So my Droidx arrived at my work today, used it all day .. (work pc is win98) it was charging and it was working great.. I was lovin it.. .. I also could get into the sd card from "my computer"
Then I get home, I plug the phone in... pc just keeps indicating its connected then disconnects, keeps doing this... and top it off phone just keeps yelling droid, driod, driod.. wow.. talk about annoying... then phone just died. I have it pluged into a wall now charging...
I do have USB Mass Storage enabled
any suggestions..
Already downloaded the drivers from motorolas site also.
Thanks,
Marc
I connected mine to my home computer which is windows 7 x64, drivers installed automatically from phone. Rebooted computer and phone and then everything worked. Could browse phone as mass storage or as a device in the native windows application. Didn't install any sofware from Motorola.
I would think the constant connect and disconnect would indicate a bad usb cable or port.

Hi there,
I've had my HD2 for 2 weeks now and its been working perfectly. I decided to hard reset my phone and start again from scratch. However, now when I connect it to my PC it doesn't connect or recognise it at all, it charges though. I also tried it on my laptop, thinking it might be my PC but its just the same. This is really frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Goto "Start/Menu/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC" and ensure ActiveSync button is green.
If you are running Vista or Win7 you have to install Windows Mobile Device Center. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
If not the normal Active Sync will not see the phone.
Hey guys. I know this a old thread. I notice ever since I used the program here to change the radio on my htc hd2 that my computer no longer detects my phone with snyc cable even if I have Windows Mobile Center 6.1 installed an such. The programs pop up though when I look on device manager there no unknown devices or anything. In fact I don't even hear a sound of any sort that a usb device was plug into my pc same thing on my laptop. I even put back original tmobile rom on my htc hd2 no resolve. When I fflash it with Leoimg.tbh or how ever you spell it I put it in my sd card. Any ideas on how to get the old phone to work on windows 10 again? or is something mess up in the coding on official rom or on how I flash it back to stock?. I wish I had a old pc with windows vista to see if it just windows 10 or what. Just seems so odd
no reaction from phone nor pc
Hi, guys i have similar problem, but it has nothing to do with Active Sync. The device won't notice that it is connected to the pc (it won't ask (this option is ticket) if it should act as card reader, modem or Active Sync) so as pc won't show new device. Strangely, while the device is connected into an outlet charger via cable including data wires and "don't charge if connected to a pc" option is ticket in hd2, it acts as it is connected to a pc and won't charge. When it is connected to a charger with unseparable cable (which i suppose hasn't have data wires) it starts carkit menu. For me it seems like something is shorted but i'd like to hear some other suggestions before i try to disassemble it and look inside.
This is a new problem for me.
After successfully sorting out all the troubles of connecting SGS to KIES, and been using it happily for almost a month, now I'm facing another trouble which is quite big this time.
Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 (64-bit) are now can't recognize the phone when connected through the USB. Got a message says the USB Device/Hardware Is Not Recognized.
I'm using the SGS original cable. The cable was working perfectly and now suddenly it doesn't work in data mode but still able to recharge the phone battery.
Am I having a cable problem? Or worst, the USB connector (on the phone) problem? I tried to clean the USB connector on the phone but still can't connect the phone to my computers.
Does anybody here having the same problem as well?
I just gave up with my PC, same problem
In then end I set up a VMware XP machine to sync
Else I use my laptop

