I have a situation where my phone has more or less dropped a call and when it does the bottom of the keypad is not visible. And the bad part is that nothing short of a reboot will bring it back. To compound the issue it has also locked up the phone of the person I was speaking to at the time. I could not actually hang up on my end which kept their device on the call until such time as I rebooted my phone.
Anyone had this happen?

Hi all,
I keep noticing that when my phone rings....most of the time, something is answering the call
It usually happens on the process of taking the phone out of the pouch
i take it out from the sides, never touching the screen but when I have it in my hand, the call has been answered for a few seconds
anyone know how to prevent this? Never happened in any of my windows phones
Is there any chance that it is checked the auto answer option in the phone settings on tha last-right tab (after xx rings.....) ???
Got the same issue with mine; this drive me crazy as I am often saying bull**** while taking my phone out of its case... It happend only when I take it out of its case, but as it is always in its case it may not be the right explanation.
The autoanswer is def not checked
I just re-installed the firmware and left it as if it... same issue
its almost certainly linked to the case in some way that is touching the answer button on screen (i dont think its the physical button itself)
Was there ever a solutions for this?
I tried another case, with a different the magnet at the different place and the issue seems to be gone. But, sadly I get other issue; still because of the magnet I guess. Just try to avoid magnet
hhmmmm is there a way to diable the answer button when a call is coming in, until I hit power or something?
how do i stop this? i'd like the phone to automatically lock or something to prevent this from happening. it appears that first, the screen with all of your apps opens, then my cheek or whatever hits a program. any ideas? thanks
Does this happen when you make a call, or when a call comes in?
If you phone is locked and you get an incoming call, after you answer it remains locked except for the calling options (i.e end call, flash, etc.) but I'm not too sure if you dial out though but ive never had this problem...
this happenes to me too. my cheek will hit the screen and either open things or call someone else while on the phone. It is annoying.
This really should not happen, as the device has a proximity sensor that should turn off the screen when the device is held up to your face. If you make a call with the phone held in your hand and you cover up the top of the phone, say the top 2 inches, with your other hand, does the screen blank? It should. If not, the proximity sensor may be bad and a replacement is in order.
I got my Focus Friday and have been using it a lot since. This morning, it seems like the capacitive button feedback is much weaker; it's barely noticable when I press the button.
Notification vibrate seems fine as far as I can tell, and I don't care much about the buttons. I'm just curious about
A) Has anyone else experienced this, and
B) Could this lead to other vibration problems?
Thanks.
I seem to have the same problem. In fact, all vibration has gotten weaker. I am guessing it has something to do with dust? perhaps dust is jamming the vibration motor.
Yes!
I have this problem as well and from what I can tell, it's definitely not dust-related. My guess is it's some kind of firmware issue. I've done a hard reset of the phone (AT&T's stupid suggestion) and that didn't help at all. They tried to tell me it was because "I have so many apps installed and they can affect the functionality of the phone"...BS.
If you go into the Diagnosis App, the button presses are MUCH stronger like they should be. Enter ##634# in dialer and then call. Then enter *#0842# to go to the Vibration Test. I did this a selected "Vibrator On" then exited. This fixed my problem for about a day, then it came back. I've talked to AT&T 3 times about this and finally got to an Escalation Officer. I have to go to the store now so they can "verify" and probably tell me it's fine. The people on the phone said it's still vibrating so "technically it works," which is ridiculous.
I would try this troubleshooting stuff first if I were you to see if it helps but it was a temporary fix for me. I miss a ton of messages and calls when my phone is on silent because of this. The phone isn't working properly so this is a warranty fixable problem in my opinion. Good luck.
This happened to my focus in winter night, when it became cold the vibration didn't work properly. But after some time (and several restart) it's worked as normal
I've had a problem with my E900 since I got it with regards to the screen. I was hoping Mango might fix it but it doesn't seem to have.
Sometimes if I press the power button the screen backlight comes on (i.e. screen goes from off state to powered) but there is nothing on the screen. No amount of button pressing will cause the screen to show anything.
If this happens I have to turn the device off again (backlight then goes off) and try again. Sometimes it can take 2-3 times before it turns on successfully with the lock screen.
I also have this if an incoming call attempts to wake the phone and also alarms too.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I confirm this one popping sometimes. Not that often that it becomes annoying, but nevertheless.
Did you find a solution to this problem? I am experiencing it too and it is very annoying!
I've recently inherited one as well (E900 that is).
The one I have has been dropped, the backlight powers, but no drawing on the screen.
I've disassembled and re plugged everything (bugger stripping down!) but still no luck. I've done a VolUp+Down+Cam+power hard reset, and when I plug into PC Zune says setup needs completing (so it has reformatted) but still no luck.
I cant see anything fried, and no damaged ribbons as far as I can see, any ideas?
I sold the phone a while ago, and never solved the problem. I think it's a firmware issue.

