in and out of roaming - EVO Shift 4G General

I have a problem at work I go in and out of roaming which is killing my battery. I have to charge on the way to work, at lunch, and on the way home. A weird thing is I get a 1x above the signal bar sometimes.

I running new sense with miks 1.5 kernel.

It's been happening to me a lot lately too on aosp roms. I'm pretty sure it's a Sprint wide issue not related to any roms.

This has been going on before I rooted so I know its not the rom. Thats the reason I decided to root, so I could have more options.

Perhaps changing your PRL (Preferred Roaming List) would solve your problem.

Juice defender free is good. Just my personal preference I don't like mobile data turned off when the screen is off. Root is great. Without it how could we overclock when playing high memory intensive games and then go back to lower cpu setting when idle. I know a lot of people don't play games but if you have kids it's a great option to have.

[Q] CM7 Tethering/T-mo data cap?

Hey guys!
I've searched and haven't found any answers to my question, so I thought I'd post it here.
I'm running CM7 final, and I'm using the built-in tethering that they put in there. Is T-mo gonna detect it and charge me for it? I'm thinking no, but I can't be too sure. As of now I've already used up 10 Gigs of data, and it's probably gonna keep going up. LOL!
Also, I was wondering what's the highest amount of data that anyone over here has used up and not have been charged for it?
Thanks for your time and responses!
They didn't charge me. But after 5 g they drastically reduced my dliad speed until next billing cycle.

They wont charge you, they'll just drop your speeds to 50 Kbps or something terrible like that.
Thanks for the replies, but I already know they won't charge me for going over the cap and I have been throttled. I was wondering if they would find out I was tethering and would charge me for that. I'm using CM7 so I dunno if they would notice.

Yes, they could know, but they will send you a text to buy their tethering plan. Next time you try to log on tethering, you will get tmobile website asking for you to tether.
You can get around it by downloading user agent addon for ie or similar program. Change your browser user agent to mobile and you will be good to go. I have been doing that for some time with no problems.

[CDMA NS4G] HOW TO: PRL hack Man UPDATE!

THIS Forum has helped me tremendously, This Question has been asked by ME and some other people, and I would like to share how I accomplished this Task.. Thanks for all of the useful info in the Q&A section..With out it i would have never have figured it out!! Hope this helps some!
First Off Google Search and download QPST 2.7 build 323
Install QPST
On your phones dialer: *#*#8778#*#*
Once the menu pops up select "Modem" on the bottom "USB" section
If on windows 7, Navigate to: stat menu >Control Panel>Device manager> PORTS>Samsung Mobile Modem...GET THE "COM##"
"Example Mine is COM39."
Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration. Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration.
"Add Port" - and input your COM#
Select your Device and Select "OK"
Open QSPT > Service Programing, Select your device
Navigate to the ROAM Tab, In the preferred Roaming section You can now Browse and select the PRL of your Choice.
I use the hybrid PRLs in the HTC evo Threads.
Select "write to phone."
If you want to Revert back to Sprint PRLs Here is a Link for Current and older Sprint PRLs
http://cid-eabe29f3770d8d15.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/PRLs
Phone should reboot and you are ready to rock and roll. Look under the about phone section to confirm your PRL has indeed changed.
I would Like to say this is not anything I have made up. I browsed multiple forums and sections to figure this out. All i did was simply write what worked for me. I hope Some of you peps can find this helpful. Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts in the Q&A section!
As Always Practice with care!!
I find this very helpful! I started a thread asking about this just today! So -this is awesome! Would you mind linking to a prl you have had success with?
Good on ya bro.
####EDIT####
I wanted to come back and state what should be obvious - but was not to me. When you are doing working on your prl you need to go back into *#*#8778#*#* and set it to pda/pda
After I did the above I thought I really jacked something up bc I could no longer use adb. then remembered that I had switched to modem/modem. I wrongly assumed a reboot would just change that back. I almost completely wiped and re-installed everything.
Well written tutorial my friend

Can u provide more insight into this? How much is too much? When sprint drops u, do u mean they just drop ur phone from using their prl? My sprint signal near home is super weak and being able to jump on verizon would be stellar.

Guess its a good way to get out of your contract without the ETF. But after reading that hybrid prl's only increases your coverage and not your data speed, i'm not sure if i'll be using it. I get full bars where I live, just slow data speeds.

I tested my data before the prl hack and averaged 100kbs. I tested my data speeds after flashing the 00001 prl and averaged 800kbs.
so I did see an increase in data speeds.

The increase in data speeds is likely because you're pulling it off Verizon's 3G instead of Sprint's... What I said still applies, just a FYI.
So do ppl just leave it hanging while the hybrid prl is sucking in Verizon's 3g? Or do they turn it on and off to avoid sprint dropping them?

