I cannot get the GPS to work correctly on any ROM that I flash. It either never finds the GPS and says searching for signal or finds it and cuts out really quick and gets stuck on searching for signal.
Ever thought its a hardware problem and not software?

Which ROMs are you flashing? The only one I've had trouble with GPS has been CyanogenMod, but it's a known issue there that the GPS doesn't work right.

Download GPS status from the market. Hit menu then select tools. Open manage agps state. Click clear data. Then download agps data. See if you get a lock then.

If that doesn't work, then try the CM7 GPS fix.
First make sure you are on a Sense ROM.
Get your MSL using the MSL reader app from the market.
Open your dialer and dial ##GPSCLRX#
When it asks for a password, enter your MSL and then your phone will reboot.

This worked great for me, better than both the original fixes. Thanks for the heads up.
I was actually going to post the Auto Config tip on the original GPS fix thread. This fix works best for me. It's still flaky sometimes but it's much better than stock or the first fix.
I left in my initial settings from the first fix, and supplemented it with the auto setting from this fix. And though I leave use wireless networks disabled, I get an exact lock in about 5 seconds now!
now if only we could fix the compass...

NP guys
I was just playing with the settings and found that this worked great so I made a vid.
I also turned on MS Assisted so I can get a lock indoors
So this doesn't require you to have wireless networks turned on?
this one works great...
I actually never really had a problem with gps in the first place but usually it only finds 7 satellites and this fix instantly found me 11...

1. Disable "Use Wireless Network" under Settings > Location and Security
2. Dial *#*#1472365#*#*
3. Go to SUPL/CP Settings
4. Change Custom Config to Auto Config
5. Restart phone
6. Reenable "Use Wireless Network"
Thanks, any mention of Accuracy (50 or 100) or Operation mode?
just tried those settings on my vibrant (exchanged my 1st one - this one just arrived today) and GPS was crap before the settings, and worse after the setting changes
just tried the settings and mine is even worse.
just joking, just joking OP, thanks for the tip. finally, after the first gps fix that was put out, this locked me on in my exact location, not 3 blocks away, from the start.
No change when using GPStest. But was not expecting it to.

On mine if I use Maps and Nav it works fine but if I try and use Google Buzz and then maps it does not work until I reboot.
I just stop using buzz and it work fine now, not great but fine. it's accurate to about 3 feet for me if I have it in standalone mode, if I enable MS assist it accurate to about 15 feet.

I had pretty good success with this fix too. Not perfect either, but good enough for me.

Gps will not work without a network location first. You may be able to connect to a wifi and it work, maybe.

Are you using a custom ROM, or just stock 2.1?
Probably nothing you can do. The gps hardware is not powerful enough to work without a network location.

my thoughts are...
GPS works.. but without data it has no reference.
Maps must be downloaded via some internet connection. Maybe a wifi can help u.
or
you can download a stand alone GPS map app. CoPilot is a good one, but cost $30.
Yeah, but the gps can't even find a lock without a recent network signal to tell it where to start looking. It's not a full on gps antenna.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I have been traveling around the world recently with my EVO and using the GPS to do so. It's GPS chip is no better than the Hero's I believe.
Things to keep in mind, without aGPS help, it can take these things up to 30 minutes to find your correct location. Usually it takes 4 strong signals to pinpoint it. Download GPS Status from the market and it will show you all of the satellites it is picking up as well as the strengths and you will know when you have a lock. It will also allow you to keep the phone awake and the gps active until it gets a fix. This is probably your main problem. If the phone is not actively using the gps, it turns off the chip and never gets a chance to get a fix.
You need to run GPS status preferably when you are connected to a wifi signal and outside with a clear shot of the sky. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes depending on if you are on a wifi connection, how far away you are from the last known lock stored in the chip (GPS Status will display this for you) and also how far from the equator you are, etc. If you are very far south in argentina it can be a LOT more difficult GPS to work... I noticed my GPS had waaay more trouble up in sweden than it did down in central europe.
Also, Download mapdroyd and get the maps for the area you are in. It works pretty well for a free locally stored map app. GPS Status also allows you to add pins/labels to gps coordinates and then do a radar type guidance back to them. Between these two tools and now knowing how to connect your phone, you should never get lost again, providing your battery does not die. Luckily I brought 4 extra batteries with me!
Google maps can't find my location it keeps saying temp. Unavailable therefore my weather app ( beautiful widgets) isn't working correctly either I have the official tmobile update running completely stock, I can't figure it out... my gps works fine but I'm inside a apt building surrounded by allot of trees so leaving the gps on is not a option( besides the fact that it's a battery eater) but I do have full 3G bars... any ideas cause I'm fresh out?
Did you try unchecking "Use GPS Satellites" under "settings"/"location and security"?
Yeah its already unchecked..I tried almost everything before I decided to post
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Is "use wireless networks" checked?
Basically, there are only two methods for the phone to know where it is: The "Use wireless networks" method, which enables a coarse tower-based estimate, or the more precise fix by enabling the GPS. If both are disabled, there is no way for Google Maps or any other app to know where you are. Dunno which of these two values Beautiful Widgets is looking for.
Set yr beautiful Widget to a fixed place,
Or use wireless location
Wireless network is checked. This is not a beautiful widget problem but rather a google maps or location problem its showing that I'm at a place I was two days ago and when I try to go into maps and hit the find my location button it says location temporarily unavailable

