Hi everyone,
I have a Imate Jasjam, which has served me well over the last few years. It was running Windows Mobile 5 with the Telstra upgrade that was sent out a while ago. A few days ago, however, I dropped it a short distance, and suddenly the phone function stopped working. Initially I wasn't even able to open up the phone application, but a few soft resets later, that now works. Unfortunately when I start it up, it says "No GSM". There is nothing written in the Device information about Radio version, Protocol Version of IMEI.
I did a hard reset - no joy.
I thought it might be to do with my rom version, so I installed HardSPL, flashed to Black Satin (as I'd always wanted to try that one), but still no luck. The same problems persist.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do, or am I stuck with a PDA instead of a phone?
Thanks so much for your help!
Paul
My apologies for bumping my own message, but I wondered if anyone had any further suggestions. To clarify, I have tried the various wiki answers, but I'm assuming that because this was caused by trauma rather than flashing that it may well be a hardware issue. Is that a fair assessment?
Thanks again,
Paul
I think thats a fair assessment, its possible the radio may have popped out of its connection. Might be an idea to open up the hermes and check.
If flashing a stock ROM and radio doesn't fix it, then sorry to say but it's busted (unless you can fix the hardware part of it). Have an 8525 with the same problem.
Thank you for the responses. I'm game to have a play with the hardware, but wondered if there was a good guide to getting to know the inside of my phone anywhere. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction!
Check mikechennon's guide he provided to deassemble the phones.

Ok, I have spent the past few hours both ruining my phone, and then trying to fix it
So here is my situation. I have a newly purchased SX56 Phone that I decided to try to upgrade using the exe off the Siemens site. I made sure my battery was fully charged, plugged into the cradle, and started the process. At about 10% during the Radio Stack upgrade, the phone failed. My desktop told me to unplug the USB cable, and then reset, at which time the Radio Stack would finish updating. This of course didn't work, and I got the 1% error. It kept rebooting with the 1% error. I proceeded to try to soft resent, and go the now infamous white screen.
I don't currently possess an SD Reader, and its one in the morning, so I don't imagine getting one until tomorrow. In the meantime, after reading MANY posts, I'm not sure what to do.
I suspect that my Radio Stack is gone or fried, and I'm not sure I understand if I can somehow reload it or not?
I'm assuming my current ROM is still intact, only because for one brief second at one moment, I got my PPC up again but it was barely functional, didn't have a start menu, just a white bar at the top of the screen where the start menu bar was before. Since then I've only gotten white screens.
I have tried doing the boot-loader just to see what I got on my phone, I apparently have Wallaby 5.22, but I don't understand if this is a bad thing or not, as I saw many people talking about getting down to 5.17 or 5.15??? Furthermore, I didn't have an SD card in the phone when I pulled up the bootloader, and the phone just got a GSM ERROR. I have yet to find informative info on if this is ok considering I have nothing in there, or if this is a problem for me.
I have also tried the volume + soft reset to get back to the 1% error, but I haven't seen that yet.
My end goal is to have a functioning phone, I would like to have WM2003, but its not necessary. I'm just not sure anymore what methods to try from my current situation.
Keeping in mind I am frozen on the white screen page, Should I:
1. Try to reinstall the Radio Stack first? (and if so how? Does it involve copying files to a SD card? I assume so because I cannot connect to my phone anymore through active sync)
2. Try to get my PC2002 or WM2003 up and running and not worry about the Radio Stack just yet? (also how if this is the case?)
3. Try to return my phone? (This is a last option, because I'm not sure I can even find this phone anymore in my area, and I really like it, and would love to continue to use it)
and finally, am I pretty much screwed on charging my phone until I fix everything else?
Thanks Again
Thanks for all the great information
unless you are in US
then installing the us radiostack which is shipped with the s56 update is a big nono!
imho then installing any radiostack unless you have gsm signal issues or if your phonecompany tell you to is somewhat a risky buiness

I am in the U.S., and ATT Wireless sent us all text messages telling us about the upgrade,...
If the radio is knackered the only option is to return it or get somebody on the forum to help that has jtag kit for direct chip flashing. Personally I would send it in for replacement.

