What the hell are you talking about????????!!!!!!!!!!
Of course it has amazing smart dialing.
Just the dialer has 4 tabs on the bottom.
First tab is number dialing only.
Just hit the contacts button in dialer, tap the search tab on top to diplay keyboard, and voila you have a great smart dialing.

If you mean being able to find a contact by spelling the name on a keypad ... then mr2 supports it ... by using the contacts soft key on the Professional layout ... it brings up a screen with the contacts on the top 3/4 ... and a key pad underneath. Typing on the keypad matches the contacts to what was typed -- both the numbers and the equivalent names ... touching the name, and you can dial it ...

thx all, special to doministry. on x1 i just started typing name right after pressing call button, but on x2 i have to switch tabs. Is there way to set up default tab on calling?

Remapping D-Pad while on Phone screens

I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

I want that too!! Like was in my Magician...
hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5
*One WM5 developer*
"I got an idea. Let's make our new phones LESS functional. That'll give us a leg up on the competition."
*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"
Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

Typing numbers using Keypad?

Hi!A silly question it may seem to be but I desperately need a solution
I slide out the keypad and I want to dial a number (make a call) ...... but I have to press the DOT button (bottom left) followed by the number keys,is there a possibility to type numbers with pressing dot button everytime?
In soft keypad its possible but not on the hardwware keypad
Pl advice..thanx a million!
I don't seem to have this issue. When I type on the number keys, it shows the numbers on the right hand of the dial box and letters on the left. I can then dial either.
Perhaps this is a function of smartdial (which I thought came on pretty much every ROM, but maybe not).

I don't seem to have that problem if I push the green button first.Slide out keyboard and dial, or slide out keyboard first, then hit the green.
My concern was not with hitting the call button and typing numbers but what if I only want to use hardware keypad rather than the soft keypad to type numbers without having to hit the bottom leftmost dot button??
ny ideas r appreciated!!!
I don't know of a way to not use the function key when inputting numbers but I thought I would mention, just on the off chance that you weren't aware, that if you have a string of numbers to key in, you don't need to press the dot for each number, just click it twice in quick succession and it locks the numbers lock on. When you have finished, just press the dot again and it takes the lock off.
I am sure you probably already knew this but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case you didn't.

Thank you very much,that solved my problem!!I never used a ppc before,,used a wm5 smartphone though....nyways,case closed!
Thankx again!
Excellent ... glad I could help
That's got me interested now - why do cbreze and I not need to press the function key at all in order to dial a number (or name) with the slide-out keyboard, but kkiran and Nicky do?
Screenshot attached from typing "yui" (which is also 123).
Are kkiran and Nicky missing SmartDial?

Hi arghness, I don't have to press the function key to dial a telephone number on my keyboard, I only need to for typing in notes, word, emails, texts etc...
I just assumed the reason kkiran couldn't do it was because he was using a different rom and didn't have the smart dial on his phone but I didn't actually check
Yeah Nicky,I downgraded to original Cingy 8525 ROM cos xda live 0.1 almost bricked my costliest investment in a mobile phone after Nokia 6600 (499$ in 2004)!!
I may try XDA Live 0.20 and hope it doesnt' disappoint me...So far,wm 6 failed to excite me...cos no interesting features - wm6 = = better skinned wm5
You are braver than me ... I daren't change my standard rom for that very reason, I am sure if I attempted it, it would be bye bye phone
I am only brave enough to try a few registry tweaks and install lots of programs ... and I did do the sim unlock on my phone, that was nervewracking enough
you sim unlocked it?wont' u void the warranty?I feel sim unlocking may benefit u only if u plan to sell the mobile or use it with another provider.
nyways, hope a generalised wm6 rom is released by providers/m$!!our hermes is by far da most popular phone,so they shud honor us!!

Yes, I think it may void the warranty but I have another phone contract on a different network and I really did not want to carry two phones about, I just wanted to be able to swap the sims over occasionally to check for texts etc.. so I took the chance.
My first Vario II developed the screen alignment problem and was returned under warranty months ago and I had also unlocked that one. I didn't mention that it was unlocked and they never mentioned anything so I guess I was lucky.

Phone App - numeric keypad & contacts

My Tytn was replaced under insurance after loss.
When in the phone app, pressing numeric keys used to enter the number but also showed matching contacts containing the sequence of alpha characters from the keys pressed.
The firmware in the new phone is different, and the phone app doesn't support this feature any more. Typing numeric keys simply enters the number. The only way to find a contact is to enter the contact list and select manually.
The new ROM is 2.07.161.1 with WM5.0 5.1.461 (Build 15671.3.3.0).
Can anyone cast any light on how to re-enable the alpha search feature in the phone app?
Thanks in anticipation!
Sounds like you're referring to PhonePad app?
There are CAB's for the PhonePad app on the XDA FTP server - your best bet is to do some serious searching as there have been issues reported using PhonePad with other 3rd party software.
You can download the English only version of PhonePad from >HERE<, but I'd suggest some light reading of the results of a search for "PhonePad" in the Hermes forum before you run off and install wildly
HTH,
Mark.
I think you miss smart dialing function. However this should be already implemented in your ROM. Search for smart dialer. The Phone pad application suggested above is T9 based input method, not a dialer.

Text Messaging with Dialer

I have been searching everywhere for a utility that lets you text message with the Dialer, rather than the keyboard (Sort of like a regular cell phone - where you dial 2 (for A) and 8 (for T). Something that would be used to send a text without opening the slide out keyboard or with one hand only? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try searching for the HTC Touch Keyboard and Keypad. It is the software that is used on the touch that enables a qwerty and a t9 function on your screen when typing.
http://htc-touch-keyboard.en.softonic.com/pocket
This website has it but I havent tried this software out. I have one that I download from these threads but I dont have it with me. If you still want it PM me and I will send it to you later on today if the one on the link doesnt work.
The Touch Dialer was still available and it works great.
Thank you!

Voice Dialing on Diamond2?

Hello all, I am looking at picking up a Diamond 2 variant (Probably the NextG one so I can get 850 3G), but wondered if Voice Dialing is support or included with the Diamond2 anywhere?
Also how easy is it to get to and actually do a voice dial of a contact? My Touch Cruise had voice tags assigned to whatever function or contact and that was easy enough, but it also has a hardware key for voice dialing only...The Diamond2 does not have that hardware key and so I wonder how easy it is to actually access the command and utilize it without going in several menus, etc.
voice command
Hi,
I used MSVC on 6.1 , installed it on 6.5 , working well no probs.
Did it come with VC then? Or did you have to use a cooked ROM to get it, or did you buy it?
How easy is it to us VC once installed...can you assign a button to voice dialing, or is it an icon you can have on your Home screen readily accessible?
I am using only cooked ROMs and can confirm that on most of them (WM6.1 or WM6.5) Cyberon VSD is working perfect. You can either run Cyberon VSD from the left hard key or from the BT headset's button.
What is the "left hard key" exactly?

The send button which you use to answer a phone.
The retail version of Cyberon Voice Commander (not VSD, MSVC-like ) works great on Diamond 2. It supports BT button, and you can set dialing key or volume-up/volume-down keys as hardkey from its Settings.
You can download this version from Cyberon's website.
If you search this forum for "cyberon voice dialer" you'll find a cab that fits for you.
