Hello, although I have searched a bit to find a solution in XDA, I have not been successful. What I am looking for is a way to show Opera 10 (I installed after HD2 purchase) thumbnails in the Internet section of the Sense UI. Although I can store the favorites, no thumbnails show (I do not use Internet Explorer at all). Is there a registry entry to change? Any parameter in Sense UI?
ROM is stock 1.66 WWE.
- Dimi
What i remember about this.
I'm not 100% sure, but try this. I have the feeling it's what worked for me.
Open the site you want a thumbnail for from within Opera.
With that still open, add the URL to the quicklink on the Sense UI.
Close Opera.
Click the quicklink on the Sense UI.
I think that's the way I did it, and I have thumbnails. They don't update though.
doesn't work
Sense doesn't update the thumbnails from opera10, only from opera9 or Internet explorer.
As indicated above, open opera9 (which is on a stock rom by default), navigate to the pages on your quicklinks, let the page(s) load completely, then you'll find the thumbnail will have updated.

im using chiese tp2 with tf3d, over here we have opera originaly come with my tp2 however, i can only open 2 tabs, one is first page and one more after that. my job needs to be using more tabs that HTC gave to us (2 tabs only) i normally needed 4~ 6 different tabs, therefore, im wondering that if there is anyone know how to unlock this "tab problem"
i have already tried to adjest the "max allowable" in opera:config, but wnehever i tried that still i can only open 2 tabs.
i really need to have this function to be unlocked, and please help me
There was a thread around here that contains the exact solution to your problem.
Solution
type in the browser "opera:config" without the quotes, scroll down to "User Prefs" and click on it. scroll though that list till you get to "Max Allowed tabs". i changed mine to 15, I dont recommend changing it to 100 and then trying to open 100 pages. My pc has firefox and ive only had to use a max of 25 tabs
Sprint TP2
I have tried this time & again to no avail. Am i doing something wrong?
you may already know this but you have to scroll down to the end of the user pref. section and click the save button after you change the setting.
mylok, yeah had done that already. no such luck.
The reason it won't work for you is because of push internet. Opera is always running in the background. That's why the changes you make in opera:config won't stick.
2 ways to go about it:
-disable push internet and stop Opera from running. You can't do this from the GUI. See here for details.
-or you can edit the opera.ini file directly with a text editor. This is actually quite easy. Save the file to your desktop and open it with notepad. It's very easy to figure out what you need to edit. Open it and try. Then overwrite the original file. (it's found under "\windows\opera9\")

Did anyone try it on the HD2?
ooh thanks for the tip, downloading and trying now.
First impression: Wow it loads up quick. Probably at least 1 third of the time of 9.5
It uses HTC keyboard rather than the Opera one as in Mini 5.
Just tested loading engadget on 10 and 9.5 and they came out about the same, around 16 sec on low strength wifi connection.
Tried testing a few sites and if anything 10 might be slightly slower at downloading and rendering, only by a second though and I might not be timing that accurately. Overall though it's much faster to load so one benefit there.
Note: Just realised I've been doing above tests with Opera Turbo off. doh. Re-testing with new sites now.
OK, with turbo on, thinkbroadband.com loads just under 5 seconds on Opera 10 and on 9.5 it's just under 9 seconds.

Thank you for letting us know. It looks promising.
Does multitouch work naturally like in original 9.7 version included in hd2?
What I mean is, does the multitouch gesture zoom in the web page (enlarging the textsize etc) or does it zoom in the window (like non-supported applications manually added through registry)?
Thank you.
I think it's 9.5 included with HD2, but no, the multitouch isn't working in 10 beta.
Also need to find a way to replace it as the default browser...
Edit: Updated tests above with turbo on
Edit 2, I was wrong, it is 9.7 sorry.
No auto-rotation like in 9.7 either.
Another noticeable difference is the page updates way quicker. E.g. browsing my rememberthemilk.com tasks page on 9.7, there's a lot of the checked pattern when swiping around the page. On 10 there is none at all.
@ Biffy
Thank you for your quick response.
Is the executable named as "OperaL.exe"?
If not, did you try to rename it? This might restore multitouch gestures and auto-rotation
Will check the OperaL.exe, but won't I need to move it to the overwrite the default folder maybe?
Also tried swiping around engadget.com, in 9.7 it's not hard to get a bit of the checker pattern even after the page is loaded. On 10 I can't seem to get any and think it may be smoother overall too.
Edit: Renamed exe to OperaL.exe but now no pages seem to load...
It's nice to see the tab limit has been increased from the tiny amount on 9.7
I'm not sure if this new version will be work good with our htc hd2... because the opera version by default are optimised for our devices, not likely the beta version of opera.
(omg sorry for my poor english)