I seem to see others talking about reinstalling the Radio Stack using RSUpdate, etc...would this not work for me? How would I know if my RS is completely gone, or just malfunctioning because of a bad install?
I have a tmobile wing and I had it for awhile but just started using it again recently but when i put my sim card in the phone and turn it on it just keeps saying Searching...
I get service for like 2 minutes then it would just go away. This would happen when I leave the sim in the phone, it would get service once in awhile, like for 2mins every 2-3 hours, but never consistently.
My sim card works perfectly on other phones and when i insert a friends sim card into the wing it still has the same problem, it keeps saying Searching... I don't think its a problem with the sim card since it works fine with other phones.
I tried soft reseting it and hard reseting it but it still seemed to have the same problem. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or what I can do to try and fix it?
what radio rom does your phone have and what rom are you using?
you can check your radio rom by going to settings>system>about ( i believe). If not that, then settings>system> device info.
also, if you don't know what rom you're using, it's probably the stock rom.
It might also be that the particular spot you are in is just unlucky for reception and that other phones have better reception by design.

It says Radio version: 02.83.90
And i believe it is the stock rom since i never changed it or anything. and I doubt it is the area because I tried using it in several other towns.

p4350
well on my p4350 over the past 2 weeks i have been receiving little signal like every 5 - 7 hours i mite get it for a bit but only for a sort time. i was wondering if it needs its radio updating?
any help?
Hi, I just want to share my story. maybe it could help you out.I had a wing for more than a year now. recently it had the same problem. it just don't have any signal at all, just keep searching. I tried what you did before. hardreset, softreset, and update the firmware. Nothing helps. since my phone is out of warranty, i can't send it to t-mobile. So i went to a local repair shop. They told me it could be hardware problem. I paid $50 to get it repair and no problem since. I don't know what they did, maybe replacing something inside. So don't just look at the software side, it could be hardware problem.
I have the exact same problem, and it's really pissing me off.

Hello - I've been searching these forums and the wiki and Google too looking for a solution to this but so far, can't find a solution so hope members here can help:
I recently got another XDA Exec and a week ago, the phone mic stopped working. I know its not a hardware problem as the phone can record my voice for notes.
I've done a few hard resets and each time, nothing changes, so am truly baffled.
I'd be very grateful for any answers to this, and apologise in advance if I have missed an answer that has already been posted - I have tried searching, honest!
Cheers,
JB

Try another ROM...perhaps?
I could do, but before I attempt anything like that - something I've not done before - I wanted to figure out how to remedy it with the existing ROM, which is the O2 one installed without all of O2's own stuff.
It was working perfectly well with this ROM before....in fact the only thing I can think of that might somehow have caused this was me pairing the XDA with a bluetooth handsfree set the same day. It might just be coincidence, it might not - I can't tell.
I suppose what I'm hoping for is some guidance re any settings on the device that I don't know about that have caused this, or the necessary registry edit to remedy the problem. Its odd that the phone mic worked before then stopped working, despite hard resets with the same ROM. Forgive my naivety, but I thought ordinary user-level tweaks didn't affect the core settings of the ROM....or am I wrong?
Cheers,
JB
PS - Lower Hutt! I remember seeing it through the mist one day after catching the ferry from the South Island before heading off to Cuba Street for a boozy afternoon...
Yup, got exactly the same problem before buying my HD.
I thinked that my micro was dead and didn't try to fix it before.
Just now i got here to search another rom to test and i saw this thread highlighted
The rom on my universal is TOMAL 8.0 or more i don't exactly remember the version, what's yours ?
I will download another version to check if the micro will be alright and give some feedback

Could be a range of reasons, from some program install or addition to the software set to files going missing. Trying a new ROM or reflashing with the original (but believe me, once you try new WM6.1 You'll probably never go back) might be one of the solutions. Flashing of ROM is a piece of cake, however, I recommend reading as much as possible on the procedure and ways to remedy the unexpected situations before you begin. Everything you may possibly need and answers to all your questions is contained in a Wiki - have a look and ask questions if you cannot find answers and are completely stuck.
Heh, Lower Hutt is on the opposite side of the harbour, coming from SI.
I reflashed with TOMAL 8.9 and micro works very well now
i readed too fast yesterday and didn't see that you're using the original rom, like enigma1nz suggest you, i suggest you too to try a 6.1 rom, it's really great and improve a lot the speed/touch felling/etc for the universal.
Plus it's really easy to flash a rom, it's not necessery to read a lot of documentation,
you just need to connect your universal to pc with activesync (4.5)
and launch the exe file from the rom
I have a Hermes (Orange SPV 3100 but unlocked). The phone has stopped working but everything else is fine.
I've tried putting other sim cards into it, cleaned all the sim contacts etc with no success at all. As far as it's concerned, there is no valid connection. Phone and data connections don't work. All the Windows settings and programs run fine, it's just the phone that doesn't so I have a pda without a phone! I wasn't trying to flash a rom - the op system is all as original except for the unlock.
I don't think it's worth enough to pay for a professional repair so any suggestions for tracing and curing the problem and hints as to whether its likely to be a faulty connection, faulty parts or software problem?
Thanks.
I have the exact same phone, and similar problem. The difference is my phone is not completely unusable, it sometimes works for a while and sometimes doesnt.
I have just - 10 mins ago - flashed a new radio rom to see if it helps and so far (10 minutes!), so good. But I will need to leave it for a couple of days to see if it works properly.
Is there an "X" beside the signal icon? Also have you checked the Comm Manager and disable the phone and enable it again?
Ah well I didnt need to leave it for a couple of days, its not working again even with new radio rom.
Ive tried new o/s, new bootloader and new radio but still the same problem, nothing else to try really ?
(btw: Mine usually has an exclaimation mark next to signal strength.)
Carthief When did the problem first start occurring? Did you flash a radio/OS ROM and it started to happen, or did it just happen out of the blue?
Sorry I did not see this post...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562486

