Hey folks...
I know, I know...too many random threads about the same questions...
I've searched and searched but I found a few programs that look like they do the same.
I brought an AT&T Tilt 2. I love the TF3D and I'm looking to download a quick program that allows me to use the phone in landscape or portrait when ever I feel in any menu or screen.
I've found a few choices:
Project Pulse - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588476
Gyrator - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973
Change Screen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973
I'm not sure which version is best or right for me...
To be honest...I dont' even know what version of Manilla I have...or what it is just yet.
I'm also looking for a way to remove a few of the standard programs AT&T added to this phone. When my phone is idle and I'm not touching it...it's operating at 70%. It's hurting the performance of the phone and I'm looking to lower the percentage.
I know you guys are probably going to screen: LOCK...but I've honesly searched a ton for answers.
Thank you much,
Manila is TouchFLO 3D aka HTC Sense aka TF3D, the thing with the flippy clock and the different tabs. If you're rockin' the AT&T default ROM, then you definitely have Manila 2.1. Project Pulse is only useful for people using Manila 2.5, since it doesn't have landscape, unlike 2.1. Project Pulse essentially is a "hacked" landscape mode for a landscape lacking Manila 2.5.
I personally use Changescreen, since it is compatible with almost any program and supports Manila. Apparently, Gyrator will work with regular programs, but won't properly rotate Manila into landscape mode. The only thing you need to remember is to remove "Manila" from the Changescreen exceptions tab, or otherwise it won't work when rotating Manila on the homescreen.
Though I haven't done any of this myself (since I'm not on the AT&T ROM anymore), there's an XDA-Wiki article (here) which details which files and registry keys should be deleted. Hope that clarifies things for you
Ahhh... I see...
So the only folks with Manilla 2.5 are those with flashed ROM's...since Manilla 2.1 is on the stock ROM?
I guess I will be downloading Changescreen and playing around with it.
I still have no idea how to remove the programs that came on the phone. I saw the link you posted...but it doesn't say how to access that screen. Do I simply plug my laptop via usb cord go through the files?
If I have to do this via computer...do I simply "delete" the files/folders?
Thanks again,
You can do it from a computer, but it's a lot easier to use File Explorer Mobile (included on your device) and navigate to the listed file locations and delete the files and folders.
For the registry entries, you can use CERegEdit (from the computer while the device is connected via USB), and there are tons of registry editors for exclusive use on the device (no computer needed). I personally use Dotfred's free multipurpose task manager for that, but there are other free options besides that, like PHM Regedit.
Thanks Dave...
I just saw that I can access all of those files with File Explorer (neat little program).
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I have 1 more question now:
On the XDA/WIKI for each program there are only 2 files. Example is below:
Glu Diner Dash 2
Files
\Program Files\Glu\Diner Dash 2 (1.5mb)
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\Diner Dash 2.lnk
------------------------------------------------------------------
Am I deleting both of those files in those two locations? Or can I just go into \Program Files\Glu\Diner Dash 2 and delete the entire folder?
When I use File Explorer, I see about 6 files in that folder...not just one.
Thanks,
You'd want to delete the whole "Diner Dash 2" folder, since you don't want that program, then you'd want to browse to \Windows\Start Menu\ and delete the appropriate .lnk file associated with the program. This will pretty much remove the program from the device, and deleting the .lnk will remove it from the start menu.

Darky has given you a good link. Like me you're new to WAD and I found the following guide to WAD very useful in getting started.

Mike
Thanks for the link... it's very usefull. i will start to learn how to make my own skin but....
in the meanwhile i'd like to use some skin found on the forum.
i have downloaded it (for example Vistabetatwo). unpacked and copied in the
SD, set in wisbar the directory and in the theme page i can find it.
selected, but the only things changed are the upper and bottom bar.... and where are all the object on the desktop? the link? the meter?
in the preview image there so many things....
where am I making mistakes?
Thnaks
some might be from other programs like spb pocketplus /spb diary / pocket pc phone alarm ..etc, also to customize what's on your today screen go to star/settings/today/items and choose them from there

