I've just had my fifth N1 wake-up coma in about 6 days. I'm calling HTC tomorrow for a replacement, just wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this happen to them. I put the N1 to sleep, either by tapping the power button or by letting the screen time out, and when I hit the power button to wake it up, nothing. I know its still on because the trackball still flashes periodically, telling be to check mail. The only way to get it back is to pull the battery. My phone is stock, locked bootloader. I've wiped it a few times, even wiped from the boot menu, no effect.
Btw, if anyone is concerned about getting refurbs with this, I spoke with an HTC rep today about it, she said the reps have been told that every replacement phone going out is brand new, this early in the phones life, there aren't many refurbs to be had. She pretty much guaranteed a new unit, but the reps could have been told to lie through the teeth about it. Either way, anything I get less than perfect goes right back until they get it right.
This is the first I've heard of this, but while it sounds like a one-off problem, that's definitely an aggravating issue. Try Volume Down + Trackball + Power for forcing reboots though.
Edit: Regarding refurbs, I've heard of a few being received so far, but I also heard that a surplus of some 120,000 unsold working units have just been alotted in the US for distribution by HTC.
I have the exact same coma issue described here. I have already sent mine back to HTC's service center, and apparently, they are going to do a one for one swap for me.
The HTC call center told me to expect the phone either tomorrow or the day after. I don't know whether it will be a brand new unit or refurbished one. But I think it will be the latter since I did not send in my original packaging and accessories, save for the battery and back cover.
This is definitely not a one off issue. I've had the same thing happen to me with my Motorola's DROID. When I click the power/wake button the 4 touch sensitive buttons light up but the screen does not come on. The only solution is to pull the battery. I definitely think this is an Android OS issue. And FYI, I'm on 2.0.1.
this is an android os problem I have had this problem for 6 months with my g1

Since you are having it happen to a Driod (is 2.0.1 out for that yet?) it tends to suggest this is a software issue, most likely some app that all 3 of you have installed. I do not have this problem but might I suggest that those affected list what they have installed?
If it is a software issue getting the hardware replaced won't make a difference.
Had this happen to me almost everyday when I bought the phone, after I rooted, wiped, and loaded one of the custom roms everything was fine(so far). Haven't had a coma problem since and it's been almost a week. Not saying anybody should root but just my experience.
If this issue is not hardware related, then I tend to believe that it is OS related than application related.
The reason is simple: I first encountered this issue on the very first day I got my phone, while I was charging it and have not installed any external applications yet.
I have had this happen to me on stock G1, stock myTouch AND stock N1. Seems like a software issue to me. It's very, very rare and really not that big of a deal. Nothing is perfect. It's still the best phone on the market today.
I've had it after I wiped my phone a couple of days ago, went a day with no other apps installed to test it out. :/ Happened twice within six hours yesterday, 5 times over 7 days. I could live with the occasional hiccup, but that's a bit extensive.
@Chrisoyh, spoke with two different reps at HTC today, both swore up and down that new units are being sent as replacements, not refurbs. One made the statement after I let him know I had the phone recorder app running. Of course, how can you really prove what's a new phone and what's a refurb anyway.
With all of the repeated "Stuck at the stick together screen", "wont turn on" comments and threads I have seen. I am wondering if it is even worth buying another one of these phones. Just curious and no this will not help my decision, but I am curious of how long have some of you had your HD2's? Is there anybody that still have their HD2 since launch?
Had mine since March 2010, bought it from someone who got it at launch. Far better today than it was a year ago running an N1 build!
Have never had to send it for repair or anything like that. (Touch wood)

I've had my phone for about a year, traded my iPhone 3G to some dude for it, ran WinMo stock till the day HSPL for the tmous version came out, then I was on NRG ROM. Been flashing **** all the time since with zero issues.
Those "won't turn on" comments are made by people who are uninformed or careless. It says about a thousand times "don't flash a .51 radio or 2.04.xx etc..." and yet someone inevitably does and then wonders why his phone is bricked. I wouldn't worry man this phone is a beast when treated right.
Thanks for the comments, I lied, the replies so far have made me reconsider buying another lol...
I have owned my HD2 for 8 months now and it is the best phone I have ever had. Heck I have been trying out every phone my friends have and that are usable display models in yhe stores and I have found none that is as capable and functional as the HD2. I know a lot of that has to do with the Windows Mobile OS. But even when I run Andriod on my HD2 it still runs better than any native Andriod phone I have had hands in experience with.
I did send my original HD2 in for exchange cause it got to where I had to press the reset button up to ten times everytime I turned the phone off or tried to do a soft reset via a soft reset app. Cause it would hang on the Windows splash screen at boot that many times before finally booting all the way into Windows. Still not quit sure if it was the phone are me but my replacement has given me no problems, but I have a lot better understanding of how to use Win Mo now too.
Still the HD2 is a top notch phone and in my oppinion will be so for a long time. I plan to use mine until it completely dies, and then if I can find replacement parts still I am going to fix it lol.
Bought mine at launch and left it sitting around until HSPL was available then I finally started playing around I loved it so much I bought a second one from a friend who turned out not to like it. Ironically my newer HD2 that I got from my friend lost the speaker after a few months of use and my original one which was still under warranty has never had one problem since I bought it. I started to get a little bit bored with my phone for a while there but once MAGLDR came out I fell in love with it once again. I've owned my fair share of phones but my HD2 will always have a special place in my heart
Right on, I agree. I seen an article somewhere, might of been on XDA, but they were saying how much of a power house in regards to modding, the HD2 was. Being able to flash Android, WINMO 7, custom WINMO 6.5 Roms, Linux-Ubuntu makes this thing a modders dream lol....Guess I'll get back on the band wagon.
have had mine since november 2010. was previously using a touch pro 2 but was itching to get a hd2. good thing my tp2 got stolen and insurance replaced it with my choice hd2 (mind you i was offered a mozart or a desire). no regrets whatsoever and i see myself using this phone for quite a long time.
Had mine since launch, not one single issue...(apart from ones I caused)
No touchscreen fails.
No sticking at bootscreen.
No overheating.
Nothing. Just pure joy
If T-Mobile still had stock of these beauty's I'd use my upgrade to get another one.
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Had mine for a year now, done all sorts of mods to it when it was only running WinMo,only recently flashed a new radio and hspl so I could start playing with android.
Not had any issues, this thing rocks....