I just did it bc I am a nerd and I wanted to try it. I am to chicken to continue the use of the hack prl. I may flash it sometimes if I "desperately" need faster data for something -but I have already flashed back to the latest sprint prl 01115 i think it is.
once you have figured out how to do it -and done it a couple of times - it just takes 2 minutes. the hardest part (as always) is finding the stuff and installing it and then a little bit of figuring out. First attempt was scary. Next couple of times -not so scary. Now -just like flashing a rom.
Sprint can drop you for excessive roaming.
Simply said, Just use this hack if you absolutely need it. The ROAMING RULE IS, It takes away from your anytime minutes, and only 300mbs of roaming data a month. Hence Sprint can and may cancel your contract early.
FOR ME I HAVE RAN INTO NO PROBLEMS, so your outcome may be different so practice with care. I only use it because it is beneficial for me, and for many people as well, just check the EVO DEV Tread.
BUT SAME COULD BE SAID FOR TETHERING YOUR DEVICE, sprint also could reserve the right to cancel your contract...Have any of you heard of CIQ? Believe it or not sprint already knows your rooted and what firmware-ROM u are running exactly- In Fact i have first hand experience in actually knowing so. Long Story how but I do!
Rule of thumb practice with care you will be alright
SOME PEPS have more of a Inside connect so i personally don't worry as much as some peps

anybody else experience this??

this happened to me yesterday but this is the first time I'm able to post/ask about this....
so I was at the Subway Series yesterday (for those who don't know....Mets-Yankees game) and took some photos during batting practice. I was tweeting the photos then it said network connection lost. It's happened to me before so I didn't think anything of it. Tried about an hour later (still at the game btw) to search something on google and I couldn't connect. I then thought, "probably in a ****ty Sprint area". After I got home where I know sprint is good, tried to use the internet on my phone again, and still wouldn't connect.
Each one of these times it would say "Needs WiFi or 3G connection" it was annoying! anybody else experience this??
Mets suck.
Just sayin...
No I haven't. Hope you find the solution as that would suck if it happened to me.

I am not sure if this is the case or not, but I know that it is possible to have a device installed that blocks cell phone signals. I have heard that in some places, it has been allowed, however I am not certain where it is or is not allowed.
The article linked below, is old, but talks about how some The National Association of Movie Operators was in the process of trying to get it to be exempted from the "Communications Act of 1934, section 333, which makes it illegal to interfere with radio communications"

Just updated to new prl 60683.
If you are running a aosp based rom you will have to make a nandroid and flash or restore a sense rom to update your prl also a good time to update you profile if you do restore or flash a sense rom. FYI

The first three are all Sprint PRL's. The last one is a Verizon PRL if I remember correctly. Be careful using this one, although for a few billing cycles Sprint won't mess with you. Eventually you can get the letter of contract termination. Saying they're canceling you for too much roaming. Although your device won't show you as Roaming it will be. So take care using it. Several threads about it, HERE is one.
Yeah I'm on verizon 52363 prl and loving the great signal everywhere not to mention excellent 3g in areas where sprint was barely crawling. I've been on it for a few weeks and no issues. May try the 00001 prl soon. Will 3g work while roaming on this one? I know sprint 3g won't work while roaming.
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
Sprint 3G should work while Roaming mine does. Like I said just be careful with using those PRL's for extended periods of time. If your on MikShifted G, or Supreme Sense you can try THIS mod to Force Roam when you need it. Then just shut it off when you don't. You can also change your Slot Cycle to improve connection to towers. By changing the Slot Cycle you basically tell your device to look for available towers more often. HERE is a thread better explaining it. I've noticed little to no effect on my battery, but this can vary from device to device.
Noticed no difference with new PRL. Then again I'm in Vegas and not San Jose right now.

Make a nandroid backup, flash supreme sense and update PRL and profile via sense. Honestly I have not noticed any difference what so ever between PRL's.
I don't want to update PRL to Sprint's newest, I wanna flash Sprint's "corporate PRL" , something like 1115 iirc, but i can't get ##75# to work so that I can roam 3g in my crib!

[Q] Evo 4g w/o cellular connection?

So the whole family converted to iPhones last month.
I was going to sell my Evo, but while shopping for a smallish Android tablet, I had the idea of using my Evo as a tiny tablet. I think the Evo offers pretty much exactly what I was looking for albeit in a slightly smaller package than I wanted. However, it is in my possession now and does not require buying anything.
Is it possible to run w/o a cellular connection or is Sprint going to somehow lock me down?
If so, can someone please point me in the right direction to do so?
If you disconnect cellular service to the EVO it will work perfectly over wifi. My kids have a G1 that is only connected via wifi. Everything works from the market to talk to Google voice. Just tether from your iPhone to have all that on the go.
