[Q]White Epic? - Epic 4G General

Okay so i'm curious does anyone think they will come out with a white version of the Epic4g like a month after its released like they did with the Evo and ILame? I haven't heard any news on a White Vibrant or Captivate so its doubtful but i do suppose this is possible as it is the Samsung Galaxy S Pro

My money is on never.

That'd be awesome if they did make one, but I doubt it and waiting an extra month for a phone this awesome isn't worth it being a different color, just buy a case or put skins on it or something.

They won't make one, no other Galaxy S has any colors announced and Samsung doesn't operate like HTC. Sprint can tell HTC to make a rainbow colored Evo and they'd just nod and make some because that's what they do, they special order custom made phones for different carriers. Samsung and it's Galaxy S series, they take stuff like this much more seriously and will want them to look the way they want to not the carrier.

Thats not exactly true...there is a White Galaxy S coming to a carrier in Spain...so its not like it didn't happen..how likely it is for the Epic 4g though is another story.

You know what I think will be totally cool and awesome? Not a white one. A shiny chrome or nickel-plated one. YEAH!

We need to go a step farther..we need some designer to make an Epic out of pure gold..and another one studded with diamonds..just like they did with the iphone >.>..lol
Look wise personally I'm fine with black but I wish for some alternative battery covers...it looks a little plain on the back :/

It's been done a few times, quick search:

And there's also an iPhone with pure gold and diamonds all around it, most expensive piece of garbage ever.

Samsung has been making customized phones for Sprint for a LOONNGGG time. They two companies have the longest running partnership of any manufacturer on the Sprint network. All Sprint has to do is ask Samsung and they will (literrally) ship a few dozen engineers from Korea and start cranking out phone prototypes at Sprints Kansas headquarters.
If you dont believe how far Samsung is willing to customize their phones, just look at their Galaxy S lineup in the US. All have the basic core functionalities the same, however, their external designs/features/content/software are all different. This is just the 4 carriers, Samsung is scheduled to release their Galaxy S line up in 110 carriers worldwide. That is a massive amount of engineers, designers, QC workers in force.

Waiting for the Sprint Nexus One? Might want to look at the Evo...

http://gizmodo.com/5535436/sprint-wont-sell-the-nexus-one
"When Sprint's Michelle Leff Mermelstein told us that the company wouldn't be selling the Nexus One because of the "upcoming availability of the award-winning Evo 4G," it didn't change much for your average user. The Evo, like the Incredible, looks at least as enticing as the Nexus One, and even shares a lot of the same hardware. Where it diverges, Sprint says it's a "more robust, full-featured device," which, well, it is."
Sprint, like Verizon did earlier this year, has decided to not sell the Nexus One. I could never see a reason to choose this over the awesomeness that will be the Evo (even with the wonky Android upgrade schedule), but I know some people were still waiting for it. Sort of makes sense though, they were only going to run the risk of cannibalizing each other. If I was Sprint, I'd want the Evo to get all the attention too.
(Just a note: I know this is the CDMA Hero community, not the Nexus One forum or anything, but this is the group I connect with and with our investment in Sprint, I thought it was worthy of our forum. I don't go anywhere else on XDA.)
Sorry Fixxer2008
Just because the Evo is on the same network doesn't mean that I, and I suspect many others, wouldn't still consider and possibly choose the N1. While the Evo does seem like it will be the phone on Sprint to have, it also may not fit everyone's tastes. Not to mention that if Google has the ability to upgrade the N1 immediately to the next available Android OS instead of us having to wait for HTC and Sprint to figure it out, well that right there would probably push many folks to buy it before the Evo. I think Sprint is dropping the ball here because more options are always better than less.
i think i just heard fixxers head explode
It does really sadden me that Sprint has chose to do this. I really wanted a Nexus One over an EVO 4G.
A few reason as to why:
Established Community
Vanilla Android is SO much quicker & has a better battery life opposed to Sense.
I like choices.
I don't 4G coverage & probably won't 4G coverage in my area for a long time.
This is Verizon and Sprint's big mistakes. They don't want to give up control over the devices, and Google doesn't want to give them control over this device.
Google is attempting to shake up the hardware sales revenue stream that the carriers have and they are trying to stomp it out.
Unfortunately, it is us, the customers who get hurt by it.
Pretty sad, because I thought Sprint really was turning things around, but it appears they are still the same ol' Sprint.
Confirmed the information here:

