Found a very informative article on androidpolice. The author goes into great detail about smartphone batteries, his findings, and some great recommendations for how to charge your battery. Check it out. http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/12/14/your-battery-gauge-is-lying-to-you-everything-you-need-to-know-about-bump-charging-and-inconsistent-battery-drain/

I read the whole thing, and this is what i got as a conclusion, quoted from article.
If you absolutely need the highest capacity on a device like this, you will need to bump charge. There are currently people experimenting with "fixes" for this, but I have yet to see one that works. Be warned, however, that repeated bump charging will wear your battery faster and begin to reduce its capacity.

He tells us to bump charge if we need to get higher battery, but says that it can hurt our battery life.
Basically to me it gave proof to my assumption that we're not gonna get much more from these batteries. I posted it because there's question after question asking about the battery life. This should give some insight to some. With 1ghz cpus and hardware that rivals a low end netbook with a battery that's tiny compared to one, we should be happy to be getting a full days use out of them. That's just my opinion tho.

Hey, more people complaining = pushes the companies to try new ideas.
It's the way the world works.
1 company makes a great battery, another one makes a bit better then the other makes it better and so on...
As Consumers, we shall always want more
As Humans, we shall always want more.
It debunks the odd advice given here to always let your phone drain out before charging it.
Im one of those people who keeps my phone on a charger whenever I can.
Also debunks the supposed need to calibrate batteries in phones.

totally, deep cycling is bad for Li-Ion batteries. The calibration on the other hand I don't know. The article did talk about about having the battery meter catch up to reality. Maybe reconditioning the battery helps the meter do that faster? I doubt it, but you never know I guess.

No, it wasn't
a Conculsion in a instructional article is where you tell people to do "THIS" whereas that author isn't doing anything but saying do this and then goes on telling us the bad things about doing that.
WTF is the point of telling us a good thing, only to know that it leads up to screwing up your battery?

Replenish for android phone, or if he wants a phone that kinds seems the same as the instinct(ugghh how I hated mine), the Samsung Seek or LG Rumor Touch have similiar ui's and button layouts.

My mom has the lg optimus and likes it. Has no issues with it.
Dad has blackberry flip phone (don't remember the name) and likes it. Depends on what he needs it for. I have an instinct sitting in my room right now haha
he might as well get an Epic 4G for $29.99 @ Radioshack.com since all the Android phones have the Premium Data charge

Ok, I looked at the website, and the three I mentioned above, are the only phnes that: do not have the 10 dollar charge, are touchsceen. The replenish says it "saves you 10 dollars a month" which I think implies they aren't charging for premium data on it.

i really liked the evo shift
the screen is a little smaller...but has the same resolution
in some aspects it does outshine the epic & evo screen for crispness due to this
also the development came along really fast for the shift
it overclocks to 1.5ghz reliably (i would never overclock the epic) and battery life is upwards of double that of the epic...despite the so named power saving samoled.
sorry just saw comments thwarting the $10 charge (or in sero users case $20)

You are wrong in every comparison you just provided as I own and regularly use both the Epic and the EVO Shift. Battery life on both is about equal. The Epic has a much better screen and the speed on both phones is comparable with the Epic being slightly quicker out the box. If its for his dad I doubt he will be rooting and overclocking.

and let me tell you
your wrong
neener neener neener
try the x99 kernel and mikshift rom and watch the epic fade into the woodwork
All smartphones now require the $10 charge. Might as well get one of the 4G phones. I think that was one of the reasons they extended it to 3G devices

Yep, just an update, he called around and Best Buy had the epic for free today, and they waved the $10 charge for one year, no BS... He is in love, but nw I have to provide the support, and I know I wont be able to keep my hands off of it when Im at the his house, ofcourse Im gonna push him to put on my ROM (which is almost done,I need 2 theme questions answered, and trying to add journaling by default again, any help?)... So I just said your gonna need to root to take all that bloatware off, the look I got was priceless... I almost wish he got the Replenish, but since the 10$ fee was waved,he got the best deal... Thanks to everyone, Im gonna use all 5.
I'm surprised his instinct lasted this long. Hands down, the worst phone I have ever owned.
Glad he decided on an epic though, great choice!
I am aware that the devs are hard at work to find a root method for og evo users and they will most likely find one but just out of curiosity what would you do a root wasnt found? Would you get a new phone? What phone would you get would you buy a rooted phone off craigslist?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
yes, if a sprint phone comes out that would be worth upgrading to and has root, I would be inclined to do so.
I wouldn't because its still a excellent phone for everyday usage ..

