I'm looking at getting a Samsung Vibrant locked to the T-mobile network. I need the device unlocked to use on a network in Canada. Due to not being a past or current t-mobile US customer I won't be able to get the unlock code directly. Does anyone know of a reliable 3rd part unlocker that sells codes to this device?
Thanks in advance!
2 options
1. Get an unlocked one (buy it outright). If it is locked, a quick call to T-Mobile should get it unlocked. Anyone know any different?
2. Wait 90 days, then ask T-Mobile to unlock it. They've always been good about that in my experience.
Call T-Mobile and see what their policies are WRT this.
Call Customer Care and request an unlock code. TMo emailed me the code in under 48hrs.
I tried calling tmobile customer care. They won’t process the request since I don’t have a tmobile account. I’ve purchased unlock codes from two sources: unlockallcellular.com and ebay seller "unlockadic". Hopefully at least one of them comes through with a code.
UPDATE: I received the 8 digit unlock code from the source below. Unfortunately I do not have the device yet. Hopefully it works when I get the phone next week.

How can u get unlock code when you haven't had your phone yet?
Did they ask you for IMEI? or you just paid them then received the code?

I had the IMEI to the phone I purchased before it was shipped. The seller took a picture of the device information sticker on the box which has the IMEI on it. I wanted to get a head start on finding a unlock source since the device was so new. Just in case it took days to weeks.

I am also in this situation as the only other option I have is to buy the internation unlocked version which I don't the the 3G works on U.S. carriers. Please update asap
Update: Not sure if anyone is still following this. I received my T-mobile branded vibrant today and unlocked it successfully with the code I purchased from ebay.
If you buy the device at full cost from a t-mobile authorized retailer and have a receipt to prove it, T-Mobile will provide an unlock code within 48 hours (assuming they don't need to contact the manufacturer.)

If you don't mind, can you outline the process for requesting the unlock code from t-mobile given you have a copy of the receipt? I've heard of a few individuals successfully doing this. I called T-mobile customer care directly and they refused to provide an unlock code unless I have a current or past account.

Just call customer care, say you purchased the device at full cost and would like to unlock it. If the representative refuses saying you need an account then they didn't verify the policy before they told you that. At that point you have a choice between simply giving up and going to ebay, insisting that you were told you could unlock it, you can hang up and call back, or you can request a supervisor. They will request that you fax the receipt it, and you will definitely want to get the unlock request #, as there is no account to note the unlock request on.
I may be bias in saying this, but its preferred that you just go with T-Mobile as your carrier anyway... (though that may require a substantial move on your part or significant roaming charges...)

So what person did you get the unlock code from? I'm about to buy a Vibrant myself, also which carrier did you end up getting it unlocked for. Just curious.
The calling option only works if you have a TMO account. If you are using a pre-paid (tmo) type they wont do it.
You need to buy the code. I can get the unlock codes for around $25 dollars or so.
Sometimes less. There is no direct PC unlock (cable unlock yet). Best is IMEI unlocks.
I just purchased the vibrant as well and am currently awaiting an unlock code from "unlockadic" I will also update just to show support for any others that want to have a different carrier
Just had my vibrant unlocked. Yesterday I did a online chat with at mobile csr, told him I'll be traveling soon so I need the unlock code. The csr asked for my email, phone model and IMEI and replied me with the unlock request #. Today I got the code from t mobile by email and it works! I got the phone from costco with the even more plus plan and canceled the plan later. The phone number I put in the form before preceding to online chat is a t mobile prepaid number...

UnlockLiberty.com - They can provide code for $25.

