HERO bluetooth question - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi everyone,
I want to ask if HERO can connect to any other device at all. I know that bluetooth is very limited in HERO, but all I can do is pair it with other devices, but not connect. I successfully detect and pair it with my PC and my other PDA, but when I try to search for services , nothing is found, which is strange.
I am aming at internet via bluetooth and I even read in one site that it has PAN profile. But not discovering ANY service I think is strange.
Is there any way for me of having PAN without rooting the device
as in this solution:
http://www.gotontheinter.net/content/second-g1-story-proper-bluetooth-tethering-how-short
or should I wait for android 2.0?
Thanks.

New Response From [ HTC (Europe Support (Tech) ]
Sorry, but this is not a feature that the new Android OS supports just yet. We are still waiting on an update from Google that adds this function to the Android devices. We have no date on the update just yet, but we really hope it will not be very long.
there is no solution at this time.
best regards,

Anyone got Sim Access Profile working?

Hi
I wondered if anyone had successfully used the Sim Access Profile capabilkity of the of TyTn to connect with a Bluetooth car kit. I'm trying to get the connection going with a Merc. car kit, but I can't get them to pair.
Thx
Hi petes, I have an slk 55 amg with command and bluetooth. The bluetooth in the command system does not work for pairing with a phone. Even though it says it has bluetooth. To use bluetooth you need an extra module.
Hope this helps...

Hi Dale
Thanks. I actually already have the module - the european version of the module is different to the US one in that it uses Sim Access Profile, rather than just acting as a headset. The TyTn says is supports SAP, but I just can't make it work - wondering if anyone's actually got SAP working.