Best phone to date I have ever owned. Never had a problem. Running android. Would buy another in a heartbeat.
Bought my HD2 3 days before the US launch and haven't had a single problem with it. Best phone arounds hands down!

Thumbs Up to that
Bought my HD2 as sn as it was launched here over an year ago.
Its still feeling fresh thanks to the amazing customizations options via XDA...
Now waiting for GB-Sense stable port...after that for IC...HD2 is a model that stand up to anything thrown at it...the most customizable mobile in the world
I have mine for a year now and have bad problem with overheating... gettin new one from insurance...
Just bought another, going to pick it up today!!!!! Loved my Samsung Vibrant, sold it to my sister and bought a HD7 and HD2, sold the HD7 yesterday lol
Almost a Year with No Problems
I have had my HD2 for almost a year. I still have the original stock ROM (2.13.531) and radio (2.10.50.26). I didn't even do the official upgrade that came out a few months ago. I did move the phone to AT&T (minor speed drop for data), and add Co0kies' Home Tab, but that's about it. I have had no problems I couldn't fix. I did discover that if you do not put the battery in exactly right, the phone won't start. The battery looks like it's seated, but there is small gap. I have had only a handful of lockups, due to applications. I have not had to use my backup. Even with Edge only on AT&T, I enjoy my HD2.
I am just curious if anybody else can feel my pain. I woke up early on launch day to be 9 in line of 13 for my evo. Loved it since day one. Rooted a few eeks later due to the awesome devs and tutorials on this site. That thing was a tank. The only thing it didnt like was being over 1.19GHz. It ran every rom, every kernel with never so much as a flinch. But the only downside was the broken HDMI port. At the time i didnt care because it was useless. But the shinzul released their app and i had to get it fixed. But no they didnt fix it they had to replace it. Damn. So i unrooted turn it in and got a brand new evo. I turned in my dear sweet launch day evo for a red headed step child. Such a finicky lil *****. nothing over 1.15 please. or and only certain kernels work. Solid roms on my other phone rebooted randomly on this one. Damn you cost of repair vs cost of new phone principal. Well i just had to vent sitting here with my phone finally comfortable and running quite smoothly after weeks of training.

I always demand a new device, non-refurbished.
It's not to be an asshole, it's because I've had a 100% failure yet [generally within a month] of every replacement refurbished device I've received.

I wished they just fixed the port on my phone. couldnt take more than a half hour with the good tech and proper parts.
After a broken usb on her original phone my wife had to get a refurb. They refused to give her a new. Went through 2 refurbs for white blotches on screen (obviously no quality control) and the last one acted weird. Would work fine except locked up using our airave for data(not voice). After many hrs on phone and arguing they still would not give her a new phone--just a refurb. I took matters into my own hands and rooted and flashed some new software and it appears to be ok now. So probably was a bad flash from the support center.
My impression: the refurbs are not really brought back to factory standard either hardware or software. Sprint has awful quality control and poor after purchase support. The question is if the others companies are any better.

ive asked and asked and asked ... even demanded a NEW evo never get one
gotta have the screen replaced on the one i have now
My roommate is on her 5th HTC Droid Eris and they have all been just refurbs. They usually last 5 weeks. Either the trackball fails, the power port stops working, or the mic gives out. She's not gentle with the phone, but she's no worse than I am with the Evo. Never had a problem with mine (knocks on wood) I'm very happy with my beast.
The ideas of all these refurbs just sucks. Policy used to be 3 bad refurbs and you could get a new device. But with all the handcuffs put on AS reps, it seems pretty hard to get.
After issues with my TP they sent me a brand new TP2. The guy literally gave it to me. My account was billed $599 and credited back $599, plus I got to keep my original TP. Which I later got exchanged for a refurb TP2. Seems those days are gonzo.

