Stupid question, but I am a noob

Ive been looking around but I still don't seem to understand something regarding the radios/spls. I have a mytouch 3g 32b board, running cm6. I see people bricking their phones and I was just curious why I would have to update the radio. Do certain roms just not work with stock radios? Thanks!

T-mobile us builds

I know most builds are not tmous compatible, but can we have some builds just for tmous usa only?
I see one so far.... can we have the fix for mms blurry issues and size. Ty for your time!!

I agree. if there are more builds for tmobUS, I think it may help solve mms and data connection freeze. But we are still very appreciative of their current builds.

I am deeply appreciative for all the great work the devs have done. Just like the Rom section has tmous and all other roms sections. But Ty too all who answer me!!

I have tried probably almost every build on this forum.
They are all compatible. I am currently using Darky's newest build with excellent results.
Before that it was Mdeejays Evo; which I may go back to.
With all due respect; Give it a break. Do the research. There are many threads about how to resolve minor issues such as you describe.
I have no problems with most builds, but I did try the one tmous build recently available and it drained my battery faster than a drunk drains a pint. I had a full battery and a few hours later the phone shut down from lack of juice. That was a first.

every build ive tried is compatible not perfect but close enough tried every radio till I found the best that worked for me the only one I had trouble with is the one your using i'm gonna try again now an hd2 is an hd2 russian,uk,german, etc builds all worked you may want to tune your radio until they can stabilize ppp.

Not only that, but CMYLXGO released a tmous compatible build before you made this thread. Please do some research before you make a post like this. And, remember the cooks are doing this for free. They're just sharing something, if you don't like it, or it doesn't work the way you want it to, learn how to customize it; or make your own.

You can patch any build , or download patched build
once i get more time and somebody actually helps me properly set up my dev environment, you'll be seeing more T-Mo US builds from me.
The whole lack of building from code is what has stopped me from doing further work.
Ty justwonder, instead of a nasty comment, you helped me.. I have read countless pages, and sometimes you don't have the time to look up stuff, sorry xda community if I bothered you... jeeeeesh

I don't know what you guys mean US-compatible builds. AFAIK, only the APN is what should make it compatible, and, if that's the case, then all that's needed is for you to put cyanogen's APN list inside Android/root/system/etc on your SD so that it gets written to the system and make most APNs available.
You can download the newest CM APNs list from here:

royalginger 2 and 3g/4g

just flash royal ginger 2.0, great rom, although i'm having an issue where my signal flips constantly between 3G and 4G, i actually was running with cygenmod 7 for a few days and was having the same issue so i thought iw ould try a different rom, and same issue. I've flashed all three different radios and have same luck. if i revert back to the stock rom, i have a solid 4G all the time. any suggestions?

When using CM or any derivitives of (maybe even AOSP) you will be connected to 3G most of the time until you download or need to use 4G then it will automaticlly switch.
With the stock rom it does not differentiate (visually) between 3G and 4G so even though you think you are on 4G all the time you might not actually be.

thanks must for the info, the only issue I have with it in the end, is a few times, the 3G/4G indicator will turn grey/white and will have no data, or it will just randomly timeout when on a certain page or in the andorid market thoughts on that? drives me nuts

Is this why you have posted at least 15-20 times today in different threads with pretty much off topic useless comments? Trying to get your post count up since your account was created yesterday? I for one would never flash a Rom from some one that isnt or hasnt been a part of this community for some time. I also saw this post from you (only a hour ago) that makes me wonder....you are building Roms yet had to have help rooting a phone that is really very simple to root. This of coarse is just my two cents, and of coarse everyone is able to do what ever they want.

While you are new, I'll try that as soon as other people have given a thumbs up to it. but PLEASE try and make the gps consistent. That alone is why I'm sticking with the stock rom - any rom with good wireless data and fully functional GPS is a winner. ESPECIALLY if it's AOSP.
I saw this on a thread a while back... dial *#*#4636#*#* and then choose the first option (like phone info or something) then scroll down to where it says wcdma preferred and tap it and switch it to wcdma only and reboot and you'll be on 4g way more than before. I was having the same 3g 4g mess before I found info. Wish I could.thank the original post but I don't remember who it was. I also know that trick works on other android phones as well.

guys...this is a known issue between Google's servers, T-Mobiles APNs, and Gingerbread (though I have read many reports of the same or similar from Froyo users on various devices)
there is no "fix" at the moment.
(long term across the board for everyone anyway)

all vanilla android (aosp) ROMs seem to have this reputation. the people who do see this usually don't have this happen all the time but seems to come in spurts and then be ok for a while.
but one thing that does NOT help the situation is jumping around flashing one new ROM / kernel / radio after another over and over in short periods of time. ..feel free to do this if you're really itching to but just don't clog up all the corresponding threads with questions or comments about your battery life, reception, data speeds, etc .... JUST EXPECT inconsistencies if you're currently indulging your flash crack addiction.
it comes with the territory.
and I'm not trying to say don't try other setups out. but if you are really on a 'quest' to find the configuration (ROM/kernel/radio/etc) that works best for YOU - do yourself a favor and give each setup 3 - 4 days AT LEAST .. ideally a week +
not only for the ROM to have a chance to settle in and show you some kind of consistency but to give your worn out phone and battery a rest!
your glacier will be a much happier little block of ice this way, believe me
happy flashing

Best ROM at the moment

Does anyone have any ideas what the best ROM is for SD card installation.
One in which everything works smooth, fast and doesn't heat up very quickly.
There are loads out there so wondered if anyone had any suggestions, I am using cyanogenmod 7 gingerbread at the moment.
Thanks

[Q] Rom that supports 4G & Everything works?

I'm looking for a rom that supports everything and will work with 4G...
So I used search, found a few rom's and flashed them, problem is, my radio or baseband (Excuse my n00bness) won't support 4G, not even 3G and so I'm roaming all the time with no data only voice, I really need to find a rom that's similar to the 2.3.4 gingerbread because that's where I got 4G
I think it's a radio problem? Can someone elaborate on this because my parents both have HTC Desire's with the same issue.
Rom's I've tried.
Virtuous Unity
CM7
Royal Ginger 3.0
Any help is greatly appreciated and I will use the thanks button

If what you're seeing on your signal indicator is an 'H', that's 4G... At least in T-Mobile USA's world.

No I just get a straight "R" but thanked ya anyway for the response.
You're most likely on a "virtual provider" that's roaming over other carrier network.
Allow "data while roaming", and you'll have whatever you need.
Got it, yeah needed to check national roaming under settings/wireless, sent a thanks out to all that helped.

LeeDroid is nearly perfect. I've had it on my wife's phone for a couple months...no bugs that I'm aware of.
