Why don't you simply buy the one that Kai made? it's only 7USD. That's about 4.5€...
The above mentioned link actually is the tool from the greedy kai.
But let me ask YOU a question: Why throw more money in his mouth for yet another simple tool? Ridiculous!
What makes Kai so greedy? If it is a tool you want, that he has spent time to make - what's wrong with charging you for it?
I assume our good friend pathalogo here is one of them pirates who thinks communism is a good idea as far as software is concerned. You know, well, the software is on the internet for free! Why should I pay for it? They asked for it with their exhorbitant prices! They don't give enough support for me to pay for it! I wasn't going to buy it anyway so I'm not damaging anyone!
Pathetic.
Ha ha! No doubt! It's not like this utility is even expensive...

Yeah, and it runs on a phone made by the greedy HTC on an OS made by greedy Microsoft. Instead the government should force people to make stuff for free. Slavery rocks!
Seriously, "greed" - as in the desire to make a profit is a great thing. When you make a profit in a free economy it means one thing -that you have produced something that others find valuable.
Nobody forces you to buy Kai's stuff. Those that find it useful enough to pay for it will. Those that don't won't. It is as simple as that. You have as little right to demand that somebody else writes software for you for free as you have the right to demand that somebody cleans your bathroom for free.

Well, It took me 5 minutes to figure out how the stylus events work. I'll spend another 5 minutes writing the app launcher so you guys can have it for free.
Though I still appreciate donations.
Oh come on lads it's not only about greed. 8$ for a program with such a functionality is a total rip off. I think kai is the greedy person on this edge.
ilemur - I think you are missing the point. Overpricing one's wares just means you don't understand your market. Technically, a greedy person would set the price at just the right amount to maximize the number of buyers in relation to the cost. In an effort to make as much money as possible - what you are calling "greed".
Technically, it is the people who think they deserve something for free (or less than the seller is willing to sell it for) that are greedy. They are the ones that want something for nothing. THAT is greedy.

Hi Koush, did you figure out how to control the action that the is executed when the stylus is taken out? I want to stop the display from turning on automatically when I take the stylus out.
Thanks a lot
For me its naturally when I put out the stylus that I want to do something with my Diamond.. so it would be also nice when I put it back I dont need to press the power button for screen to turn off...
Such app would be very nice!
Good to have choice indeed. For example for me, it is less than 50% of times I put the stylus back in, that I indeed want to "close" my Touch Pro. Usually I also need to do something with the finger or in my case (Pro) I need to type something.

In my case I use the diamond as my corporate mobile email device, and I never use the stylus for input, I use only the touch interface which is really good. Now in some long boring meetings, in the Touch days I used to pass the time playing with the stylus... but now when I do that with the Diamond, the screen turns on uselessly.
Bottom line: I'd like to know how to control the action done when putting out the stylus, and to be able to turn the action off.

Yep. Microsoft's 360 console was supposed to be unhackable as well. It didn't take long
we have found a way to hack any and all electronics in existance, the phone is rootable it might just need a newer mind to take a look. people get into their heads that things can only be done a certain way, there is always another way to do it. to name a few
ALL HTC PHONES
Sony PSP
PS3
Xbox 360
iPhone
mac computers
linux computers
windows computers
i don't think i need to go on, everything is hackable and can be messed with, sometimes it just takes a little more work and a different approach.

Or it could be that some people have that common knowledge? I knew it from buying a safe.
In any case, it really makes me wonder why phone companies bother with lock downs. Sure, some of the general public won't bother trying, but how much money is invested in locking us from root and then lost when a 16 year old kid cracks it?

Microshaft doesn't exactly have a strong track record when it comes to security....
Unlike Linux, which Android *IS*.
That being said, rooting ANY Android device is *easy*. Just not necessarily through the conventional back doors.
If you can read and write the chips, you can very easily make any modifications you like into the root filesystem, which can include adding an 'su' command. Only problem with this is that it generally requires a hardware approach, which is beyond the scope of the average user... who probably shouldn't be messing with root anyways.
I do, however, feel a bit of a letdown in this issue though. The unfortunate thing is that the carriers still are trying to call the shots (and generally succeeding due to popular ignorance). I would like to see this change -- there was once a time when you bought your land phone from the phone company and this is not so any more. Right now, most people are still buying their mobile phone from the phone company, even though it isn't necessary. I would definitely like to see more dealers for non-carrier-specific cell phones, and to have them show up in popular places. I would like to see these sold at places like walmart and radio shack so that you can just walk in and buy a phone with no strings attached.
There are a few reasons why I opted for an ADP1...
1) no contract,
2) no controls,
3) no carrier,
I bought it outright, its mine, and I can do what I like with it. People who are interested in the freedom of an unrestricted device should opt for this approach. ADP1 is STILL AVAILABLE, and there is not much about the new devices that improves on it.. sure I admit that having a little more ram would be nice, but the keyboard sure makes up for it. Yes, the majority of devices can be converted into an unrestricted device, but it just isn't right that you would have to hack it.

