Problem with Gingerbread upgrade through Kies - Galaxy S I9000 General

I am trying to upgrade to ginger bread from froyo using Kies (Phone Galaxy S I9000)
1) I am able to connect to Kies
2) It is telling me that firmware update is available
3) When I try yo back up contacts error message appears
4) It started downloading components but in background i can see device is disconnected
5) Again it starts connecting
6) It gave error message "device not responding.. To resolve this issue, reboot your device"
I repeated steps several times but same result. Any help please??
Please find screens attached

I would suggest that your first action, if there is one available, is to try upgrading via another computer. Although the latest Kies seems to work on more computers, there have been random problems with connecting phone to Kies in the past.
I have tried to upgrade my phone using a computer running XP SP3, never worked, Vista, only works with the latest Kies, and windows 7 64bit, always worked.
Hope that this is some help.

Hello I tried it in two different laptops but result is same
1) Windows XP 32 bit
2) Windows 7 64 bit

There is a long thread on the Kies/Gingerbread update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211939. You should have a look through it.
I had the same problem you're experiencing, on 3 separate computers running WIN XP. The cure was to delete the installed Samsung USB drivers (do this via the Add/Remove programs in WIN Control Panel). Reboot the PC, clean up the registry (I use Glary Utlities). Launch Kies and tell Kies to install the drivers. This worked for me.

Problems with PC Suite after upgrade

I am putting my problem here as i am a new member.
My PC Suite for X10 was working fine but last week i received firm ware update R2BA024 over the air. After that update, I tried to install PC suite on a new (as i bought a new PC) computer. however, after installation, PC suite gives message for software update, after following all the steps, at the stage where PC suite ask to remove the phone battery for 5 seconds and than connect the USB cable with phone while holding the BACK button, once i follow this step, my computer gets stuck and than i have to re-boot it. I tried installation on a 3rd computer as well to check but problem remains the same. However, if connect to my previous (1st) computer it does not show any message of software update and works well.
Can any body let me know what could be the problem and how i can over come. As presently it seems that I can no longer use PC suite on new computer.
Thanks
Hi.
PC Suite doesn't work with the X10, it's PC Companion you need to install.

I agree wahhhh Can't stop laughing maybe his new with the android phone lol.... any way your x10 every computer is fine and its work flawlessly..ones u connected into your computer it will prompt u first the sdcard and u will see some option and u can install the pc companion coz its already inside the sdcard ohh
Sorry Guys for my mistake!! Its actually PC companion (wrongly mentioned PC Suite). As mentioned in the my question, I was already using it on a different computer and worked fine. Also i installed update service.
But now on new PCs both are not working. I am sure that there is no problem with the PCs as i checked PC companion on 2 different PCs and problem remains the same. Problem started after upgrade from RF 14 to R2BA024
Thanks for your support again

what os version you have on ur new pc? is it windows 7, vista, xp? my nephew have windows7 laptop wen i plug in the usb cable onto my x10 it detects the new software and it installed automatically,,,, now you ca install pc companion and update service right from ur sdcard
on my laptop i have windows xp and its run flawlessly with no prob.....
I am using Windows XP professional. I have downloaded the latest version of PC companion version 2.00.142 and SEUS version 2.10.7.15. Both works well with my old PC as they were installed before firmware upgrade OTA to R2BA024. But incase i install these on a new PC and connect phone, PC gets stuck during the process as mentioned above.
ahhhhh!!!!! now i know what's the problem you need to factory reset your phone to refresh all the setting and update....but before that you need to back up your data..... go to settings-sd card & phone storage -factory data reset.... it won't deleted mp3,images,
wile the others to be deleted is contact, files, application downloaded, setting from the network but its ok it will prompt you automatically after you reset the phone....
good luck..... cross finger......
Thanks for the support. Just one more question - After Factory reset would i be able to receive again the latest firmware - R2BA024
Ahhhhhhh!! tried factory reset, re-installation of PC companion but problem remains the same. Computer gets stuck

