I am in Canada, so my EVO 4G does not work (no Sprint) - how can I "flash" my EVO 4G to Bell, a Canadian CDMA carrier with the same bands as Sprint?
Good luck.
You should be able to roam if yours is the IO phone with the free service.
If you want to use it on another CDMA carrier you need them to have a PRL which has to be on your phone and the ESN needs to be in their DMD (device management database). Am I forgetting anything? I swear I am forgetting something.
So, good luck.

I actually am currently roaming. This is obviously not a long-term solution, because if I was paying for it, the bill would be a few hundred dollars!
I do not know of a way to do this but I do believe that Sprint's Roaming on the Everything pans are free.
DOMESTIC roaming is free. International can be quite expensive.
evo flashing
it can be flashed here in the us to cricket and metropcs, so im sure it can be done for bell as well
Would love to see this flashed to verizon?havin the hd2 on gsm. And the evo on cdma.untouchable.
I doubt it would ever be flashed to Verizon. Verizon would have to allow the ESN into their database, and they just recently locked it down to no longer allow ESN's from other carriers (started with the Touch Pro, I believe) into their database. I'm not sure about Telus' policy on that, but I'm pretty sure if they did allow the ESN onto their database, all you would need to do is load their PRL and you may also have to manually program it, if it can't auto-provision itself...
there are ways to swap your esn. i am not sure about the legality in canada, but i've been led to believe it's illegal in the us. if you had a valid esn in your network, you may be able to swap the esn on your evo to the esn of the other device.
if it's legal in your country.

How can it be flashed to cricket?? I've asked everywhere but no one's pointed me in the right direction yet..
first things first
First you have to see if "EPST" works on android. I know how to do it on winmo, but i don't have an android. if you can get into your EPST you need to know your "MSL" your 6 digit Master Security Lock code. Then you have to change your radio settings. To get to into epst on Winmo you have to dial ##3424# or something like that. Good luck.
Answer
Hello, you can find your answer on my "What is the equivalent of WInMo EPST on Android?" thread.

Actually it can be flashed to both metro and cricket. there's someone selling a solution at mobilefiles
Go to Development thread...there's a download to enable moving to Verizon . Need to get your MSL code from Sprint....tricky one.
Sprint had crap signal in Iowa...switched to full bar Verizon all weekend.
to flash to cricket, load a cricket prl on to the phone, then get them to activate the esn... theres plenty of info on this, google is your best friend for this
I have a Hero currently and would love a faster phone. The EVO is ok but too big for me. I would prefer the Incredible.
I know i can buy one for about $600 price does not matter. However I can not leave sprint. is there anyway known way to get the Incredible to work on sprint with full internet/MMS?
Just to be clear I DONT WANT THE EVO. I want the Incredible. ;-D
Please stay on topic. Im not looking for phone advice.
Thanks in advance!
No. Sprint won't add any ESNs that aren't native to their network.

getting them to register the esn is not an issue.
I would venture to say that if getting sprint to register the esn, your next task would be to flash a sprint prl.
Other than that I would imagine the phone will function with the currently available roms.

I would also need mms settings and internet settings and perhaps apn settings. I know nothing about how to do this yet.

Of course it is possible and not really that difficult although it does take a few hours to figure it out.
You will have to google for info and it will be scattered throughout the forums.
Good luck!
So if I copy all the NAM1 Settings with something like QPST from my hero And find a way to get them to use the new ESN/MEID Ill be golden..
I guess its time to talk to the Sprint rep.
Why can't you leave sprint? Might be cheaper to just pay the etf ($250 I think, or less depending on how far you are into it), and get the incredible at $200 on contract with VZ instead of the $600 for the incredible to put on sprint.
Welp
If you can stomach Sprint, then grab an EVO 4G and be done with it.
How I miss the days when you could use other cdma phones in vzw (not that i knew how to do it personally, but what are friends for?). Lucky you if youhave someone who will clear the esn for you. If i had connect like that at Verizon I'd totally have an EVO right now

