently.
And only from iPhone owners.
Hmm.
i have the same thing pen to me too. although it seems like it only happens when my girlfriend calls and she's driving in a certain area.
It's happened to me a few times too. It really freaks people out when I repeat to them what they were saying before I picked up!
It used to happen to be every time on my Alltel Touch until I upgraded to the latest ROM. I wish it still happened, I sort of enjoyed it at times.
It happens to me sometimes, too. It can be fun

Hero Call issues.

Hey,
My fiancee has a HTC Hero and she's having some issues with it today.
She was on a call when all of a sudden the voice when all scrambled and screachy. Then the call dropped out.
After that, she hasn't been able to make or recieve calls.
When she tried to make a call the phone is silent on the dialing screen, then beeps once and returns to the phonebook.
She just recently received the OTA 2.1 update.
Thanks in advance!
If it wasn't a network outage (other handsets work at same location), tty rebooting (with battery removal), and if that doesn't help, return the phone for replacement. Some component inside might have burned out.
Thanks, she tried a reboot again and it seems ok. I did notice that she had WiFi turned on, so I have now turned it off to see if the issue occurs again.
Thanks,
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App

I get this occasionally as well, calls drop and then not able to connect, despite having full signal. A reboot does tend to help, I too have noticed that if WiFi is on it seems to happen more often. Its a shame, I hoped this may be resolved by the 2.1 update
Bump!
I have had many calls missed as "calls are barred to this number" It is a joke! please help!

Not receiving calls??

This may be associated with the CM6 that I'm running, not sure. But today it just started happening. When someone tries to call me it rings about 2-3 times then BEEP BEEP, dropped call for them. I can make calls outbound, but when someone tries calling me they cannot. Any ideas?!
Edit:
Looks like I can receive calls from land lines, but not AT&T phones. This is driving me nuts..
Edit2:
Still doing it today as well. I don't get it!
If you have an older Liberated, can you flash it and see if problem persists?
Tried CM6 and returned back to Liberated

Intermittent no in-call sound on incoming calls

Hi all,
I have a bone stock Moto G4 running Marshmallow and have been experiencing an intermittent problem when receiving calls, where neither I nor the caller can be heard. It's as if both of us have our mute buttons on, or as if neither of our speakers is working. The phone rings audibly and the call is logged correctly when I answer it, so evidently the call is "going through". All other sounds play normally; only in-call sound is affected.
When this happens, if I immediately call the person who called me, the call goes through and we can each hear each other fine; i.e., the problem only occurs intermittently on inbound calls.
If I reboot the phone, the problem goes away but eventually comes back.
I've seen numerous reports of "no sound during calls" posted here and elsewhere but most of the posts I've seen are pretty old, and don't seem to apply to my phone.
I posted this question over on the Lenovo site but I haven't gotten any responses so I thought I might also check with the experts here.
Thank you for any help.
Inbound Intermittent Call Ring
Hi,
I have a Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL, with Android Nougat and the latest firmware (14.14.1808.121) running on T-Mobile network...
For the longest time I've had an issue with incoming calls most of the time going directly to voicemail, no matter how many bars I have...
I've been researching this for sometime now and most blogs (after they recommend advice on fixing the issue), want you as a final resort to do a backup and perform a Factory Reset...which people say didn't work, so that's wasted time...
I have an extremely easy fix for this which will take you about 30 seconds...
All you have to do is change your 'Preferred network type' from 4G to 2G...you can do this by going to: Settings/More/Cellular networks/Preferred network type...tap Preferred network type and choose 2G...that's it!!! Your phone will now ring every time there's an incoming call unless the number is blocked...
By choosing 2G, you may lessen the internet download, upload, movie and video watching speed and image download speed in texts but increase the signal range...I personally am willing to give up image in text speed to receive incoming calls with no issues...
If you want to download or upload or watch movies and videos from the internet or download images in texts instantly, just change the 2G setting back to 4G temporarily...
I hope this post helps and saves others from spending hours looking for a fix for this issue.
Cheers,
Vinny

DTMF tones triggered / possible cause VOIP hangup

Hello XDA peeps,
I got a moto x pure 2015 that I bought from NY and I use it with Koodo mobile (Canadian provider) here in Montreal, Quebec. I find that I get quite a lot of false tones being triggered. It's very erratic and I can't find a pattern.
For example, some weeks I will never hear a tone beeping off into my hear. Other weeks, I will hear DTMF tones being tiggered by the voice on the other end. It could be my mom (VOIP) or my dad (mobile sim card) or even when I'm with customer service with a bank or credit card. I read that VOIP is notorious for false triggers because of the coding standards used. I noticed that female voices trigger it more often... in particular my mom.
I also noticed that I cannot hold my VOIP calls for long periods. I ruled out the 30 second VOIP issue as it can be 10 minutes, 5 minutes, or 2 hours before my VOIP call suddenly hangs up. I read that faulty DTMF may trigger the phone to end a call. This happens 99% of the time on different wifi connections (home, work, friends, public wifi, client premises, etc) and rarely, if ever, happens while on 3G/LTE.
1) Does anyone know if there is something that I can do to this phone to make mitigate any false triggers fore DTMF?
2) Can anyone confirm if using a Canadian mobile service on an American model would lead to this false DTMF?
3) any suggestions whatsoever? other than factory reset and changing phones. I did a factory reset already and the moto X pure is the phone I purchased to replace the Note 3 that also encountered dropped VOIP calls. I don't remember the Note 3 having any DTMF issues.

I am confused... Your device does not interpret or use DTMF in any way, and it only generated by the touchpad for "legacy" applications like auto attendants or phone banking systems. If DTMF is being detected on the far end, it is miss registering a minimum of 50ms of two specifically mixed frequencies (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency). The device only generated audible tones for your comfort/reassurance except when dialing digits manually. The phone itself should not be part of the issue here. Also, DTMF is not used as a disconnect signal in any way, audible analog tones for disconnect purposes have not been in common service for over 20 years. And the US and Canada use the exact same North American Tone plan, so in that regard a US or Canadian device is not relevant.
I know this isn't very helpful, but I think your searching for the wrong problem with this "DTMF" thing...
TBH, I have worked in telecom as an enterprise grade VoIP engineer for 25 years, including cellular carriers and hosted VoIP providers, and I have never heard of this issue you are describing.
Hi acejavelin,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It is quite possible I'm mixing up terms, issues, symptoms, etc. The different issues I'm facing may be completely independent of each other.
The fact is i hear touch tones when no one is pressing on the dialer. not me and not the other caller. some times it's infrquent and sometimes it can be several times in one phone call.
I will research and provide you with references on regarding VOIP/DTMF/call hang ups. Perhaps this warrants breaking down this question into two separate questions.
Will get back to you soon.

Fair enough... but I answered this simply from a cellular carriers perspective regarding cellular service and your device. Not a VoIP carrier, that is entirely different and would depend on multiple things. A traditional cellular carrier and your device would not be the cause of DTMF tones, although if you are using a VoIP carrier or the person you are communicating with is, then that is whole different set of conditions.
Beyond that, standard troubleshooting would apply, eliminate potentials issues one at a time... try different SIM, carrier, destination, etc.... to narrow done to the commonality in every case and then change that piece to see if it eliminates the issue. Not sure what else to say without more information.
so far my testing is indicative that DTMF is the source of the hang ups. I used "in-band" DTMF and it seems that I only hear the tones now without hang ups.
