I have a question, has anyone experienced this: Your phone starts ringing, but in addition to the ring you can hear background noises, including the person who is calling.
So basically you can hear the person on the other end before you pick up the phone. Me and my friends did an unscientific test by calling each other, and found we could hear the other person before answering about 25% of the time.
We all have the HTC Touch, but I have experienced this on my HTC Mogul; We also all have Sprint, but the incoming caller does not have to have Sprint, as it has done it with my friend who has Alltel.
Is this some sort of call screening feature of WinMo or is it a strange bug?
I've never noticed this with my Vogue or Mogul.
I recently purchased the VZW VX6900 and previously had the 6900 through Qwest.

i was running a custom rom a few months ago and when i'd get calls i could hear some sort of sounds comming from the rear speaker. i have never actually even thought that it could be from the incoming phone. but to be honest at that time it sounded like it was just some background whooshing sound.
i'm running vetvito's 2.1 rom now and i dont experience this anymore.
Same problem on my Sprint Mogul, but only recently.
And only from iPhone owners.
Hmm.
i have the same thing pen to me too. although it seems like it only happens when my girlfriend calls and she's driving in a certain area.
It's happened to me a few times too. It really freaks people out when I repeat to them what they were saying before I picked up!
It used to happen to be every time on my Alltel Touch until I upgraded to the latest ROM. I wish it still happened, I sort of enjoyed it at times.
It happens to me sometimes, too. It can be fun

A word of caution to fellow T-Mobile Wing owners:
I've found out that (occasionally) when my phone is ringing, the microphone is on and the caller can hear everything! My wife mentioned that she notices this when she calls. She can hear the ringer, and can hear me talking to others BEFORE I answer the phone! This can be really bad! The last thing I need is someone calling and hearing me mutter "What the #$%^ does this $%^& want now?" Plus it gives a big feeling of lack of privacy.
I thought surely it was a fluke, so called my self via landline and found it happened about 1 out of 10 or 15 times.
My next thought was it was software - some 3rd party app or tweak had caused it, so I hard reset back to the default stock ROM and still had the same problem. I installed a few different cooked ROMs, and still had the same problem.
The next troubleshooting step is to rule out hardware. My brother and coworker also use a Wing. I tried the same test and found the same issue there, so it wasn't unique to my device.
I called T-Mobile support to see if there was anything they could do, and they gave me a few bonehead suggestions: swap sim cards, hard reset, make sure the battery is fully charged...
Since this issue occurs:
1. With a clean stock ROM
2. With different cooked ROMs
3. On multiple devices
I don't really know what can be done about this. All I can do is watch my mouth while my phone is ringing until the T-MO Diamond or whatever Android phone they release comes out...
Anyone have any ideas? All you other Wing owners may want to try this yourself, or ask someone who calls you often if they've noticed it!

oh wow no wonder.
its happend to me before.
but only once so im good.
thanks for clarification
This happens to me quite frequently. If you quickly put the phone to your ear when you answer you can hear your ringtone still playing, but hear the person on the other line as well. I think it's more along the lines of a delay in your ringer shutting off rather than the mic turning on.
Just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong.

I do experience what you're describing, but this is different. If I leave the phone sitting on the counter, then somebody calls me, they can hear my ringer and anything going on around the phone even if I don't touch it.
It's like the phone mic occasionally turns itself on, and the caller hears the open mic instead of the normal dialing tone.

funny thing is i can actually believe that t-mobile said "make sure the battery is fully charged"

Isn't there a setting that says "automatically answer phone after 3 rings"? Could that be it?

But that's the thing... the phone isn't picked up. After about 30 seconds, it rolls over to voicemail and shows as a missed call...