I ve been looking @ this photon. Not a bad phone and has been rooted. I would switch
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I know that this question has already been asked before, but I am too lazy to search for the thread.
No, I would not go out of my way to upgrade and/or replace my phone just because it doesn't have root unless an easy way to do so presented itself. I would prefer to have a rooted phone, but since I will likely be waiting for a new generation (i.e. not this current refresh cycle, including the EVO 3D, Photon 4G, etc.) of phones before I do a replacement, any new phone I get will probably not be rooted right away (or if I get an iPhone, the issue becomes moot) so it makes no difference to me.
If I get an Android phone the next go-round, it will almost certainly be an HTC. Aside from the fact that I just like their form factor and think they make quality phones, they seem to have the support of a large portion of the dev community so whatever the FOTM HTC phone is will be what I get.
That Photon looks pretty fancy.
My wife got the photon and it just seems generic to me. All the widgets are plain Jane...I guess I've just grown acustomed to sense..

Nah, I just got this phone at the end of June when Sprint was allowing 2 year upgrade resets. LauncherPro Plus allows me to hide the bloatware in the app drawer, and it runs really smooth for being stock.
If I get bored I could always activate the HTC Touch or Touch Pro, I regret trading in my Moment though; Still quite a bit of development going on with it.

I have actually been honestly taking a hard look at their newest QNX operating system and thinking about whether or not that would be something I could see myself moving towards. I have a BB for work and while it's substandard compared to my EVO (a lot of the reason is that the BES settings for government phones are very restrictive and lock out a lot of features) there are some things that just can't be beat about it. For example, I haven't plugged it in to charge it for three days and it's still got almost 75% of its battery left, and I get a lot of emails and phone calls at work.
I don't know. It would be a hard sell, but I have been thinking about it.

Feel free to discuss what battery your using, how much battery life your getting out of it, which kernel and rom your using ect. A lot of us strive for battery life over perfomance. Also please post battery stats screenshots if possible
I did with my first G1, after dropping it one morning. The USB connection broke internally. I worked with Steve Kondik on it for awhile, hoping it was something simple, to no avail. In the end, it just required a bit of solder.
Well my charging port seems to be ok as far as damage but I did replace the battery and it's running like brand new now it's a 1700mah DE (digital energy) battery made for the original evo 4G but works great on the shift.
Glad you got it sorted. Was just going to suggest a new Batt. I picked up two 2000mah Batts on Amazon for $13 shipped. Had them checked for actual mah, only 1800mah. But still batter than stock 1500mah. Plus for $13 shipped. Hell Sprint wanted $29 for a stock one. Plus so far the Amazon ones are lasting a good 35% longer with the same use, after only two cycles.

Uh, well, like ANY OTHER PHONE with a "non-removable" battery you have two options:
1) Buy a battery, crack it open, and replace it.
2) Send it to the manufacturer and have them replace it.
If under warranty then have it fixed. If not under warranty the either take it to a repair shop and have it fixed or fix it yourself by replacing the battery or buy a new phone. There is a video that is very good on disassembly of the nexus 4....

It's still not nearly as popular as the GSIII or the One X for example, even if LG would've produced more. Everyone looked weird at my Nexus S, as they would at a Nexus 4. They just don't know it exists.
It is a VERY popular phone at a community like XDA. But the "normal/mainstream" customer doesn't know about it, and will never buy one even though the price is ridiculously low.

Who cares? Quality > Quantity. I don't idealistically want a phone that everybody else has. It's popular within the developer community, that's what matters to me. They wouldn't of thought your Nexus 4 is a Nexus S because Nexus S sold less than Nexus 4 most likely.
Why wouldn't they buy the phone? T Mobile is praising subsidized devices on their carrier and will be offering marketing within their stores.
One X is also not a popular phone with HTC on the decline.

Misunderstanding what. You're confusing me. You're pointing that the Nexus device isn't a popular device compared to a S3, iPhone. I agreed with you, PERSONALLY in my experience, I don't want a phone everybody in their world has or know what it is.
Being a popular phone is very subjective anyway. In the developer community or android hard fan base, it's a popular phone. The average user only knows of Droids, Galaxy S#, iPhones, Blackberry.

That last sentence, that's what I meant. I wasn't fighting with you, or even disagreeing. Just forget it.