well at the last hacker convention windows vista was not hacked until many third-party apps were involved, linux was hacked long before that. i'm not saying that linux is unsecure because it is very secure in the since that you can't do much if you hack my computer. any real threat would have to have the root password and to get that you would need a keylogger

Dude, vista was hacked before it was even released.
And fyi; hacked = got root. Guessing at some user's password doesn't count. Hacking some particular server (i.e. Apache) doesn't count since it is run jailed (unless the admin is an idiot) and therefore won't let you get root. There have been a VERY FEW true root compromises for Linux, each and every one has been patched within hours (if not minutes) of it being identified, and due to the differing culture around linux, it is a matter of extreme pride to publicly identify security issues, i.e. if you legitimately hack linux, you are most likely going to take full credit for it using your REAL NAME and probably even provide a patch at the same time. Hack windoze though and you release under a fake name using a secure proxy in russia or china, otherwise MS will sue your a$$ until you die of starvation either through judgement or through legal expenses.
In Linux, you are a hero for identifying a security hole and helping to bring the whole thing closer to perfection.
In windoze, you are a criminal for pointing out the ineptitude of MS.

You could still say but put a disclosure that it might not be the final ROM.
To be fair, the release date is just around the corner so we'll get more answers soon.
There's supposed to be another announcement on the 4th Nov, not sure what other details they can give but still going ot be interesting nonetheless.

Show you some photos? What of? The outside of the case?
I DO have one - even posted a photo of the battery in another thread. I just installed the final ROM on the HTCPedia site - which has fixed the issue with Panoramic Photos.
Not played too much with the final ROM tho...
The reason I can't say too much is because it was a test ROM and I don't want to say anything negative about it as it doesnt give HTC fair chance to correct the issues.
What do you want to know about the HTC HD2? I'll try to answer it as best I can - bare in mind, I am new to Windows Mobile (Last time I used one, was back in the days of the PDAs ).
Speaking as the OP, I'm actually not very intererested in people who claim to have an HD2 "on test"; the main motivation behind this thread is to identify places (e.g. shops) where members of the general public can go to get HD2 demos of their own. In the early stages of a phone's release cycle, even if a given chain sells the phone, any given branch may well not have enough of them to be able to offer demonstrations. If we can find which places do, that'll be a good start.

I want to ask about screen material..
Is it made a tempered glass or flexy-plastic ??
May I humbly suggest that we don't attack every single person who comes to the forum and says he has the device, immediately declaring his/her words to be a hoax? Each and every one of us can make their own judgment, believe what we read or not, but this thread is asking for user experience, and I simply don't see the point in discouraging people right away. Also, demanding proof is kind of silly. If I had the device and read this thread, I'd most probably just leave - I certainly wouldn't bother to take pictures of myself with the phone or prove that I have it in any other way.
We're all anxious to get our hands on the beast, but let's be reasonable!

Tempered glass - well it feels like the iPhone. I think it may have some kinda special coating on it - smudges show up, but in the morning they are gone (Pilkinson make some glass like that, I believe).
Plus it is capacitive.
When you factory reset it, the setup wizard is very similar to the Hero - asks you to test the typing etc, choose mobile operator, connect to wi-fi then set up GMail, Exchange or another email account.
You can remove items from the Sense bar - so if you dont use Twitter etc, they can be removed.

Will do - but won't it conflict with the SENSE UI?
That's exactly why you are asked to try running it - to find out whether it conflicts with Manila.
I think you'll need to disable it to run SPB Shell properly. Previously it was done in Settings - Personal - Items - uncheck TouchFLO3D.

one question I do have is about the notification LED.
on previous WM phones (I'm thinking of my Orbit in particular) there were two LEDs. These were used for notification of charging, power, sms, bluetooth etc.
the original HD only had one, and it was very small and hard to see
how big and easy to see is the LED on the HD2?
...is there something to win for the best OT?

