This worked great for me, better than both the original fixes. Thanks for the heads up.

I was actually going to post the Auto Config tip on the original GPS fix thread. This fix works best for me. It's still flaky sometimes but it's much better than stock or the first fix.

I left in my initial settings from the first fix, and supplemented it with the auto setting from this fix. And though I leave use wireless networks disabled, I get an exact lock in about 5 seconds now!
now if only we could fix the compass...

NP guys
I was just playing with the settings and found that this worked great so I made a vid.
I also turned on MS Assisted so I can get a lock indoors

So this doesn't require you to have wireless networks turned on?

this one works great...
I actually never really had a problem with gps in the first place but usually it only finds 7 satellites and this fix instantly found me 11...

1. Disable "Use Wireless Network" under Settings > Location and Security
2. Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
3. Go to SUPL/CP Settings
4. Change Custom Config to Auto Config
5. Restart phone
6. Reenable "Use Wireless Network"

Thanks, any mention of Accuracy (50 or 100) or Operation mode?

just tried those settings on my vibrant (exchanged my 1st one - this one just arrived today) and GPS was crap before the settings, and worse after the setting changes

just tried the settings and mine is even worse.
just joking, just joking OP, thanks for the tip. finally, after the first gps fix that was put out, this locked me on in my exact location, not 3 blocks away, from the start.

No change when using GPStest. But was not expecting it to.

On mine if I use Maps and Nav it works fine but if I try and use Google Buzz and then maps it does not work until I reboot.
I just stop using buzz and it work fine now, not great but fine. it's accurate to about 3 feet for me if I have it in standalone mode, if I enable MS assist it accurate to about 15 feet.

I did try heygrl's config settings. The results were pretty decent but not perfect driving, not good walking. See results and my analysis here.

I had pretty good success with this fix too. Not perfect either, but good enough for me.

GPS only works with A-GPS turned on

I just noticed that the GPS never actually makes a connection with satellites. If I turn off A-GPS, no GPS functionality works what so ever.
Anyone else have this issue, or know how to fix it?
I don't use A-GPS and it works for me

I assume you mean the "Enable Assisted GPS" setting. I've been ruining without it and been fine.
In fact it gets a reading so fast without this setting, I was wondering what the A-GPS sering was for. I thought it's to improve the speed of the sat lock.
Would it help with battery too?
Well then i wonder what's up with mine?
The point of aGPS (from my non-technical understanding) is it is there to speed up the acquisition of satellites via data service telling the phone where the sats should be. So depending on your view of the sky and other conditions aGPS can make a big difference in how long it takes to get a sat lock. I know it did for my WinMo phones. However whatever GPS receiver they put in the DX doesn't seem to need it nearly as much. I rarely see more than a 3 second delay just turning GPS on. As a matter of fact it locks quicker than my Tomtom.
Ironicly, rooting it resolved the issue.

[Q] Google maps...... any ideas?

Google maps can't find my location it keeps saying temp. Unavailable therefore my weather app ( beautiful widgets) isn't working correctly either I have the official tmobile update running completely stock, I can't figure it out... my gps works fine but I'm inside a apt building surrounded by allot of trees so leaving the gps on is not a option( besides the fact that it's a battery eater) but I do have full 3G bars... any ideas cause I'm fresh out?
Did you try unchecking "Use GPS Satellites" under "settings"/"location and security"?
Yeah its already unchecked..I tried almost everything before I decided to post
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Is "use wireless networks" checked?
Basically, there are only two methods for the phone to know where it is: The "Use wireless networks" method, which enables a coarse tower-based estimate, or the more precise fix by enabling the GPS. If both are disabled, there is no way for Google Maps or any other app to know where you are. Dunno which of these two values Beautiful Widgets is looking for.
Set yr beautiful Widget to a fixed place,
Or use wireless location
Wireless network is checked. This is not a beautiful widget problem but rather a google maps or location problem its showing that I'm at a place I was two days ago and when I try to go into maps and hit the find my location button it says location temporarily unavailable

Yes sometime the Google map remember yr old location, just uncheck both wireless and GPS and go into Google map again can erase that record
For the temp unavailable issue, it is yr GPS problem, did u update to the ji6? It fixed the GPS issue already
And one thing, the wireless location is a estimated location, so if u r using the 3g, it estimated the big area of yr 3g signal ( don't exactly know how to say)
but if u r using Wi-Fi, the estimated is based on yr Mac address so it is more accurate coz it knows where yr router is
Well my gps is fine I don't use it indoors because I live in a apt (no signal outdoors its fine) so its off and I have wireless checked so it uses tmobile 3g network to find my location.... and I have the update I guess I'm a anomaly