I don't think that it is necessary to have it in the same location. But it may be necessary for the executable to have the same filename, window name & class name (you can check the last 2 using a task manager, but the filename is the easiest to start with).
You can increase the maximum number of tabs in version 9.7.
See the tips & tricks thread or type opera:config in your opera mobile
Just trying to sort out my wifi problem, as no connections were working. Then will retry as OperaL.exe
I knew about the tabs in 9.7 but it's still nice in 10 it's better by default, one less thing to have to tweak.
My connection is working again after a reset, don't know what happened there...
Renaming to OperaL.exe hasn't changed anything. The default executable is Opera9.exe, would it be worth trying that, or something else?
Edit: Opera9.exe doesn't help either. Guess it's not going to be such a simple fix.
Got to say, I like the way the interface is heading.
Not too worried about the lack of HD2-centric optimisations, that will surely come later.
Loads fast

Thank you for trying.
Hopefully there will be a solution, so that Opera 10 will remain optimized for our device.
I think the thing I miss most is the auto-rotation. As it makes zoom un-necessary on lots of pages.
Pinch & zoom doesn't work, either auto rotate and no much differences from 9.7, better ui, opera turbo and little more.
and opera turbo loads faster yes, but it is a ****ty compressor that makes the images looks like crap.
I still with 9.7
been playing with Opera 10 this morning - FAST.
i guess you either love or hate Turbo, but I love it.
The only issue I am having is that the links from the sense browser page still open in 9.7, but 10 has made itself default for mail links, so a little muddled.
Turbo got better .. it can play animated gifs now for example (it couldn't before). But you can;t set image quality, and the default quality is very bad.
Hey folks...
I know, I know...too many random threads about the same questions...
I've searched and searched but I found a few programs that look like they do the same.
I brought an AT&T Tilt 2. I love the TF3D and I'm looking to download a quick program that allows me to use the phone in landscape or portrait when ever I feel in any menu or screen.
I've found a few choices:
Project Pulse - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588476
Gyrator - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973
Change Screen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973
I'm not sure which version is best or right for me...
To be honest...I dont' even know what version of Manilla I have...or what it is just yet.
I'm also looking for a way to remove a few of the standard programs AT&T added to this phone. When my phone is idle and I'm not touching it...it's operating at 70%. It's hurting the performance of the phone and I'm looking to lower the percentage.
I know you guys are probably going to screen: LOCK...but I've honesly searched a ton for answers.
Thank you much,
Manila is TouchFLO 3D aka HTC Sense aka TF3D, the thing with the flippy clock and the different tabs. If you're rockin' the AT&T default ROM, then you definitely have Manila 2.1. Project Pulse is only useful for people using Manila 2.5, since it doesn't have landscape, unlike 2.1. Project Pulse essentially is a "hacked" landscape mode for a landscape lacking Manila 2.5.
I personally use Changescreen, since it is compatible with almost any program and supports Manila. Apparently, Gyrator will work with regular programs, but won't properly rotate Manila into landscape mode. The only thing you need to remember is to remove "Manila" from the Changescreen exceptions tab, or otherwise it won't work when rotating Manila on the homescreen.
Though I haven't done any of this myself (since I'm not on the AT&T ROM anymore), there's an XDA-Wiki article (here) which details which files and registry keys should be deleted. Hope that clarifies things for you
Ahhh... I see...
So the only folks with Manilla 2.5 are those with flashed ROM's...since Manilla 2.1 is on the stock ROM?
I guess I will be downloading Changescreen and playing around with it.
I still have no idea how to remove the programs that came on the phone. I saw the link you posted...but it doesn't say how to access that screen. Do I simply plug my laptop via usb cord go through the files?
If I have to do this via computer...do I simply "delete" the files/folders?
Thanks again,
You can do it from a computer, but it's a lot easier to use File Explorer Mobile (included on your device) and navigate to the listed file locations and delete the files and folders.
For the registry entries, you can use CERegEdit (from the computer while the device is connected via USB), and there are tons of registry editors for exclusive use on the device (no computer needed). I personally use Dotfred's free multipurpose task manager for that, but there are other free options besides that, like PHM Regedit.
Thanks Dave...
I just saw that I can access all of those files with File Explorer (neat little program).
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I have 1 more question now:
On the XDA/WIKI for each program there are only 2 files. Example is below:
Glu Diner Dash 2
Files
\Program Files\Glu\Diner Dash 2 (1.5mb)
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\Diner Dash 2.lnk
------------------------------------------------------------------
Am I deleting both of those files in those two locations? Or can I just go into \Program Files\Glu\Diner Dash 2 and delete the entire folder?
When I use File Explorer, I see about 6 files in that folder...not just one.
Thanks,
You'd want to delete the whole "Diner Dash 2" folder, since you don't want that program, then you'd want to browse to \Windows\Start Menu\ and delete the appropriate .lnk file associated with the program. This will pretty much remove the program from the device, and deleting the .lnk will remove it from the start menu.
Hi guys,
is it possible to change the default Browser (T-Mobile web'n'walk [Opera9]) to self-installed Opera10?
Could not find any possibility...
thanks!
No ideas? Damn T-Mob branding. No ROM Update available
I don't have Opera 10 installed, so can't give you exact instructions, but there's an executable in the windows folder called OperaL. This is what manilla runs when you open internet explorer from the internet tab.
You need to replace that with the executable for opera 10. It's also possible that there are associated files and/or folders with Opera 10. They may or may not need to be copied into the windows folder too. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I don't have Opera 10 as I prefer to keep the ability to pinch-to-zoom.
Incidentally, this has nothing to do with T-Mobile's branding. An off-the-shelf SIM free HD2 (like mine) uses Opera 9 from the internet tab too. It just isn't branded as T-Mobiles.
Thanks for your answer.
If this would be a "normal" Opera 9, it would be OK and no Problem. But every time I'll start the Browser by clicking the icon in the internet tab, the "web and walk"-Opera-Browser asks me "Would you really go online?" and I have to tap "yes". This is really ugly and so I want to replace it by another browser - in this case opera 10.