Not sure I agree with you. Yes it is a bit finicky to work out and it does help to know your way around basic directories and file structures but from knowing nothing about it two days ago I now have 5 today screens all looking different all with different plug ins and buttons set up to move from one page to another. Where I do agree is, that this is a Hermes board and not a general one and perhaps we don't want to clog it up with non hermes specific issues? There is plenty of help\ on other sites for WAD as shown in above posts.
I would say in relation to hermes that WAD is very useful due to its provision of multiple Today screens as hermes has a relatively small screen to fit all those lovely plugins. Also I was concerned it would really slow up my TyTn with all these pages and plugins but actually having the plugins on seperate pages rather than all on one has speeded up the device! I think the real advanced users like vijay for example probably write their own code/programmes for this sort of thing.
My advice with all these things is give it a try and see where you get to, just back-up what you can before starting and go for it - that's the joy of having the hermes in the first place - unless you're a business user in which case don't tell the boss!!

The point of Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Advance Desktop is that you can set them up and customise them and so you have to hunt down a nice theme download it / unzip and place it on your device in suitable directories. These do not in my experience come in nice exe or cab files but are files you put directly into the folders WA and WAD looks for it's themes. The following link has the popular Windows vista theme:
http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11182
Download the qvga skin package. (can download the icons and wallpapers as well for later use.)
When you unzip there will be a lot of folders the most essential ones to put in your Wisbar Themes folder on your device are the ones named Windows Vista WA2, Windows Vista WAD, and Windows Vista Media Player.
The themes folder is likely to be on device or storage card in programme files>lakeridge>wisbar advance>Themes. Drop the files in there. Go to WA settings>my theme page and hopefully the theme will show up for you to select, If not you need to go to WA >settings>programme directories and tell it where to find the new files.
Sadly no programme that just does it all for you and as darky pointed out some of the fancy stuff on today screens posted in the forums:darkysome might be from other programs like spb pocketplus /spb diary / pocket pc phone alarm ..etc, also to customize what's on your today screen go to star/settings/today/items and choose them from there
So the look is coming from many different features all running together.
Cheers
Mike

