Hi all, I have a quick question. I have read in various forums that leaving my phone plugged in after its fully charged can ruin battery life. Does anyone know if this is true? I usually plug it in to charge when I go to bed and I know it finishes well before o wake up. Thanks
A question for mythbusters! In this day and age it won't harm the phone or battery...though some people disagree...I've always charged mine overnight...especially since the vibrant takes a little over 4 hours to charge!

That's what I thought, but I figured I would ask. Thanks
No problem leaving it plugged in overnight, according to this tweet from Samsung Service,

Has anyone else seen this? From 100 to 90% the power just drops almost instantaneously but after 90% its normal.
Already been brought up, a lot.
Apparently when your phone charges up it stops once it reaches ~100% and begins discharging, even though it is still on the charger. People will turn their phone off after a full charge and charge for an additional 20min to an hour before they get another green LED. People have reported much longer battery life when doing this, but it is a pain in the ass.

Ahh interesting. I thought I was running into an old winmo rom flashing issue where if you flashed under 50% battery life you could never charge the device above that point.
Yea it sucks but it works... I just ordered an external battery charger since I have 2 batteries now so I don't have to do this anymore

Hmm i tried and it acted the same way.
Apparently the HTC models act like older phones did back in the day. What HTC needs to do is put something on the phone face itself when new that says "CHARGE FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE INITIAL POWER ON FOR MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE."
Once you do this once you dont have to keep doing it. I also powered on my phone the minute I got it and activated it without charging it first and I was seeing this issue until I did a power off charge. The phone runs from 6am to 11pm without an additional charge cycle in the day and that is a huge improvement for me. I was charging the phone twice to three times daily.
Miiight be a dumb question, but can I use my A500 during the initial charge? I just got home from BB and I'm dying to start using this thing, however I remember seeing a few different threads on different forums about people having problems with their batteries and seeing replies of "did you let it charge for 4 hours?".
Is it safe to use the device during these 4 hours? Or should I leave it off?
I've been doing some forum surfing in the meantime and It's charged for about two hours so far.
Thanks for your guruness and assistance!
so far if you not let it charge "always" it's not a big deal.
charge it when you need to charge it, and unplug it when the battery is full that should be better.
I use often until it's arround 5% left and after charge it.
It's not a dumb question. You can use it while it's charging but you're slowing the process. Play with it a bit, get it out of your system, then let it finish its charge.

I'm using XXJVO Gingerbread. When the battery is charged 100%, it shows the charged notification and *starts discharging*.immediately. The earlier ROM would stay on AC and use power from the charger (like a laptop).
After battery is charged 100%, I used the phone as usual with charger plugged in and once unplugged, charge dropped to 70%!

Read the forum before posting another stupid thread about something that has been commented too many times already.
It works that way now, we know that, it has been explained thousands of times in the last month.
I have to defend the OP since I definitely see what they are saying.
e.g. I plug the charger in last thing at night. In the morning I unplug and can see that the charge level is about 97%. This we all know is normal to protect the battery. On froyo, if I don't use the phone, it'll stay at 95-97 thoughout the morning. On gb, when I unplug it also displays 97 but over the next few hours it'll drop rapidly and stabilises at about 80%. I can see from System Panel that nothing is using the phone and it remains in sleep.
I'm not sure whats causing this but its definately different than froyo.

Instead of being so critical and nasty, why don't you just supply the op with a link to a duplicate thread?
Ive noticed a few here that dont seem to contribute anything useful...
Anyways... This is the first ive heard of this... Usually I unplug and find it at 97-98%.... And I tend to play a fair bit with the phone plugged, and have not noticed this yet... But will definetly check this out...
i think this phone doesn't really have an AC mode. even on froyo, it's only virtually AC, the battery is constantly used when fully charged: the power goes from AC to the battery then from battery to the device. just try to turn on the phone while no battery, only AC is connected. that would be AC mode but this phone sadly can't do that..

I noticed the same issue with JVO. I had never had that problem before, so I am now on JVH to see if it is any different. I am quite sure that my battery is properly calibrated too. It would seem that, even if there isn't a true AC mode, that the software wouldn't let the battery run down past a certain point without recharging.

It also happened to me on JVH.

Hey guys, I just wanted to point something out that I found. I have two Motorola bh6x batteries for my atrix and today one of the batteries ran down to 15% or so. Since I was in a hurry I just swapped it out for my fully charged battery. Later on I plugged the first battery back in and it somehow had 55% charge. What I'm wondering is how the heck that's possible. Has anyone else seen this happen to their phones?

My experience with android. Reboot phone to gain about 10% back.

Its magic!! I had a feeling this was a glitch in the battery reading.

It was Harry Potter who done it!
I swear guv!
In adition to rebooting and taking the battery out to sit idle, Ive found that soaking my battery overnight will double its charge! jk
I know your phone keeps a batterystats.bin file, and to "calibrate" you delete this file after fully charged. Not sure how this works with two batteries tho.?
Well, i got the phone today for christmas. When i powered it up and plugged it into the charger it waas 86% on the phone. I charged it to 100% then tried it for 10 minutes and i noticed that it went down to around 86%.. And i was like WTF so i powered it in again and now its still in there..
I thought that the reason for this is that its a new batter and never been fully charged so it have to be charged for several hours on 100% for it to be fully loaded.. Is this true or what can cause this problem??
Thanks alot in advance!
Miikalsen
Let the battery discharge all the way before charging it up again.
It takes a while for a new battery to settle in.
By the way, nice Christmas present!
