I still have an "Open Ticket" for a replacement EVO, Sprint says I can exchange it at a corporate store and gave me the numbers for a few local stores. The Sprint tech also reported that the stores should be getting shipments next Monday, all will be updated to FroYo 2.2 from the factory.
I called 3 corporate stores hoping they would have an EVO with 2.1, but alas, none to be found regardless of software version.
that is no good, wonder if there is any way...

I should be getting my replacement sometime this week. (Hopefully) I'm praying I get lucky as well
im getting my replacement this evening. Will update this thread.
This affects my decision on getting an Epic. I wanted to eventually replace my EVO towards the end of its Sprint warranty (light leakage, etc) so I could get a newer one, but I don't want to be slapped with more security that may or may not be broken in the near future.
It would only make sense that the newer phones comes with their latest update. Why would they want to make the customer download a large file when they can pre-load it from the factory.
It's not the best choice for many of us who are waiting for a replacement handset that have enjoyed being rooted. I am one of them as well. I have faith in the developers that they will be able to give the OEM Froyo 2.2 handsets root access in the near future.
I might not like not having NAND root but in my Droid X just having the ability to install superuser is a nice feature. I can live with what that can provide for now.
Only time will tell.
relax, I hear unrevoked is close on root for the 2.2 OTA

Edit, I'm wrong. The release is for rooted devices.
DAMN IT!
Awesome... just picked mine up. No OTA.

No.. what they have is not for OTA 2.2. There's a thread about it somewhere and they commented in there that they really hadnt done anything towards rooting 2.2 OTA.
Funny enough I just recieved my replacement phone yesterday, and it came with the 1.47..update, but it is 2.1...hooray, still can root

I spoke to a representative at Bell, she said that Froyo will be rolling out December 6th through Kies. Don't know if this is posted anywhere else, just thought I'd let you eager Bell users know.
Thanks for the heads up ..if this is true let the countdown begin....
If our Kies doesnt work, we are pretty much screwed for the official bell update >_<
Never trust a Bell agent. I have an audio recording of an other agent which is 100% sure that the update will be out in November. In August, they told me it would be september.
Don't hold your breath on that one. Canada got the vibrant seemingly last. And the rollout for Froyo isn't complete in the other countries that got the I9000 before we did. Id' best guess the soonest isn't until sometime in the first quarter of the new year.
I'm thinking the failure rate after the update is gonna be huge. And Corporate wants their bonuses for a good Christmas season in terms of sales. That's why I'm saying Feb '11, after the Christmas rush & the January warehouse clearance sales.

If what you are saying is true...there is going to be some huge backlash. Especially after the post on facebook on the Samsung page which mentioned Dec 15th.

First, this is pure speculation, even more considering the post made by samsung.
First, the Froyo release is not following the same path as the release of the phone itself (having to wait after the others...) second, pre-release are already available trough test mode in kies, wich means the testing is ongoing pretty good as of now.
As for the bonuses part, in a big corporation like bell, their already given! Bell won't wait on that to give/not give bonus.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... Someone decided to crank up the old rumor mill again.
I bought my phone the day it came out on Aug 6th and have been weeks and sometimes only days away from 2.2 the whole time....

SD card failure is higher for the I9000M than the rest of the international members of this site. I know the polling is unscientific, but it does seem to indicate there may be a problem with releasing Froyo. I still stand on not holding my breath for the 15th.
Bell and Kies
You need to be careful with Bell. On Aug. 19, I got my galaxy and installed kies, as they told me to. I hit the 3 hour window when Samsung put out the corrupted update (according to the Samsung Rep). It trashed my bios. I called Bell and they said, it was my problem because it wasn't their software and they don't recommend anyone use it. When I pointed out I had an internal Bell memo instructing the retailors to tell customers to install it, and how to do it,(I still have it) I was told that was impossible, it wasn't their problem and to call Samsung. Then they hung up.
Needless to say I have not received any help from Samsung either, and the regional Rep won't answer my emails anymore.

