http://androidheadlines.com/2010/08/droid-xs-are-having-rebooting-issues.html
I've never had a problem with my phone rebooting. Had it since the 3rd of August. The only problem I ever had was MMS not sending but they fixed it right away.
I had an issue with it that got progressively worse, and Verizon had me factory reset it, and when it still happened the next day, they sent me a new phone.
I have never had a single reboot on my Droid X.
I have had this issue with every X, I am on my third.
I'm on my second X and I haven't had the issue yet
I only had one instance of it, but that's because of an incompatibility between Blur and a Weather Channel app.
I've never had any freezing or rebooting until I installed the leaked froyo update
now my phone freezes about twice a day and it requires a battery pull

Hi all,
my hero crashed every now and then, i'm not sure what causes this. This really annoys me, because taking out the hero battery is a hassle. It happens like this:
- hero is in sleep mode for some time
- i can't wake it up anymore, doesn't react to any hardware button input. Screen stays black.
- i can't softreset
- only taking the battery out will help out.
Now i want to know who the culprit is, and use a logfile app. My problem is following:
will the logfile app help me at all, AFTER the crash has occured and i reboot the phone? Will the logfile have entries from BEFORE the last startup, or is everything lost by rebooting my device?
Thanks,
shahpur
Shahpur, I have this problem and when I called HTC Europe they said they have never heard of this happening. You press every button and nothing happens. You don't know it's off because the screen is in sleep anyway!! And like you the only thing that gets the phone back is taking the battery out. And then it comes on again. I initially took sim and battery out when it happened, but after it's happened a few times I now know you only need to take the battery out which is a pain, because no buttons will wake the phone when it dies. They said it is probably a hardware problem and not software so a reset or upgrade of ROM will not make any difference and want about 3 or 4 weeks to repair phone, which is not even 2 months old.
Has anyone else had this problem yet? The phone just dies until you take battery out.
I've done 2 factory resets but nothing helps, and I don't want to send it back for a repair.
How often does yours do this?
hmm i would say it happens sporadically every now and then, maybe once a week or so.
But this is definetly not an hardware issue. If the OS fails to respond after getting into sleep mode, i can't imaging that this is a hardware fault which works flawlesss otherwise. I never had any problems with the hardware buttons when working with the device so i think this has to be software od OS related...i have a lot of 3rd party apps and i think it has to do with them...
I will not send my device back because:
you cant easily reproduce this bug, so i'm pretty sure that the repair center will not be able to reproduce and fix this issue. Therefore you might get the same device back, or another device which may also have any other problem like dead pixels, LED problems and so on.
Since my hero is working perfectly and has no other issues besides this annoying bug, i will wait for the next android update and hope that this will help the system get more stable...
well they said I was the only one that reported it and as I am in the UK and you are in Germany I doubt this is true. But I would be interested to hear if anyone else has reported this issue. It's really annoying, I get it every few days, and on Monday twice in one day. It's not where I am as it has happened in 3 different locations, but I don't have any 3rd party apps, or any apps downloaded, so it is not that I'm sure. Have you done the new update and had the problem since then as well as before the update?
i think i had the issue already with the old firmware, and the new firmware didn't fix it too. My device also crashed twice yesterday...
interesting to see that your device crashes without any 3rd party apps...so i think the best way to dig deeper, is to check the logfiles.
hope somebody can answer my logfile app question, so i can find out what was the last task before the device crashed.
Yep, there are no added apps on mine, yet........ So, don't worry about them, It's the phone that you and I have. But we are in the minority. I was offered a reconditioned by Orange, but I don't want a second hand phone with more problems like you say
Just as a matter of interest, what happens if you call the phone when it is in this state?
Regards,
Dave
Well it's dead/off, so answerphone......
Sorry to bump this thread, but I am also having the same issue. Did anyone manage to resolve this issue?
Me too!
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be happening more often. I have sent an email to HTC but no reply yet.
Any fixes?
Mine is a SIM free purchase from Play.com
in my case it was most definetly a 3rd party app which caused the crashes. Since i have like 40 apps installed i'm not sure anymore which one was the culprit, but it seems like i have either uninstalled the app or a recent update fixed the problems.
i didn't get any freeze for many weeks now.
HTC Reply
Got an email back from HTC advising a Hard Reset. Did this last night and no more crashes so far. Fingers crossed
I've reset mine maybe 4 times in 4 months, but I still get this problem
Any update from anyone on this little running saga of the invisible offs?
Has anyone had their phone randomly reboot? It's happened to me twice now (twice in 4 weeks). Both times the phone was in my coat pocket and I felt it vibrate (which surprised me since all vibration effects are off), and was even more surprised to see the MT4G splash screen (meaning it was rebooting). The phone is not rooted and is running the stock OTA ROM.

