[Q] Mur4ik CM7 Gingerbread GPS fails - GT540 Optimus General

After installing Gingerbread 2.3.5 | CyanogenMod 7 | SwiftDroid (v2.0 RC4)| Mur4ik rom, the GPS doesn't work... only some times works perfectly, and some times I need to restart the mobile several times.
Anyone has the same problem?
I tried with this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989578
but it doesn't work properly.
Any idea?

The GPS for the LG GT540 is only supported for UK and US. As I live in New Zealand, it doesn't work for me unless I use the mod.
If you do live in those regions, see if it is receiving enough signal for it to make an assumption of the location. Wi-fi or cellular data makes the location more accurate.

It works for me, I live in Indonesia. I have compare the coordinate result between GT540 gps and field gps which was Garmin GPSMap and the result is quite good. In the format of Degree-Minute-Seconds, they're only slight different in 'seconds unit'.

I'm not talking about Google Maps, after install RC4 version the GPS doesn't work well. Only some times, in other forums I read that is for the CM7 version, I tried a lot of fixes, but some programs like runtastic or Google Maps don't work properly.
I'm searching for a fast solution to fix the problem.

So does the installation of RC4 reduce the accuracy or does it fully disable your access to GPS?

After a long time (1 day) with the mobile switched on the GPS doesn't work, with any app, google maps, gps status or runtastic, I wait for the GPS fix status but the GPS system doesn't detect any satellite. Only few times works properly.
When it doesn't work I need to make a long batch to make it work, switch GPS off, run "fasterboot", run "GPS fix", switch GPS on, reboot and try it again... after this process some times works, and some times not... so I need to repeat the process until it works and it's a desperate situation.
Any idea?

Do you have data assisted location on? Go to --> Settings --> Location and security and then check if 'Use wireless networks' is only on. GPS will work with that on but will be less accurate that the use of an actual GPS connection. Also try it with both 'Use wireless networks' and 'Use GPS satellites' (if not already) and then try it with only 'Use GPS satellites' (to see if it actually determines location from satellites.

My GPS module seems to be also [email protected]#d up :/

I know what are you talking about... but the problem is when i'm running with runtastic software or walking with navigation the accuracy is horrible! I need that the GPS works properly, is one thing really necessary for my hobbies and job.
It doesn't work from the SwiftDroid with CM7. I read in other forums that the problem comes with CM7, but the fixes only works well with another brands of mobile phones. I'm thinking about to change to the [AOSP][v4.1] Android 2.3.5 or downgrade the Mur4ik version...

I'm using the latest build of Swiftdroid and the accuracy is very good. The cause of this could be the location of the GPS and/or the current configuration.

I use it sometimes of the road or while walking. I use it about once a week, but the frequency can fluctuate. I use MapDroyd. It's free on the Android Market and you can use it offline with a downloadable map.

I haven't had any real problems with the GPS and 2.3.5 although it seems to get a bit jittery occasionally (sometimes jumping up to 3 miles away from the current location) and every now and the GPS seems to shut down and restart.
I use Sygic GPS Navigation but it also happens with Google Maps as well.

Do you have or had 'Use wireless network' on. It happens to mine too. It seems like the location of which it used a data connection on is first used and then the actual location by a GPS.

Using GPS without CDMA signal

Hello:
I try use the GPS of Sprint Hero in Argentina (there are no operators that use CDMA)
and I can not find the satellite signals, what I can do?
Thanks in advance
Gps will not work without a network location first. You may be able to connect to a wifi and it work, maybe.

Are you using a custom ROM, or just stock 2.1?
Probably nothing you can do. The gps hardware is not powerful enough to work without a network location.

my thoughts are...
GPS works.. but without data it has no reference.
Maps must be downloaded via some internet connection. Maybe a wifi can help u.
or
you can download a stand alone GPS map app. CoPilot is a good one, but cost $30.
Yeah, but the gps can't even find a lock without a recent network signal to tell it where to start looking. It's not a full on gps antenna.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I have been traveling around the world recently with my EVO and using the GPS to do so. It's GPS chip is no better than the Hero's I believe.
Things to keep in mind, without aGPS help, it can take these things up to 30 minutes to find your correct location. Usually it takes 4 strong signals to pinpoint it. Download GPS Status from the market and it will show you all of the satellites it is picking up as well as the strengths and you will know when you have a lock. It will also allow you to keep the phone awake and the gps active until it gets a fix. This is probably your main problem. If the phone is not actively using the gps, it turns off the chip and never gets a chance to get a fix.
You need to run GPS status preferably when you are connected to a wifi signal and outside with a clear shot of the sky. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes depending on if you are on a wifi connection, how far away you are from the last known lock stored in the chip (GPS Status will display this for you) and also how far from the equator you are, etc. If you are very far south in argentina it can be a LOT more difficult GPS to work... I noticed my GPS had waaay more trouble up in sweden than it did down in central europe.
Also, Download mapdroyd and get the maps for the area you are in. It works pretty well for a free locally stored map app. GPS Status also allows you to add pins/labels to gps coordinates and then do a radar type guidance back to them. Between these two tools and now knowing how to connect your phone, you should never get lost again, providing your battery does not die. Luckily I brought 4 extra batteries with me!