what is the error message you get from pcs that does not work???
I had the same "problem"... Try this - Uninstall PC Companion > download the latest version (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en) > Install new version
I donot get any error messags. After pc companio installatjon it says softwafe update is available. But at at the stage where it ask to remove phone batter for 5sec and than connect phone while holding the back button when i do so computer gets hang. I will try to provide screen shots later as well to give more clear understanding
Well as nothing was going well so i decided to go back to my old computer for a try. I uninstalled Companion and SEUS and than reinstalled PC companion on the my old PC. After reinstall Campanion showed the same message of a software udate available here as well. So I started the upgrade process again and it started downloading, installation was also started with out any problem. However, at the installation finalisation stage (very final stage) i would get a an error message that installation was not succesful and to try again. Tried several times and during this try again process I all most brick my phone as well as at one stage my phone started showing yellow Exclaimation mark (I was almost dead) But than lucky the update process completed and phone rebooted succesfully.
So i went back to new my compture to check it their AND every thing was fine there as well. PC campanion is working perfectly fine on it. I also checked it an a 3rd PC also for the sake of checking and there as well every companion worked fine.
After software upgrade, my phone now also has the option of Sync with Sony web as well as before it only showed the option of sync with gmail.
What exactly was the problem!! am unable to sort it out so far. And I wonder what will happen if there is another upgrade available????

Drivers won't install: download mode for Odin

Hi all,
I've successfully rooted my Galaxy S and want to start flashing new firmwares.
Having followed the tutorial, I've gotten my phone into Download mode (with the android on the screen sweeping) and connected to my PC via USB, but my PC says 'Driver Installation Failed' after it tries to install new hardware drivers automatically.
I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I was wondering if I needed Kies installed on my PC first (so it might have drivers in it), but I can't get it to install at all. When I try installing the .exe it does the 'preparing installation files' and gets to 100% before disappearing and nothing happens, so it never opens the installer. I double checked the task manager and nothing happens once the 'preparing' reaches 100%, it all just stops. Compatibility mode didn't work either.
If Kies doesn't need to be installed for flashing new firmwares, all the better, but what do I need to do to get it to correctly install drivers in 'Download mode' for Odin?
Cheers!
Ah, solved!
I instead installed Samsung New PC Studio from samsung-firmwares, and even though it doesn't detect the phone and I exited it, my Galaxy S successfully installed drivers on my PC.
Flashing now! =O
Hey this worked. Thanks a million!!

For those who can't connect with Kies

After half an hour trying I have just found a working solution how to connect your SGS in Kies. Here is the deal:
Start Kies, put phone's USB settings in Kies mode. Connect your phone to the PC. Wait until MTP App show "Connected". Go to your PC's Device manager, find Portable Devices and select Disable on GT-I9000. Do not wait for the disabling process to be completed, just disconnect the USB cable. Now connect the USB cable again, wait the MTP App on the phone to show you the message "Connected" and choose Enable on GT-I9000 in Device Manager. After a few seconds your phone should be ready in Kies
I tried this both on x86 and x64 Windows 7 and it works for me.
I hope this will help! And I hope there isn't another thread with this solution. If there is - I'm sorry
i cant wait to get home and try this... another 10h to go
but if this helps ur a geniues

Will put this in the FAQ if we have some confirmations for its effectiveness
when i first bought my phone it worked with kies, but after flashing it to a different firmware there was nothing i could do to get it to connect. i had deleted drivers, re-installed, etc etc but nothing worked. what ended up working was putting the phone in download mode, plugging in the usb to both phone and pc, then putting the phone into recovery mode, and as soon as the recovery menu popped up my device was recognized and the correct drivers were reinstalled and all was fine again

If you still have this problem, please try my method and tell me if it works
I had issues and I also tried this method. But it didn't help
Last thing I tried was to format the internal SD. That did the trick for me....
The biggest problem with getting the phone to connect to Kies is two fold:
1) MTP application will ONLY launch from the home screen (touchwiz screen). NOT from any app. drawer / launcher screen
2) If USB mode on the phone is set to Ask on Connection, MTP won't launch due to the USB app. being open (see 1) above)
If you set USB to Kies mode and then ensure you are on the home screen of the phone with nothing else running, Kies WILL connect
Also remember the 16+ size extension bug.
So a full wipe on ur I internal sd card is a good solution just make sure u back it up tour hdd
I also did a "Driver recovery" from Kies and it worked after that. Although MTP driver failed to install for me in this case.
Make sure to update to the latest version of Kies ( Now 1.5.1.0074.45 ) as this version seems far more reliable when connecting the phone
I recently discovered that the culprit of Kies continuously trying to connect to phone was caused by wrong MTP driver selected.
Under WinXP
After phone connected in Kies Mode..Go to Device Manager/Portable device..
If you see a device labeled as "MTP xxx or Portable device.." ,wrong MTP driver or older driver has been used..For my case, a Microsoft 2004 MTP driver was selected.
To fix it.
1) Do a manual driver update..for my case ,i let the driver wizard to search automatically..this round, another newer Microsoft driver was found..in fact 2 of them.. after installing the drivers(Microsoft 2006 MTP driver,2 are listed..). .Now Device Manager/Portable device listed "GT-i9000" ,Kies immediately found my phone.
Driver name that worked are "wpdusb.sys" and "wudfrd.sys" found under \windows\System32\drivers\..