Samsung Mobile already said Mid-December on their Facebook page.
Yeah, no dice here... Hopefully on the 15th, its a bit ridiculous really...

you had to hack your vibrant to get it on
that may have caused a problem. I would hope that bell will develop it to work on thier phone without the need to fool the phone and will have had ample testing to make sure it works. at least if it does not work, by putting the new OS using normal means, it will be up to \Bell to fix it.
sorry to hear you had so much trouble
Which companies are not jokes these days!
Why hasn't someone started a cell company who treats their customers properly.....
If you can offer them great service, prices and plans, the company would have it made!
no one would switch, they would tell their friends which would bring more business.
Corporations are a joke these days!!!
All they care about is your money. All people care about is MONEY!
We (the people) need to make choices "together" to be able to control the direction of these corporations.
if we started a movement here in Vancouver, with 1 million strong, we could make change happen.

well.. kinda thought I would be right about this....
Best Buy... ATT Phone reps... Your local Radioshack guy...
KNOW JACK **** ABOUT ANY RELEASE DATES FOR UPDATES.
You can't even trust twitter updates from the companies either. You have three options..
1. Use QDL tool to go to Froyo now.
2. Sit and wait it out until it is released
3. Get another device that has froyo or later.
The worst part about streak owners not updating via QDL is that the software is NOT BETA... they are fully tested OEM unlocked roms!
When i was with the captivate, the cookers were hacking pieces together from 4-5 different froyo roms from different phones.. and it was still not as stable as the streak.

P. S. - Update on the update (2/2) - An AT&T rep was in the Best Buy store that I just visited. Another BB employee confirmed
yesterday (2/1) as the day the rollout started. Just then an AT&T rep walked into the store and the BB employee asked him "what's the story on the update for the Streak"? The AT&T rep verified that it was supposed to have started on 2/1 and he has not heard anything to the contrary.
Froyo Update not released on Feb 1 as I reported!
Crap!!! I spoke to Dell yesterday and they said the announcement about the Froyo update for
Feb 1 were wrong. They are still working on it!

When I had my Streak warrantied out, (back in late november) they told me there was an update coming, I replied "I know there is, I'm already running froyo" lol, the rep didn't seem to care.
So last wednesday I decided to make my voice heard and I wrote VZW an angry email. I am not going to type out the whole thing but basically it said that i am tired of their horrible customer service and horrible customer support. I also went on to state that everytimeI ask a rep either on the phone or in the store as to when we are going to get Froyo the answer with out fail is always very soon or in a couple of weeks.
I recieved a call on Friday afternoon. I missed the call but the rep left a Voice mail. It states and I quote " Hey Joshua, My name is Tammy and I am with Verizon Wireless's internet response team. I recieved your email about your concern for the Samsung Fascinate. So some good news is that we did get approval for the 2.2 froyo to be updated. So it is going to be updated very soon, escentially probably within the next 2 weeks, but I mean it is just waiting for google to push it through. So whenever google is ready to send it over we will be sending it out to our customers. So if you have any questions feel free to contact us at 1-800-922-0204. Have a good Day Bye"
I did call back immediately and spoke to a normal customer service Rep who had no idea what was going on with the update. He kept basically putting the blame on Google and Samsung. He asked me if I had called them to see why we have not got the update yet. I told him know it is Verizon's responsibilty, as that is who I pay my money to every month. By the end of the call there was nothing really resolved with that rep, with the exception of him asking if I would consider a replcaememnt to a different phone that has Froyo and he suggested the Droid X ( which he said was a step down ) or the Thunderbolt . Which i of course said i would be interested in the thunderbolt. I am also supposed to get a call back today from the Rep who answered my email.
So I guess as usual take it with a grain of salt. I will keep you guys updated with what happens with this.
I would have asked how it's Google's fault when they didn't manufacture the phone, or send it out for a manufacturing contract to be made for them (ie Nexus device). After that, I would ask how it is Samsung's fault when they just released the source code for the Froyo update last week, showing that Samsung has finished their part of the upgrade.
It's funny because I called last week following up on an email I sent 2 weeks ago and I'm still getting the run around. They offerred me a droid x or droid 2 but i don't want to settle at this point if there are new phones available. I'm now waiting for a supervisor to call me back.

I did ask why it is Google and Samsung's Fault. The rep responded with the make the os and build the harware we just sell the phone. I said it is Verizons responsibility to make sure all of their phones are up to date as possible. I also said that if it is Google or Sammy's fault, then why is it that almost every other galaxy released has got the update? The rep replied with saying that I was wrong and that only a few galaxys have gotten the update.