I just want a new rom with a fully functional reliable GPS! :(

I cannot get the GPS to work correctly on any ROM that I flash. It either never finds the GPS and says searching for signal or finds it and cuts out really quick and gets stuck on searching for signal.
Ever thought its a hardware problem and not software?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Which ROMs are you flashing? The only one I've had trouble with GPS has been CyanogenMod, but it's a known issue there that the GPS doesn't work right.

If that doesn't work, then try the CM7 GPS fix.
First make sure you are on a Sense ROM.
Get your MSL using the MSL reader app from the market.
Open your dialer and dial ##GPSCLRX#
When it asks for a password, enter your MSL and then your phone will reboot.

Android 3.1 Stock rooted GPS problems...

Hi to all, today i installed the 3.1 Stock ROM rooted wtih CWM and now i have the 4.010.05 COM GEN 1.
All perfect, i use it for 1 hour, but only the GPS have some problems to fix location.
With Honeycomb 3.0.1 I had the same problem but I thought that version 3.1 would solve it.
The GPS in this Tablet is a real hardware problem or software problem????
I must contact ACER to change my tablet with a new Iconia Tab A500???
Where is the problem with GPS????
Help me please.
Bye
Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152318
A few seconds of actually scrolling down the forum page would have found you this...
I applied this update last night and had the same gps issue.
FYI, Although root is there, busybox is not....
My gps fix was to install faster fix (busybox required) from the market, loaded and locked in under 10 seconds.
Everything works great so far.....
Ok i copied the HD2 file "Gps.conf" in "Europe.zip" and seem that work indoor after a Reboot in recovery and Delete Cache and Delete Dalvik Cache.
This evening I test in car with Sygic and i tell if work.
My Iconia A500 has rooted and have Busybox and CMW.
I must use Faster Fix or not????
Thanks.
P.S.
The GPS problems is a software issue not an corrupt hardware module, it's right?

Since fasterfix simply replaces your existing gps.conf, you can always roll back to your existing if you have a copy. I would give it a try, cant hurt.
Ok this evening i try Iconia A500 in my car witg Sygic Gps Navigation.
The fix work but the signal isnt constant and sometimes it lost position and fix after few seconds, i dont know why!!!!!!
Now at my home outdoor the fix is slow after 3 hours without gps activity, Google Maps at start show me a wrong position, it give me the position of my parents house, why???
It's normal?
My Nexus one is more quickly and stable of this Gps and i think that this Tablet isnt a good solution for car navigation.
Any suggestions to solve my Gps problems???
Thanks

Yes, Sygic is my GPS app of choice as well, and this works with the newer releases.
About the gps i can confirm that while i was running virtous rom asus based 1.08 my gps was blazing fast I mean 10 found 10 fixed on gps essentials.. now with stock rom i still get a fix within 30 seconds but i only see 5 or 6 sats and lock on 2 or 3 so ..i would assume software is the problem or some app interferes with gps ....
I decided to use the solution of daveid and work perfectly in car.
One only thing, i must set 100% of screen brightness to see it during the day with sun or there is a lot of reflections....any solutions???

Hello! I have the same problem. But I found a strange thing.
In the past when I used Froyo, GPS found my location with several satellites in use (more then 3). But now I see that it may found my location without any satellites in use. It's seems that something is broken because it's needed minimum 3 satellites to find the location.

If GPS finds your location without any satellites the only explenation is that the phone uses internet connection to find your location. Maybe that is the case.

When your wifi is on (even if you're not connected to any network) your location can be determined to about 50m about
the networks near your location. At least in Germany. I think it's maybe through the google cars which also check the wifi networks when they took pictures for street view.

Are you in flight-mode while using GPS, connected to Wifi or to mobile networks (2G,3G)?
I use GPS mostly in flight-mode, and it still takes some minutes (5-10) to get a fix. Even with updated AGPS-data, but with no internet connection (afterwards, waiting for the fix).
Maybe you can show me your gps.conf from the /etc/ folder?