Are you sure? I was hoping it wasn't since it does not happen frequently, which I would think it would if it was a real problem. I'd assumed it was just a software glitch (both times it's happened I've been in a building with weak signal). I'd really like to know for sure before sending it in, because that will most likely mean getting a re-manufactured unit.
EDIT: after thinking about it, I realized it happened before when receiving a text. The incoming message indicator briefly appeared, but before I could read it, the phone rebooted. I then texted the person who I assumed texted me, and indeed they had just texted me. That has only happened once (this was several weeks ago).
Happens to me about twice a week as well. I just live with it.

Was just browsing around to see if anyone else had this problem as I did. First time was when I just got it. The second time (same week) it rebooted when I was getting ready to text someone back who just text me.
Phones getting replaced because a dead pixel. Hopefully that one has a good screen like this one and no problems.
So this started happening only 2 days after getting my G2. Basically my phone reboots randomly whenever I unlock the lock screen. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that it really bugs me and I'm considering factory reset, but I dont want to lose my info and have the reboots still continue

**Yes I am also getting random reboots when unlocking the screen. At first I thought it had to do with the lock screen type I used or the lock screen pattern but it is still happening now that I'm using a pin to unlock my phone. I am completely stock and got the phone the day it came out.
The reboot happened a couple times within a few minutes and seems very random upon unlocking the screen. If others are experiencing this I highly suggest posting here.
I came from the LG G2X and that phone had a similar issue involving random reboots but was definitely fixed by LG eventually. My Asus Transformer Prime had a random reboot issue as well and eventually fixed.

Got my G2 5 days ago and have had at least 3 random reboots or shut off reboots the the last three days.
Today 4 times reboot when unlocking with Code unlock.
Actually considering returning the product.
did you try uninstalling some of the stuff you installed? One by one?
Did you try factory reset?
Stock everything?

I don't really have anything crazy intensive on my phone but it's worth a shot.
As of today I have had several reboots when unlocking the screen. This occurs whether I have the lock screen active or not.
I am considering returning the phone too if this keeps happening. I'm absolutely sick and tired of defects/bugs (whatever you want to call them) like these plaguing my devices.
all it takes is bad install of apps, wacked permissions and what have you.
Eliminate all software possibilities before you blame your phone m8 .
nope completely stock
this just started happening to me today, no idea why... I haven't installed any new apps lately. is it a problem with my phone? you think swapping it out will fix the problem?

lol factory reset and wait few hours, dont restore backups and stuff, that eliminates about everything!
whats left, bad rom, but at that point warrantee
I have stock lg g2 doing same thing. A hard reset didn't work and I have only basic apps that came on phone. However I have been able to turn off lock screen and so far no reboots (yet). T-Mobile has given me a runaround about getting it replaced. Still inside my buyers remorse,I have finally gotten a supervisor to give me a new phone. Tmobile supervisor confirmed lg g2 having a lot of issues. So that said I'm saying goodbye to lg g2, going with something else. Tmobile finally took care of me after being on hold for 5hrs and talking to countless people! Lg g2 has issues but T-Mobile has major issues and that's being really polite!!!

i exchanged it
i went in to tmobile last night to exchange my phone. it took two hours because of a some $1.12 price difference but they eventually got it to work with some trickery. i'm a very patient person anyway.
literally while i was typing this response i was going to say i didn't have the random reboot but JUST F'ING NOW it happened again. I'm immediately doing a factory reset and UNFORTUNATELY and using the phone without instalilng a damn thing. hopefully i can get some idea of what the problem is before my 14 day return window is up or else this phone is going back as much as i hate to say it.
I had a similar problem with my phone while trying to unlock it. Once it started rebooting, it would go into an almost endless cycle of reboots. Sometimes as much as 20 reboots in a row.
I had tmobile exchange the phone for me. No issues since with the replacement. I do definitely think there is a bad batch of G2s out there.

