I have noticed that the new version of Yelp runs a background service that listens for push notifications regarding check-ins. In standby for 90min this service was responsible for 98% of a 7% decrease in battery.
I think I noticed something along these lines, the stock battery use page showed a whole lot of usage by "Maps" and when I turned my gps off it didn't anymore. Very high, like 89% or higher more than once.
I can confirm this - noticed it this weekend when Yelp destroyed (not literally) my battery life. It didn't seem like there was any option to turn it off, either. Very un-Yelplike.
Uninstalling. Thanks for the heads up.
Yelp appears fine on mine. No excess drain.

Does 2.0.2 still have this issue? I noticed an updated today but don't really know how to check to see if its still doing the push. I have uninstalled but an update from someone would be appreciated.

Not sure, but None of the yelp 2.0 updates had this issue, then again I didn't have my login information in yelp until Saturday so maybe that's why I was ok.
I actually checked my wake ups with the dcpowertop command and I only see 86 and I have 3 gmail accounts syncing with facebook, twitter, and newsrob running.

shutting GPS off didn't work. "MAPS" is still using 89% of battery. WTH???
Just turn off notifications in yelp. The newest version comes with them disabled by default.
-mark
Turning them off does not stop the process from running even though they are disabled by default or I wouldn't have made the post.

I thought maybe we should have one thread where everyone having the same problem can come troubleshoot it.
On EB01, I have 100% awake time. I tried wiping and reinstalling fresh, but still sporadically it won't sleep. I've had some results turning off GPS, then back on. But that doesn't always work to resolve it.
Anyone else have anything they tried and it works consistently for them?
For me, if gps is on in the pull down shade, the phone doesn't sleep.
Probably a bug that will hopefully get addressed before release.

Confirmed issue heard from others btw. But where's the point of having gps even on when you don't need it? Just kills the battery anyways...

In all other versions, it wasn't actually "on" until an app needed it. In this version it's still not "on" it's just preventing the phone from sleeping.
Best practice for EB01 is to disable it until it's actually needed and then your battery life should significantly improve (assuming i'm not the only one that suffers this bug).

On DL09 I could keep it enabled and the only time it would "activate" was when I started Maps or the browser (Google is my homepage and i've enabled location sharing).
Either way my battery life is pretty much back to normal just by disabling GPS in the notification shade.
I've realized that upon boot, if I turn off GPS for a few minutes, turn it back on, then go into maps or latitude, the awake time will go back to normal. If I reboot and never go through this process, I'll get 100% awake time.
I seem to have forgotten where the awake time is displayed. Anyone refresh my memory?
Cheers

I'm using spare parts from the market to access the battery stats.
settings > Battery use > Display > Time on
Is that what you're looking for?
Just download spare parts from the market. Its free and has tons of information and settings that you can tweak.
Looking at my battery stats, Maps has used 8% today, even though I haven't run Maps since getting the phone and did a restart last night before putting it on the charger.
Any thoughts on what's going on and how to get it to stop burning battery?
I did have my GPS on, so I don't know if all GPS activity gets listed as Maps in the battery stats.

I don't have that problem , most likely you installed something and that is triggering drain , maybe application that tracks or integrated with location service.

Could location services be causing the issue?? I see a bunch of apps running even though I have not started them.
So, I've been having some battery issues lately and I can't really tell why. I haven't been doing anything too extreme, but my battery is almost dead within 12 hours of a charge, and the highest usage is mostly the Kernel and/or OS. I know next to nothing about that side of things, so I exported reports from GSam, and I'm hoping someone will be able to translate them for me if there's an obvious problem. Thanks in advance!
(I've also uninstalled Boxer, I only had it because Pro was free yesterday.)

Keep the location enabled.
Are you using any of the smart stay/air view etc. controls?
If not turn them ALL off.

As far as I know, location is always turned on (meaning I never turn it off myself). One of the first things I did was turn off all the smart crap, and turn off every piece of bloatware I could in the settings (I'm not rooted).

I install apps often, but I just as often uninstall them...I guess that's not much help. If it was one of them though, wouldn't it show up under the battery log?
It's approaching a year old, I got it last November I believe.
Yes, I keep my Wifi and data on all the time.
Bad network will drain your battery. Check how the signal is.
Android OS and Kernel are normal between 12-25% on 4.4.2. It's an issue with the battery reporting.
It looks like you've got a wakelock. 12% per hour means it's not going into deep sleep.
Check Wakelock Detector to see if it's going into deep sleep or not. (It needs root for everything else, but that still works.)

Stated in reply post that the phone is not rooted.
My advice will be to uninstall apps one at time to find the one causing the drain.

That varies. At home, I have great signal (full-signal 4G, router is never more than 20 feet away). Some places in town, I can drop to 3G, especially my grandparents (although my grandma does have a router I'm connected to). There's a weird (unrelated?) bug where if I drop to 3G, I either have to turn airplane mode on or wait several hours until it reverts back to 4G, even though I'll be back in a verified 4G area.

I don't think they're related, but I can't be a hundred percent sure. You can try disabling both Google Search ones under apps -> all, see what that does to the info updates. If it scrambles them, just turn them back on.
(There's two Google Search, one is the search bar, the other is the app related to it.)
With that and Paypal dealt with, battery life should improve significantly.

Happy to help Let's hope that solves it! Also don't forget to greenify Paypal (Or uninstall it if you don't need it), as that seems to be the main culprit.
I bought this phone few days ago and after some using noticed that battery drains really fast with WiFi/Mobile data. I downloaded Greenify and hibernated all apps using network. I turned off Sync, NFC, Energy saving on, screen brightness really low, gps, bluetooth still it drains with 2-4h using WiFi or mobile data(3g).
Can anyone think of something that drains my battery so fast? Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you either have a process that's preventing your phone from going into deep sleep, or your battery is malfunctioning. Try checking your sleep states with an app like BetterBatteryStats and see if your device goes into sleep mode properly.
P.s. My device lasts ~2 days with medium usage, always connected to the internet with either 3g or WiFi,and I'm not even using Greenify or anything similar, so the battery life is generally pretty decent.

Check the partial wakelocks screen. You should be able to locate the app that's causing the problem there. Also, I've read somewhere that cleaning the cache (either through Storage Settings or recovery) helps.

Yes I know that. The thing that drives me crazy is that I have no control over running background apps, like backup, that were disabled via Google provided interface. This is type of cheating to have an interface that doesn't do much.

How did you fixed it temporarily?
But the one million dollar question is: How much battery is lost while idle overnight?
This is the real question I think, because in all my tests, no matter the build version, I have got l least 5 hours of SOT (17 hours of use in total), which is not bad,
but most people get at least 7 hours SOT (in some 30+ hours) I guess I use it too frequently.
So, that would be the main question.
Please, do try to answer and tell us. Thank you!
