Having some issues with USB recognition - Vibrant General

I'm trying to get the one click lag fix 2.0 onto my phone. However I've run into quite a few problems. Everything was fine, I was having no problems with connecting to my computer. However when I connected the USB cable again, the phone receives power from the cable but neither the phone or laptop recognize each other. I tried doing all sorts of things (turning on USB debugging and all that) but to no avail. I decided to try to do the factory reset. While the phone was rebooting the "Found new hardware" bubble popped up and it recognized it but as soon as everything was loaded it was gone.
Then I tried restarting it with USB debugging off and it DID recognize it. However once I restart it like that there is no way to turn USB debugging back on without disconnecting it... and once i do that and activate USB debugging, the phone is not recognized again.
This has been a pretty frustrating ordeal and I have tried it on multiple PCs. I am using the stock cable that came with the phone...
Any ideas?

Same thing happens to me. Stock cable would show up as a device when plugged into multiple computers. I swapped phones but I'm sure its just a cable issue.

Have you downloaded the latest USB driver for the phone from samsung's website?
What OS are you using?
Make sure you plugged your USB cable into USB 2.0.
Also, make sure the USB sliding door is fully opened and locked. The door on the phone could prevent a good connection from taking place.

Yes, I do have the latest driver.
I have tried doing this on both Mac (snow leopard) and windows XP (different laptops).
All the connections are good and they are all certainly usb 2.0.

Can't Connect to Windows 7 After 3.1 Update

I'm using the Google I/O Limited Edition Samsung Galaxy 10.1" tablet. Connected and developed with the device fine on my Windows 7 machine until the 3.1 update last night.
Now, when plugging in the USB, the new USB debugging icon (the Android bee) shows up in the tablet's tray. However, Windows 7 doesn't find the device. I've tried power cycling my PC and the tablet. I've tried disabling USB debugging several times. I've installed Kies, but it does not successfully install the required drivers. I attempted to install the driver listed on Samsung's page for the device, but it didn't appear to do anything.
I was actively developing an app for tablets, and this has ground my progress to a halt. Anyone else experiencing this? Have a fix?
Have you tried a different USB port (on hub) or a direct USB port on the motherboard?

Yeah, that doesn't do anything.
Well mine wasnt working all i did was take the usb out uncheck usb debuggin and plugged it back in and it worked..
Yeah, I've tried enabling/disabling USB debugging, plugging and unplugging the USB. Still nothing.
Again, the behavior I'm getting is that the tablet is indicating that USB debugging is on when I plug the device in. I get the USB debugging icon in the tablet's system tray. But Windows 7 just isn't seeing it. This sure seems to be a driver issue.
Finally got it working. It took doing a factory reset on the device.
I had to turn off usb debugging, then plug usb back in.... tablet said that I had to disable bluetooth, disabled and it worked pefectly! So could it possibly be a problem with bluetooth!?!?

Windows won't recognize my SGS2

Hi,
I have for two days tried getting my PC to recognize my SGS2. With no luck. I want to ROOT my phone.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and gingerbread v2.3.5
- USB-debugging is turned OFF.
- I have tried to format the SD-card, even used different SD-cards.
- I have tried using another PC, with no luck.
- Tried diffrent versions of Kies; 1.5, 2.0, and 2.1
- Tried diffrent versions of the Samsung Mobile driver; 1.3 and 1.4.8
- Tried using a different USB-cable (the one I'm using, is original and i can see that my phone is charging.)
- I have formatted the phone several times.
- I have tried typing *#7284# and changes the USB setting from Modem -> PDA
- Windows Drivers are up-to-date.
- I cannot see anything in the Device manager.
What else is there to do? Is something wrong with my phone?
Is there any APK, besides from Gingerbreak, that i can use to root my phone?
Cheers
Could you tried it in another PC with Windows XP?
When you plug it in to the USB port... Does the phone start to charge up?
Sounds like a hardware issue, i too have Windows 7 X64 on my laptop and no such problems.
Give a shot with USB debugging to ON.