i have a good offer on the moment right now but there is hardly any development for it so im not sure. i do have a feeling once the EVO comes out that will be sprints flagship android device of the year and the hero will be left behind. ill have to look up the galaxy, thanks.
I can see why people are mad and want a google phone that gets updated directly from google.
Alot of people think the evo is too big. The nexus has nice size and looks pretty sleek.
But the Evo does have much better specs, and does still get 3G.
Plus you can turn sense off, and if you root (when these guys figure out how)
You can remove the HTC lockscreen, and make and revert all the HTC apps back to stock, and the device will run faster.
But the nesux one on sprint for $99 would be a hell of a deal and would pull alot of customers who want a cool smartphone but don't need everything the EVO does.
Plus sprint better not go out of stock the first day, I want an evo
Well this is disappointing news

the evo will take awhile to root and most devs here prefer sense. "some" of us here realize that sense is buggy, takes up too much ram and is all about eye candy.
the nexus would of kicked ass if it was released.

the evo is a nice device but not exactly pocket friendly. plus alot of the features i won't even use.
The Nexus One is an amazing device, the Evo is also an amazing device. Sprint should carry both and just make everyone happy and put money in their big pockets!

Nexus S stands for sucky!!!!!

When I saw a picture of the Nexus S, I thought, what a ugly phone. Then, I saw that it's made by Samsung, nothing against Samsung but to me their phones are cheap The phone doesn't deserve the Nexus name. IMO HTC makes the best phones. I have three friends that have Galaxy S's, and their always asking me for my N1, to use my navigation, and make phone calls, because they're always losing their signal, and their GPS is screwy, plus they have ****ty battery life, so they live on their chargers. I keep telling them to root, but they want me to do it for them, I stopped rooting peoples phones who refuse to educate themselves about rooting, because they're always calling you with problems, because they don't understand. Another thing, I was thinking about buying the Evo, but my friend has it and the resolution is crap, the colors are dull, almost to the point of transparency, I think HTC focused too much on having the biggest screen, so I won't be buying that crap, I thought that all the high-end android devices after the N1 would blow us out, but have done nothing except confirm that I made the right choice with my Sexy Nexy, so we'll be together a little while longer. I thought the N2 would go in the direction of the Desire look, that's a classy phone, that has a professional look for older gents like myself, I'm very disappointed that Google gave Samsung the contract.

hmm yeah that will be it. so samsungs crappy build is no longer a concern.
the "ill never buy a samdung" brigade have scuttled back under there rocks.
Is it possible its something as simple as google wanting to continue use of a amoled screen capable phone for dev. phone purposes? I mean thats one of the main interest points ive noticed when anyone sees my N1. Everyone says "wow the screen is so crisp". Seeing how samsung took amoled away from everyone else just kind of makes sense on googles part if that be the case.
Nothing against HTC, they make great phones but i just wonder if use of amoled is more paramount than most give credit for. Look at it this way, all phone makers can more or less make the same kind of phones hardware wise. Only difference being is samsungs ability to use amoled. Just a thought , nothing more.
i read on here that HTC said the N1 would be thier first and last phone designed for a non carrier and that is why google had to go else where. I'd have prefered motorola, but samsung is an ok 2nd choice. HTC would obviously have been my first but they are out of the question. All i really care about is vanilla android with updates from google, a nice sized screen, good hardware, and a nice design.
the nexus S has all of the above minus the nice design...but it has helped me realize that the design weights a lot more in my purchasing decision than I had previously thought. I dont see myself buying a nexus s if it looks like the leaks orion processor or not

Curious waht iPhone users think of the Nexus-S ?