I sometimes have a problem with KIES detecting my phone. What I sometimes have to do is connect the phone with KIES loaded, go to device manager, show hidden devices then uninstall the phone (sometimes has error on device, sometimes not) then disconnect then reconnect phone.
Such a faff but using KIES to check for firmware update lol
This may not help ya but worth a thought, Im on Win7 64
I did not have any problem connecting the phone to KIES, I was able to upgrade the firmware from JF4 to JG4, and been a happy SGS owner for a month now.
But yesterday I suddenly can't connect the phone to any computers. My laptop (Win Vista 32-bit) said that a USB device connected is not recognized. I reinstall Kies in my laptop and same thing happen. Then I switch to my PC (Win7 64-bit), USB device not recognized also appear. Reinstall Kies, still no luck.
What I just realized is that there is NO USB Indicator in the SGS notification bar!
Does that mean that the USB connector on the phone going bad?
I still able to recharge the battery but the USB icon dont show up.
I am now seriously considering the quality of Samsung Galaxy S! Way too much problems for average owner, and even for savvy owners this is just over the top!
What should I do now?
Find another computer or install VMWear and see once and for all if its your phone at fault. Also worst case do a factory reset. If no go then you might have a hardware problem. You could always try Mass Storage mode and see if you can mount the phone as external drive. Its not really the phones fault but I would say its KIES, its just a piece of ****. I have never been able to connect to it using 3 computers and I would say I know what i'm doing since I work in i.t. Also did you replace your Launcher recently? As KIES needs TouchWhiz as default launcher to work
I just tried to connect SGS to another laptop (Win XP 32-bit SP3, no KIES though). Same thing, the USB device is not recognized baloon show up and no USB indicator in the SGS status bar.
I'm going to Samsung Service Center, after calling them, they suggest me to bring the phone to the nearest Samsung Center. They said that this is not the first time and also said that the problem might be the connector or the cable.
have you read this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8107646&postcount=50
Seems kies has a bug where it can't work with files with 16chrs or more.. Told ya KIES is a piece of ****
Yes, But did you try the Mass storage mode
Settings/About/USB
I always just use Mass Storage mode to xfer files. KIES is crap.
As I said previously, my SGS has no problem at all connecting to Kies. USB Mass storage is working perfectly as well.
The problem I'm having now is the hardware (the cable or the interface) I guess, since I still can recharge the phone using the charger or the USB cable.
ps. I'm using Kies from Australia, the 1.5.1.10083.
Have you looked at the pins on the phone? are they screwed? Can you somehow find or burrow another Mini-Usb cable to test ? I have heaps as some of my external hdd's use mini-usb but you might have to buy a new cable.
Try this.. I wrote this a while back.. It may help. I know you suspect it's hardware, but it might be worth trying anyway.

Thanks for the help guys!
It's purely hardware problem. Yesterday I brought it to local Samsung Service Center, and because they said this is not the first timer, the technician quickly open the device and gosh... dust and some fungus were collected near the microUSB port! I admit I never close the USB port, just left it open after use, my bad!
After some cleaning and testing, the microUSB is working again.
Now I'm a happy SGS user again!
but that doesn't explain how it works on one Windows (Win7) but not on another Windows (WinXP)

The SGS wasn't recognized in ALL Windows versions, since it was a hardware problem.
Now SGS is recognized in ALL Windows versions.
download "usbdeview" and delete the usb drivers for the specific device.
For Pete's fookin sake.....
I mussa flashed 20 friggin ROMS to my WinMo Omnia....and I CAN'T EVEN GET THE DAMN DROID TO BE RECOGNIZED ON MY PC.
For cripes sake
So I loaded the USB driver.....on my XP PC. Plug in the droid. "USB Device Not Recognized...." OK....google....read....read...read... ah HAH...I'd set the USB Debugging mode to ON so I could root. Need to shut that back off. Done.
"USB Device Not Recognized...." .... again. Really? REALLY???? So....here I sit....unable to connect my REALLY nice Droid to my GODDAAMMMMMM PC
So...would somebody hold my hand here? Lill' help?
Have you tried switching different modes? Charge only, mass storage, pc mode. One of them might work.
Well I tried Usb and pc I wasn't sure about the other 2. When I was reinstalling the driver I noticed 1 choice was" remove", but I just picked repair. I'll try removing it tonight and then reinstalling it. I was hoping somebody might have an alternate driver to suggest

when you plug your phone into your computer, look at the notifications bar on your phone. Does it say that usb is connected?
Sometimes it helps to switch the USB port you plug in to.
So to see the data, are you switching the phone to Mass Storage mode? I know it's an obvious question, but just wanted to make sure...
Also some people had success hooking up to different computers.
I thank u all very much. My phone hooks right up to my wifes W7 laptop but no joy in any port, any storage setting, any gender of dead chicken being swung overhead while chanting in various states of undress. I did get it to rain,so that's sumpin. I quit.
I'm not gonna theme because I don't want to load the pc stuff on her computer (and listen to her complain that I'm "using up her memory"....u married guys recognize the die-on-this-hill avoidance) for the off-chance that things don't go right &I need to sob or abp or whatever that whole thing is.
I'm rooted,deodexed,de-bloatwared, and happy as a pig in **** with stock.
I might theme down the line if I can figure out how much crap id have to reload ... I'm frequently incapasitated by laziness and am tired of longpress deleting and longpress adding ...plus...I just bought power amp & don't wanna lose my license.
But its still fookin annoying that the goddam thing won't load on my desktop.
Peace out.