Alas, the question that is asked by many... finally answered.
People, please do NOT give in to scams such as these.
You can unlock your phone, for FREE by calling T-Mobile.
Dial in 611 and when prompted say "representative".
You will be prompted for the standard account authorization (last 4 digits of the primary account holders social), then be transfered to an eagerly awaiting T-Mobile customer representative, who will be more than willing to hand over an unlock code for you.
That's it. It's that simple.
As for unlocking in foreign countries, I'm not sure how that would work out for you guys. Get in contact with a T-Mobile customer in good standing, and I'm sure he can unlock it for you with no problems

Lol. Or yu could just flash jf's rc30.
Btw. One of the criteria for calling tmoh is that you have to have been with them for 3 months.
so i can call the # say representative my last 3 #s of my s.s.# and do i have to ask for 1 or do they just say it?

jf rc30 is not for sim unlocking which is using the g1 on other networks like att. etc..
To get an unlock code call 611 then ask for representative they will ask for the last 4 # on your ss thats is on file for that account. Then they will ask you why you want to unlock it just tell them your going out of county and you would like to use your phone there.
They will put the order in and it will take 24hr-14day because they submit it to htc.
They will need the imei of your g1 go get that number dail #06#
Thats what i did and i got my code in 2days free of charge.

i rang up t-mobile (UK) and they said they charge £15 to have it unlocked!
Also when calling in to tmo for your free sim unlock code make sure your bill is paid up to date.
It's not a scam if you're not a t-mobile costumer. I don't understand why this keeps coming up. T-mobile won't just send me a free code since I'm on ATT.
T-Mobile has to send you a code, try calling 1-877-453-1304.
oops! double post- browser issues....
so t-mobile HAVE to provide you with an unlock code if you ring them? What about if you aren't a customer and bought the phone off ebay? Can you get a friend with a t-mobile contract to ring?
u know u dont have to think about this if u buy one in Vietnam? I got mine for $464 with unlock code provided right at the couter desk. Errrhh... Do i miss something?

I think there is a US law that's come into affect that all Carriers must allow customers to unlock there phone free of charge.
In the UK though carriers are allowed to charge and will.
If it is a UK phone then they don't need to give it free.. but if it is a US Phone you can call the US number or email them and get a free unlock code.

USA has a new law that requires all cellphone providers to unlock your phone (free of charge). It's your legal right to unlock your phone, in the United States.
UK may be different, and like I said, you may need to check with your local policies.

Legally, if you are a T-Mobile customer for 3 months (or just a customer in good standing), you have the right to unlock ANY (T-Mobile) phone you'd like.
Regardless how you got your hands on it, as long as it isn't stolen, you are guaranteed an unlock code.
This article explains a little more about unlocking laws. (It speaks mainly about the legality of unlocking, but is aimed at the iPhone)

Not true. T-Mobile has to unlock it. It is the law by the FCC that any phone you buy can and must be unlocked by the original company on request.
I would follow what you did...Thank you for sharing!
Is it useful to email TMO for a unlocked code?

I found a couple of sellers on ebay who claim that they can unlock HD2, like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-Code-for...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335ab0e4e1
anyone tried?
What carrier are you planning on using it on? I would like to use it on ATT and am interested in knowing of any of these unlock sites actually work with the newly released Tmobile HD2. Also if all the features such as MMS and other stuff on the phone work well with ATT.
I am also planning to use it on ATT. my phone is still on its way, won't arrive until tomorrow.
Will try one of those ebay unlockers once I get the phone