I understand - that would get on my tats as well! If you prefer Opera 10, try the above. If you'd like to keep Opera 9, I could supply you with the exe off my phone and it may get rid of the message. Don't know for sure though.

Check "HKLM\Software\Opera\Defaults\ConnectConfirmationMsg" and set it to 0
also check "HKLM\Software\Opera\Defaults\FirstTimeConnectConfirmationMsg" and set that to 0.
Good luck!
Thanks for this registry hack, but both of them are set to 0 by default. very ugly.
@johncmolyneux thanks, but my colleague has a hd2, too, but unbranded. he will send me his operal.exe and then we'll test if it's running.
It's pretty easy to bypass the MessageBox. The Opera (or Web'n Walk) Shortcut in the startmenu points not to \windows\OperaL.exe but \windows\BrandedBrowser.exe... so simply edit the shortcut located in \windows\startmenü\programme with totalcommander or something.
As Far as the Internet Tab in Manila goes... i don't have a clue. i searched the registry, searched several xml files in \windows....
YES, DID IT!
Thank you, operative1.
I've searched the registry for "BrandedBrowser" and:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\UseBrandedBrowser set from 1 to 0 and look - Opera10 is opening. Now i just have to change the Icon - but at the moment i'm really happy that the Shortcut is right!
Thank you all guys!
Great. Looking long time for it.
Thanks a lot.
idephili
THANK YOU! It fit's!
No hack/edit needed!
If you open Opera 9 and go to Menu/Settings/Advanced and uncheck Set Opera as default browser then exit. When you install Opera 10 it asks at that time if you'd like to set it as your default browser select yes and your done. No registry hacks or anything else needed.
Opera 9.5 cam preloaded on my Pure and i want to upgrade to Opera 10. i've searched the forums for solutions however everything points to manual removal via registry which i'm too lazy to want to go through. can anyone suggest an alternative method please?
It can't be removed it is Cooked into the Rom the phone came with, you could remove the registry entries for it, but they will be overwriten with those of Opera 10 when you install that.
Install 10 and forget about 9, it will still be there on the phone, but internet related 'stuff' will use 10 (as long as you set it to default on installation), only if you uninstalled 10 will you use 9 again, although in my experience the default browser becomes IE, then you'd need to edit the reg to change the default to Opera 9.
Opera preloaded into RAM. Instantly loads when you click ICON
I had the Pure for less than a month before the volume down HW button went soft and the metal grill over the earpiece became discolored black mostly but a gradient oil rainbow or oxidizing copper effect to it (probably from oils from the skin). The Pure's default Opera was preloaded into RAM and therefore it was like instant start up. Does Anyone know how to enable this? I currently use a Tilt2 (Rhodium, aka TP2, etc.) and would love to have opera preloaded. I am running NRGz LEO with 6.5.3 and Sense 2.5 Dec 31st release.
As for removing it I agree with the guy above me who says you should probably just leave it on. I would either disable the old browser or enable the new one to work with the TouchFlo3D or Sense Internet tab, otherwise you are consuming unessicary resources (few megs of RAM). I never use these feature because I have shortcuts in Sense directly to my browsers. The newest SkyFire comes in handy for heavily Flash laden sites.
If you really want to get rid of it, flash over to another ROM that doesn't have it cooked in. Get rid of all that AT&T bloatware. NRGZ28 helped me pimp out my Tilt2 and get rid of the AT&T bloat. Or if you want to do it on your own:
1): Backup your settings however you like.
2): Hard reset phone
3): Cancel the AT&T UC (User Customization) Startup installation
4): Customize your settings for everything you like
5): Create your own UC after you have everything how you like: Start with the basics of just lining up your cab's to be installed after flashing a new rom, and then creating a XML settings file to modify registry entries and the like. Follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1902590#post1902590
More info on UC here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=560371&highlight=User+Customization
Or if you don't want to do it yourself, there are people who have ripped and dumbed your default ROM and took out the AT&T bloat and then repackaged them. Some Devices have startup screens and radios and everything. Let me know if you have trouble finding the Cleaned up AT&T ROM dumps although most of these will have Opera still in there. Some of them already have updated Opera.
I mention all of this because you ask about opera but really all your software could use an upgrade if you are running any AT&T build.