So any iPhone owners ditching Apple and coming to sexy Nexy Just curious to see what you think of the new Nexus-S compared to your old iPhone, specifically if any iPhone 4 users picked up a N-S, or have both ? What are your opinions ?
I bought the Nexus-S this morning, and loving it, the Super AMOLED screen is drool worthy, and it feels very snappy and fast. My Brother and Sister both have the iPhone 4, it is a cool little phone, even better, if jailbreaked and a custom theme and custom icons installed But my siblings not daring enough to attempt that, so in stock form I find the iPhone 4 super lame, with just rows of app icons and small 3.5" screen.
I think this Summer will be the biggest battle yet between the iPhone 5 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb phones. Should be pretty interesting to see what they both bring.
Well, I've been on T-Mobile since February. Got the Nexus One, Vibrant for like a week, then and unlocked iPhone 4 in July. Just got my Nexus S today, and I love it. The two OS's have their advantages and disadvantages. Customization is way better on Android, there's just more choice. The iOS is the most refined user experience, and is more consumer friendly. The two are about even when you average everything out, but Android has more choice in terms of hardware, software, carrier, so I believe it has the current advantage which has contributed to it's rapid growth.
Why do people have to always ask the iPhone user, the average iPhone user doesnt know jack about what a good phone is

Yea, I keep pretty cutting edge with phones... so when i go into my rogers store, apple store asking for accessories, phones etc.... most of the time they as what is that? lol....
no one even knew I could just cut my sim into a micro sim and walk out.... or if I ask for samsung focus accessories, or my favorite, when he tried to tell me not to get the galaxy tab because it cannot make voice calls.... and to buy an ipad....
either way, I enjoyed my iphone 4. It has a great ui, screen, speed, apps.. overall, a great phone.... however, after 3g, 3gs, 4... it gets a little boring..... my nexus one I thought was a great change of pace, then the 4, then the desire hd, samsung focus and nexus s....
it is smooth, fast and beautifully designed... I wish they stuck with htc... but that is another discussion... It is my first night playing with it though, my only downside is NO 3g on my carrier....

HTC doesn't make Super AMOLED screens, and all their phones look the same after a while. There are like 25 HTC HD2's now, the Desire/Nexus and those tiny 3" screen offsprings. They have no imagination, and throw their hideous Sense on all their crap.
The Nexus S on the other hand, I think the S is for Sexy. This phone is futuristic and slick, with its slight bend, screen looks infused into the phone, like they're one. Bottom headphone jack, bottom charging port, perfect spots. This phone looks like its a few years a head of the rest in design at least. I've gotten nothing but amazed/mesmerized reactions.

I agree on all your NS opinions, but IMO sense is easily the best OEM skin and I absolutely love HTC's hardware design ideas. My Evo is as gorgeous as a phone gets IMO. Better size screen than the NS; anyone that thinks its too big needs a fatter wallet or bigger undies, cause my Evo is definitely not the biggest thing in my pants Vanilla android, yes please. But personally, my experience with a grip of android phones tells me that HTC is far and away the best hardware quality OEM. If only they pushed the limit, ala Hummingbird 6 mo ago. Cant wait for the Scorpion, too bad my Verizon experiences have sucked like no other. Fortunately with this phone we get Samsungs amazing hardware with Google support. We all picked up the best single core phone, easy.
BBM store I picked up my Nexus at had 2-3 employees that I made good friends with just chatting about android and it's success and beautiful phones like the Nexus S (hey that rhymes lol) anyways, they knew I knew what I was talking about (more than they did) and, well, after all I had talked about I had them ALL considering very hard on switching to the Nexus S. 1 with an Iphone 4, 1 with a windows phone 7, and 1 with a blackberry. I got converts from all other competing platforms in 1 shot
Nice! All the BBM employees I interacted with had a iPhone4, and all of them knew nothing about Android. The sales douche even mentioned how awesome it was that the NS was running froyo. O wait.....

