Updating rom issue on HTC Elf - Touch GSM General

Hi, firstly i'd to apologise if a thread is dedicated to this issue, but i cant find anything remotely that applies, completely new to the xda scene, dont understand which roms are which, radio's etc and ive stumbled across an issue that i simply cant resolve.
My phone the HTC elf is displaying the tricolour screen, ive tried to re-flash the phone to no avail, a grey screen appears and its stuck at 0%, i left it over night last night expecting the rom to of flashed, but alas no!. have i screwed my phone or is there anyway or anywhere that someone can point me in the right direction, to resolve this issue.
It did have WM6.0 professional installed, is it possible to put a higher version on this phone or android if so, can someone please point me in the right direction with links etc with explanation's, totally at my witts end.
If someone can help me just get WM6.0 pro back on i'll be happy
my provider is o2 UK dont know if that makes a difference on flashing with different roms...
also the phone is unlocked to any network it was on orange but im on o2...cant ring o2 as i swapped my contract phone for this one...(oops, FAIL!)
Kind regards
Lee

read the unbricking section in Rollup sticky and then post in an appropriate thread.

Stuck on a Garbled Splash Screen

As a new O2 xda exec user, I thought I should play safe and upgrade to latest ROM etc on the O2 web site. After a couple of false starts and after checking the excellent wiki advice, I got the thing to run through and complete the upgrade.
But on doing the final hard reset, I find myself with a completely garbled screen instead of the O2 splash screen. After a couple of seconds the 3 lines of text appear on the screen (the R, G and D numbers) but against the background 'snow' I can't read them. No response to keyboard or to 'random' pressing the screen. The screen eventually turns off after a few minutes but when switched back on remains with the same garbled screen as before.
Tried going through the whole process again but sadly got the same result.
Tried going into bootloader and doing a soft reset (as advised one of the many upgrade problem threads I've checked) but that also took me to the same garbled screen.
Can anyone help me out with this? I can't find anything quite like this on the Wiki or in any recent threads.
Should I try an alternative ROM? Stupid question, but is a Jasjar ROM OK on an O2 exec?
Hi - just thought I'd save people any wasted effort. This problem is now sorted.
It seems the O2 web site had linked to an out of date ROM which I downloaded and installed in blissful ignorance. Went back to the web site and found the link is now updated and gives the correct ROM version. This loaded and started up with no problems.
In case anyone reads this - although I didn't get any direct responses from the community I would still like to say a big thanks cos the Wiki and the responses to other threads are a real help. You guys have put a lot of effort into this and created a resource which is invaluable.
Top bananas!
lol...well i guess me and u were in the same boat my dude...i def did exactly da same thing u did..jus a new user getting the update and fu**ed my ish up...thanx 4 posting this tho it was some help*goes to download new update*
I cant even sync with my pc anymore i dont know wat to do
I'm no expert - as the screw up above amply demonstrates - but the failure to sync was one of the rage inducing steps I went thru too. Sometimes the PC would recognise the xda but other times it wouldn't. In my case, it was sorted by reading in another part of the forum how to get into bootloader mode by pressing the light and on/off button at the same time as using the stylus to press the soft reset. This should take you into boot loader - an apparently dead screen but if you look closely you should see 'Serial' at the top and 'v0.xx' at the bottom.
If you reconnect by USB cable to your PC the 'Serial' should change to 'USB' and in my case I was able to run the software on my PC to update the ROM.
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but hope this works for you. Otherwise check out the Wiki section (wiki.xda-developers.com) which has lots of good tips.
i fixed it i had jus installed a new rom

the bootloader, the whole bootloader, & nothing but the bootloader!

hey team. just got my cousins XDA2 mini (since he bought another pda), and he had 1.12.00 loaded, but had the bootloader going due to someone telling him that it can fix the problem with the gsm not working (we in New Zealand) with the update to work properly (?)
serial
V1.00
so I am suddenly finding that it isnt a thing easily reversed.
I have been browsing the web for help and ended up here. I kind of know a little now about what it is, but ignorance is no allie here in techno phone world. a slip is fatal...
there were no well explained threads or posts dealing with this issue.(that i could find).
so is the phone dead now? is it better to give it to my toddler to play with or is it able to be saved? I had hoped his loss would be my gain. he doesnt care, and its a big jump up in phones for me (woo hoo!!)
all advice welcome.
oh, and I tried active-synching but the PC is not detecting it.