before you quit, could you try one simple thing?
have the phone on when you plug it into your computer. Once done, go to the notifications bar. If the phone recognizes the computer, it should say "USB connection".
Click USB connection and make sure its not on charge only.
To access the sd card, click on USB Mass Storage.
Man that's a good thing you and I go back so far. Is it was anybody else I'd say no forget it. I can tell you that the phone says usb connection. And I'm trying to find the sd card on the windows explorer
... are you saying there is somewhere else is the windows environment to click that I can determine if it's on mass storage or charge only?

Ok, here da deal:
Phone sees PC
Phone in mass storage mode
PC say "looky dere, m810,or sumtynes motorola.bla bla
Error occurred during bla bla
Bottom line: no removable drive in win explorer.
On the wifey's laptop it asks to scan, then poof! Dialog to do 5 or 6 things includir browse.
So thx y'all, but I'm satisfied for now with root,dedodex,de-bloated, running ADW Launch on stock.
Seriously, this is everything I always wanted my winmo to do...32gb sd & running pwr amp & I've retired my ipod micro (cuz the power cord gave up the ghost & ****in Apple wont let it work without their proprietary $20 cord ....on a $39 unit that holds 1gb? Heh..fuk dat....I digress. ) ...bookmarks to my cyber-haunts in short cuts that I can TALK THREADS INTO! Nah, im gold baby.

I am trying to install the Samsung Intercept (Virgin Mobile) on my Windows 7 netbook. I could never connect the device before to either WinXP or Win7. I recently factory reset my phone and after installing the drivers on WinXP, the phone showed that it was connected. I mounted the SD card to the computer and it never showed the drive. I unmounted and disconnected and since then it never connected. I keep getting that it's not recognized.
On my Win7 computer, I installed the drivers (had to force Windows to find the driver). Now the computer senses that it's connected, but it says "the device cannot be started". So I'm thinking that my P.O.S. phone can't figure out wtf USB mode is. It showed it once and that's it.
I've tried probably 3 or 4 different drivers and now I can't figure out how to just start clean. I don't even think I need to because the computer driver installed fine (It says Samsung USB Android whatever when it's connected). I tried with USB debugging on and off.
I even tried to make a virtual Windows XP to try it on a fresh install, but VM won't take unknown USB devices.
I uninstalled all my drivers, even the USB hub drivers, rebooted after the uninstall. No luck.
Before I reinstalled the hub I tried to force XP to the drivers (different ones not the same driver over and over) and now its saying "the file does not contain any information about this device". WTF?!
I'm so confused with this stupid driver that I can't take it anymore. I'm now considering reformatting my computer, but it's not worth it just to root a phone. I'd rather put up with my phone needing a battery pull at least once a day than to lose all my files.

I had the same issue too.
Have you tried using another USB cable? If you're using the cable that came with the phone it wont work (well sometimes). What you can do is find or buy another Micro USB cable for your intercept. You can buy one off amazon for less than $10. I brought mine from Best buy for $20. It works fantastically.

I was seriously considering another cable because I read in some other threads pretty much what you just told me, but I guess I was one of those "on the twelth time it finally connects" type of situations. I connected it last night and it worked. Just need to update my SDK stuff, make sure I have all my info for SuperOneClick, and cross my fingers lol!
Thank you for your advice. If it stops working I'm gettilng a new cable.
[EDIT] and it stopped working... I knew I should've just rooted when I had it connected, but I wanted to back my stuff up. Looks like I'm getting a new cable lol.

[EDIT] You were totally right! It's the cable. I got a Belkin for $15 at Target. I plugged it in and immediately Windows 7 Pro 32-bit detected the drivers, the handset, and installed it. Now time for rooting
I know it's been a couple of months, but I'm curious if you've had any other problems with connecting?
I was having the same problem and I had a few cables that I tried with no luck. I also tried my wife's Blackberry cable, which is a thicker cable that claims to be a "DATA" cable...no go.
I probably will just go buy the Belkin one you referred to if you've had no other problems.
Thanks!