Probable Fix for Kies
Friends,
I have also faced the same problem (while connecting my SGS via Kies MTP was crashing). It used to work earlier so I started to remove Applications and data in the reverse order of Installation. After I removed "Dolphin Browser HD" and all saved bookmarks it started working.
This may be a probable solution if you also have Installed Dolphin Browser.

India.
2 different issues.
MTP crashing on phone is independent from Kies on PC cant detect phone.
i couldnt use kies either but i wasnt worried as i hardly have free time now..
this was a simple fix and now it workes perfectly for me.
sorry about the late replay.
thanks
I'm glad that it works for you
try this
try #9 on

You might be interested in my little APK (SGS Toolbox). I first created it to have it read the product code from the nv_data file to allow you to check whether it has been modified after a firmware update. But now I added some extra options, of which one is the option to check whether there are new firmware updates available in KIES by issuing the same request KIES does when checking for new firmware. This way you don't have to connect your phone to your computer all the time to check for new updates in KIES. Note: It sends JM1 as the current firmware version to find the latest. I might send the actual phone's firmware version once I figured out how to find it. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778244
Thanks, I'll give it a try

[Q] windows 7 doesn't recognize galaxy s4

Hi
Whenever i connect my phone to my pc it starts to charge but i'm not able to browse the phone in explorer (it shows nothing).
In device manager i see the samsung driver with a yellow triangle
I tried a lot already:
-auto update
-manual update
-uninstall and search for new hardware
I also tried it with kies, same thing it doesnt find the phone.
I tried uninstalling everything from samsung and whatever i could find.
Still the same problem i tried kies drivers i tried more specific drivers all failed.
On my windows 8 boot it does work (another drive so they shouldnt cause trouble to each other at least i think)
and at my work on windows xp it also works without any problems
What do you think it might be?
Try installing the latest Java s/w. Also for drivers go to samsung's official website and manually install drivers.
It would work if instructions are followed properly.
Since your phone is recognized by Windows 8, your phone is alright the problem is with the OS.

Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable... Now go into your device Manager. ..
Uninstall all the usb drivers and reboot your pc... Once it reboots it will automatically start installing all the required USB drivers again...
Now see if your phone is detected in your My Computer...

USB connection impossible on Win 10?

So I updated all my devices to Windows 10 (PC, Laptop, Surface) and now I can't connect my note 4 to any of them while in windows, the connection was working good on win 8.1 but on win 10 just nope. I tried using different cables (including the original) and ports and always get the error "This USB Device has malfunctioned" (or nothing at all) and I have been on many different ROMs including android 5.0.1/5.0.2 TW, AOSP 5.1 and TW 5.1 so as I can't manage to fix it on my own would like to ask if anyone else is experiencing this and if anyone managed to fix it?
Also I do know that the USB connection is actually working as I have tested it on a Win 8.0 PC and it does work in Ubuntu on both my PC and Laptop. And I did install kies and even did a full wipe and re-install on my laptop (because I managed to break all the partitions somehow).
And an other question: is there any way to flash something to the device in Linux as for some reason even Odin doesn't see the device in download mode?
hmm sounds wired as i am on windows 10 too and i dont have any problems what so ever. I do not have kies and will never use that ****. I have the drivers installed. try uninstalling the kies bloatware and then get the drivers only and try.
If that dont work then i would say try and find a pc with win 8.1 and flash stock rom and try and see if that will work on win 10. Maybe try and use logcat and see what is going wrong when connecting. Also try installing ADB on pc and see if you can pull logs that way...

Thank you but I installed kies only after I saw I couldn't connect and nope, adb does not connect also but I did pull logs in terminal emulator when both connecting to ubuntu and win 10 and they look exactly the same (except ofc some messages from apps) so probably the phone does the exact same thing but the Windiws OS just fails to connect for some reason.
The thing is I don't have a win8.1/older I could use to flash cause everyone in my familty did the exact same thing, I also need to flash the 5.1.1 bootloader and am stuck cause of the exact same reason.
Any other ideas?
Ask a friend to use there pc someone must have win 8.1 or win7 or a risky thing is use Linux and use odin via wine. If you can't figure it out go to your nearest phone repair shop.