I miss a few Windows Mobile features

Curious if other WM migrators have found solutions (probably good apps) for the following:
1. Better reminders from calendar events. Right now I hear a single sound and then my LED blinks. In WM, it was almost an alarm and was more persistent - it would alarm every few minutes until the event occurred.
2. Better snoozing - I liked the ability to choose 5 or 10 or 30,etc minute snooze on reminders/alarms. I've seen a lot of good alarms in the Market, but this is also for event reminders.
3. Exchange address book lookup - I could look up an email address in my global exchange server-side from my phone, very handy if it's not in your address book.
4. Voice command - my touch pro had fairly perfect voice command. The Epic seems to default voice search instead of voice command. Is there some way to remap the long press on the search into voice command instead of voice search?
Thanks in advance fellow WM converts.
2. If you go to the Alarm Clock, press menu then settings. You can change the snooze duration.
4. There is Voice Actions for Android but currently only 2.2 is supported so you have to wait for the Froyo update to use that. In the mean time, try Vlingo from the market. It's free and has some nice voice activated features.
5. a working gps.

What do you mean by working GPS? I get a lock within 3 seconds, every single time I use it. Are you saying a GPS that is more accurate? Because then I could agree. But it certainly works and works very well for me. I have it set to cold start the GPS, and I have "Use wireless networks" enabled as well as GPS, and its flawless. Just not super accurate.
My GPS rocks as well. I could go for some better battery life though.

No, I know using the wireless networks is not the GPS. You enable "use wireless networks" so that the GPS can get a lock near instantly. If you enable both, you get locks within 5 seconds every single time. If you enable GPS only, you gotta wait a long time, ESPECIALLY if you have GPS set to cold start. So yea, enable both, and you will get GPS locks instantly, whether you are on a boat or in a car. As long as you are not in the middle of the atlantic, enabling "use wireless networks" alongside GPS will help the phone get GPS locks dramatically quicker.

It works fine. I've been using it with cold start set and wireless networks OFF and it locks all the time for me lately.
Well, I was perfectly fine with my GPS because I thought it had to do with where my house was, but my brother got a iPhone 4 and that thing is super accurate and locks on way faster than my Epic. So is this a hardware issue or a software issue? Also, his compass seems to be a lot less jerky than mine. I mean the GPS works for what I need to do but better is always welcome.

All of us hope it's a software issue.
We also hope that 2.2 fixes it.
That's yet to be seen!
I know you can change the snooze duration on a global scale - the nice thing about WM is it let you change it when a notification popped up for only that notification.
Does the voice action tie directly to the capacitive button? The point of it is to not be looking at the phone so using widgets/apps etc is not an option if it's not tied to a hardware key.
Poor GPS. I wish it would be fixed so it stops hijacking threads. I'm so glad the 3g upload issue got fixed - the boards are a lot nicer now.

use vlingo from the market for voice search command. Works really well and has a wide variety of commands like "send message to ___ message hi how are you?" or navigate too pizza hut etc...Also android 2.2 has a incredibly good stock voice command feature which is no use to you right now since sprint and samsung are lagging it

You can do this without any additional apps and without changing settings.
Start your new message, click in the To box and click the search button. You should be on a screen titled "GAL Search." That searches the global address book.
Edit: I'm talking about the search button that is in the group of buttons under the Bcc field not the magnifying glass button at the bottom of the phone.

Completely and totally untrue.

I just want a new rom with a fully functional reliable GPS! :(

I cannot get the GPS to work correctly on any ROM that I flash. It either never finds the GPS and says searching for signal or finds it and cuts out really quick and gets stuck on searching for signal.
Ever thought its a hardware problem and not software?

Which ROMs are you flashing? The only one I've had trouble with GPS has been CyanogenMod, but it's a known issue there that the GPS doesn't work right.

The GPS for the LG GT540 is only supported for UK and US. As I live in New Zealand, it doesn't work for me unless I use the mod.
If you do live in those regions, see if it is receiving enough signal for it to make an assumption of the location. Wi-fi or cellular data makes the location more accurate.

Do you have data assisted location on? Go to --> Settings --> Location and security and then check if 'Use wireless networks' is only on. GPS will work with that on but will be less accurate that the use of an actual GPS connection. Also try it with both 'Use wireless networks' and 'Use GPS satellites' (if not already) and then try it with only 'Use GPS satellites' (to see if it actually determines location from satellites.

I use it sometimes of the road or while walking. I use it about once a week, but the frequency can fluctuate. I use MapDroyd. It's free on the Android Market and you can use it offline with a downloadable map.
I haven't had any real problems with the GPS and 2.3.5 although it seems to get a bit jittery occasionally (sometimes jumping up to 3 miles away from the current location) and every now and the GPS seems to shut down and restart.
I use Sygic GPS Navigation but it also happens with Google Maps as well.
Do you have or had 'Use wireless network' on. It happens to mine too. It seems like the location of which it used a data connection on is first used and then the actual location by a GPS.