I would have to disagree and say the iPhone 4 is the best phone on the market. It has the best screen, best camera, best hd video, best app store, best music store, best video chat, best 3rd party accessories, and it's the thinnest. I would buy one if it were on T-Mobile (my mom has me on her family plan, can't beat free). So, instead I have an iPod 4G and a G2 (which ain't no slouch either).

Good point, iPhone4 is a fantastic phone. I use my brotherinlaws as much as he'll let me. But I like the NS's screen more than the iPhones IPS display. Apps honestly dont compare, but most Android fans (that arent living in Googles rectum) would concede that point unless theyre unfamilier with iOS. Qik works great so far for me. Talk to my sis in SLC all the time over it. iPhone is awesome, but the NS is more satisfying to my "must overclock/hack the crap out of" needs.

It's a promising sign but I'm not sure I'm quite convinced that Samsung is trying to change their ways. Of course, we also have no proof that HTC is going to truly unlock their bootloaders either.
My experience with 3 stock Samsung Android phones on Sprint has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
1. I had the original "Moment" from day 1. Paid $475 for it and had nothing but problems.
2. My wife has the "Transform" (I gave Samsung a mulligan for the Moment since it was 1st generation....) -- big mistake, almost as crappy as the Moment.
3. My Daughter has the "Intercept" -- got it at the same time as the Transform (so I did not have a chance to see that the Moment was more a precursor to the craptastic to come rather than a "one off" mistake.
Even without rooting and romming -- the EVO is head and shoulders above any of the Samsung phones I have seen. As far as being able to actually use it without weird things happening.
Yes....I said it --- that is the downfall of Samsung phones...."Weird things happen at a very slow pace, and even doing basic things like making a phone call or sending a text becomes a huge undertaking."
Had I not known better (owning other Android devices) -- could have sworn that Samsung was trying to make Android look like a steaming, buggy, not ready for prime time, piece of crap OS....When in fact it is not that at all.
As a last desperate measure before purchasing my EVO....I rooted and installed a custom ROM on my Moment -- and it actually was a pretty good experience to turn it into a device I could at least make phone calls on and send texts (which was worlds above stock Moment -- even though the GPS no longer worked.) So I can at least thank Samsung for forcing me to discover the world of custom roms.

That's a value added post if I ever saw one.
How is this not good news for the end user? A headset manufacturer giving the OK to one of the best developer teams to implement a highly popular custom ROM is a bad idea? Some people will never be happy.

It might be good news if said dev recieved a CDMA phone which is what the majority of people here would purchase. It really is irrevelent because he got a GSM phone, which really changes nothing.

Is a CDMA version of the phone even available yet?

That I don't know. Good question.

Official, no. Testing, yes. Samsung could easily give a CDMA developer the device, but it'll be discreet until the carrier announcement. This was a good move by Samsung, but don't forget about the Nexus One and EVO 4G. Classy move by Samsung, but nothing HTC haven't done before and more.
Sent from the EVO 3D with Sprint.
Samsung is the most aggressive smartphone manufacturer right now (giving phones to dev is just a brilliant PR move if nothing else).
This ain't no Epic. SG2 marks a new era for Samsung. I've had it for 2 weeks now (with my EVO) leading up to what would have been my pending EVO 3D purchase... which will likely morph into a Sprint Within purchase at this point.
Obviously 'user experience' is highly subjective...but it seems unlikely the 3D will match this rooted, stripped SG2 experience I'm enjoying now. Fiercely fast...brilliant multimedia performance...at least compared to the 4G..

Very subjective, but I fail to agree that the 3D rooted and optimized fails to match, especially when noone has even touched the phone. The specs are too good on it not to be one of the best phones of the year, and rooted and optimized is only icing on the cake.
How is the screen on the 3d compared to a super amoled. I tried reading specs but have no idea what they mean. I just wanna be able to actually see my phone when I'm outside.