Let me know how the experience goes. I;m anxious to get one of these puppies
Unlock your T-Mobile US HTC HD2 - Pay Full Price!
Did you pay Full Price?
Congratulations! You win! It is still T-Mobile's USA policy to give you the unlock code for full price purchases as of 03/25/2010.
It took me three TMO USA customer care reps before finding the correct steps.
1) Buy your T-mobile USA HTC HD2 - $449.99 Plus Sales tax.
(Sales guy made it a prepay account - but he kept the sim card and did not assign me a phone number)
2) Call customer care 1-877-453-1304
(It asks for phone number; say "I don't have one". Hopefully get someone intelligent)
3) Request a Sim Unlock.
(Explain your full price purchase - they will start a remedy form and ask for your IMEI number from the box or use *#06# without the "01" on the end. Give them your e-mail address and contact number. They will give you a fax number and a Remedy Form number for the cover letter.)
4) Fax the cover letter and the proof of purchase.
(Fax to the Sim Unlock Team @ 813-353-6557 or whatever number they give you! Include your Name, Email Address, Contact phone number and Remedy Form number in the cover letter.)
5) Wait patiently.
(In about 24 hours you should receive an email from the Sim Unlock Department....
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: 3456789
IMEI: 345678901234567
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We have forwarded your request to the manufacturer. These requests normally take 24-48 hours, but may sometimes take longer based on circumstances that are not under our control. Please allow 14 days before submitting a duplicate request. If no response has been received after 14 days, please submit a new request.
NOTE: Since T-Mobile is requesting an unlock code from the manufacturer we cannot guarantee the response time or that a unlock code will be provided.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department
T-Mobile USA, Inc.
6) Wait giddy with anticipation.
Oh, I just wanted to add that if you get the "Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time" email from the Sim Unlock department; the customer care rep has messed something up on the remedy form, I know from experience.
Thats great and all, but what really frustrates me about this is that they DO NOT get the code from the manufacturer. In fact, locking phones to a carrier is DONE BY CARRIERS, so unlocking is not at all up to the manufacturer. HTC might manufacture the locked device on the carriers behalf, but the carrier owns all the rights to the unlock code by the time you the consumer request it.
Despite in the end they might actually give you the code, the reason they wait 24+ hours is NOT because they are retreiving from the manufacture. It's pretty much a check being run on you and your phone.
This is the bull**** T-Mobile won't tell you. You know what it takes to get unlock code for ATT? Just be a customer. If you own any att phone and have att service, you call tech support, ask for subsidy unlock, tell them you purchased phone thru att vendor and they ask for imei and in about 10 minutes they give you an unlock.
SURE T-SHMOBILE GIVES YOU AN UNLOCK EVENTUALLY, BUT THEY ARE LYING WHEN THEY TELL YOU IT WILL TAKE 24-48HRS!!!
Then try and buy a new digitiser without the silly T-Mobile logo on it and you're good to go!!

I am currently waiting for a code from both TMOUS and HTCCODE.
After my first two attempts with TMOUS failed because of the customer care reps. I used HTCCODE.com and they have a one day head start getting my code and has yet to produce it.
Also it has been the scariest transaction I have ever encountered.
First it forces you to register
then it forces you to use paypal
then it forces you to DL some type of crapware
then it tells you that they dont trust paypal
that you need to email them the paypal transaction info; that paypal just emailed to them.
I am just watching my credit report for any activity at this point.
And waiting to see who produces a code first.

