Galaxy S availability in France - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey guys, does anybody know or have a wise guess as to when we'll have this device with the French operators (SFR, Orange...)
I know Bouygues has it for contract renewal but not new contracts, and Fnac.com says they will have it the 20th.
This is really stupid, i mean the American operators have all announced theirs and made communications campaigns (if we can call these campaigns) and the British and Aussies have it out. But the French ones, what a bunch of idiots, we have absolutely no clue, and the retailers don't even know the phone exists, they think it's the Spica or something [Rant OFF]
So, if anyone has any educated guess, that would help.
Cheers

virgin has it for 29€ with a new paradyse contract

I'm gonna buy mine from www.phoneandphone.com on SFR

My main issue with Virgin is that their coverage is not as good as the other big 2.5 (mostly Orange and SFR) and their speed is rather slow as well.
I'd be very careful with phoneandphone.com, it's what i wanted to do at first but i kept reading some terrible reviews, the few shops they have in Paris had horrible reviews as well so i decided against it.

So I guess your best bet is to buy from eBay? A brand new unlocked from Germany is around 465 euros

Lol. Virgin is on Orange's network so the coverage is the same.
But yeah, the speed totally sucks.

Yea ur right Virgin is on the same network but they have a speed cap (3G only and not 3G+)
Phone is officially available on Bouygues however. They have some interesting offer, only major major issue is that you can't download files larger than 5mb on HTTP, which renders downloading docs, updates, podcats, webradio... impossible. It's a big concern people are really complaining about.
Can anybody on Bouygues re-confirm this is still the case?

Hahaha. Had the exact same experiences here in Denmark. And they were in carrier stores. The sales staff didn't even know of the Galaxy S less than a week before they started selling it... I'm guessing they're NOT phone geeks.

Yes, i can confirm that is true!!!!!! Nice, english ROM is comming soon.
But here is the bad news, you can only get the T-mobile Ameo with contract, which is £50 pounds upward, nothing less, and it's lock to T-mobile UK as well. I have ask them whether we can just buy the machine without contact in the future, they say no, they won't sell it without the contract. And it will all be lock to T-mobile UK as well.
So i guess for people who don't want to sign up contract or do not live in UK, HTC Advantage and DOPOD U1000 is your only choose.
BTW, mackaby007, HAPPY TO HEAR THAT YOURS IS COMMING
do you mind telling us how much you pay? did you do a upgrade or sign up another contract? what do you have to pay per month?

Hi Wu. Thanks.
Went for the upgrade, low tariff costs about 12.50 per month, but even on higher tariff, the price of the unit remains the same £389.99 Not exactly cheap, but cheaper for me than any other option.
As for it being locked, it's only a matter of time before the gurus on this site get a simunlock.exe together (not that I personally need it at the moment as I'm with T-Mob anyway).
My wife and I went for the Flex 50 anyway as she wants more minutes etc and I want the device, so everyones happy.
As for the English ROM, need someone like Pof to give me instructions on how to extract it for everyone else. I'll PM him if no one else comes forward to resolve this, but I haven't got the Ameo in my hands yet...tomorrow.

no it's a bit different, but not that much
We need english ROM asap. Pls., help us.
I must say if you are not going for upgrades, so you sign up a new contract to get Ameo, it's rather expensive......don't understand why the minimum contract is £50 for Ameo, (even you have to pay more on device) some people just don't make that much call..
I forgot to ask whether is a 1 year contract or 2 years,
1 year contract: 12x50=600 ------->Can buy you a Athena
2 year contract: 24x50=1200------->Can buy you 2 Athena
Hopefully they will adjust their policy in the future.
btw, i think the info i heard from T-mobile is a bit un-true, i heard a few different version now, so i suggest people who want to sign up contract with them double check by phoning them. Once thing remain true is Athena will not be available unlock and without contract. (unlocking shouldn't be a problem in the future by the way)

There is a lot of stuff going around about T-Mobiles pricing. My cousin just ordered his one and he had no contract with them. He paid £309.99 and got an 18 month contract on Flext 25 + Web n Walk @ £7.50 pm.
So he's paying £32.50 (£585.00) + £310.00 for device = £895.00 with lots of minutes and 3GB download limit for each month!
HTC want £700.00+ just for the phone! If you live in the UK, the choice is an obvious one, but for outside of UK, I would recommend the Dopod and apply the English ROM when its available (soon) = £600.00 + shipping.
UK people bear in mind, that T-Mobiles aggressive pricing always comes down after just a few weeks due to popular demand etc. So if you can wait...you will get it cheaper for sure.

yes, agree with you there, only consider the HTC Advantage if you really want the black one. UK people should consider T-mobile Ameo if you don't mind signing up a contract with them, the rest should then consider Dopod u1000 since it's English ROM is comming very soon.