Yeah, hope your right..really do. To me it comes down to the camera quality and video quality...cause other than that the only thing it has going thats appreciatively better than my rooted gingerbread 4G!...is pixel density and that its faster.
To me the dealbreaker is how much better are its multimedia capabilities...(2D..not 3D)...cause this things (GS2) is crystalclear brilliant!
I think it's funny that Samsung can't make good software for their own phones, so they want someone else to do it for them. And for basically nothing.

The cell phone gods have answered our prayers.......I want this!
It better not have a keyboard like the att version or im not even looking at it.
I'm a little torn about this. Do I jump on this or wait to see what the prime looks like?

Dont hold your breath waiting this year for a nexus prime; I wouldn't expect that until next year some time. I think the photon, iphone 4s, htc kingdom, hero 4g, and some random wp7 mango phones are all thats coming out this year. At least that's the only phones we will care about lol. I cant prove this information im just stating rumors and info that leaked on other websites; it could all be false lol.
I dont know why but i have a weird feeling the sprint sgs2 is going to have a keyboard like the first galaxy did and the real galaxy s 2 (samsung within) is something entirely different.
FINALLY!
After almost three years of android phones, I'm bored as hell. Yeah my current G2x is near instant in almost every UI interaction, over 5000 quadrant, etc etc but Android itself is just boring at this point. I'm hoping something hardware wise can amaze me and renew my interest in Android, and I'm thinking the SAMOLED+ screen might be it.

Dirk what are you rockin now? Thought you have the 3D. Are you looking to replace that already for the SG2?

I still have my 3D and yes im looking to sell it. Im currently in an htc arrive atm looking to purchase a better android device. I hate the 3D.
I wonder if this could be the 4.5" Hercules rumored for T-mobile, except for Sprint? Seeing as the dimensions are wider and taller than the international version. Could be just to make room for WiMax radios I guess.
So do you think we would be able to start using the custom ROMs that are already available for the international version when this one comes out?

Yeah It could be because of the wimax radio's or it could have a gay qwerty keyboard.

Its hard to tell so early isnt it? probably could port. Idk man im stuck in a situation right now to even start thinking about that so early. I wanna sell my evo 3D, I still have my upgrade which means my contract is already expired, should I buy this with my upgrade? I planned on leaving sprint to get the iphone 5 so i dont know what to do! ahhh
I have upgrades available on two of my lines that I may be using if something truly intriguing comes out. After the track record that Samsung and Sprint have when it comes to system updates, I am probably not going for the SG2, as pretty and awesome as it is. I will see what comes out there.
Yea well cyanogen is already supporting the sgs2 or they have a couple and are developing cm for it I dunno I don't really keep up on it but it should be fully tweak able unlike the 3d(for now). I love my evo 4g but I think it's a good time to up my cores. Plus, HTC isn't earning any points by not sticking to their promises like releasing source code whenever they damn well please and the whole bootloader fiasco. All that just makes those samoled screens look even better. Wish they weren't all plastic but thats apparently how you have to make a thin phone. Just looks cheap for such an expensive piece of hardware.

Yeah, but at the same time Google has confirmed ICS for a Q4 release. And prime is supposed to be Google's first ICS phone....which I'm realizing now that doesn't mean the first ICS phone...just google's first.

Yeah the 3D is not my cup of tea either. Play around with it at the store and wasn't impress by it at all. Love my 4G but absolutely hate my video cam on it. Very very poor in low light (every custom rom available) compare to my Daughter's Epic and this SG2 which seem to probably be alot better then the 3D or any HTC in that department. So this might be my next phone as well if nothing else releases by then.

Yeah dude thats one thing about that sgs2, that thing is fully plastic and super light weight. I really like the metal/heavy phones!!! I would be scared to keep that phone in my pocket because its so plastic thin.
