Hi guys,
Just rooted my Vibrant (that was EASY) and have begun downloading some apps...I have installed setcpu also but am very new to this, can everyone who is running this program please list ALL your settings?
Thanks!!
Ryan
I to would like to know the best settings for set cpu orer clocking......
Currently their is no overclocking for this phone. The phone needs a hacked kernel to overclock which has not been worked on yet.

Seems to work for me....i have it set to performance.......max is 1000, min is 800
not sure what it is by default form samsung, but i figured i would try it out
thats not over clocking...thats just clocked to the max. the tmo rep who sold me the phone said that this thing can be clocked to 1.5, which would be so sweet once we get a hacked kernel on these hogs.
How is a tmo rep going to know that? He try it?

Aka, he pitched something that sold you.
Thanks guys..not trying to overclock though..just want to know profile settings...
I know on the main menu you are supposed to leave it on "conservative"..I have 1000 max and 800 min...and am I supposed to check "set on boot"?
-under "profiles" what settings did you guys use?
-on "advanced" I have:
<Sampling rate-100000
<up threshold-90%
<down threshold-30%
<ignore nice load-0%
<frequency step-100%
and again in here do I need to have "set on boot" checked?
Sorry for the newbish question...I have checked several people's settings and they all differ..just trying to find optimal balance between power and battery savings for THIS phone.
Thanks again!

I am on the fence about getting Tasker. I wanted to automate Wifi and notification sounds turning off/on and was going to get Tasker, but I found an app called Timeriffic and it does a good job. But I still like the level of customization afforded by Tasker.
MY question is this - if anyone has been using it on their G2 for a while, have you noticed any performance degradation? Also, noob question - what happens when you get an update or something? Do you have to pay again?
1. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I haven't noticed a drop a performance but I huge jump in efficiency
2. If there is an update you will not have to pay for the application again and all the profiles you have created will still be there.
Its definetly one of my favorite apps, I use it all the time. Once you buy it from the market updates are free, and it does not slow down your phone.

I've been using it since the first week it came out. I have no problems with it. Definitely one of my top-5 apps.
I've been using Tasker for two weeks now. I really like it and have noticed very little performance drop, if any. Buy it directly from their website and it's a few dollars cheaper than the Android Market. The program will check for updates itself every so often.
Make sure to read the Wiki; there are some good profiles on there.
Like the one that texts you back with a Google Maps link to where your phone is located. Was able to get rid of those crappy lost phone programs.

I have read over the warnings in the overclocking thread here I just wanted to get some other people thoughts. I was thinking about over clocking my G2 but I don't want to hurt the phone... I do have Best Buys warranty on the phone so how does that affect it? Any thoughts would be great.
Just do it- you'll be fine. Why would you buy a warranty from BestBuy, though...?
Overclocking it does have its ramifications on its life expectancy, due to the heat it'll generate and excessive use. The only real reason to overclock is "Why not?" At it's current state, the phone is fast and already out-performs some of the other phones on the market.
I'm sitting at 1 GHz but really, the marginal difference you'll care to notice is in miliseconds from bench tests. So if you want to, be smart about it's usage and get SetCPU. It'll really help you manage your CPU smartly.

Thanks for the info... ya i already d/led setCUP... i am following blackprince's directions but I can't get the two files that i d/led from XDA to cut and paste into the gscript folder that I had to make? any idea?

Bought the phone at bestbuy and there warranty plan is much better than T-mobile... I tend to break phones so this time seeing as its a really nice one i wanted to pay for insurance... insurance is what i ment not warranty.... sorry
Ok just about there but have another problem
I got past my last problem the files were just not d/ling so i d/led them onto a pc and tranfered them onto the phone via USB... so i get to the gscript point and cpoc works fine but when i go to run noreboot and oshitttt i get this message... "delete_module vision oc" failed"... I put the vision OC file on the root directory... first folder as it opens not within a folder on the SD card... so i don't get why it is not working?
Please help!
If you can, double check that the overclock file had been pushed to /data/local/

Sorry... like I said I am new and very green with android... how do I do this... I still see the file vision oc or whatever (guessing that's the overclock file you are talking about) on the sdcard after I tried running gscript. I don't know if that means it hasn't been pushed (moved)? To data/local... when I go to astro I see a data folder but it says its empty when I go to it.
Also I don't know which binary file to use the before the ota or after I have the ota insrtalled so I would think I would use the one after ota... but ya not sure. thoughts?
I'm getting these errors on my Tmo G2 (cm7 nightly rom). For apps such as advanced task killer and minimalistic text. I know for a fact I could install these apps before. Can anyone else confirm they are now getting these errors on their desirez/g2 for me. I suspect it might be a bug with CM7.
I know that the Nook Color had issues as the market is semi aware of the devices now. You can try uninstalling updates for the market application and see if it will allow you. I haven't seen anything on the G2 in particular though.