To be honest, asthetically I like the fascinate but not having froyo after waiting all this time has turned me off. I've used some rom's available on the forums but I feel like I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get an update that should have been out months ago.
thats how i ended up with my fascinate. my dad got tired of not having froyo, so he gave the option for me to inherit his fascinate or keep my OG droid.
As a VZW Tech rep. The care reps know less than me and we have absolutely no resources/explanation on why some devices get updates and some don't.
The problem is when you have 3 huge companies and their crack legal departments putting conditions on everything. Companies can't agree to play golf together without a 300 page legal agreement.

It's hard to get away from a damn good looking slim phone that has an amazing screen isn't it?
Alright so Update
I Spoke to VZW last night, and after alot of "venting" on my end they were willing to get me a new phone......... The Thunderbolt!
The only catch is that I had to renew my contract for 2 years, which is okay because I was 4 months into this one. Once I get I will either give the phone to a family member for super cheap or just sell it and recoop the cost.
The rep who I spoke with was not willing/able to do anything for me. I just asked for a supervisor, and miraculously the rep came back after a short hold time and said the supervisor is in a good mood so they will let you upgrade as long as you reup your 2 year. So i guess long story short just start escalating the call if you get any push back
I just don't understand giving up on such a great device because of a lack of an update. I understand the principle of a company supporting it's hardware, be it Samsung or Verizon, but I still think it is silly to go to all this trouble just on principle. What does the Thunderbolt have that the Fascinate doesn't (besides the obvious, 2.2 and 4G)? To each his own, I guess.

Well look at it this way I got a new phone for a great price as well as I am still able to keep my Fascinate or sell it. When/if Froyo ever comes out and I still have the Phone I can always switch back to it.
I want to make it clear I love my Fascinate, if for nothing else the screen is amazing. I have never really had any issues with it, except for the usual gps taking a while to connect, and it freezing which attribute to sftware not hardware.
So many people talking about getting a new Evo 4G from other places, and having them already updated to 2.3.
You are NOT out of luck!! Thought I'd post this for an FYI.
Best Buy seems to be your best shot at a new Evo 4G still on 2.2 Stock. I've gone through 4 now from them (had hardware issues on 2) and all have come out of the box with 2.2.
I asked the CSM helping me to not do anything to the phones...I'd prefer to power em on. Got home, cancelled update...Stock 2.2 ready for Root / Flashin.
If you're in the market for a new Evo 4G...check Best Buy first. With a little polite direction, you should have the same experience.
The Tulsa OK store I frequent had at least 20 or so left in stock...

I just bought one from my local best buy and it was 2.3.3 out of box. It was the last one the store will have also. You are very lucky
Wish I could take mine up there, but I just got one from Sprint this week that they sent me to replace my Epic. Ah well I guess I will have to wait like everyone else for root.
I work for Best Buy and can honestly if anyone gets a 2.2 in DFW, consider yourself lucky. My refurb through the Black Tie Protection came with 2.3.3.
I can say however that my battery is absolutely amazing.
A friend of mine has bought two from bestbuy. First one returned due to software issue and the newest going back to extreme light bleed. Both on 3.70 software. You can get lucky at some bestbuys. I think the more rural ones may have left over stock that has been sitting for a while. Two in a row that are not updated are pretty good odds.
I got an Evo 4G a week ago from BB, brand new out of the box. Had 2.3.3 already installed. I had been thinking of going back and trying to find one with 2.2 and claiming hardware/software issues on one until I find one. This gives me hope.
Do I have to have purchased my evo at best buy to take my evo there for a replacement?