I actually have had no problems (on my Win7 PC) since the install. As for my XP computer, I just gave up on trying to get it to work. Try completely uninstalling every instance of the Samsung programs (I went through my registry *dangerous*) and all things Android and reboot to a fresh power cycle (like with the phone) so Windows can update all its important files reguarding the driver removal. Then install and THEN plugin.
It literally randomly worked for me. I had the drivers installed properly, but the charging cord gave me "bad driver install". I didn't change a thing and plugged in wth the Belkin and was good to go.
Hope you can get it working! I know the anticipation of phone modding, and I love it! Lol!

Ditto, ditto and ditto! I have the same thing with my intercept, except I started on win7/64, could not get anything going. Then created an XP VM - over my dead body - no go.
Using the same cable, if I plug in my Captivate, everything comes up.
For you guys, when you bought a different cable, what did you buy? micro-to-micro USB? Or something else?
J
I usually use the cables that came with my HTC phones. Also I have better luck if I reboot the phone prior to connecting it to the PC.
Hopefully someone can help with this. I'm running Yuki 2.1 on my phone and my phone will connect to any pc and charge but will not be recognised as a device. Even after removing all USB devices with USBDVIEW i get no luck.
So steps I have tried:-
1.) Restarting everyting, phone and computer.
2.) Hard Reset phone
3.) Uninstalled all phone related software (zune, wp7 sdks etc)
4.) Different USB cables
5.) Disabled virus protection
Now I as far as I am aware I could just flash another Rom through magdlr (havent checked if this will actually work yet) but I only have the one sd card at the minute and because im using Yuki it'll be locked. So without being able to sideload the unlocker am I screwed? or can anyone think of something I can do?
I forgot to mention I also tried connecting to it via Ubuntu and both magdlr and WP7 dont appear to connect yet the phone charges fine. I'm stumped guys, any ideas?
the phone charging has nothing to do with windows desktop recognizing your phone.
what you said about ubuntu doesn't make sense...what are you saying about ubuntu?
i've found sometimes it takes a while for the pc connection to recognize the phone...shutdown phone an pc. try again. don't use pc to charge your phone..use external charger.
go into devices in the control panel..remove hd2 entries...reboot pc, try connecting.
OK what I am saying about both Windows (Multiple versions on multiple computers from Win7 to Xp) and Ubuntu (desktop os) is neither of them recognise the device what so ever, it is not a driver recognition issue, the device is apparentley not connected. There is no sign of it being connected to the PC at all, except for the fact it DOES charge. I have removed all previous drivers (including on my own pc where HD2 appears under devices & printers as suggest above), software and restarted both deivces many times since.
I am not charging my HD2 via the PC, I charge it from the wall. What I am saying is when it is plugged into a computer it does charge but according to the PC's it is does not exist as a connected device. Let alone recognizing the phone. This has only happened since this particular boot of Yuki 2.1, I have had multiple other Roms including this one before and never had this issue before.
I have connected it to computers on which the phone has never been conected to, and others that it has worked on all with multiple cables. So I am under the impression it is a phone issue, unless I have been a real derp and you can think of anything I may not have.
it could be a phone issue. i've always had yuki rom my phone, currently v2.1since first out, and no problems whatsoever. as i said, the phone charging via pc has nothing to do/with the pc recognizing the phone...it's a straight usb port power connection like connecting to any usb port.
see if you have the same issue with a different rom.
Thanks for your help. Think I have sorted it now.. I don't know why I didnt think of it sooner but I checked the usb port on the phone and the internal "pins" had been pressed up against the side of the connection so werent making contact with the cable. Looks like it was happily taking a charge like that but no data connection... seems to have just been a coincidence that after finishing installing yuki again that I was a total drip and mashed the charge into the port bending the pins.
So happy now I can keep my beloved HD2, untill the quad core run of WP8 devices are released.
I had the same problem in my MAGLDR mass storage USB phone connected to the PC but not in WP7.5, eventually was a problem with the cable.
glad to hear it was just misaligned pins.
Might also be the cable. I think I've got a similar problem - using the original USB cable Zune recognices the device, using another cable it doesn't (Unknown hardware). But the phone is charging with both - and I don't see any damaged pins on the phone.