I had the same problem.
This may sound stupid, but it does work, try another USB port.
I just plugged my USB cable into either one of the front USB ports on my PC (WinXP) and sometimes the phone connected (Debugging ON: phone was an external hard drive. Debugging OFF: phone connected to KIES) and other times it didn't. I tried toggling the Debugging, switching off and on the phone, changing USB cables, uninstalling KIES and then reinstalling KIES.
I finally noticed that the phone worked fine on the front left USB port and not on the front right. I have the same thing happening on my work's PC (only it was the front right port that worked). The rear USB ports didn't work.
I doubt that it is a problem with the PC operating system (I found out later that someone with a Mac had the same problem). It therefore must be with the phone's software recognising a connection with a computer and only wanting to connect through that initial connection port.

ive noticed this problem too of it only working with certain usb ports and not others on the same pc. Quite annoying when i was trying to use my phone to transfer some files from another computer and the phone wasnt picked up by the computer.
I think it may have something to do with using MTP rather than standard USB mass storage.
Never plug your phone or any other usb powered device into your front USB ports. most of them do not supply full power. As a matter of practice you should always plug your phone into a direct motherboard USB port on the back of your computer.
I had the same problem with my front ports several times on several computers. My first galaxy S1 would not work on my front port either. all problems were solved by plugging into the direct motherboard usb ports.
Why would you turn USB debugging off?

Do you have Administrator rights?
try installing drivers manually on your pc
and then plug the phone ( usb debugging off )
Try 32bit system
Try using a 32bit XP or 7 PC someone I know had the same problem their Win 7 never gave the problem when flashing or connection with their SGS2 for over 6 months. And just the other day they had a problem so they used a XP 32 bit PC connect ok flashed ok once the phone was rebooted they connect to their Win 7 64bit and the PC saw their handset. So what gives

I have plugged in many different phones and other devices that take their power from the Front USB ports on my PC. Power has never been a problem. Recognising a device can sometimes be a problem (but the same problem happens with the rear USB ports).
I regularly charge my SGSII via the Front USB port of my PC (both work and home). Quite a few of my workmates now do the same because a spare microUSB cable is much cheaper than a good mains charger and also they can back up their phone and transfer files as well.
This worked for me
1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
3. Plug the USB cable.
Sometimes if you're not using the cord that came with the phone it won't recognize the phone
I had the same problem with my phone but I found the cord the phone came with and it solved the problem

I have just installed SiyahKernel 2.3 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits did not recognize my SGS2.
What I did is turn on and then turn off the "USB debug" option. It was off at the beginning but... I did that just in case and...
That solved my problem.
Similar issue
My phone charges when plugged in but won't mount. It worked fine until about a month ago.
I'd similar problem.
My SGS2 couldn't be connected to PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) by USB cable, but it could be connected via Wi-Fi. I found out, that my, however original, USB cable was faulty (could only supply a juice from USB port ). When I used my wife's cable (she's got SGS2 too), everything was fine: my phone connected to PC, Kies v.2.1.0.11112_41 checked firmware and wanted to update, but couldn't do it, because battery was almost flat - I'm charging it now.
Will see tomorrow, however I was able to connect SGS2 to PC via USB cable
Still having the recognition problem, however you can get around it a number if ways. Use Kies wifi to get files to your phone. Use mobile Odin to flash.
Highly recommend to pay the $2 for pro version, that way it will stay rooted.

Please help! Note 3 wont stay connected to comp via usb!!!