This may take some time to explain. (a good general guide is the WAD.Doc link shown earlier).
1. Be sure Advance Desktop is active - go to windows symbol and give it a long press. This brings up a menu. Select Settings. Click arrow beside My Theme, this brings up another menu select plugins at the bottom, an item "Desktop" should appear and be ticked. (If not Wisbar Advance Desktop is not installed properly).
2. Get back to Desktop. Long Press on a free area on the desktop and a menu should appear. Select "new" (we'll add a RAM Meter) so select "meter". A screen appears, use drop down box at top of screen and select "Memory RAM". Leave storage set to "My Device".
3. In the Path to image box you must enter the path to an image. (If you downloaded the Icons file along with the vista theme and saved them on your device/storage card then use gray box on right to find your way tothe folder and select a nice icon. If you did not put the icons folder on your device then just use the gray box followed by down arrow top right to go to the My Device> "Windows" folder. A lot of icons should then appear. Pick one - (doesn't matter which one it's just so you see how it works), and click ok. Pressing ok again takes you back to desktop and your meter should be there. You can drag it to a suitable place.
It's very much the same procedure for adding new shortcuts other meters, new desktop pages etc. With practice you can change to new wallpapers font sizes etc etc.
Enough for now.
Mike
I know hot to build virtual pages, dock, and meter... but i'm not looking for guides to build my own theme but i'd like to download theme just done!
so i have only to copy files into the device; the wa2 folder and the wad folder,
but i need that in the wad folder there is the skin file that i can load throught ther theme manager
thanks
I just flashed my phone with NFSFAN's Custom rom there are no predefine programs under the program list. I want to add GPS toggle and Igo8 icon that's installed on my storage card for easier access but I can't browse to it. Seems I can only add what's installed under Windows/Programs
To the best of my knowledge your problem is a generic one that has nothing to do with NFSFAN's ROM.
Everytime you flash a new ROM, generic or custom it wipes clean your windows start menu ( to "factory" state)
The programs installed on your SD card are still there, your just missing the shortcuts.
1. Use a file explorer of your choice and navigate to storage card/program files and all your installed programs should be there inside folders. The rest applies to the generic File explorer that comes with windows but any other program should be similiar.
2. go into a program folder, find the exe for the program (it's usually the one with the icon for the program). right click it with your stylus and select copy.
3. Next select menu (lower right soft key), under edit select "Paste shortcut"
4. Right click the shortcut, select either "cut" or "copy" (hint: using copy and leaving the shortcut allows you to skip the previous steps next time you flash a new ROM!!)
5. Navigate (using the up key) to Windows/start menu/program files and paste the shortcut there, for games there is a further directory. Also you can now rename the shortcut if you want.
6. Now open up the "all programs" soft key on the program tab of M2d, or select add and the program from you SD card should now be on the list.
For IGo8, I use TomTom. TT installs automatically when you insert the SD card into the ppc. After flashing a new ROM I just take my SD card out and then reinstall it. I am not sure if IGo8 works the same way or not but if the above steps prove frustrating for that, give it a shot.
It's a pain to go through this everytime you flash. It would be great if there was a tool to scan your SD card for programs and automaticaly install the proper shortcuts. There is none to the best of my knowledge. Then again, no one ever gets rewarded for being lazy.
Have fun, and if your new to this (especially flashing new ROMS), read...read...and read.
Best of luck
Wow, that's some detailed info. Thanks
I haven't tried your method yet, but I just remember that GPS toggle is actually a today plugin, NSFANS takes up the entire today screen, therefore it isn't visible.
I usually toggle my gps on before starting Igo and I get instant Sat lock.
As far as Igo8 Vs TT, I have both but I like the interface of Igo better. I don't have to reinstall anything after I flash. I just go to the Igo8 folder in my Storage card and execute the program. It runs off the storage card, there's nothing to install.
Cool, I've been meaning to try IGo myself sometime.
Not being able to use normal today plugins is a turn off for some. Only having one calendar line is another (M3d has a calendar tab). It's not NFSFANS's fault, that's Touch-flo 2d (Manila 2d). It is more a plugin itself than a whole new UI, it started on the diamond, was released on the Opal and Jade (Touch 3g) phones and ported to our devices by the devs here at XDA.
I love it personaly, it offers most users everything they need without going too deep into the actual winmo interface.....which is not to "touch" friendly.
I think a workable solution might be to see if you can put a shortcut to GPS toggle on the programs tab.
In the developement and Hacking section several devs were working on an m2d/today toggle that lets you toggle back and forth. There is also another app that tries to use the soft keys. Of course if you like M2d but need more than one prog tab, search "m2d operator tab" on this site. It is fully customizable and allows you to basically have 2 program tabs.
M2d operator tab:

If M2d proves to be not for you, I suggest using the old today screen with schens HTTC customizer in place. It's worth it's weight in gold as well. I was using it untill M2d came out.
Cheers,
well assuming you're using his newest one all you have to do is go to the program you want in the file explorer, tap and hold it, and then just tap "send shortcut to programs".
ehh, I just flashed my phone with Dette 2D v2.3 today. I'll mess with it for a few days and try something else until I find the one that feels good to me.

