[Q] Where can I find bluetooth security level info? - Android Software Development

Hello there,
I try to pair two devices using an SSP bluetooth connection.
The first one is a non-android that only support bluetooth connection in security mode 3 (link level enforced security), the second one is an Android 1.5 based device, but version is irrelevant here (I can upgrade or simply change for another Android device).
Pairing just doesn't work. Some guy told me that Android only support security levels 1 and 2, but I can't find the information anywhere.
Does anyone knows about that? I try to find it by myself because I wan't to check if newer releases fix that, or maybe plan to later.
Thank you in advance.

Wrong forum? Maybe "Android Software and Hacking General"?

Up? If an admin goes there, can you move this thread to another forum (if you think I'll have more answers)?

Challenge for you.

Hi first thing I will say is this is not for XDA but for SPV E200. I am aware this is an XDA forum but after seeing some of the things you guys have been able to do with the XDA ROM/OS I thought I would ask if anyone in here could help with this problem due to the similarity of the devices and the fact that they are made by the same company, HTC.
I have posted this originally in a Modaco forum for Smarphones but noone is technically capable enough to help.
If you could read the link below and reply if you think you are up to the challenge of hacking the SPV to get rid of this extremely annoying "complete lack of bluetooth range in headset mode" problem.

Come on there must be someone out there?
Advice
Hi,
It is really hard to come up with something because I have no idea about your device
Try to contact your brand reseller and ask him for system updates, or check forums that are dedicated to your device for such updates. System updates can usually resolve such issues in 70% of cases
Try to minimize 3rd party software usage and check your devices again
Try Pocket Bluetooth Tools (both versions; check for url at xda-dev frontpage)
Try to change your coat/case/cover because it might have BT radio frequency reducing effect
The hardware is HTC, just like the XDA.
The reseller is Orange and they are bringing out the C500 to replace it as they have given up on the E200.
Orange have no intention on bringing out any more fixes for the unit.
All I need is for the power to be increased in the bluetooth transmitter when it is in headset mode.
Finding right upgrade
What I propose to you is to check different upgrades:
http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/2210.html
http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spv2/promo.html?id=SPVE200_ROMCodeUpgrade
http://www.mtekk.com.au/browse/page657.html
... all of them claim about BT functionality improvements
They all have better functionality as in they work with more headsets, but none of them increases the range.
I am on the latest Orange E200 UK release currently. I have scoured the web for a fix and found nothing, hence my last ditch attempt to see if someone can hacl the phone.
What about the rest E200 users

And what about other e200 users? Do they have the same problem?
You don't need any hack. If you use your BT headset in BT discoverable mode, then BT radio works at a maximum transmission rate, if in usual BT on mode, then BT transmission is adjusted to the environment (bonded devices)

Bluetooth Security Issues

Hello everyone,
I recently read / saw on TV that a lot of cell phones are vulnerable to hacking attempts through the bluetooth interface. I heard about these problems already quite a while ago but was let to believe that shutting off bluetooth or choosing the "do not reveal phone to others"-bluetooth-option would solve that problem.
Now I read something quite to the contrary - shutting off bluetooth does not help that much but instead a firmware upgrade is needed for a lot of cell phones.
Now I wonder whether or not my XDA II is safe when bluetooth is shut off.
Since my search query on this topic in this forum didn't return any results I post this question now - hoping to hear from some of you...
Thanx
Z.
Try sending encypted files thrue bluetooth. Anything ellse can be tapped.

HERO bluetooth question

Hi everyone,
I want to ask if HERO can connect to any other device at all. I know that bluetooth is very limited in HERO, but all I can do is pair it with other devices, but not connect. I successfully detect and pair it with my PC and my other PDA, but when I try to search for services , nothing is found, which is strange.
I am aming at internet via bluetooth and I even read in one site that it has PAN profile. But not discovering ANY service I think is strange.
Is there any way for me of having PAN without rooting the device
as in this solution:

or should I wait for android 2.0?
Thanks.
New Response From [ HTC (Europe Support (Tech) ]
Sorry, but this is not a feature that the new Android OS supports just yet. We are still waiting on an update from Google that adds this function to the Android devices. We have no date on the update just yet, but we really hope it will not be very long.
there is no solution at this time.

rSAP not working after Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade.?

I'm starting a new thread on this because I think it is important and to gather together findings on this.
From early reports it seems that rSAP is not working for some people after upgrading to Froyo.
rSAP is not part of any Android build but is built in to the Galaxy S by Samsung, which is why it is the only Android phone to support this.
Samsung seem to say it is still there but all the reports I have read suggest otherwise, although one member has posted on this forum saying it works for him. This leaves us with four possibilities:
Some Bluetooth settings have changed which disable rSAP (I can find none.)
Some network settings have changed which disable rSAP. As rSAP is a GSM only protocol, which is why it doesn't work on 3, this is a possibility. I see the network setting is now for Auto GSM/WCDMA mode, which did cause problems on a previous Nokia with rSAP. Possibly changing to GSM only could resolve this.
Various builds of Froyo do not include rSAP. It is possible, for example, that the 3 build does not and the upcoming O2 build may include it.
Samsung really have made a rick and left it out of the build.
Currently my Mercedes-Benz is in for a respray and I have no way of testing any of this.
I'd be interested in hearing others experiences. This is a serious issue for me as I purchased the Galaxy S precisely because it did support rSAP. If it is now removed then the reason I bought the phone is gone and Samsung owe me a refund under the sale of goods act.
Just had a reply from Samsung support who say that if rSAP isn't working it is a software issue and to take the phone to a Samsung service centre. Given that the rSAP profile is a Samsung thing and not an Android thing perhaps this means some Froyo installations fail to initialize the rSAP profile.
So, for the avoidance of doubt, has anyone actually confirmed they've got rSAP working when running Froyo?
Someone has... reply #7

I can confirm that RSAP is working on my german I-9000. I am currently running Tayutamas Froyo (1.03) and using my phone with a VW PSFE. The issue that contacts are only imported from the sim card still remains.
So far all the reports of rSAP continuing to work after Froyo seem to be VW users. Mercedes-Benz, Audi and possibly Porsche seem to be the users reporting issues.
Just installed the VW 3C8035730A module to replace the rSap only 5N0035730C.
I have a HTC Touch HD that works as a rSap and a Iphone 4 that works as HF now. Android should should work i guess too.

Read bluetooth device battery

Hey,
I already asked the question here but I thought I could not help to post it here anyway because maybe it's a bit better for a question which deals with custom ROM sources.
On my Tablet (with CyanogenMod 14.1) I can see the battery status of my connected bluetooth headset (no BLE device). On my phone (which runs on Stock 7.1) I can't see this information. Also iOS can display the battery status.
I would like to build an application which gives me this information also on my phone. For this I thought I could copy and modify the CM source code but I can't find anything where they read the battery status from connected bluetooth devices.
Has anyone found something like this in the massive source of CM and can give my the link to the source? Also a rooted solution or a system app which I have to flash would be okay.
Hope someone can help me here.
Greetings, Cilenco
If one device is correctly reading the battery data then the data is probably being sent over the connection. I would suggest reading the packets that are received from you headset. There is possibly a mic line, audio line, and battery/data line. your phone may only be reading the mic and audio.