Hi guys, I have this really weird issue occurring. I have my note 3 connected to my computer via usb, but it does not stay connected. My computer keeps making a noise of new device connected, then disconnected. The phone connects, few secs later, disconnects. I have tried 3 different usb, 1 is the original,, different usb ports. It cant be the cable tho, cause it charges fine, and i wiggled it while charging. I let the drivers install when i first plugged the n3 in, so those should be good.
Any idea? could it be a ROM issue? Really need it to work, since I use tethering (

What rom are you using? And have you tried reinstalling drivers from samsung? http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-note-3-drivers-installation-guide/ and have you tried just using the micro USB cable (not the USB 3.0)
biggins 4.5, yea i tried those drivers, didnt try usb2.0 yet.
Its literally sitting here connecting, then disconnecting on and on, i have no idea, not even moving it

It could be the data pins in the cable/phone, the power pins would still let it charge even though there's still supposed to be energy going through the data pins when charging. And have you selected a different option when plugging it into the computer (from installer, media device, to camera) from the options that note 3 provides? (click the icon in the status bar when you plug it in)
yea i tried camera, its on installer by default i think and i tried mtp also, usb3.0 said it required airplane mod so i didnt try that. How could i check the pins>

Well it you look at the port and they're not bent or snapped then it isn't the pins. What about USB 2.0?
Will try 2.0 tomorrow, here is a pic of the pins, if you zoom in do they look ok?

What OS is your computer running? There are some USB issues with windows 8.1. I was having the same problem at times but there was a fix in optional updates that have seemed to clear things up for now. I think it's the download numbered...2914219. I'm not completely sure as I did a few weeks ago.
Just for the record, I have had trouble with certain cables in the past. Sometimes computer didn't like a long cable.
Pins are absolutely fine, only reason I even mentioned those was because one time a little kid plugged my streak 7 cord in upside down and jacked the female port to crap. And as TheAfroSamurai mentioned it might be your computer, I had trouble with a long cable with my kin 2. Different cable fixed it for me.

Nexus player not showing up in Device Manager

I'm trying to unlock boot loader and root my device, But for some reason when I plug my nexus player into my computer no drivers get installed and under device manager there is no android device or anything of that nature under any of the categories. I've made sure developer debugging and USB debugging are enabled and turned on, but nothing seems to work. I even installed google usb drivers if that has anything to do with it. So does anyone know why its not showing up?

Most likely it's the USB cable or OTG cable, one of the two could be faulty. Another thing, try different USB ports on your PC. Try turning the USB debugging on and off several times, USB cable and OTG cable must be attached to your PC, while doing this. Remember now, your PC must also be authorized for the connection. You should see a white pop up, just check mark the block, click on OK.

Yes try different USB ports and different USB cables. My PC didn't recognize the NP when using the front USB ports, but it works fine when using the back ports.

It shows up if I turn debugging on and off a lot but when restarting while rooting it wont show up again and I think this is the reason my rooting isnt working right could that be a problem?

My phone won't recognize being connected to any computers after trying to usb tether

Hi all, I haven't been here for a while now, but I figure that this is the best place to put my issue besides maybe reddit. So I was trying to activate USB tethering yesterday as i do a lot in order to play some games on my computer since i don't have access to any ethernet, and something went wrong and it didn't activate despite having hit the switch on the phone. I unplugged my phone to turn it off since my computer hadn't recognized the tethering and tried to activate it again, but this time my phone only made the charging noise and wasn't picking up my computer at all. I then restarted my phone to see if that was the issue and got the same result. I then tried to plug it into my laptop to see if my computer was the problem and it did the same thing.
Today I tried plugging my phone into my laptop with my usb-c to usb-c cable (instead of my go-to usb-c to usb-a cable that came with the phone) and got some signs of life from the laptop, it makes the sound that says its plugged in, but the phone still only charges and the laptop picks up my phone as "USB root hub (USB 3.0)" and "Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host controller-1.10 (Microsoft)" in device manager. I also just tried clearing the cache in recovery but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it?
Unrooted (duh), AT&T model (sorry idk the model numbers like i used to), latest updates and security patches etc
EDIT: power cycled it (let it die and turned it back on a few times until it wouldn't turn on again) and charged it back up again and that seems to have fixed my issue.