Hi Petes,
I also have an Mercedes-Benz with the european bluetooth module. But I have a Qtek 9100 updated to AKU2 (Which is supposed to support SAP), but no luck at all. Actually the module can not even identify my phone and display it at the search screen of the comand screen. I tried also with a NOKIA 6230i (SAP Compatible phone) which actually I was able to see at the search list of the comand screen which means that the module is working with SAP compatible phones. What I will do next, is to try again with the new firmware I installed to my 9100 (T-Mobiles 2.21 Version) which has a SAP application for bluetooth (Something like SAP Server).
I can not do it yet because I am abroad and I will be back again 1st of September. I will let you know the results ASAP.
If you have any news from your site with TyTn please let me know because I was intending to change my 9100 to TyTn just for the SAP functionality.
Hi Barsam
The reason you can't find the 9100 when you search with the BT module is that it only looks for devices which identify themselves as Phones. The TyTn (and no doubt the 9100) identify themselves as Pocket PCs and so the (stupid!) Mercedes kit ignores them. The good news is that you can hack the registry to tell the Bluetooth stack that it's a phone. The bad news is that you can't pair with it. Getting it into the search screen doesn't mean it supports SAP - I could see my old T68 just when I was testing. Could you actually pair with the 6230i - i.e. when you see it in the list select Call?
When you're back, PM me and I'll send you the hack.
To tell you the truth I didn't try to pair the 6230i, but it's one of the phones that mercedes have tested on the bluetooth module. If I don't manage to do it with the 9100 I may get a 6230i. At least I can use the one that my brother has to test it and even copy my contacts to comand. Have you tried the hack with the TyTn? Can you tell me what is the the registry set to do that?
Where did you find out that the bluetooth module ignores enything elese than phones?
Make the following registry change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\SYS]
"COD"=dword:52020C
On your own head etc.. Keep a copy of the current value of course. Then do a soft reset. You'll then see it as a phone. I've tried this, and can now see the phone, but can't pair. I've had a mail back from HTC that they're aware of some problem with the SAP and are working on it.
I wish a nice car kit would be released in the USA that supports SAP/850 & 1900/ external aerial...
hello,
i'm trying to get my TyTN working with my Meceder Command too... does anyone tried the English ROM-Update? Someone wrote that he can use it's TyTN with his Audi after updating the ROM. And tha Audi-MMI-System works also with SAP... perhpas after the ROM-Update it works with Mecedes Command System too...
I haven't tried it yet - I've been waiting for the TyTn update to come along, but nothing from HTC yet. If I don't get anything soon, I'll switch over to the iMate ROM and report back.
I have used a nokia 6233 6280 onmy E55 2005 with B/t Module
The mercedes module in conjuntion with the command system is problimatic, hoever I think I have another peice of the puzzle. With both the above phones they only worked using Vodaphone 3g cards Three 3g cards paired using SAP however could not get recieption....Mercedes say (there guessing) its the way the sim card is configured.....
Mercedes BT
I have a TYTN on order and Im desperate to find a solution to the issue before it arrives.....
As a follow on to my last post ...basically what I THINK found out was if the sim card was configured to work only on a 3G phone..(some networks do this so that they cannot be put in a 2.5g phone and constantly roam on).....then it would pair with the Bluetooth module in Mercedes however never get recieption.
I tried this on several phones including 6233 6280 N80 E61.....just to name a few....ALL PAIRED....however If I put a Vodaofone 3g Card in then IT worked .....IF i put a Three 3G card in it didnt.....BUMMER CAUSE I'm with THREE.....
I hope this helps in some way and Im more than happy to be corrected however these are my first hand expeirnces....I WANT TO USED THE TYTN in my MErc so Im keen to help in amy way....I have unlimited access to phones...so if anyone has any other suggestions Im happy to give it a go....
Mark
At the moment, you'll find that by default the merc kit won't even see the Tytn (it's a pocket pc, not a phone as far as Bluetooth is concerned). You can hack the registry to change this, but then the phone will be seen, but pairing will fail. Hopefully, the forthcoming firmware update will fix this - I've had mail back from HTC support to suggest they know there are problems with the SAP support.
Mercedes BT
Is there anyone who had paired Nokia phones with Mercedes BT(euro spec) successfully? I had tried for several Nokia phones (6230i/6270/6280) to pair with BT ,all failed. I can just find the 16-digit PIN on Comand, no phone appears on Comand. Phone & Comand can't find each other. Do I have to set other setting except the "bluetooth setting" for mobile phone? Even I try to "search for audio enhancements" and 'find no devices' at all .
Thanks Petes,
Did they give any idea on time frames?...Did you have any thoughts about my experience with the different sim cards....
Mark
I am considering buying the HTC TyTN and the Merc Bluetooth module so I am very keen to know if anyone can get this working.
Thanks,
Ady
Nope - no news on timescales I'm afraid - just waiting for the firmware update from HTC. I'm reluctant to try the iMate firmware at the moment - until there's an HTC to go back to in case something goes awry. Has anyone had a chance to try SAP with either of the newer firmwares (iMate or Dopod) - might give us a good clue if the HTC one's going to work.
I've connected my 6230i easily enough, just remember to allow "auto connect without confirmation" on the phone after entering the 16 digit code
I have tried my HW6915 pocket pc but like the other PPC's it is not recognised
A reply I got from HTC support on 21/09/2006 asking about the Merc SAP problem was:
At present the TyTN is only compatable with a limited number of kits. A ROM update will be released shortly to update this.

So fingers crossed that it will be soon and solve the problem.
I asked them the same thing a while ago and just checked back in on availability. Just got ...
"At present the HTC ROM for the TyTN is being written and tested and we expect it to be released in the very near future."
So, patience is a virtue I hear....

Unable to connect to the Internet via Bluetooth

Guys, could you please help? I have been trying to connect my laptop to the internet using my HTC 9100. I have installed the bluesoleil software, that came with the BT dongle and have also created a BT DUN modem.
The problem is that I cannot make the BT Modem link discoverable to the laptop. When I open Star Menu->programs->Modem link I see three menus. The first one is "Connection" but it only leaves me with the option of choosing between IrDA or USB. There is no Bluetooth to choose from that menu.
Any ideas would be warmly welcomed. I don't know why HTC made it so complicated. I've had SE's, Nokia's and other brands and have never faced such difficulties in connecting.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
BTW my ROM version is 1.6.7.1