This thread is not very encouraging, as I am now waiting for the delivery of my "refurbed" evo from Sprint... Crossing my fingers on this, but I have a feeling its going to be messed up just like my current one (which overheats and boot loops into oblivion.)
New ones aren't any better. Mine has a ****ty power, and volume buttons. The power button you need fingernails to push (which I don't have). Sometimes the volume up and/or down will stick causing the phone to turn all the way up or all the way down. I love HTC but their quality control sucks. This phone I have now wouldn't have even made it as a test phone for Apple.
Before i rooted it the phone was fine. It has more to do with rooting and the aftermath. Launch day evo flawless on the software after root, new evo finicky about the certain settings and roms
Mine runs like crap when I use a kernel with more havs, it seems to like no havs kernels the best.
Before I start, let me say that I am happy owner of GTab 10.1 running task650 & Phantom's "In Paris v2" ROM. Now on to my story.
Waiting for the release of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was something I anxiously did the moment it was announced. Once released, I was in love with my first tablet and spent the majority of my time on it. The lack of apps didn't bother me because this seemed perfect in every aspect. The only thing missing was an Otterbox case (instead of waiting, I got something similar with the Gumdrop Drop Series). Everything was fine until a week later, when I encountered the "Sleep of Death".
Relatively new to XDA and hacking, I had no idea what to do with the recovery and downloading screens that I could access occasionally thru hard button combos. So what I did was send it in for service to Samsung (I had yet to root or do anything illegal). I sent it 8/1/11 before I went on a cruise with the wife. After getting back, I expected to have my GTab waiting for me. Was it there: no. I promptly called Samsung, and found out it was notation the service center. After some complaining, I found that they had received it the same day. After being reassured that it would be there within the week, I relaxed that week. Still no sign TWO weeks after the call.
Many calls had led to nothing, until I was directed to Executive Customer Relations. They told me that my motherboard had crashed and the one put in as a replacement had ALSO crashed. I asked for an new exchange and was guaranteed a new one. Two weeks later, I received a refurbished GTab 10.1 with the bottom screws missing and screen misaligned. A call back to ECR had me sending it back, but it took another two weeks of calls to finally get a new one.
It has finally arrived and I don't think I could have waited any longer. The moment I got my hands on it, it was rooted and ROM'ed with the "In Paris v2" and Pershoot's kernel. I couldn't be happier. Just thought you would all want to hear about the story of my piece of coal slowly formed into a diamond.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1 now "In Paris"
Just to clarify: rooting your tablet is not "illegal," nor is putting a custom ROM on it. Voiding your warranty is not the same as breaking the law.
Glad you're finally up and going. I strongly suggest upgrading to Paris v4 before you get too much further, though. It's much faster and has the full-screen power menu tweak (but you'll need to install pershoot yourself).
Damn, considering the number of reports describing people having issues with their GTab 10.1 I either am very lucky to not having any, or people are complaining too much. No sleep of deaths, no newton rings, no battery drainage, no lags for me. No nothing.
*knocks on wood*
My first table had the oil slick so i took it back to best buy and i haven't had a problem since.

I like the tab but until I have rooted and modded it with Overcome mod I was not entirely happy with its performance. It is a great tablet but some of Samsung software sucks a bit.
I definitely needed to modify my GTab 10.1 after seeing the pre- and post-Touchwiz changes. The update seemed to add a bunch of redundant apps like multiple video, book, and music apps. One I switched to task650 and Phantom's "In Paris" ROM, I knew I would never be going back to stock. Now on v4 of their ROM and loving the SPEED
Used this i9000 since December 2010 so my contract is almost up, ends on the 18th. Moving on to Galaxy S III.
It was REALLY worth it flashing this phone with people's ROMs, there were so many good ones and tons of helpful support, even helping me with my stupid question back then, but now I know what to do because of everyone here. I was so scared first time flashing the JVK firmware since there was some sort of very glitched up screen and thought everything went wrong but turned out fine, bad firmware though (Wasn't customed).
Will miss this thread a lot. I might be able to come back here on rare occasions to see if there is updates to install new ROMs since I will be giving my phone to my mum.
Thanks a lot guys for the support and the fantastic ROMs being released.
I bought mine in the summer of 2010, and it was my first smart phone ever. It was beautiful, and Samsung was having an update spree during that time. New updates pushed to kies almost weekly. The downside was that the updates back then wiped my phone every single time, so I took the leap of faith and rooted my phone in order to use titanium backup (I am using using my text file license!) Best decision I have ever made regarding smartphone
My first time flashing a ROM was scary as hell. The flash failed half way through, and I was too scared to unplug it. I thought I had bricked my phone just two months after buying it. At that time there was no jig, and people weren't sure what would happen if you bring a bricked phone back to Samsung. Luckily my phone pulled through, and I have been happily flashing ever since.
Tis phone is getting old now, and I will be replacing it with a nexus in the coming months, but it will always have a special place in my heart.