Yeah I always found it pretty weird that some people were convinced that the HD2 carried a resistive touch screen when HTC themselves had gone on record saying that it was capacitive. Just proves how ignorant some people can be.
Got to try out the phone at the local expo over the weekend in Helsinki and pre-ordered one today. Was very impressed by the performance and looks of the HD2.
what about making wp7 matching the hd2 buttons ?
how to map the hard buttons on hd2 using wp7
it is really hard to feel like iam using the wrong button
wp7 on hd2 can make sense if the buttons are doing what it meant to do
using android on hd2 it dosent it is not the hardware for it even if it works it is hard to accept the windows button on hd2 cause simply it is not windows at all it is different operating system
but with windows phone 7 it is ok
the cookers of wp7 tried to make it workable but not beautiful
what if hit on the screen to turn on the camera and not the call button
why not to use the call button to call !
how to map the hard buttons
WP7 keymap only has a certain set of buttons.. The HD2 buttons where mapped to what normal WP7 phone buttons would do.. Theres no call button.. you cant map the camera to the screen since its not a button and even if that was possible that would mean that the phone would be useless since whenever your touched the screen the camera would show up
WP7 is made for only 6 buttons... Volume Keys (2) Power, back, Search, Windows Key
Thats one of the suppose reasons why HD2 wasnt offically updated to WP7 besides the fact that it would cripple HD7 sales.. Microsoft wanted three buttons on front , Volume keys, Dedacated Camera key and power
You can remap them but your only limited by the WP7 default keys

Now you have 3 votes, and my vote is "I am ok with the ported buttons", here the answer... if you anter Market and hit HOME to SEARCH an app, how could you do this if the HD2 doesn't have a SEARCH button? Microsoft don't put a softkey in the Market for those who has not a WP7 device.
If you press CALL button to take a picture, how could you take a picture without a hardkey? I don't like this new app to the camera, I use Microsoft's.
Sorry man, the developers did what was necessary to make WP7 running on our devices, that's all.
We are extremely fortunate that we even have WP7 running on our HD2s, and it's unbelievably amazing that it runs as good as it does. WP7 is very new and has barely been cracked open by devs yet... the ins and outs are not known like they are with WinMo which has been hacked and modified for years. Know one knows enough to make custom versions of WP7.
So basicly, what you're asking is impossible right now.

It was one of the reasons sure but not the main reasons.
Another reason is that the HD2 only supports 2 point multitouch and not 4 point, I have noticed that in a few apps/games I have downloaded in the marketplace.
It is true that it's not fair what Microsoft did but if you were on their place what had you done?
They are dependend on their partners like Lg, Samsung, HTC
Everyone is worth pure gold for them.
I can't imagine that HTC spends money for modifing the wp7 for HD2 what loses value every day (I think now it worths only 280€) when they can do the same for a new device they can get 600€ for that.
Especially Htc made it wrong because the new HD7 isn't equiped with enough strong hardware to be really better then the HD2.
In youtube some guys show that the HD2 is even faster then the HD7 which isn't at all any argument for htc do sell the HD7.
But the problem is that HTC is the most known (at my opinion) smartphone seller for windows phones/devices if they do something bad, then the people loose already the trust on other wp7 phones.
But to be honest I am really interested why the Hd2 is faster then the HD7, does anyone know why?

Are you kidding? This is not a development thread at all. WP7 will always only be a port for the HD2. By the time that there are tools and enough knowledge available to make a WP7 ROM specially made for HD2 from scratch and not a port, no developers will still be interested in even working with the HD2.
We will always be using a port on the HD2.
If this was posted in ROM development, you will have a lot of people flaming and saying it needs to be moved to general.

Lol troll much? Everyone in this section of the forum loves the HD2.
You obviously don't understand the limitations we have. Your Arab, so why not
Pay a pro developer to make you a full version rather than a port . Which has all
The mods you want. After all fur someone to do this means making a lot of time after
Work to do a lot more work.
Your choice is simple.
1) Quit complaining
2) Pay someone to do it
3) Learn to do it yourself.

Yeah and that's the same reason you get allot of n00bs posting crap in wrong places and also the reason they are moved out of development.
This topic is not development, its a discussion.
The dev forum is for posting dev work, dev info, dev tuts etc.