Yup, sounds like a bug.
You may want to change your build.prop back to Tmobile G2, Cyanogenmod changes it to HTC Vision.
Off topic, but Android doesn't need a task killer anymore, especially on gingerbread. Does more harm than good.

yeah I dont use advanced task killer other than to kill all the tasks when things get choppy. I use watchdog task manager. I already have an app that can edit the build.prop. Is that exactly how you spell it in the build.prop?
Code:
Tmobile G2
okay changed the build.prop back to tmo g2, still getting same error.

Is it the DPI?!
Mines at 190 right now and I can't even think about reverting back. 240 is just so ugly.
Is that the cause though?
Yep, change the DPI
My DPI was set to 205 and switching it back brought updates for like 7 different apps. It seems there is some percentage of apps (10% - 20%) that the market checks for DPI before it will let you install / update them.

Just in case someone reading doesn't know how to do this, download LCDDensity from market to change the density. I followed the directions posted by myraroldan at com site (can't paste it here cause I'm still a newbie).
Worked like a champ, and now I have beaucoup updates downloading. Would have never discovered the problem if I hadn't tried to install the Houston Chronicle mobile app.

It's been happening to me a lot lately too on aosp roms. I'm pretty sure it's a Sprint wide issue not related to any roms.

This has been going on before I rooted so I know its not the rom. Thats the reason I decided to root, so I could have more options.

Perhaps changing your PRL (Preferred Roaming List) would solve your problem.

Well my prl is 60687 also so I'll leave it. I have my governor on scaryv2 and just figured out I can change settings on juice defender free so after 8 hours I have 53%. I can live with that I turned off roaming data. Thanks all of you. My wife keeps griping about me messing with my phone but its addicting now I'm rooted.

Juice defender free is good. Just my personal preference I don't like mobile data turned off when the screen is off. Root is great. Without it how could we overclock when playing high memory intensive games and then go back to lower cpu setting when idle. I know a lot of people don't play games but if you have kids it's a great option to have.

anyone have a reference for this...Its the Snapdragon 801 with the Krait 400.

ALL QUESTIONS GO IN THE S5 Q&A FORUM
but to answer your question, no you can not over clock the cpu because the bootloader is locked (assuming you have a att or Verizon phone). For that you need a custom kernel which we currently lack due to the locked bootloader.

If the OP's phone is TMOBILE or any of the International Verisons - they certainly can overclock the phone - what is a safe speed? I have no clue - but I do know that the Koontze Custom kernel for the S5 comes with a TWEAKER ap that also has built in profiles you can download and several of them are OC up to 2680 or something like that. I don't have much luck with that High of an OC, my phone reboots, but your Mileage may vary. I suggest you play with it to see how the phone deals with the OC _ whether it gets really hot - whether it Reboots - and so on. maybe there is a more scientifc method - but I don't know what it is - Good luck and like the prevous post suggested, next time questions should be in the QA section...good luck...

your right -and I wasn't really meaning to say anything against your post -ATT and VERIZON are the only two that are locked I beleive - Canadian Users are not locked - I don't think US Cellular is locked either = but obviously the greater number of users are on ATT and VERIZON and they have been badly effected by ATT and VERIZONs locked bootloader policies..
anyway - good luck to all -

I think undervolting will have a better effect performance wise then overclocking as the 801 is basicaly allready a overclocked 800. Undervolting gives you lower temps and thuss less throttle and better performance imo.
Let's relax with the OC. Of course everyone has a right to do as they please with their phone. Ultimately though smartphones are not computers, the change will be negligible most likely a placebo affect. These phones on custom ROMs are beyond fast enough.

Not the only one. Or two or three. You don't have to unlock the TMobile 900T bootloader, it's unlocked to start with as are the 900W8, 900F, 900H, 900I, 900K and other S5 models.
Most S5's do not have locked bootloaders. It's only ATT and the N.A. CDMA carriers that lock S5 bootloaders.