They have unlock your phone if you paid full retail price without the contract. It's your phone fully paid off! Try this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6001995&postcount=36
Currently, no one has reported to unlock this beast successfully.
Just waiting...
Htccode seems working now...no response for offical part
I got mines unlocked from htccode its offical!!
I just called 5 minutes ago to TMO customer service, no problems at all, they didn't ask anything besides what device I had. Said they'd email the code in 24 hours, but to allow up to 7 days before calling back. (I bought the phone full price btw, but they didn't ask for a receipt or anything)
I just thought I would let everyone know that after fighting with both Dell and AT&T after my new US Streak was delivered, out of the blue I was sent my unlock code via email today.
I am a current AT&T subscriber, and I purchased my Streak off-contract and paid the full price for it, so that may or may not have anything to do with it, and your mileage may of course vary, but here is my saga:
This started almost 2 weeks ago. I first called Dell, they told me AT&T had to issue it. I then called AT&T. First line support told me there was a "10 month marketing exclusive" and I was basically out of luck. I pressed on and asked for her supervisor. This guy was really rude, wanted to argue with me, etc. So, I pressed on and asked for his supervisor. I think they call it a "floor supervisor"?
So in speaking with "3rd level" at AT&T, this guy was actually very nice, listened to me, fully understood my request, and was willing to create a case. I think that was the key. When he created the case, he was very clear in telling me this was not a guarantee they would issue me a code. He took all the info, including the IMEI number, and added in the case that I would have to provide proof of purchase showing that I paid full price and was not under a contract. I agreed. He told me that the resolution date would be 8/30.
8/30 came and went, and I called AT&T back on 9/2. The person I spoke with agreed that it was past the date and said the initial response that came back was that they were waiting on a code from the manufacturer (if you can believe that!). So I asked what the next step was and I was told that they would update the case that I called back and would re-escalate the request.
I had just made a note to call back in about a week, but very much to my surprise an email this afternoon arrived from "LBK Tech Escalations" with my IMEI # and a corresponding unlock code!
I am no longer a current T-Mobile subscriber, but I do keep an old SIM for instances such as this. I inserted the code, and just as expected, it unlocked!
I hope this is helpful to everyone. If you are a current AT&T subscriber, keep the pressure on them! I think the key is not taking no for an answer and insisting that a case get created.
Are you sure?
I've been with att for more than 3 years and tried to get the code for almost 2 weeks and talked with supervises and told them about even your case and they said we don't have the codes from Dell yet.
and they cant make any claims or emails..
Trying Too...
Thanks to the OP for this... I'm trying to do the same thing. I have 5 lines (3 in-contract) and; for now, I am working with a local store manager who is going to bat for me. If he gets stonewalled I will break out this thread.
Am I sure?
I will provide anything I can to prove this is legit if someone doesn't believe me.
I wish my T-Mobile SIM was still active, and I would show it. I should have shot a video of the process of entering the code while I was doing it, but I was so excited that I had the code I didn't take the time.
The email came from: [email protected]
And I would gladly post a screenshot of the email but it has personal info like my account number and such. The unlock code I was provided was 8 digits long.
Good luck to anyone else who needs it.
-Rob
eh? t-mobile USA isnt supported on US streaks.....??
Well I guess it depends on what you mean by supported. Is it 3G on T-Mobile here in the States? No. But if you travel internationally like I do, having a truly unlocked streak without the requirement to deal with that RebelSim nonsense is crucial for me.
Can you blur out the personal stuff and send an image of the e-mail? Thanks.

thats good to hear.
I travel overseas frequently and always get my devices unlocked from ATT (miss the old nokia days where you could just download a program to unlock your device).
Before i got my Streak i had to do a warranty exchange for my Tilt2 and first day i got it and asked for the unlock code. Usually they just ask for the IMEI number and give me the code on the spot (been doing this for many devices for the past 5 years with ATT). well for my warranty exchanged tilt2 there was a problem and it wasn't getting the unlock code. So the rep said she had to open a case and took my email. Just the other day i got an email from the same address LBK Tech Escalations <[email protected]> with the unlock code. took about 2 weeks and i already sold the device but i forwarded the email to the guy i sold it to.
So i guess when people call in they should request to open a case and maybe then they'll get the unlock code?
Also i'd recommend people not to state that they are going to another carrier, just state that you travel overseas for business and they'll offer you an international package and just tell them your used to using local sim cards (as many countries sell prepaid cards at the supermarket) and that your staying with ATT.
just called in to request my unlock code from at&t. They send they were gonna open a case and rewuest it for me since they dont have it in their system yet. they told me the 20th to be the latest I would get the code but code be sooner. crossing my fingers. I told them I would be travelling internationally and since they wouldn't unlock my iphone I need another phone to use abroad. Will update once I get my code and with a video hopefully....
Just an update, I received an email from the Sim unlock team last friday and requested a proof of purchase (invoice/receipt). faxed it to them last monday and got a text from at&t that they received the invoice. Hopefully I get the unlock code anything now.......
9/28:
Got an email from at&t unlock team:
Device unlock code for mobile 847 ***-**** CM20100914_127*****
AT&T Valued Customer:
We recently received your request for the unlock code on the following device:
IMEI: 011954**********
Make: DELL
Model: STREAK
Case#: CM20100914_127*****
Due to the age or the brand of your device, the unlock code is no longer available in the AT&T database. Device unlock codes are programmed into the device at the time of manufacture. If the unlock code is not in our database, AT&T must contact the manufacturer of the device to obtain the unlock code.
Accordingly, we have attempted to contact the original manufacturer of your device to obtain the unlock code on your behalf. Unfortunately, our efforts in obtaining the unlock code from the manufacturer were not successful. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.
For information about upgrading to a new AT&T device please go to att.com/wireless or call Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500 or 001-916-843-4685 if outside of the U.S.
Thank you for contacting AT&T Mobility. We appreciate your business.
BOTTOM LINE: Called Dell for an RMA and returned my streak. I have no use of it if they wont unlock it.
Goodluck people~!
Got My Unlock Code
Just an FYI,
I called AT&T today and went straight to Tech Support and they gave me my unlock code on the spot for two Streaks. One on contract and one I bought off of ebay. I guess the guy didn't know she was supposed to hassle me!