Let me start off by saying I'm a jeweler and am used to looking for stress cracks developing inside of stones, well I found this issue with 2 LG G2s.
I am on my third G2, not because of rebooting but because the sapphire glass that covers the camera starts developing micro cracks running across the lense, has happened twice now, I had it in one of those windowed cases, they suck don't bother, no protection. Anyways, had this issue with the transformer tf201, microcracks develop along edge, then bang, giant crack from corner to corner, no mis use needed, was just bad design. These microcracks are all internal, no breaking the surface.
The way you find them is get light to reflect off of the glass covering the camera, now slowly roll the phone side to side and back and forth, now look for lines reflecting light back at you. If you see those exchange the phone, they will eventually grow, like a windshield crack, and feacture ruining the camera optics.
Hope no one else has this issue, oh and this third LG G2 came with the Isis sim in the box, unlike my first 2, I'm in chicago.

Clean Rom 1.0. No problems or reboots. I have had the phone for about 2 weeks.
Picked up the phone day 1, no issues at all. Fantastic device!
The recent update to gmail was the culprit for me. I started getting the reboots immediately after the update. I uninstalled updates in app settings this morning and haven't gotten a reboot in 12 hours. Maybe it's an issue with the gmail lockscreeen widget after the update? I'm on the verizon g2.
same rebooting issue here for my TMO version. thought it was my lockscreen widget from nils, but then it consisted after i took it off, and still consisted after i factory reset it. so I exchanged the device and got a new one.. same day I got it, it started rebooting again. thinking about just returning but its such a good phone, sad if it has to come down to it.
Simple as this. Random 'reboots are bad. If it's uprooted, exchange it. If it's rooted, use a diff Rom or figure out what you did. One random reboot is enough for me to go ape **** lol. My gnexus did it once and I was back at the store that day.

update
quick update. since exchanging the G2 for another G2 I have not had any random reboots. I did take into account the advice from a previous post on this topic that his gmail update may been the catalyst for the reboots. I waited to update gmail until a few minutes ago so we'll see how it goes.
I went ahead and gave this device a try despite the numerous issues popping up. It's a beautiful phone with a great build but once I set it up and started messing with it, I noticed it restarts every couple of minutes, even when sitting on a table.
I do not have the bootloader unlocked, have yet to pick up a nano sim, and it seems to happen only when on WiFi, at least so far.
Anybody else having this particular issue?
Do a hard reset and if not resolved just return and get replacement unit.
Your device is defective(faulty)
Unexpected restart is most of all hardware issue especially since it's brand new device with few hours used.
I remember having that kind of issue few years ego with HTC One X and just returned the device back to the store.

In November I had bought 2 Samsung Galaxy S5's from Walmart through Straight Talk. One for me and my Wife. They worked perfectly until about the middle of March, and my Wife's phone had kept restarting non stop whether she was on it or not. Sometimes more than once in a 30 second span. Then one day it didn't do it for about 2 days.. then MY PHONE starts doing it. Non stop all throughout the night and just die from battery drainage. I eventually contact Straight Talk to do a swap for a different one since I still had warranty. It takes them about 10 days total for me to get my replacement. The entire time my phone was sent out my Wife's never restarted or acted up once. I get my replacement yesterday and mine phone is running great and hers tonight just RESTARTED ON IT'S OWN. I'm very confused because it seems are phone's are making one another restart? I have heard problems of the S5's restarting for no real reason at all, but why would hers be doing it only when I had gotten mine back up and running? I'm seriously out of answers and tired of this restarting issue happening. We have tried factory reset, freeing up space, deleting all apps, safe mode, clearing cache often, and the problem still persists. If anyone could help, I would be truly thankful!
