Crazy 3g speeds - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I was just wondering if anyone else was getting very fast 3g speeds like I am running android. On winmo I get around 1000 kbps and when running android I get over 6000. I'm not complaining I'm just astonished by how much fast my speeds have been.

I see that you are using Opera Mini. You should know how opera mini works:
You request a page (mobilespeedtest.com) -> request is sent to opera server -> opera server sends the request to mobilespeedtest.com -> mobilespeedtest.com sends reply to opera server -> opera server recreates the page -> opera server send the recreated page to your browser.
So the speed you see on the browser is the speed between the opera server and mobile speed test server.
Android has a good app to check speeds. search for speed test in the market. The app by speedtest.net is good and will give you accurate results.

you used speedtest.net app gives good results
you can also choose a server nearby you

Speed up GPRS?

Is there any program that will speed up your GPRS connection or is this a stupid qeustion?
Thanks

not pass 32 - 48 kbps
Well, if you intend to speed your web browsing speed, your best chance is to use Opera Mini, which besides speeding things is the best browser around.
If you have the knowledge to set it up, you can also use rabbIT which is a free web proxy that compresses web pages before sending them to your terminal.
someone posted a reg hack
there was a reg hack that sped up the opening of web pages, where you would put in your proxy server address, it was marginally quicker a search should find it.

Opera issue on hd2

Please help as this is driving me insane!
I have a telstra hd2 with the 3 official patches.
Opera mobile is repeatedly having an issue where trying to access the internet with it results in "Connection closed by remote server" error most times. All addresses except the wap.telstra.com addresses work fine in internet explorer.
Example: www.google.com.au
Opera reports Error! Connection closed by remote server
IE displays the google search page.
Please help to resolve this issue.
which version of opera?
do telstra use a proxy?
does it happen on both data and wifi?
opera 9.7 build 35577
Unsure about proxy server, dont see a proxy setting in the opera settings page.
the hd2 is my only acess point to the internet
I just found out this: launch Opera.
Open the Preferences Editor by typing opera:config in the address bar of Opera (remove any 'http' or 'www' first so that it ONLY reads opera:config) and hit go.
Scroll down to "Proxy" settings. enter your proxy server address. I put it in ftp, http and https. Click the check boxes below that to enable these. Click on "Save". should work then.
That's all I know so far... hope it works for you.

Any reason certain website won't load in android browser?

If I try to go to the login screen on this website (http://www.alldatapro.com/includes/main.jsp) I return an error in android, however the page loads on a standard desktop. Any ideas on a fix? Maybe a proxy issue?

Try using another browser. I use Opera Mini 5 and have no issues on log in sites like I do with the Android browser
agreed. sometimes the android browser will either bring up and error, or just send me back to the login page. Try Opera
Opera mini does open the site. But it would be nice to use the native app. Where is proxy info stored for the browser? I have a feeling that is the hold up

Speedtest Server?

Hi guys, I have a quick question about speedtest.net server. I'm in the DFW area (dallas) but when I use the speedtest.net app to test my speed, the closest recommended server is in Snoqualmile, WA. and speed is very slow for 4G network (take a look at the attachment).. Is it normal that it showing like this? Do you guys have any idea what's wrong with it or how can I change the server to make it faster?
Thanks in advance!

Changing the server will do little to speed up your "speed test" application. That is the closest SpeedTest to the T-mobile server you are using.
and those test are not that accurate. I would only trust tethering the phone to a PC and using something like SpeakEasy's speed test.

thanks for your quick reply! I just tethered to a PC and did a speed test with SpeakEasy and get the same result.
i don't mind where the server is but is it normal to get that kind of result? it is very slow.
If you still want to change your server, go to Settings -> Change Server
I can change the server in speedtest.net app but the speed would still be the same. What I'm asking was, Is there any ways to change the Tmobile Server to DFW area? It's weird how my upload speed is almost double the download speed.

Free Wi-Fi through VPNs?

I've read random articles that state some apps or vpns can assist getting free wifi connections or Internet in general. Anyone familiar with any of this?

Short answer: NO
They are probably scams. VPN-apps don't give you free wifi they connect to VPN-servers through your internet connection and that VPN-server connects to the server of a website you are browsing (e.g. google.com) or service you use (e.g. Viber) this way the site you are browsing or the service you use won't know your IP-address instead they will get the vpn-server's IP-address (great if you get banned from a game for example or a service is not available in your country), but they can't give you free wifi or internet. There is an app called Opera Max though which will compress the data you use through a vpn server and will (probably) reduce your data/wifi usage (with showing the same amount of content). Works best with video/picture downloading/viewing. I've had a great experience with it. It may be a little bit slower than usual but it might use half the amount of data/wifi.