In Holland it is available without contract.
Good news for anybody else...perhaps...
OK more on T-Mobile pricing:
I believe most people can get the Ameo for considerably less than I did. Because I get half price line rental (staff & family discounts), I don't really spend that much on bills and as a result T-Mobile don't value my custom as much as another who spends considerably more than those with discounts on their bills!
Fair enough I suppose. If you look around (away from T-Mobile) you can pick one up for less than £180.00 and less.
So it boils down to how much you already spend with T-Mobile or how much they are likely to make out of you. The more they get, the cheaper you get the device for.
Hope that helps some of you.
Can't use T-Mobile - unfortunately
Desperate to switch from my Universal but alas T-Mobile coverage is next to useless in SW Scotland. I have to wait until Vodafone bring out a version. Anyone have any informed opinion when this might happen?

Actually, I have been informed that whilst it was stated that it was only coming to these 3, that Vodafone and Orange will be getting in on the action later on in the year. But I have no proof of this only hearsay from certain people in the know. Call it 'Speculation' for some, but hopeful to others.
Let's face it, HTC are in business for the money. It seems only prudent for them to manufacturer the X7500 to a broader consumer platform, i.e. Service Providers. And judging by most of their other models, the other SP's do supply their own branded version of other HTC products.
It's only logical in the long term. After the initial hype, I too reckon other SP's will get in on the act.

Actually, i can confirm T-mobile will be the only provider to get this phone. I heard this from Ofiicial HTC people, you see, HTC has now change, they want to sell their device under their own name, they want to become a nokia as well, so this device will only be provided by T-mobile, not other provider in UK. This is exactly what HTC wanted to do, for you to buy their machine under their own name, which is HTC Advantage. Of course, you also have the DOPOD U1000.
This policy has just been recently introduce, so if their sales drop and anything bad happen, they will go back to the original marketing mode, which is provide their device to as many provider as possible. But for now, and at least for this year, this is their policy.
So don't wait for Vodafone, O2, or any other provider to come out this device, 95% it won't happen.
Sorry to let some people down, but i feel like you should know the fact.

Yes, me going bed now as well now. You wanna know why i stay up so late? I accidentally change a registry which cause my machine a blank screen. No matter what i do, it won't load it up again, even soft restart.....so hard it is then.

Looking forward to hear your device tomorrow.

UK T-Mobile vs. Vodafone Hermes

Is the Hermes provided by T-Mobile the same as Vodafone's in the UK? I'm with T-Mobile now (on a Wizard) and going to upgrade soon, but may switch providers if I get a better deal. The website descriptions have never been reliable, where some features are not mentioned or listed wrongly.
Yes they are, but why would you want to switch, the T-mobile tariffs seem so much better at the moment, especially with Web 'n' Walk!
Well they seem better on paper, but I've found when you call and say you want to switch they sometimes give you a better offer than the standard ones available. Equally someone you are thinking of switching to may give you a better offer than what's available on the websites.
I think the phones are the same, or can be made the same if you flash a new ROM.
If you are (or will be) a heavy wireless user then the T-mobile deal is probably the best. Try playing the game with Vodafone and also tell T-mobile that VOD have offerred a great deal for you (based on phone upgrade, contract length, cost of services etc) and see if what they come up with.
As for phone service quality - I've never really had much trouble with either provider in the UK, but this is mostly in built up areas - also if you travel, VOD definately works well for me overseas EVERYWHERE (but company pays).

Thanks for the advice
I've switched from Vodafone to T-Mobile... their customer retentions advisor admitted they had no way to match T-Mobile.
vodafone's customer service and pricing has gone down hill over the last few years, hence i changed to tmobile - who have been great and far cheaper, especially with web'n'walk/web'n'walk+.
i'm fairly sure that someone told me vodafone have recently taken picture messaging out of their bundles of texts/data, if that's your thing.
@agentp
That's true, MMS were removed from their all inclusive tariff since Sept 06.
They did offer me the V1605 as a free upgrade to remain with them and I got to keep my £25pm tariff.
I have since zapped it with the new WM6 roms that have been released here probably voiding any warranty and using it with an O2 sim.
@ kkhalil76
As already mentioned - the phones are identical in hardware terms and differ only cosmetically. I would probably say that Voda has a better network but T-mobile appear to offer better tariffs and there's nothing wrong with playing one network off against another.
Well in comparison i today signed up for a new contract with tmobile......web'n'walk is the deal breaker for me.
O2 shall be getting a call on monday for my pac code.
Also i get a free phone for the mrs.......................once its unlocked
i have an unlocked vodafone from UK. the v1605 is cosmetically similar to the HTC tytn save some branding here n there.
i personally prefer the current button layout than the t-mobile version (due to stubby fingers) hehe!