If you are an AT&T customer with an account in good standing for at least 3 months, it's pretty easy to get the unlock code for any device, except the iPhone. Just call 611 and ask for it. I called last week and got the unlock code for my Tilt 2 before selling it, and got the unlock code for my Streak at the same time. If they ask why, just say you're traveling overseas and want to use a local SIM card.
Hi,
I currently got a HTC HD2 SPL 2.08.HSPL and I was wondering if there is a way to unlock it, so I can use other carriers. I bought like 4 unlock codes and none of them worked... Is there any other method I can try to unlock it?
Thank you
from where you bought the code?
Hey I got my phone from my relative in the US and it was locked with T-mobile as well. I can't post links since this is my 1st post but google "mobileincanada". It should be the 1st link on the list.
Its cost $20 which is the cheapest compared my local stores which charged me around $40-60 to unlock the service provider. Also I received my code within 20 minutes. If you want to be sure, you can email them your IMEI code and ask if they can unlock it. I know you probably skeptical at this point since you have already tried 4 codes from other site. People that have used this site before leave feedback, you can look for my name (Carter Nguyen) in the feedback.

I bought the code from
freeyourhtc.com
cellunlocker.net
and 2 on ebay and none of them worked
T Mobile or a local store that hooks it up tho there pc should be able to generate the code, but there is no cert here
I just got my unlock code from cellunlocker.net. It took just 5 minutes to get it. 20 bucks.
just call t-mobile. don't pay for that crap.
they emailed me my code, it took like an hour for the code to arrive.
T-Mobile
i have been waiting for more than a week now. no news from T-mobile after calling them. You must be very luck to get the code in just an hr. hmmm. please can anyone recommend a good site?
That is the problem with the network providers. They dont give the codes quickly. So the customers go in search of online providers for the codes. Even i was in the same situation when i wanted to unlock my mobile. I then unlocked my mobile at WickedUnlock.com within hours. You can trust this guy from whom i got the code. They provide genuine codes.
Hi guys,

You do not need a T-Mobile account. Try to call T-Mobile internationally or contact them thru the twitter account. According to the website this is the only requirements to unlock it

Unlock requirements
We provide mobile device unlock codes free within two business days (or provide further information about timing) for eligible devices.
Device eligibility is determined as follows:
The device must be a T-Mobile device.
The device must not be reported to T-Mobile as lost, stolen, or blocked.
The account associated with the device must not be canceled, and be in good standing.
You have requested no more than two mobile device unlock codes per line of service in the last 12 months.
The device must satisfy all the Postpaid or Pay in Advance (Prepaid) Unlocking terms outlined below.
T-Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.

They require you to use their service for 40 days, i mean you can tell them that, because u are in italy, and there is no way for you connect to their server and ask for temporary unlock, and you need it to be permanent unlock ( one of the xda user did that).
What are the chances that they will not be able to unlock the phone even after 40 days since it is bought from samsung and not from T-mobile?

honestly is base on your luck, luck here is that, you actually talk to the specialist otherwise, you just gonna talk to some dumb people.
I bought mine from Samsung, paid in full, received it on 4/21 so it's 36 days and program tells me not eligible, called CS, told me to download the program that doesn't work, called Samsung was told to call t-mo. Such a Bu???t and how T-mo will know I paid for the phone to Samsung? I probably will download eng boot and install unlocked FW, but not sure if that's going to work, last carrier phone ever. Actually it was my fault, should have returned the phone back to Samsung first week, when they send me locked phone without the unlocking code. BTW for OP to pay $130 to unlock the phone that should be unlocked to begin with (if it was paid in full as OP said) is wrong.