Jasjam dropped, now "No GSM" error

Hi everyone,
I have a Imate Jasjam, which has served me well over the last few years. It was running Windows Mobile 5 with the Telstra upgrade that was sent out a while ago. A few days ago, however, I dropped it a short distance, and suddenly the phone function stopped working. Initially I wasn't even able to open up the phone application, but a few soft resets later, that now works. Unfortunately when I start it up, it says "No GSM". There is nothing written in the Device information about Radio version, Protocol Version of IMEI.
I did a hard reset - no joy.
I thought it might be to do with my rom version, so I installed HardSPL, flashed to Black Satin (as I'd always wanted to try that one), but still no luck. The same problems persist.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do, or am I stuck with a PDA instead of a phone?
Thanks so much for your help!
Paul
My apologies for bumping my own message, but I wondered if anyone had any further suggestions. To clarify, I have tried the various wiki answers, but I'm assuming that because this was caused by trauma rather than flashing that it may well be a hardware issue. Is that a fair assessment?
Thanks again,
Paul
I think thats a fair assessment, its possible the radio may have popped out of its connection. Might be an idea to open up the hermes and check.
If flashing a stock ROM and radio doesn't fix it, then sorry to say but it's busted (unless you can fix the hardware part of it). Have an 8525 with the same problem.
Thank you for the responses. I'm game to have a play with the hardware, but wondered if there was a good guide to getting to know the inside of my phone anywhere. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction!
Check mikechennon's guide he provided to deassemble the phones.

a little advice

Hi first post noob here, never tweaked any of my phones so Im brand new to roms and generally anything to do with phones so bare with me if my questions sound daft, Im hopeing someone on here might have a little patience for me
I have spent the last couple of days reading through various posts and stickies and like some of the screen shots I have seen, now this is my first question if I am looking to upgrade the ROM which would be a good reliable starting point? I just want to put a little colour into the screen of the HD2 and have a quick stable phone, nothing flash just want to learn to do what you guys are doing little by little.
If you're asking what ROM to try - don't. No one here can tell you what to use as it's choice. Try different ones, but make sure you read THIS thoroughly before doing anything
thanks eddy, more reading me thinks before I start doing anything daft.
Just another thing though I have just got my HD2 from O2 online am I right in thinking it will be locked and I need to use something called gold card when Im ready to customize my unit?
Hey
Mine is 02 branded and I presumed it was locked, But apparently there not.
Either way it can be unlocked in seconds....
I also went with the official new rom for the phone. I think out of the box has a specific 02 rom with certain things disabled..

Best thing is to try and put a non-o2 SIM into the phone and see if it takes it. If it does then you've got an unlocked phone so can download HTC updates from them directly as they come out. If it doesn't it's a SIM (and likely ROM) locked phone. You can still flash non-o2 ROMs but the SIM lock will always be there unless you get then code from o2 to unlock it.
Don't use the Gold Card method, it's old. Just follow the HSPL instructions in the thread I linked to and that will allow you to flash any ROM you want - stock or cooked.
There's no substitute to reading up - do lots of it, read the sticky threads and make sure you know what's what before jumping in. Probably best to look into stock ROMs first. Find out what ROM you're running at the moment and if your phone is unlocked go for the latest from HTCs website (assuming you don't already have the 1.66 ROM) (to find out what ROM you're using, go to settings on the slider>About phone>software information)

Screen not working

Hey everyone, recently my hd2 touch screen stopped working, I'm not sure why it stopped responding but it will only respond by the physical buttons. The only thing I can do with it is turn it on and put it into sleep and or turn it on to the lock screen. I currently have android on it.
I searched around and found out that alot of people had the same problem as me and the only way to fix it is by sending it to HTC so they can replace the faulty screen. Now I'm going to try that but before I send it in I want to reset the phone back to original settings with WM 6.5 and remove the SPL. The problem is I am not sure how to do it, so can anyone let me know how I can do all that or point me in the right direction?
Appreciate the help
I had the exact same issue. I reset the phone multiple times and tried different roms from stock to modded, android to winMo 6.5 with no success. Your luck might be different, but the only way I was able to get my HD2's screen running properly was to have the digitizer replaced. I know it sucks, but at least you're not the 1st to deal with it.

The right direction would be the search button. Just look for "Remove HSPL", "Uninstall HSPL" and you'll find plenty of results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623402
and you'll probably need this thread too:

One warning: please check whether you need a EU or TMOUS ROM before proceeding... Wrong ROM could brick your device, making things probably worse than they are...
Sincerely,
Mac
Awesome, another HD2 screen not working topic. We was seriously running low on these, Its not as if there wasn't enough or answer wasnt available already a million times over or we would have been in real trouble.