X1 Still not released in the UK..

Hi all,
I've been reading all your comments regarding the X1 for around 3 weeks now.. As I'm new I thought... No I wont start a new tread as it seems you all have the same frustration as me waiting for it to be delivered/released (any B/S the network operators seem to fob you off with). I've herd loads of things..
1 O/S fault hence the release put back to late 2008
2 Problems with delivery(Hence the Sony say it's released but no operator can tell you an acctual date... seems to me thay are trashing the phone with their operator software)
Is's some one in the no that can say why this phone has so many issues that it's still not released.
and if someone already owns this phone... what are the bad points, I no everyone wants to no the specs... I want to know about the quality, workman ship..ect.. I don't want to see loose fitting buttons ..or the phone surfing the internet on it's own while it's in my pocket.... nuff said...
But the phone has been released in the UK. I got mine from Vodafone on contract last week, others have picked them up from the Carphone Warehouse quite a few US users got them online from Clove.co.uk
First released in Sweden and then a month later in UK with online shops shipping to other countries as well. And we are talking about simfree unbranded devices.
Threads like this are why I wish people would read through the posts on the first 2-3 pages before posting.
Got one from the o2 shop on thursday..
its been out on vodafone for over a week
yea, guys an idiot? lol
Well as the above user thinks I'm an idiot.. he should try and speak to O2...
as thats who i'm with and I've been calling them everyday. I wouldn't mind but thats the only reason I posted this post. and after calling them again. i'm told they still dont have any... Yes I may now have to now change to Vodaphone. I maybe an idiot because I dared to listen to the many o2 operators fobbing me off. Still you live and learn...
Did you all get your phones sim free or on contract.....?
After I asked to cancle my contract... hey presto they all of a sudden have them in black....
As I was so angry I asked them when did they get the stock... they had stock yesterday for half an hour before it all ran out. ( never knew this phone was in that much demand)
seems to me I was being made a fool of... coz after all that, they wanted £99 pounds for me to upgrade...! It better the nuts or i'm gonna break some
Got mine on the 28th of October at Expansys.com. Surprised you're saying that it's still not in the UK.

Help getting unlock code?

Hi all,
I made a rookie mistake and ordered a locked T-Mobile HD2 from ebay (wasn't paying attention).
I live in Canada, so unfortunately that rules out the option of trying to get an unlock code from T-Mobile. Can anybody guide me towards the cheapest option to getting this phone unlocked? I should be receiving it early next week... I can't believe I just blew almost $400 on a phone without noticing that it's locked
Thanks in advance,
Faruk
Means you also won't get 3G on Rogers either...but I digress, http://www.htcsimunlock.com is where I got mine. 16USD and about 20 minutes later my Tmo Leo is unlocked. Easy to use, just insert the new SIM or hit up \Windows\simlock.exe and enter your code.
Hey thanks for the reply man! I was actually starting to get pretty worried, I did some searching beforehand and all I could find were people who were having trouble unlocking theirs!
And I'm actually on Wind Mobile (not Rogers), so the T-Mobile version (1700MHz 3G) was actually exactly what I was looking for.
Nice! Let me know how that works out, i've got a friend in Canada on Wind aswell who is super jealous of my HD2, and if it works as expected, then he might be getting a pretty sweet Christmas present....

I would not be too quick in getting him it for Wind. They may not be around much longer.. time will tell..
Don't listen to Rockjock, I know him from another forum... His part- (or full?) time job is to scare people about Wind... He must be employed by Rogers.
Anyway, if Wind (new entrant) does lose against the incumbents, they will probably get bought out by Rogers. It's not like the network will vanish into thin air.
But anyway, that's totally off-topic. Go find another thread to troll, "Rockjock".