I would Like to Do this also
I want to run an Incredible on sprint also... I am thinking about wiping the Incredible's ESN and replacing it with my Hero's ESN. If I accomplish this then do I also have to flash the PRI on the Incredible ?
Thanks,
Jay
I have an Incredible running flawlessly in Mexico, with Iusacell. It took me probably 5 minutes to get it running, following a Hero guide. You just have to dial ##PROGRAM and input all the changes there, the Incredible has no settings locked down.
I don't know if replacing the MEID(ESN) of the Inc is currently possible, you should check with the CDMA Workshop guys...
Has this been accomplished?
Has this been accomplished yet? I am interested in this as well. Perhaps we can get some steps? I know I don't want to get the EVO for two reasons: 1) the Incredible has an awesome form factor 2) I don't want to pay the extra $10 for 4G when I can't use it/don't need it.
This can be done, like "lamerto" I also have an incredible fully working on the Iusacell network(Mexico) and maybe the most difficult thing to do on this case is activate the meid on sprint(on Iusacell this things are easy) and maybe get the prl (in my case I can even download OTA way)
so the all the rest is a piece of cake, you have a hero, so you only have to read it with qpst, save or just copy all the parameters and then write it to the incredible (even the drivers are the same) and the only thing that is different is the meid (guessing that you're going to use the line that you have on the hero, on the dinc)
that's all this way you can have an incredible working on sprint(maybe you have to copy the mms parameters later, but that can be done even from the phone)
greetings
PD: sorry for my bad english
awesome thread. couple of guys on #htc-evo on freenode
have recommended the hong kong batteries.
I mean really, sprint batteries originate from that part of the world
anyway
luckily i have a spare 1500 battery (official) anyway. need a charger
solution though.
HTC Knight sounds like the Option...
I apologize if this has been covered, I didn't find anything in a quick search. A buddy was asking about flashing his Evo to Verizon. I saw a few youtube videos showing results but haven't found a process.

Sim unlock? You could call Verizon customer care or a store and ask if nobody on here knows, I assume it would work but have never heard of anyone doing it.
I dont think so.
You can have your evo run off of verizon's towers with a prl hack
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO
There's no legal way to do it.
You would have to fake your esn number and such.

Both vzw and sprint use CDMA... no simcards involved.
To OP: No, verizon requires the ESN to be already present on their database (same way as sprint) before activating the device.
The process is likely the same as it is to get the evo to work on boost, cricket, or other cdma providers.
I haven't done this personally, nor do I know anyone who has, but in theory, it seems like it should.

Boost is owned by Sprint so it makes some sense that you could cross those phones.
Not sure about cricket but it's my guess that they don't lock down their esns.
The only way I've ever heard of using a Sprint/Verizon phone on either network is with esn spoofing and it's not legal, at all.
Until carriers allow other phones ont heir networks it's a no-go. Except as said above by changing ESN (illegal) or having one hell of an inside connection. The ESN would have to be added to their database of accepted devices. Like I said...a hell of an inside connection would be needed.
You said it bro! Spoof was the word I was looking for. Will require a donor phone though on the network you want to use it on.

It's not illegal to change your ESN as long as you are paying for the fees. The legality comes in when you try to clone ESN in order to avoid fees.
But even if OP were to clone the ESN, the frequency's don't really match and would have problems working
And if this was remotely feasible, I'd have a Verizon iPhone 4 on Sprint right now.

Its kinda the culture of XDA.
And to be completely honest its encouraged by the rules, or lack there of.
I'm more than likely posting this in the wrong section but it regards to an EVO so I apologize in advance....
Would it be possible to flash a Sprint EVO onto verizons network I want the EVO I looked into the thunderbolt and I think its nothing but garbage just my opinion, I had it for 10 days and it was so bad I went and returned it and went back to my incredible since I don't have 4g in North Dakota it would be an issue I got my MSL code from Verizon. I've seen the EVO on boost and pageplus unfortunately I only have IDEN coverage for boost no cdma or I would just go that route. So would this be possible??? I know there are sites claiming they have the files that will make it work but I'd rather not pay for something that might not work. I know what your thinking why not just switch to Sprint well we don't have coverage here. So my choices are Verizon, AT&T, & Nextel. Nextel is out of the question for the fact I believe its still completely IDEN which means not smartphones except for a blackberry and there is no way I will switch to a blackberry I had a hard time switching from winmo 6.5 to android.