Went through T-Force on Twitter and seemed to have gotten a rep on the first go who understood the situation and submitted my IMEI number to the right place. The rep needs to submit your IMEI to one of their highest level tech support engineers to be added into their "device distribution inventory system". This makes it look in their system that your phone was sold by T-Mobile and came out of their inventory. If they just try to whitelist your IMEI in the Unlock device app, that will not work. This needs to be done 100% on T-Mobiles end, Samsung will not be able to do anything, and you will want to bash your head into the wall after talking to them, totally useless.
T-Force:
That's correct. Even in attempting to "whitelist" the device, this would be unsuccessful since the phone wasn't purchased from T-Mobile. The escalation I've submitted is going to our highest tier of support, so if anyone can do it - they will be the ones. Hopefully this helps to clarify things!

There may be hope for everyone in the future, this one of the final responses I got from them:
I am right there with you. It definitely makes things harder on both sides since the phone isn't technically bought from us, even though it is branded a T-Mobile phone and our system rejects any IMEI that didn't come from our inventory. None the less, we're all about giving you full access to what is yours. Teams are currently working on a process update that'll make things a lot more seamless, but in the meantime we've got this work around! I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today!

14 hours later I tried the Unlock Device app and requested the permanent unlock and it was successfully permanently SIM unlocked.
Device is fully unlocked, tested with an AT&T SIM card and everything worked fine. After 2 reboots the Device Unlock app even disappeared from my phone. I'm so happy with how fast T-Mobile dealt with this. The more people that make a stink about this issue on social media hopefully T-Mobile will find a permanent fix for people buying a SIM locked at full price and have it easily unlocked under their standard procedure.

Go though T-Force on Twitter ( https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp ) the phone reps seem to be totally clueless about this issue. It will ONLY work when your devices IMEI is added to their "device distribution inventory system" and not just whitelisted in the Unlock Device app. This makes it look to their system (and the app) that the phone was sold by them and came out of T-Mobiles inventory.
EDIT:
Got the phone unlocked, talked to them on Twitter direct messages, and after 24 hours i was able to use the Unlock APP and unlock the phone
I called T-mobile they said they can't unlock it , I have to use device on T-mobile for 40 days ,even though its fully paid off
I even asked them see if they can enter device information on " Device Distribution Center " but they said there is no possible way to do ... hmm
Oh well guess gotta wait 40 days.
Got phone unkocked !
Hi Wolfgart,
You said you had purchased this phone directly from Samsung.com or Ebay.com and not from Tmobile and then you were in Italy and not in USA but still were able to unlock it successfully, can you please share the exact steps/procedure you followed to successfully unlock our T-mobile branded Samsung S8 ? I am in the same situation as yours and would be helpful for others what you have gone through to unlock it. Thanks.
What the *&^%$# I have been "Bamboozled"

I bought my s8+ from ebay, but the guy bought it from samsung,
on the June 20, I went to the T-Mobile store on the 21 and added insurance and they're charging me 15 a month because I didn't buy it from them.
Got home and called T-Mobile to add the imei, they were gonna give me the run around and I said politely that samsung is gonna tell me to call tmo, she wait a moment and spoke to someone, and she sent the request in,
waited 3 days, and the device didn't unlock, checked the website and til today to check device status it doesn't have any info, but called T-Mobile and the rep transferred me to his supervisor, and he said he will take care of it, to wait at least 3 days for the email, and yesterday I tried the device unlocked, and it worked. Then later during the day I received the email from T-Mobile.
Be polite, and let them know u will be leaving the country, it sometimes it works, most of the time even buying from T-Mobile paying in full, they make me wait 40 days.
I also told them that is why I stopped buying from them directly,
