I flew from Austin to Los Angeles two days ago and have been unable to get a 3G signal since. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried everything I can think of to get 3G working again. I have a G1 literally sitting next to my Streak and only the G1 has 3D.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, in case you were wondering, it's one of the beta phones that is unlocked for T-Mo.

Is that not one of the Streaks that was Blocked
I thought only AT&T beta phones lost their connectivity.
I have on of the unlocked versions that works with T-Mobile. The only thing that isn't working is 3G.
Is anyone else having the same issue?
In Austin Same issue. I don't know if I have ever had tmo 3g but I do no im on an unlocked beta unit.
Currently only edge with tmo sim
Have you tried forcing WCDMA only under the settings / wireless conrtols / mobile networks / network type ? It works for me in the UK - US may be different.
That didn't work for me. I also have one of the beta phones that works with T-Mobile, but I am not getting 3G.
Do you guys think T-Mobile killed the 3G connectivity now that the beta is over?
So I called T-mobile last night and got through to the technical support people. Sure enough, they "blocked the ports for the beat units". Sucks to be me.
BE WARNED: if you buy a beta Streak so that you can use it on T-mobile, you WILL NOT GET 3G.

Okay so i'm in an area where T-mobile only has edge coverage and I'm hating my life right now without 3G, but AT&T has 3G coverage here, so why won't it let me roam on to the faster network? I can pull it up under network services but it just won't let me actually roam on to the network. Is this an issue of the phone simply not having the VPN's and such? Cuz if T-mobile won't charge me for roaming I damn well wanna use it! I'm using Cyanogen's Mod and the Hero 1.3.5 theme. All I want for my birthday is 3G!!!
They use different frequency's for the 3G signal.. thats why unlocked G1's can't use att 3g even if they have a AT&T sim
Hmm... seems strange the G1 would still be able to see the network being that it's using a different signal. Is there any way around this? Cuz they just stationed me in Quantico, VA for the rest of the summer and I'm ready to shoot myself on this Edge crap! And sadly 2 months is just too short of a time to actually get internet installed lol
hum.. I doubt it will help any but thier are som VPN settings floating around the board here that haykuro made. most ROMS come with it, I doubt it'll help though.
if that doesn't help take 2 Motrin and drink plenty of water. /end navy joke
Haha, yeah I'm a corpsman, we're working down here at the Marine Corps officer candidate school, so my mantra has been "Take Motrin, hydrate, and change your socks." These past couple weeks. Yet they somehow still mess those things up lol.

Im sorry to say but you cant use 3G on AT&T. Tmobile didnt want to wait for any bands in the 1700mhz or 1900mhz band to become available, so there 3G runs in the 2100/1700mhz band and that is the only band the G1 can use to get 3G. You can see AT&T service but that is voice, not 3G. AT&T 3G runs over the 1700/1900mhz band. here is a artical about this.