Don't you need to use astrogps launcher with iGO? I'm using NFS 1.25 and I need some sort of priming software for iGO and Tomtom, is there something else you are using?
I only use google maps (on my M2D search tab), and TomTom while driving.
I use no other program to prime at all.
I travel coast to coast with my job, I just use the search tab, or launch TomTom (never in the same order, sometimes only one or the other), and presto.....a fix within 10 seconds.
As I said in another thread, I was showing off my phone to my FO one day and let google maps run while we were departing Montreal. It showed us going down runway 28, turning eastbound and crossing the St. Lawrence. The only reason it quite was we were going to fast for google maps to update through the data connection. Later in cruise (at 23,000 ft) I launched TomTom, it was confused as heck (didn't know what road we were on!!!!), but it did show our proper Lat/Long (I confirmed it with the aircraft's FMS).
Been running smooth for a while, never a problem getting sats or a quick fix.
That was a helpful explanation for me too. I'm a noob and using your steps I now have Skyfire in my Start Menu. Many thanks !!!
My Start Menu is really crowded. The Custom ROM I had on my TP2 had the icons sorted into folders -- which I really liked -- so I'm trying to do that on my HD2.
Doing that through File Explorer seems tedious, however, whenever I navigate to the Start Menu folder on my PC with the phone hooked up via USB, I can't move icons into folders, I'm told I don't have the permissions.
Any fix?
Also, is there any way to get the Start Menu (and it's folders) to sort themselves like Windows Explorer typically sorts files -- folders first, files second, and after that alphabetically?
I'm using Windows Mobile 6.5.5 if it makes any difference.
Would appreciate help.
I'm not aware of any editor for the start menu I'm afraid, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.
I've tidied mine before now, but just using the method you suggested and using totaly commander. At least I could multi-select links, rather than move them 1-by-1.
Sorry mate.
Maybe i'm missing something, but I can't replicate the problem? I have just tested this, and I can quite happily browse to the windows/start menu/programs folder of my mobile from my pc, (it takes quite a while to open the windows folder, maybe 2 minutes) , then create folders and move links around without a problem. Is that what you are trying to do?
<Edit>Using windows 7 ultra, and i have the allow all programs tweak from bsb tweaks, doesn't that set the permissions in teh registry to something less controlling?
I´m looking for a tool that not only sorts the icons but also changes the registry settings for the links. That means that if you uninstall the program the start menu icon is also removed and so on...
These are my requests that I have which would actually "complete" my perfect HD2... if any members here would like to contribute some info as to how I may go about and fulfill them, then I would have much gratitude. Thanks
-Aside from the volume control that MysticGenious posted along with his taskbar, is there any other cab or registry change that will allow me to change my volume in increments of 1 as opposed to 3 bars each time? I am familiar with the paid app, but I do not want to go that route.. If mysticGenious created something that works when you use his taskbar, then I'm sure someone else has created something.
-Take the application "FootPrints" for example... Unless I have that activated on my tab screens, I am unable to create a shortcut so that I can save it on as a quicklink. This is the same with the HTC Calender App and any other tab application. If its not active in the Tab menu then the shortcuts doesn't exist. Is there a workaround? I would like to use Foot Prints, but I only want it as a quicklink, NOT as a Tab folder. I have already tried activating the tab and creating the shortcut to the quicklinks, but as soon as i removed it from the Tab Menus, it disappeared. There has got to be a way for this to happen. Cause I mean the program is there, but for some reason it only works if its active in Tabs.
-Transformers... I have tried reinstalling the Transformers cab but that didn't work. I just want to be able to click the Transformers shortcut and be able to select either 1 or 2 and then the movie instantly pops up. I have the movies saved on my sd card now, but because i moved them out of the SD card and onto my computer at one point in time, the link that connected them is no longer there. Basically I have all the components, I just need some guidance on how to make the shortcut link and work again... I'm assuming that i have to direct the file via registry editor "Total Commander" or something, I am just confused when it comes to that stuff on my HD2
and believe it or not, thats actually the only issues I have left with the phone, I'm sure that someone has a suggestion, or knows an answer... thanks a lot guys
HI, i have seen on this WM6.5 that i can't add any program (ie one thats not say google maps or one of those big companies)
i can run the program via file manager and clicking the application .exe
the phone still wont see the application as a program.
i had a jasjam before and the prgrams i am trying to add worked fine but now on 6.5 cant do this.
the only way is to run these apps, well not run but to get a short cut, is on a program like CHome but then i move away from HTC sense start up display that is nicer looking.
like i said the programs work fine, just can see them in programs.
anything that will help?
cheers
have you posted a shortcut to your windows\start menu\programs\
I'm running 6.5 and any time I have a program installed on my sd card or trying to run an .exe from the storage card (or even if the .exe is just in another folder) thats what I do and it shows in my start menu or whatever subfolder I put it in in the start menu.

Yeap, in programs folder as an .exe, other folders like goggle maps are there too. The programs still don't show or work. Should i not try and get an .cab version? since looking into this takes you into trying to understand a pda rather than a PC. The .exe files still cant be seen, i have to run them via file explorer, although now loaded a short cut via button strokes so am using that to make the task a little easier.
I ran a .cab file on another program and found it distributed files with icons and other th9ngs that seem to integrate better into the host rather than an .exe
Also been looking at all the apps these phones can have its amazing.
I have one on my phone that can change a set of traffic lights in my city!
With authorisation of course, its my job, just saying how the PDA has really started to take off. become the real modern Swiss army knife.