Ugh... That's what I came across in my six hours of searching, but didn't they pass a law in 2006 that made it legal to switch carriers and flash it, since its your device you paid for it you should be able to do with it as you please within reason of course, also would it make a difference if the esn/meid is clean?
I mentioned pageplus in my op its a prepaid company owned by (Verizon) the evil V as I call it lol I know they got it boost which is as we all know is a prepaid company of Sprint which is seeming more and more like the best of the "big 4" soon to be the "big 3"

It is legal to do so, but the carrier has to approve the device and one big thing that won't be approved is the Sprint logo on the front of the device. Also I could be wrong, but for basic network coverage not counting Wimax since Verizon doesn't use Wimax, I believe Sprint and Verizon use different frequencies but I could be wrong.
There was a time when Sprint announced that they will activate any Verizon phone on their network. I can't remember if Verizon sued them, or if Sprint backed out. It was a very huge deal.

that's for their "4G", not the CDMA 1x/EvDO spectrum
Ah, that's true, I totally blanked on the fact that he doesn't have 4g coverage anyway and that issue isn't on the table
Thanks for all the input guys, maybe I can find a friend of mine that happens to have an EVO they would be willing to let me borrow to try this out on, and update prl and everything else and see if I can get to VZW ota programming prompt and if I can get that far, I should be close to in the clear see if I goes through completely or somehow rewrite the esn/meid's which probably isn't legal but I'm sure can be done lol, and browsing around early this morning I found out I can get page plus coverage haha but I refuse to give up my unlimited data, I know there is a way to flash it to them though.. but thank you again for all the input

Yeah but that's data roaming, little different.
It's possible just a few things you need:
1) Verizon has to approve it for their network
2) You would need your number AND your MIN as well as your cellular email address: it would be something like your10digit [email protected] verizon has for .com
3)Your MSL so you can program the phone for verizon (if you're rooted, MSL Reader from the Market will get that for you)
4)Verizon PRL
My evo is programed for cricket. AND the Evo can be programmed for boost. I went with cricket because there is no grey area there. Just program my phone for cricket, call them up and have them add my Evo's ESN.
Cricket was more than willing to give me the information I needed (MIN is the only thing I needed from them) and I got someone (who i guess works for cricket, one of those cricket forums) to add my ESN to my account. (you don't even have to change the radios, just change the PRL)
I look at it like this, Verizon takes a loss on every phone sold. Well every postpaid carrier does. So I would think they would jump at the chance for you to save them some money while spending money with them in the process.
How would I get them to accept the esn and accept the EVO for their service? I'm on a prepaid account now so I would be paying retail anyway...

Google how to do it with the Epic 4G...thats how I go mine on Boost. There is a youtube video and a section here on XDA in the Epic android development section on how to get data working on the Epic on boost mobile. It works for the NS4G..trust me..
as mentioned above.. its the exact same method as epic. tho the code to put the phone in diag mode is different. *#*#DIAG#*#*
now i just wish we could edit wimax settings. :/

there are no RSA keys in the nexus s. thats htc stuff. its the mac address that gets put into the system. and the ppl getting 4g via other means dont have it activated on sprint.. theyve edited the mac address to one that is valid. HOW they edited the mac is my question.
*edit*
i will agree partly with what lancerEVA has stated.. some phones have previously been activated and kinda got lost in the system for now. but i still stick with my original message... there are people that are editing the mac address manually.
on the epic this was possible using the wimax debug menus. these menus have been removed on the nexus.
Why would anyone want to use a Nexus S 4G phone on Boost? Boost Mobile consists entirely of iDENT which is totally incompatible with the Nexus S 4G. Boost phones that use CDMA just use the Sprint towers anyways so there would be no difference in coverage. Boost Mobile has never, ever had CDMA towers of their own. Also, iDENT is vastly inferior to CDMA in every way. iDENT is just TDMA with a few "enhancements" like AT&T's old network used to be.

Yea your right...the coverage is the same....I get the same ho-hum 3G speeds with Boost as I do Sprint except I'm paying $45 for unlimited everything because of the shrinkage plan with Boost. What are you talking about Boost has never, ever had a tower of there own? Hey "techguy"...do you realize there owned by Sprint?...and by the way, when you say iDENT are you referring to iDEN? They have CDMA and iDEN networks and the Nexus will run off of the CDMA network like on Sprint because it is Sprint...get it?

exactly.. people use sprint phones on boost for the best of both worlds. virgin is also a great candidate.. the $25 plan is pretty nice. tho i did just read that virgin will be getting rid of unlimited data.. well.. throttling after 2.5GB I believe. regardless.. 2 great options besides Sprint.. which is a great option compared to the other US carriers. win/win/win.
I will be getting my NS4G in the mail soon. I would love to do the flashing myself, but still looking for a guide. I have the guide on how to flash the EVO tho.
Is it safe to do software upgrades on the phone when I get it? And if I do any software upgrade after I get it flashed, will I lose my 3g or mms?