You must be barely outside of their coverage area. The map shows 3g coverage on both sides of where you are. The schedule that is floating around says they are supposed to expand coverage to Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Richmond, and Virginia Beach this summer so you might get lucky and get it before you leave.
Quantico's huge, T-Mobile has no 3G service there, and WiFi is out as NMCI doesn't permit wireless APs.
You're stuck with EDGE on T-Mobile, or EDGE on AT&T if you roam, but you won't get a speed increase if you use it, just a roaming charge. The problem is the frequency, as others have mentioned. AT&T uses 850/1900 where as T-Mobile uses 1700/2100. There's no known way (yet *crosses fingers) to use a T-Mobile G1 with AT&T's 3G service, so sadly, you're going to be stuck for 2 months out there with what you have.
I have my Dream working on AT&T's 3G service, and it works quite well, but it's not a G1. I specifically bought a Rogers Canadian HTC Dream (which is band-compatible with AT&T) for this purpose. So if you're *that* desperate for 3G service, you could spring for a Rogers Dream or Magic phone, but they aren't cheap. Additionally, they don't run custom ROMs yet (we just got root on the Rogers Dream this morning, and the Rogers Magic was only last week). So... There is no perfect solution for you yet if you want 3G and root. I've been living on my ADP1 with EDGE for 5 months now, and it isn't *that* bad, I guess.
On the more "bleeding edge" frontier, there's speculation that if one were to flash the Rogers dream radio to the T-Mobile G1, that it would do 3G on AT&T instead of T-Mo, but nobody's been able to get it done yet. A few people say it's the same chipset, it'll work, a few others say it won't, but till somebody tries it, we'll never know for sure. Either way, it's not currently possible as we don't have a Rogers Dream radio image.
So, there's your options I'm afraid. And something else to consider - even though AT&T says they have 3G, check with somebody else who has their service to see if they're actually getting it first. Quantico is a huge base, and there's no cell towers on it to my knowledge. So it's possible that nobody is getting 3G signal there, on either network.
Hello everybody.
The reason for this question and poll is to have an idea of the 3G signal issue on this phone.
Are you having 3G problems with your AT&T-Rogers?Problems with your TMobile Nexus One?
Which one is working better for you? That is the main question.
Let us know.
Thanks community.
How does the question you're asking help you tell anything at all about 3G issues on either phone?
I'm having zero issues with my ATT N1. Its getting speeds about the same my Tilt 2 was. Around this area, ATT is king, Tmobile is garbage.
I haven't had problems with either my t-mobile or at&t nexus ones, although my at&t version gets less battery life than my t-mobile one did. My friend has the t-mobile version and seems to have some 3g issues at her house.

Are you sure T-Mobile is really 'garbage?' Their coverage map shows good voice coverage and 3G data in Hagerstown, MD.
From what I've seen, their coverage maps don't tend to 'lie' either.
Its coverage not the phone... I accidentally hit I have a 3g issue before reading. But I don't, only when in crappy coverage but all my phones do that so no problem with tmobile
well that was stupid of me, i thought this poll was for which phone works better for you....LOL so i clicked on ATT
No problems witht the ATT one and when i had the tmobile days before the ATT came out, i could never get a 3g signal in my house and cant get full when outside.
But i think those are issues with the coverage/service provider not the phone.
I live in the upper left corner of Ohio. According to both coverage maps, the best I can do is edge.... So anyone here from Ohio like to comment please?
I got really happy today when I discovered XDA developers through Google. There seems to be a wealth of information on this forum.
I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy S2 in India and I have to say, the quality exceeded my expectations, seriously.
I also signed up for Airtel's 3G service, and the service was working fine for the first 2-3 days with speeds exceeding ~3mbps (>3000kbps).
However, here is where my problem started:
Just a couple of days back I was simultaneously downloading a bunch of free Apps from the Marketplace and somewhere in the middle my 3G speeds dropped. I seriously don't know what happened. I have the flexible package from Airtel which gives 1.25 gigabytes, and according to my phone, I've used only 550 megabytes at that time.
Now, my speeds are locked at 40kbps (according to Speedtest and web browsing experience) and I don't if it is my phone having the issue or if it is my SIM or Airtel Prepaid account (I am 99.9% percent I have not exceeded the balance or else talktime would have already been deducted by now), or a technical glitch on Airtel's server-end.
I have tried disabling / enabling fast dormancy, disabling / enabling HSPDA, configuring WCDMA Only, and manually configuring the Airtel settings. Yet, none of that worked.
I am feeling very frustrated and would appreciate any help in addressing this matter. Thanks in advance.
There are a couple of Indian specific threads that you'd be better off getting help in. This is the biggest one...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995752
I would like to read feedback from folks around the world as well.
I've already gone through the mentioned Indian thread and I have to say, it requires a moderator.
Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
same problem on t-mobile
i bought the sgs2 2 months ago , i live in the us now and i bought it unloked from amazon. i put my simcard from tmobile in it , previously was using a nexus one. i have unlimited data plan but only get edge speeds on it which is very frustrating. on the nexus i was getting 3g speeds. one time while i was driving (i live in florida) i managed to get a 3g signal but the speeds were still in the edge range. most of the time i`m using wifi, but since i`m paying for the data plan, id like for my phone to be able to use it.
if anybody would be able to enlighten me about how to go about my problem i would appreciated it.

