I am a proud new owner of shiny new Galaxy S Vibrant. I was working on new wallpaper, and trying to resolve the issue of why my custom 960x800 wallpaper was not as sharp on my phone as it is on my desktop. That was yesterday, so today I thought I'd give it another go, but now for whatever reason, my phone wont' connect to my PC. I am running Windows 7 32Bit. I have seen all the issues others have had connecting to their PC. I have tried all suggestions from those other threads, and none work. But here's what really annoys me, each time I attempt to connect my phone to my PC I get various responses from my PC. Sometimes the PC says "installing drivers," but it fails to do so, other times in the upper right corner of the Kies window it will say "connecting device" but never does. Some times the mtp application screen on the phone flashes as it attempt to connect, other times it doesn't flash, but still say its attempting to connect. I was able to connect once today. But after disconnecting, it has gone back to not wanting to connect. I'm not even trying to connect to Kies anymore, the phone won't even get recognized as a mass storage device. I tried the phone on different USB Settings (ie. Ask On Connection, Samsung Kies, Mass Storage, etc...), also tried unmounting and mounting internal SD card (don't have external sd card) and still no success. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and rebooted PC and phone. I did the dreaded formating of the internal sd card and Even rebooted my patience, but still get no love between phone and PC. I think it's juast a matter of bad bad bad Drivers, not the Kies software itself. The driver is what makes the device and PC comunicate. I think Kies itself is ok. In a world of plug in play, what a way to put a damper on a completely otherwise beautiful mobile phone experience.
ive had some problems with kies but its always when ive flashed new firmware and my only solution was to uninstall kies then reinstall.
i dont think it should be called kies cos kies open doors and let u enter while this kies shuts the door and wont let you fooking in.
regards
Hi everyone!
I've got an Apollo (GT-i5801), and after a successful root using z4root, i can't use my phone with Kies. It worked great before root.
When i connect it to the pc, the phone is recognized as an SD card( fine!) but with Kies, the "Connecting" option stays there forever...
Any help?
Thx
Try it without sd card. you can't access your files with kies now but you can upgrade when it's time.

I've tried that way, didn't worked
i dont know if was martin tip, or an update on kies
what worked for me :
try to disconect the phone, reinstall drivers (do that after kies update, if you need to)
dont set the phone to ask on connection what to use (mass storage, kies, internet) but set it to connect directly on kies
start kies, and plug the phone
worked for me
Did you verified that USB Debugging was unchecked ? because when it's checked there is no connection possible using USB port neitherfor OS or KIES?
I am also facing the same problem with my I5801. Initially I rooted with z4root 1.1. version later I felt its because of the old version. Later I installed latest Z4root 1.3 version and re-rooted it but no use. My phone is not at all getting recognised (though I get a sound from my phone after connecting to pc but there is no option to choose KIES or Mass storage etc. It simply getting charged)
The KIES didn't recognise my phone even after connecting it to PC.
Later I tried
http://www.careace.net/2010/08/25/how-to-fix-samsung-kies-connection-problem/comment-page-5/
Though not of much use nothing happened.
Even I tried (Dial part in the below link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8667486&postcount=524
Fortunately this time my KIES recognises some unknown phone is connected but it mounts my phone in Memory card mode. Though I couldn't do much in this mode, this might help some of you to understand the problem deep enough to solve the issue. Thanks.
P.S. Though connecting to KIES is not of much use as we can back up data with some other apps but the major concern here is if in case (no hopes though) Samsung releases official firmware then we should have to use KIES to upgrade our OS version, then we will be in trouble.
After rooting with FuguRoot, Kies can't find my phone either. This seems to be a known issue but nikademus hasn't replied in his thread for some time now. Does anyone know why this happen and how to fix it? It seems a bit strange seeing how everything but the added su and busybox is stock..
Maybe some cache issue?
I can verify on that. After rooting my phone to make a backup with Titanium backup before upgrading with Kies, just to be on the safe side Kies doesnt work anymore with my galaxy3.
I tried unrooting the phone, but it did not help.
Strange thing is, that the usual information on the phone screen, saying that it is now connecting to the Kies did not show up. I did som trick like writing *#723572# (not pretty sure anymore what it realy was) and then setting it to modem and back to pda mode. Now I see the information saying on the mobile screen that it is trying to connect to samsung kies, but it still does not work.
I tried it on a virgin computer running xp sp3. I installed the newest Kies, than connected the phone, but now it says, that the connected phone is not in Kies (or Pc connect) mode, and I should change it to that. However the galaxy 3 screen says that it is definitely in Kies usb mode.
I will try later a factory reset and then an update through Kies to the latest fw. And after that a restore with Titanium backup.