Yes sometime the Google map remember yr old location, just uncheck both wireless and GPS and go into Google map again can erase that record
For the temp unavailable issue, it is yr GPS problem, did u update to the ji6? It fixed the GPS issue already
And one thing, the wireless location is a estimated location, so if u r using the 3g, it estimated the big area of yr 3g signal ( don't exactly know how to say)
but if u r using Wi-Fi, the estimated is based on yr Mac address so it is more accurate coz it knows where yr router is
Well my gps is fine I don't use it indoors because I live in a apt (no signal outdoors its fine) so its off and I have wireless checked so it uses tmobile 3g network to find my location.... and I have the update I guess I'm a anomaly

The GPS for the LG GT540 is only supported for UK and US. As I live in New Zealand, it doesn't work for me unless I use the mod.
If you do live in those regions, see if it is receiving enough signal for it to make an assumption of the location. Wi-fi or cellular data makes the location more accurate.

So does the installation of RC4 reduce the accuracy or does it fully disable your access to GPS?

After a long time (1 day) with the mobile switched on the GPS doesn't work, with any app, google maps, gps status or runtastic, I wait for the GPS fix status but the GPS system doesn't detect any satellite. Only few times works properly.
When it doesn't work I need to make a long batch to make it work, switch GPS off, run "fasterboot", run "GPS fix", switch GPS on, reboot and try it again... after this process some times works, and some times not... so I need to repeat the process until it works and it's a desperate situation.
Any idea?

Do you have data assisted location on? Go to --> Settings --> Location and security and then check if 'Use wireless networks' is only on. GPS will work with that on but will be less accurate that the use of an actual GPS connection. Also try it with both 'Use wireless networks' and 'Use GPS satellites' (if not already) and then try it with only 'Use GPS satellites' (to see if it actually determines location from satellites.
My GPS module seems to be also [email protected]#d up :/

I know what are you talking about... but the problem is when i'm running with runtastic software or walking with navigation the accuracy is horrible! I need that the GPS works properly, is one thing really necessary for my hobbies and job.
It doesn't work from the SwiftDroid with CM7. I read in other forums that the problem comes with CM7, but the fixes only works well with another brands of mobile phones. I'm thinking about to change to the [AOSP][v4.1] Android 2.3.5 or downgrade the Mur4ik version...

I use it sometimes of the road or while walking. I use it about once a week, but the frequency can fluctuate. I use MapDroyd. It's free on the Android Market and you can use it offline with a downloadable map.
I haven't had any real problems with the GPS and 2.3.5 although it seems to get a bit jittery occasionally (sometimes jumping up to 3 miles away from the current location) and every now and the GPS seems to shut down and restart.
I use Sygic GPS Navigation but it also happens with Google Maps as well.
Do you have or had 'Use wireless network' on. It happens to mine too. It seems like the location of which it used a data connection on is first used and then the actual location by a GPS.

Hey guys, I moved from a HTC hero to an Atrix about 4 months back and i have not been able to get even a single GPS lock. The GPS icon blinks when i start up a navigation application but it remains in the "waiting for signal" state.
I tried using the GPS Status app. It shows satellites that are available but it doesnt get locked to any. BTW, i am running an unrooted official 2.3.4 gingerbread on my phone.
Thanks in advance guys

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried resetting the aGPS data in GPS status but that didnt do the trick. Apparently, the FasterFix app requires root access while mine is unrooted. Is there any other possible work around? Could it be a hardware issue?
Not necessarily hardware. I get that on mine sometimes and I think it may be a wipe issue. Not positive though