While i agree with the 3 choices you provided, i think the rest of the message is a little OTT... might want to think about how your comments can easily be perceived to be racist...
My 2 cents on the buttons, is that the current implementation is the most logical of the choices, giving the best of options for actually using WP7.
If your really bugged by it then go by a sharpie and draw new pictures on the buttons...

i agree with you. But i happen to be half moroccan
which makes me half african/arab. Its an inside thing rather than anything else.
Also i dont know if its just me but i love the layout of the buttons. When i found out that my HD2 had a camera button i was rather happy tbh. Plus to answer calls all you do is swipe answer which itself looks pretty good.
thanks for the advice though i wrote this after a sleepless night
so no love for anyone after a bad night. But ill be more aware in future.
Danke

is there any way to disable "longpressed call button" for cam when is locked? i always find unlocked phone in my pokets!!
I dont understand why this kid is complaining all the time. The portation to our HD2 so far is excelent and we all can be happy that we can use this great device with the latest softwares available.
If some limitations are bothering you too much than you have to purchase a HD7.

You can disable this button in the "Pictures & Camera" section in your options menu.

Definitely not working for any company, and I have developed many Android ROMs and never had this problem. I've been here since 2005, for crying out loud. This is my first Samsung ROM, so I admit to being new there. I will even accept your "stupid idiot" comment, as I guess I deserve it. Although, I wonder why 150 people have downloaded it and only two or three people that I can see have been bricked. Something must connect those with issues. We need to find what it is.
Also, I am happy to pay for the de-bricking of those who are legitimately bricked i.e., followed instructions, have a receipt from JTAG, or whatever it is). Just PM me.
Steve
For reference, I am the only one who does anything for/with MobileTechVideos from a business stand point and two, I have successfully reverse engineered the world's (currently) only hard brick solution for this model as you will see above...

Thanks for the info. I am dying to find out what caused these users to have this problem, and no one else seems to have.

Moved To General
I have to apply the same rules for all. As the first post contains no development, it does not belong in said section

let us dry the tears and look forward to solve the problem.
steve, please pass the words came from reaction, it was chock as you seen. sorry for harming.
iam in middle east and not confidant to ship my device to unknown address because he mentioned in web page that he has solution, i mean JTAG and its not subject of who to pay steve.
supposedly that web site is true, and they didn't mention that they will change any part of device, what they will do to fix? the problem happened because we flashed non compatible files i think.
let us figure out the problem and try to find solution. right?

Absolutely. I understand. I have gotten into many messes since i started developing, and know that panic. I just need to know everything you.and the other user who had this problem can tell e about your device so i can find out what the common denominator is. So, confirm it is the wifi and 3g version you are using, and what build you are coming from, if you would. Are you using a sim card? Have you tried pressing power and volume up for a while? Thanks. Also, does your tablet feel hot at all?

Well I used yours as a base, just chopped the usual crap out, resigned, flashed, everything seemed OK. Initiated reboot, bam, doesn't turn on.
Charged all night, tab is hot along left edge, so I'm guessing still charging. 8600.

let us exchange the ideas
first we need to get the device powered so maybe remove and return battery could do something?? but how?
any external way to use it throw usb slot while charging ?
I would try pulling the battery but have no idea how to get the case off.
Steve, just wondering out loud whether those who have the hard-brick issue be because there are on pre-production hardware, so they have a slightly different hardware SKU. Hence your ROM does not work for them.

That seems to be the case for one of them. I am not positive about the others. I am having a hard time getting people to just tell me what build they were using prior to the flash...There seem to be 3 people who have had this porblem, and there must be something linking them, although it may be something random. Need to figure it out.

I came from P6800ZSKL2. Dont know if it was from the very first production line, but judging by the quality (i bought three, all with crap displays) they probably were.
Also, i believe the device is on and trying to unpack something because it is indeed warm.
This of course means that there may be hope of getting into download or recovery yet... i will drain it for 34 hours and then attempt to turn it back on.

Uh, not sure about the quotes, but yes, I am about to try something that might answer the question of why some bricked. If the answer is affirmative, however, the only solution likely is JTAG...

BTW, his "suggestion" was "incorrect." Still not sure what's up. Will keep posted, and like I said, I'll work something out with JTAG for those who got bricked yesterday and posted about in in the original thread before I responded.

For the record hard bricks on the Exynos 4210 will occur generally in one of 3 ways:
1) Mis-matched boot.bin and sbl.bin
2) Incompatible boot.bin and sbl.bin combo
3) Invalid PIT file flash from an earlier generation TAB or Galaxy S device
Anything else causing a black screen is simply hardware failure.