hi.
What do you mean "somethimes if I press power button"?
Is it pressed with purpose to lock the phone, press it to turn off phone (background slider shows to power off - on Mango and beyond version) or press it accidentally?
Cheers.
So, I did a phone reset. Unfortunately the issue is still present!
Sometimes when I press the power button to unlock the phone the screen is lit, but stays blank i.e. no lockscreen wallpaper, no nothing. The same happens sometimes when I get a phone call - the phone rings and vibrates, the screen is lit but stays blank.
When this happens I have to press the power button to put the phone into sleep mode and press it again to wake it up.
What I found is, when the issue occurs the screen is actually responsive. For example I can slid up and unlock the phone then I hear the unlock "pop" sound. It's just that nothing is drawn on it!
I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same behavior and found a resolution. Also I am not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem. If I could confirm it was a hardware problem I would call LG and have the phone repaired or replaced.
i have exactly the same issue as you, it gets really annoying.
i heard from someone online that the only way to resolve it is to replace the motherboard

I am pretty certain this is a hardware issue. I am calling LG tomorrow and hopefully they'll take the phone for repair/replacement.
I sent my phone for repair. Today I got it back, and guess what?!
The issue is still present! It seems, they "couldn't reproduce" or something.
What should I do now?
EDIT: If anyone is interested, here is a video I just captured which clearly demonstrates the problem. http://youtu.be/38kF9RYs_bU
I'm sending the phone back for repair tomorrow with this video attached.
Hey, might not be an issue at all, but in the video, I saw that the two times you were able to get it to go blank you had your finger on or near the proximity sensor. I wonder if there is something that could be the trigger.
Just wondering if you can duplicated it or cause it only when you have the proximity sensor blocked, or if it truely is random.
You are right, it might has something to do with the proximity/light sensor.
On the other hand, this issue occurs even on incoming calls when the phone is placed on a table, screen up and nothing around the sensor.
Today, I visited my local carrier shop and left the phone for repair again. They told me, since this is a second claim they'll run it through the process faster, so I expect to get it back next week.
Will post an update.
UPDATE: My phone was replaced. Yesterday I got a brand new unit, yeah! It was stock wp 7.0. I plugged in my sim and used the phone the whole day, no sign of blank screen issues. Last nigh I installed all the updates (total 5 I think) up to OS 7.10.8107.79, FW 1.0.16.10. Guess what?! Same issue!
I am crushed
doesn't actually seem to matter which firmware I'm running but here's the issue;
phone rings in my pocket, take the phone out then try to slide the button (on screen) to answer the call, but the screen completely freezes (as do the soft buttons) like the phone has completely locked-up.
only once it's stopped ringing (missed call) can you switch it off (soft-off, screen, standby, whatever) and then switch it back on again and it starts functioning normally. trouble is I've missed the call regardless.
wondering if anyone's had this issue (didn't see another similar thread) and if there's a likely cause, and solution.
if I'm the only one then perhaps there's a hardware fault.
also is there a relatively simple way to replace the call-handling software, or am I stuck with the native one.

I had this same issue, I was using a live wallpaper, when I went back to a standard wallpaper my defy no longer froze and screen went blank during calls.
Sorry, this is a year late!

Have a similar problem with my Defy; an incoming call "rings" but the screen remains inactive (black) so the call cannot be answered. This is an intermittent problem; I'll play with the wallpaper and let you know.