Try unmounting your MicroSD card (Settings -> SD Card and Phone Storage -> Unmount SD Card) and then connect it to PC.
If you're on windows 7==> Kies, preference==> check: compatible with windows xp (service pack 3)
I am trying to upgrade to ginger bread from froyo using Kies (Phone Galaxy S I9000)
1) I am able to connect to Kies
2) It is telling me that firmware update is available
3) When I try yo back up contacts error message appears
4) It started downloading components but in background i can see device is disconnected
5) Again it starts connecting
6) It gave error message "device not responding.. To resolve this issue, reboot your device"
I repeated steps several times but same result. Any help please??
Please find screens attached
I would suggest that your first action, if there is one available, is to try upgrading via another computer. Although the latest Kies seems to work on more computers, there have been random problems with connecting phone to Kies in the past.
I have tried to upgrade my phone using a computer running XP SP3, never worked, Vista, only works with the latest Kies, and windows 7 64bit, always worked.
Hope that this is some help.
Hello I tried it in two different laptops but result is same
1) Windows XP 32 bit
2) Windows 7 64 bit
There is a long thread on the Kies/Gingerbread update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211939. You should have a look through it.
I had the same problem you're experiencing, on 3 separate computers running WIN XP. The cure was to delete the installed Samsung USB drivers (do this via the Add/Remove programs in WIN Control Panel). Reboot the PC, clean up the registry (I use Glary Utlities). Launch Kies and tell Kies to install the drivers. This worked for me.
I just got my S4 and I wanted to connect to Kies via a usb cable at work, no wifi available. So I installed KIES and connected it and I am getting the dreaded " Reconnect device in Samsung Kies (PC Mode)" and it tells me to disable usb debugging. I have verififed that PC debugging is off and reinstalled Kies but still I get the same message. My usb mode is MTP... Any suggestions? I have tried different usb ports as well with no luck. Is anyone using Kies?

Sorry I dont have a better answer but try another cable if you have one. Ive seen this be the root of the issue many times.

Thanks, the device currently comes up as a SAMSUNG SGH l537 I tried running the mini kies setup and the driver installation which oddly failed. Would you be able to give me the exact driver that yours is using. I cracked open that installer and the drivers are all there I should be able to force it to the right one.

only the first day i bought my gti 9505 lte i updated my device via kies. after i rooted my s4, i never use kies.
After connecting my device the first time to my laptop, kies recognized my phone automaticly.
If there is an update for Kies, the program should recognize your device and install the right drivers.
Kies is only installed on my laptop for sync my wife's galaxy note 2. Her phone runs stock 4.1.2.
So normally must kies install the right drivers.Even for your device.
Regards

I think having a 64bit OS in win7 might be part of the issue as well. I probably don't need kies at all but I thought it would be nice to add contacts via outlook. My contacts are all sorts of hosed up, I exported them to a csv from my atrix and imported them into outlook. The next step was to import them with Kies which I thought would be a no brainer. oh well, hopefully the kies wifi will work when i get home.

My laptop runs windows 7 64 bit too. I had no issue.
Maybe you find the solution on zedomax's site: http://androidroot.org/videos.php?cat=90&sort=most_recent&time=all_time&seo_cat_name=

All drivers where installed correctly ??? yesterday i got the same error and used w7 update to find the missing driver. Works fine now.
Still no luck, unfortunatly at work windows update is blocked so that is not an option here as far as the driver update.
Hi, I have S4 1 year now. I have problem connecting my phone in my pc. I cannot connect it in kies, or like a mass storage, even in download mode is impossible. All time it says uknown usb, cannot recognised. I have tried AEL Kernel and Alucard, I dont know what is the problem. I have one desktop and one laptop with windows 8.1 and I cannot connect it. In my work having an hp with windows 7 it works like a charm as a mass storage but I cannot flash or install kies because I don't have administration privileges. I tried to unistall all drivers and kies and reinstall them but still the same. Any ideas ?
Any help ?