I will check tomorrow. I am using a different phone at the moment and have left the Hermes at the office.
Hi Shawn, yeah that post covers when my phones problem started - I hadnt flashed anything recently when it started messing up.
I've tried tonight;

Problem 5:
METHOD 1
But I didn't flash the patched radio.
Phone is working at the moment... I'll update if it is still working or not tomorrow, if its still working maybe Batxda could try it out as well

Update:

Phone worked all night, and this morning, but froze up this afternoon and needed rebooting. It's currently working ... but probably not for long! My battery is running out very fast as well.

Hi again. Yes, there is an "x" beside the signal icon (normally meaning that phone is turned off) and also beside the connectivity icon (two horiz arrows and a "x" meaning no active connection). Also, I've just noticed that both of those icons no longer respond to stylus taps. All the other icons do.
I've tried turning the phone on via Setup > Connections > Comms and Setup > Personal > phone. Neither work, in fact, they do not respond at all.
I haven't tried the cure that Carthief tried but then, I've never flashed any roms on this phone either. I am apprehensive about that because I haven't done it before so, if that's the solution, I would need to find a free evening and do lots of reading.
BTW, the unlocking was done ages ago professionally, not by me.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Maybe I missed it but I did not see any mention of your doing a Hard Reset. (I assume you have tried soft resets) In general if the problem persists after this it rules out most software issues. I also think it's worth a try because of your comment about the icon being unresponsive.
Mike
Mike
I had done a hard reset but, just to be sure, I've just done it again. After the first it locked up at the password screen so I did a few more. Next, I let the Orange config run through. With the third, I removed the battery before Orange it did its thing. Both the same - no active phone but no lock-up either.
Icons on top bar still not active and x's against them.
When I go to settings > Personal > Comms, the phone icon is highlighted and appears to be "on" (no "x") but the top bar icons still show that it isn't. When the comms phone icon is clicked, the cross appears and the phone is, presumably, turned off and can't be turned on again.
When I go to settings > Personal > Phone, it says that the phone is off, would I like to turn it on. Click yes but it doesn't work.
BTW, I'm using an O2 sim card which works perfectly in a NIKI (touch dual).
I hope this is a software not hardware problem. Is there any point in flashing a new radio or complete windows rom? If so, which one would you recommend (it's a minefield for one of little brain)
Many thanks.
B
I did think you might already have tried a hard reset. In general that tends to point towards hardware, BUT corruption of the ROMs can occur. Unfortunately that is not my area of expertise. Hopefully someone will recommend something here. You could always look on http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/ making sure you have Hardspl installed.
Mike
Hi all, my phone is still not working completely but it does seem to be staying alive for longer periods now.
I have just downloaded the latest (from Oct. 2007) software upgrade from Orange for the Hermes - I think it is windows mobile 5, not sure yet. I cant install it tonight but Im going to try that tommorow.
I downloaded the Orange update but it wouldn't load on my phone. all I got was an error message which said it was the wrong rom for the phone. I don't know whether that's because I've had it unlocked or maybe my rom is newer than the update. anyway, I'm no further forward.
I've just noticed that, in Settings > Device Information, it is blank against the radio version and the Protocol version and that there is no IMEI listed either. I guess that means the radio is corrupted so I will try installing a new one. It is op version 14.123.1.614 and ROM version 1.23.61.4. Which radio is recommended.
What does the missing IMEI number mean or is that also connected with the missing radio?
B
Hi Batxda, I dont know which radio to recommend, mine is Radio version: 1.47.30.10 and ROM version: 3.54.255.3
My phone has now been working for over 24hrs, battery has stayed charged as well... so I haven't installed the Orange rom yet.
I bought a new phone having pretty much given up on this one... and now it seems to be working again!
Nope. Not working. Ran for over 48hrs but locked/froze up today with calls going straight to answerphone, battery drained from 70% to 20% in about two hours as well!
My last attempt is going to be running the phone with no memory card in, and no sim card with phone disabled. Will report back.
Have you had any luck Batxda ?