I am using TELUS vogue in india on TATA network
i am on my own have unlocked the phone to use it in INDIA i have a found a strange thing that
whenvere a phone call comes along with the ring i can hear the sound of person who is calling or any sound i can hear around him
although it is great as i can hear what the caller wants to say to me!!
i 1st thought that only my phone might had such problem but i unlocked another SPRINT VOGUE which showed the same signs too and in it also the voice of caller leaked along with the ring goin on and his/her voice
i cant hear the voice when i put my phone on VIBRATE MODE i am using NFS FAN V17 ROM
i have beeen using the phone 4rm WINMO 6.0/6.1/6.5 still the phone shows leak in rings
so what should be the problem that such a sound leaks!!????
That a funny one, never heard of that problem here in the States. I would say it is probably something to do with your network and a flashed phone from another country. But it sound like a cool feature as long as they don't hear you. But yes the only thing that should be carried is the ring until the call is answered.
If you hear your phone still ringing after you answer the call then it is defenately a phone issue.
If you search the Vogue forum you'll see that an awful lot of people with flashed Vogues on WinMo see this (some people with stock Vogues claim to see it as well).
I don't think it's international-related and I don't think anyone ever figured out why it happened or how to change it.

Confirmed.
My vogue on Sprint does the same. Usually when another person on the sprint network calls me.
Ok so I thought I was hearing things the first time this happened, but before I answered an incoming call on my evo I heard a voice on the other end while my phone was ringing. Well today I heard it again so I decided to check it out, so I called myself on my girlfriends phone and lo and behold I could hear myself on my Evo while it was ringing before I even touched the slide to unlock.
I searched around to see if this was a known feature or bug, but I haven't seen a thing, anyone else notice this?????? Its pretty cool to have lol. I'm on a stock droid build, I tested it some more and its pretty intermittent so I'm leaning towards a bug or glitch but It happend about 3 out of 5 calls so far from my gf's cell (verizon) and it hasn't happend with my dads he's on sprint..
Ok... I just experienced something which was very strange and quite worrying.
I initiated a call in android... got 5 seconds of silence followed by what sounded like garbled voices. My signal is always weak in this location so I assumed I was connected and could hear my friend talking..... so I began with the usual "hello, HELLO, Can you hear me?"....
THEN I heard the phone ringing (MY CALL HADNT BEEN ANSWERED YET)
Before and during some of the ringing sound, I could hear what I am certain was a human voice albeit very garbled and incomprehensible.
Is it at all possible that I got a 'crossed line'? Is that even possible in this day and age?
As my signal is usually weak here so I do sometimes get garbled audio especially while calling out - but this sounded very different and I am 99% sure it was a human voice.
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar under android on the hd2? or even under winmo? Would hate to think someone could be listening in to my conversations
anyone?
edit: radio+ROM= as per sig... build= hyperdroid v1.1
That's funny I was just speaking on my g1 and I use to get that dime times on my g1 so I am guessing its android thing maybe with there radios....or it could be ghost trying to communicate with you from the other side ...maybe Google collecting some more data LOL but if I was ever in that situation again I would battery pull immediately....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
It's a somewhat common occurance, mobiles picking up other mobile phone calls...hasnt happened to me but was actually watching a show that talked about it recently.

Did you notice any black helicopters flying overhead during this time?
its how gsm works.. cdma each phone has its own identity.. with gsm before you connect to the call the connection to the tower is open, every phone is on the same channel.
you were probably hearing digital background noise. the actual voices you were hearing were probably your own being echoed back.
Got to say i don't make many phone calls so i have no idea when this issues started but here it is...
When i make a phone call the sound cuts out intermittently. It's almost like someone presses a mute button for half a second or so. So i miss maybe one or two words the caller says. They can hear me fine the whole time the issue is just on my end and it is over speaker and regular calls.
I have restored to factory image and it is the same. On the Three UK network.
Was thinking of maybe trying a different sim card to see if thats any better but it's a pain to test. Has anyone got this issue or got any ideas on what it could be?!

I am from Canada and am experiencing this problem as well. The weird part is, if I make a call through Facebook messenger or skype, it works perfectly fine...so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
Have you figured out a solution to this problem?