You won't get 3g speeds on tmobile because sgs2 doesn't have the necessary tmobile 3g bands. If you want 3g and hspa+ speeds thru sgs2, switch to att.

Unfortunately for us (My SGS2 will arrive later today) T-mobile uses different 3G/4G bands than most other carriers worldwide.... so we are stuck with EDGE (2G)
On a side note how are the speeds when browsing on EDGE? Is it painfully slow? If so try downloading Opera mini it should help quite a bit since it renders everything server side
thanks
thanks for the prompt answers , after a little research i`ve found out exactelly the same thing, that i have to switch to at&t to get better speeds and i probably will.
yes , surfing on 2g is horribly slow and my 70$ unlimited plan is useless
just did a speedtest 133kbps/down 94k up , ridiculous :'(
Any suggestions or advices for the 3G problems
HI, I am also facing the same problem of 3G of low speeds any updates regarding this?
Any chance your provider might be throttling your speeds based on usage behaviour?
Took mine to service center, having the same simptoms as described by you, the resolution was: faulty motherboard -> replace. Not a firmware issue...a hardware one.
Hello,
I have a Nexus 4, my carrier is Telus. I have had my phone for 3 weeks now. When I first got it, I used the *#*#4636#*#* trick to get LTE on my phone. It worked great! According to speed test I was getting 27mbps download, whereas on HSPA+ i got 7mbps.
In the last two days, for some reason my phone will not work on the LTE network. I get full bars but they are grey. Also, when the connection used to work, there would be flashing up and down arrows on the signal bars. Now, there is only a flashing up arrow (no down arrow).
I called telus tech support and had them reset the connection to my phone, I also bought a new micro sim card, neither worked.
I do not require LTE by any means, but it is disappointing that I cannot figure this out. Has anyone had a similar problem? I spent the last few days checking other posts and there doesn't seem to be anything similar posted. If there is, I apologize, I am a noob, and I watched the noob video.
Take care

Hey there. Fell Canadian (and TELUS customer) here. I live in British Columbia, and I just checked my LTE and it seems to be working. Are you using a custom ROM? What Baseband version do you have? I'm on M9615A 2.0.1700.33. Hope this helps.

I am in Toronto. I told google that my device makes a buzzing noise (which it does) and they are sending me a replacement. Hopefully the new phone won't have the same connectivity issues.
Did you try changing your APN settings? I know for Rogers customers, there is a specific/different APN to use when you want to use their LTE network on your Nexus 4.
does it work without LTE? if you go back into the settings and change it back to the default, does it work on HSPA+ or 3g?
My LTE works, and is really really fast. download is about 90mbits/s and upload is about 75. I am in Barrie Ontario, on Koodo.
However, the speedtest app will not work, no matter what I do. So I have to use some other crappy app. Anyone else?
So, since the forum search won't work... I'm making a new thread.
I was previously running Chroma ROM and I couldn't get my Project Fi sim to work for the life of me, so I figured it was the sim card that was the problem and I ordered a new one. New one arrived Monday, popped that sucker in and... nothing, still not working, so I reluctantly reverted to stock OTA and finally got it to read the sim card. Everything was working well except I cannot get a signal from T-Mobile on band 12. I'm in a area where band 12 is the only T-Mobile coverage. According to their map I should be getting "Good Signal" outdoors and somewhat indoors, well I get nothing, zip, notta. Now while I do get 1-2 bars on sprint 3g, I would obviously prefer T-Mobile LTE for many reasons. But even using the dialer codes to force T-Mobile, it would just time out or revert back to sprint after 5 minutes of no signal. So I chatted with a Project Fi rep and she tried her best but couldn't figure it out. So that is why I am here. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, please help. Other than stock I do have the bootloader unlocked but that shouldn't matter. So if there is some magic script or file(s) I need to delete/change, let me know. Thanks everyone!
Oh, and I was running a verizon sim before that and was having the LTE bug. That's why I switched to Fi.

Where do you live, check this link if you haven't already and make sure you're in one of the good areas and not near the edges. That's all I can think of.

I was previously on Verizon and was running PureNexus, I connected to T-Mobile just fine on band 12, but my problem was it never connected to Sprint.