Sorry to hear that. I've had different but similarly unsuccessful times. I hope your experiment goes well.
I flashed with HardSPL (SPL-2.10.Olipro) then tried to flash a Radio.
1st I tried v 1.11.00.00 running from the PC. It froze so I had to unplug it. That messed everything up and I ended up with it stuck on the bootloader screen (Type 2a) so I used mtty and found that command "set 16 0" worked so I could return to WM5.
2nd I tried to flash radio v 1.47.00.10 from the SD card. It started OK, got to about 20% and stopped. That was at 11:15. Its now 13:30, 2.25 hours later and it hasn't moved in that time. I am going to have to stop it but I'm sure it will end up corrupted again.
H E L P anybody, how can I flash a radio to this damned thing?
BTW, it is a Hermes 100.
B
Batxda when I reflashed a new radio I just followed the guide here:
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=26
It sounds like you've gone through the same procedure as me so you've probably already followed that guide...
I don't know what to suggest, but if it was me, and the radio wouldn't flash, I would (being a bit dim ) try it a few more times until I was exhausted...
I've just rebooted mine to see if I could provoke it to do anything with no sim/memory cards in. It gets to the password entry screen and tells me I've entered the wrong password but I know its the right password !! Does anyone know where/how these phones store the password ?

I have a AT&T 8525 Hermes that was having No GSM issues.
I'm not sure if both of you seen the No GSM message when booting the phone (when it was bootable) & if you did, here's what I did to get the phone working again.
I removed the battery & pressed hard against the back stainless steel plate especially around the area near the battery contacts. It worked for mine & the No GSM issue would go away. If it happened again, then I repeat the same procedure & it works again.
My conclusion is that the GSM chip has broken or loose contacts with the motherboard so as long as the contacts is good, that keeps the radio working. BTW, this phone was dropped before & after that, this issue started happening.
Lastly, I'm not sure if your issue is really with the password...that's just a symptom of something else that is wrong with the system...not sure if it's entirely software or perhaps hardware or combination of both.

No, I haven't seen that message.
Since the last post, I've tried to flash various radio roms, two WM6 roms and what XDA says is the original WM5 Orange SVP M3100 rom for my phone (v slightly different version number though). All of them hang at around 11% or give an error message. I've ended up with a Dopod start screen (from one of the WM6 attempts) and a funny mixture of colours but I can still start Windows so I've got a pda with no phone access.
Taking your message on board, I'm starting to think that there is a hardware fault preventing the radio from being recognised. That is unless there is something fundamental that, being a n00b at this, I'm not doing. I've put Hard SPL on the phone, flashed roms and failed, reset it with MTTY (set 16 0) and used a variety of radio and main roms. Is there anything else I should have done?
I'm about to give up and see what it's value is and then see if I can get a hardware repair (if it's worth it). Otherwise, I've heard that some fetes have a throw the mobile competition ......... !!!!!!
B
Okay - so I'm a very sad man today. My 614c was working perfectly Saturday while I was on a road trip. I got home that evening and it showed no signal. It will simply no longer connect to AT&T.
I've tried soft booting it, I've tried shutting down and cold booting. I've removed the battery for a while then restarted. I've restored the device to factory settings. I've flashed it with the new 6.5 image (which is sweet, btw).
Nothing has helped
I had the standard, updated HP image before I started having trouble - so I haven't been playing with the ROMs, etc until now.
Every function seems to be fine except I can't use it to make a phone call - which, unfortunately, is a pretty significant element for a phone.
So - I'm wondering where from here. I'm no phone expert, so I don't know what else I can try.
Anyone know what's wrong and why it would just fail like this (nothing happened to it, it was just sitting in its holder while I drove)?
If there's nothing I can do....is there someplace I can have it fixed?
I called HP and they said "It's out of warranty and we no longer work on them. Sorry." I was pretty mad about that. This was a pretty expensive device and I expected to use it for more than 16 months.
If someone can help, I can't tell you how much I'd appreciate it.
You could try to flash radio firmware v0.89 and tell us after that if something has changed
http://rapidshare.com/files/196503270/RUU_1.8.0_081208_MP_M089_WWE.rar
Thanks for your suggestion. I was already at 89 - but I did do the flash anyhow. It has not made any difference...still no connection.
you can try to use dnw to flash rom (see 6xx,9xx stuck bootloader thread)

No - still facing the issue. Just can never connect to a tower, so no phone service. I need to find some way to fix the radio software, but using an sd card and flashing it has not worked.
Any help would be appreciated.