I was just stating a fact. So please take off your wind cape and discuss it. The OP was asking about using a high end handset on Wind. All I said was perhaps they should wait to see if Wind stays afloat. You are right Wind could be bought up and the network would not go to waste but you failed to mention that all the equipment is owned by Orascom and as such they are simply permitted to take back all the roof top units. The spectrum debt is what Rogers could buy from Orascom. Speaking of which any validity to the comment that calls are being routed to Egypt for customer service issues? Seems that Orascom is taking a more active role..
Also i must say the " he must work for rogers " line is getting a tad tired.
sorry for the hijack but I think it was needed to be explained. if not Mods pls delete.

I agree. Even if they end up filing for Bankruptcy (is that a business option in Canada?), their hardware and towers will remain, meaning that someone will own them and use them rather than tear them down.
We've seen a lot of wireless companies come and go down in the States and I have yet to speak to a single person who lost their service as a result. My friend in Arkansas has actually been shunted around by the AT&T->Cingular->att circle several times and never lost service.

Thats true, but thats only if the company that goes under owns the equipment they do not. Simply put Rogers could only buy the debt, as the equipment is owned by the only Investor. So once the equipment is taken back Wind could enjoy seamless coast to coast coverage on a 2g network.
Anyway, back to topic.
Yesterday I unlocked my T-Mobile HD2 at unlock-now.com. The phone is new one, IMEI starts from 35777. I took 10 minutes and 17.5 euros by Paypal.
I'm not linked to this service at all, just want to inform it's worked for me. Going to try htcsimunlock.com a bit later.
Uh, I have made the same mistake.
Did not realize that there was a difference until now
Does this mean that I will not get 3G, as I live in Europe?
Yes it does. You have to use the device meant for your region in order to get 3G with it.

The Hungarian Situation

This an entry from the Hungarian telecommunication
situation.
Hi! My name is Daniel Perenyi, in the internet everyone knows me as doncortio. I'm new at XDA. Thence I registrated here, because i'm a smartphone-freak and i founded here answers, helpful writes for my questions, problems. This post is not went from me, i mean just debut myself, before the substantial part of this post.
In the hungarian telecommunications forums more and more news and articles told from abroad, focusing for outlander telecommunications events. As i going to University soon, i have a look at the outlander carrier's offers. So, i lost my mood...
In Hungary exist three head carriers and few "virtual carrier", like T-Mobile, Vodafone and Telenor. Its seems good, but we have a problem. In Europa, here the most expensive the cellphones and services. I tell a easy example: in our neighbour counrty's (Austria) either carrier's one service, the "All in 20" giving 2000 min, 1000 SMS and 2GB data traffic, here Vodafone Matrix 7 can not exceed that's... Matrix 7 gives 1200 min/SMS and 2GB data traffic for 21.200HUF (~70€), but in a promotion, we can select a bonus: +1200 Vodafone minutes, or +2000 Vodafone SMS, or +1100 inland SMS. Very impressive, no? I readed a not long ago, in England can buy Galaxy SIII with a 40£ for free. Here we can't buy a iPhone 4S with Matrix 7 for free...
In 2011 was a publication onto the free frequency bands. We hoped that a new carrier will start a price competition. We hoped the Orange for the fourth, because two of our neighbour (Austria, Romania) too acts most well. Many service providers did not apply for the publication, unfortunately, but the black clouds gathered already: a hungarian state service provider consortium applied for the application. The additional candidates with ridiculous reasons, than inapposite filling in of the documents (Viettel Group) and arrear debt (Digi RCS & RDS). It is sure that the new carrier will not develop a price competition, but let me not have truth.
Extra: the telecommunicational tax was introduced already last year, now in June the telephone tax wants to be introduced though... 2Ft/minute/SMS to plus, great. The carries protest against this already at least. It would not have been necessary to grant it the 2/3-os majority for the present fraction, only wrong derived from him.
There maybe a little wasistdas in many, that this why needed i to post here now it on XDA. I would have liked calling attention to in a how good situation in the other European countries. Many of my friends said, thatabroad (England, Germany, among other things) howmany people complain about their carrier. It should be appreciated just though, that compared to the payments onto how much nothing a subscription or a new phone.
(Sorry for my english, i never learned)

This sound like the name of either a spy movie... or a porn movie.
U.S. carriers aren't perfect, Euro carriers aren't perfect, but sounds like most of us have it a lot better than Hungary. Talk about getting reamed.
Right, although I did not claim it, that anywhere perfect. Here even the service interesting... not the customer has truth always? I took it once into T-Mobile service my Xperia X8 inside three days with pixel mistakes, but the customer wanted to shake me down it whit "that not disturbing..."