Please read the AKU3 Networking Bible (it also has a lot of info on pre-AKU3 ROM's Internet connectivity): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780
Thanks, Menneisyys. I am speechless, I have to admit. I read your thread (have to admit didn't get much of the essence )and couldn't believe what I read. Never imagined that a high-end device as an HTC Wizard would be deprived of a function like the BT DUN. Come on! This must be some kind of a sick joke!
I have been using mobile internet ever since our provider started offering this service over CSD some 6-7 years ago (maybe more). Noone had ever heard of BT and GPRS those days. At that time IrDA was quite an advance method of connecting my PC to the phone (good old Nokia 6210). No doubt that BT was a much more advanced method of connectiong and it was only logical for me to switch to BT to keep up with the latest in technology.
And now with a modern device (one Wizard undoubtedly is) in my hands I have to take a huge step back to data cable, because it's more convenient, bearing in mind that I got rid of my IrDA dongle, thinking that I may never have to use it again. Dead wrong! Yes, my laptop does not have built-in IrDA or BT modules, but that mainly because I don't change laptops as often as I change mobile phones.
Anyway, hopefully MS would reconsider this issue and do the necessary to deal with this stupid deficiency.
Just came to me: it is the same with HTC Hermes??? With the UMTS support and everything. Gee....hope it's not

Not yet - if you use the standard, pre-AKU3 ROM. It, however, will become a problem with the Hermes too when AKU3 is released.
MS is awre of the problem - I've triggered / provided a lot of feedback on the provate MVBP mailing lists. I'm pretty sure they will reconsider including DUN back in a later AKU.
Thanks, mate. Hope that MS will re-gain their common sense

[Q] Bluetooth & USB problems + rom's.

Hi guys,
I'm a complete noob on Android since I've bought a new X5, my first android, only yesterday. I came from a Nokia/Blackberry world so the differences are huge.
I have a couple of fundamental needs on a phone witch are bluetooth connectivity and Synchronization with Outlook. Both of these options are possible as far as I can understand with this phone but they are not working.
The bluetooth pairs with other devices but does not connect. I've tried car hands free, other phones and my laptop. it says paired but not connected.
The Hi Suite software requests me to install the usb drivers but the ones that come with the phone have a \adb_driver\android_winusb.inf that I cannot install because it returns an error when I try to right click-install. I'm running W7 Pro 64bit SP1.
Problem solved.... just a mater of turning usb debug on in Aplication/development phone options. One to go
Finally is there any tutorial for ROM updates in this forum?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance,
Miguel
In regards to BT, you have to retry when it says paired but not connected.
If you wanna try different Roms, this is probably the best guide:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/341011-ultimate-guide-to-the-huawei-u8800/
And this is probably the best source of stock Roms:
http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8800
Good luck!
PS: With tens of Roms I've tried, the BT connectivity is still not great on my X5.
I've managed to connect the phone to the car hands free after about 20 attempts of pairing/unpairing ... I can't connect with the PC dough. Seems that the bluetooth stack of this phone sucks. Is there any BT alternative?
Thanks for you assistance .

I agree, BT sucks and so far none of the Roms have overcome that problem.

[Q] How to enable Bluetooth DUN / PAN for Trophy

Hi all,
Recently got my company car, a Prius, with the Toyota Touch pro nav system in it. This requires Bluetooth DUN support so I will get updates and search, etc.
Unfortunately, I understand from the specs of my HTC Trophy the DUN profile is not supported. My carrier does support Internet tethering, but that is only offered on my phone via WIFI. I would not mind to install a custom ROM or some additional drivers/apps to enable this. Any suggestions or other people with this problem?
And yes, I know, Bluetooth DUN is quite old, but unfortunately, it seems the car industry lags far behind the technological evolution if it comes to there nav systems. I mean; why not just add an iPad dock ?
Thanks all; great site this!

Is there any way to check what Bluetooth version a connected device is using?

Hi all,
I'm using a Android TV 10 streaming box.
A question that seems straightforward to me, but one I can't find an answer to;
Is there any way to see with what Bluetooth version a connected device is communicating?
(to be clear, when I say connected, I mean connected via Bluetooth)
I have a conflict with a Amazon seller.
He advertised his product (rx/tx Bluetooth receiver) as having Bluetooth 5.0 but I have my doubts as similar products have Bluetooth 3.0 class 2 chips on them.
He says his product is an upgraded version, but that doesn't seem very likely.
As the package, manual and product are quite generic and don't show much in the form of specs there isn't much to go on.
So it would be nice if I could check the Bluetooth version being used in the connection.
Any way to do this?
System info apps I found only seem to tell the Bluetooth version of the device it's running on, not connected devices.