I got 2 Evos at the start of this month, and I didnt know about the 2.3.3 thing so in short both of them, one white and one black were 2.2 and me being a geek updated without researching.
Last friday had to go back with mine because of a small hairline crack the body had around the volume down and of course they said besides that the phone is working and I was ready to fight, but before I even started talking he said, "but you still on your 30 days exchange so if you want to just change it, i can do that" and so I did and this also was 2.2, I said "just activate it, I don't want to update it, cuz mine ran sluggier than my wifes and thats the only difference, she didnt get the update and i did" He was like, ok that makes sense. check it and see if that was your problem...
On my local store they didn't seem to have a shortage or anything, I saw him pulling it out of a nice stock of EVO's.
Same here in NY. My buddy and I got Evos in a local BB Mobile and they both had 2.2 on it. The Rep who was taking care of me almost updated the phones until the manager and I both told her not too. The manager is a personal friend of mine whom I do rooting of devices for. ;-)
I got my Evo about a month ago with 2.2 installed. At the time I was totally unaware that updating would lock me out. Good thing I didn't

Hey everyone!
I'm from over on the HTC Hero forums and looking for an upgrade in the near future. I'm currently on C Spire and am not particularly interested in the iPhone 4s or Galaxy Showcase, so this leaves the Milestone X as the main contender for me. Just a few questions come to mind:
1. I noticed there was a recent OTA Gingerbread release, and there may be an issue getting root with it. Is this still a problem or did the issue get resolved?
2. Probably the most important: Would you really recommend the phone as an upgrade or consider something on another carrier with all the new dual core and likely soon to be quad core phones? My main selling point is that the Milestone X is currently free with a 2 year agreement and I wouldn't have to switch carriers.
My only other consideration is to go with the Amaze 4G on T-Mobile (ATT is too expensive and has horrendous customer service, Verizon is too expensive, and Sprint has pretty lousy coverage in MS). The Amaze is also the only phone in their current lineup besides the GS2 which supports their 42+ mbps band.
Anyways, thanks for the read and I hope to hear from you guys soon.
Milestone X is a great phone, you are wise to avoid the showcase.
to answer your questions:
1. Yes there is an update, yes it can be rooted very easily. DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
2. well i already answered that one... The milestone x is hands down the best phone at cspire currently.
Thanks for the reply! I just may consider picking up one soon. How's the battery life on it with CM7/Liberty?
i haven't loaded a new rom so i can't say how the battery life is on those roms, but i can tell you that the stock 2.3.5 is very smooth, snappy and the battery life is superior to my old hero. (just got my milestoneX 2 weeks ago, figures that they would make them free now).
EDIT: correction, 2.3.5 is not what comes preloaded. but there is an OTA update ready for download once you get it. only peice of advice i can give you if you want the ota is don't install cwm before you install the OTA.
Awesome! I just picked mine up yesterday and after the ota, I'm really pleased with performance and battery life. I'll likely root it soon to do away with the junk preinstalled applications.

I'm having the same issue with my 2nd Milestone X that I just picked up. I contacted support, and they suggested to bring it into a store to install it there. If updating the phone to 2.3 doesn't fix its wifi problems, though, I'll likely be switching it out for another one.
My dad picked up another Milestone today for himself and is having the same issue with the update. The customer service person I spoke to last night told me that it's likely because the OTA update is being released in a "staggered fashion" to "prevent serve overload." I get the concept, but the update has been out for a month now, and nobody else was having any problem getting it until recently, from what I can tell.
If you have any luck getting them to do the upgrade in the store, let me know. The person I spoke to said they charge $15 to do an upgrade in-store, though, which I refuse to pay just because their normal upgrade method is broken.

I went into the store and informed them that the phone wasn't receiving the update, they swapped mine with one that had 2.3 preinstalled, no hassle and no restocking fee. I would definitely contest the fee as much as possible, especially when they aren't providing any other way to officially update the phone other than over the air.

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately I won't be needing it, as the OTA update finally worked for me a couple of hours ago. Now I just have to reroot and I'm good to go!

I had the same issue. Got the Milestone X in September when it was still Cellular South. Shortly after they switched to CSpire Wireless. Here comes December and I do not have the OTA update still. Kept checking and checking, not OTA and no option through CSpire to just manually download it to PC to update myself. So tried root and DL'ing the file mentioned and renaming update.zip and install via Bootstraper, still a no go. After a few factory resets, BOOM, "you have an update available" and just my luck, will download but not install properly w/ bootstrapper interfering. Ok, remove bootstrap....nope, no work. Said screw it, went to CSpire hoping to just get another one, guy behind counter instantly pulled up bootstrapper and said, If you think you can fix it, try, or else you'll have to buy another one, told him damn straight I'll fix it myself, grabbed my phone and left. Got home, followed SBF guide, downloaded OTA and now I'm a happy camper.
