Battery draining on stock rom. - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought this phone few days ago and after some using noticed that battery drains really fast with WiFi/Mobile data. I downloaded Greenify and hibernated all apps using network. I turned off Sync, NFC, Energy saving on, screen brightness really low, gps, bluetooth still it drains with 2-4h using WiFi or mobile data(3g).
Can anyone think of something that drains my battery so fast? Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you either have a process that's preventing your phone from going into deep sleep, or your battery is malfunctioning. Try checking your sleep states with an app like BetterBatteryStats and see if your device goes into sleep mode properly.
P.s. My device lasts ~2 days with medium usage, always connected to the internet with either 3g or WiFi,and I'm not even using Greenify or anything similar, so the battery life is generally pretty decent.

Check the partial wakelocks screen. You should be able to locate the app that's causing the problem there. Also, I've read somewhere that cleaning the cache (either through Storage Settings or recovery) helps.

Well, it looks like that AudioMix process is causing your problems. I did a google search and found this thread that might help you.
Some have reported that disabling touch and lock screen sounds fixed the issue, while others said that clearing the cache did it for them. I'm afraid you're going to have to experiment

Thanks for the help! I'll try to fix the issue then.

It didn't solve it. I'm still having the issue after factory resetting, flashing a new rom, and data resetting. So I noticed that below Audiomix theres written "1013". I googled it, and it should be media according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442557 . This thing I'm having is such a headache.

Hmm. That process is obviously tied to something media related, but I can't tell what... A music player perhaps? Do you use any media streaming apps? I'm afraid I'm at my wit's end here... Wish someone else would lend a hand :/

I disabled apps like "Adapt Sound" and "SapaMonitor" and AudioMix went down to 1%.(I used media player to try if disabling these apps screws something up). Battery life seems a little bit better but hey, it could be better . Thanks for all the help again! That was really awful... Glad it's over

Happy to help

"sns_periodic_wakelock" killing battery

Hey,
I'm running stock nexus 4. I have been having terrible 8 hour battery life with "Android OS" taking up all the battery in battery status. BetterBatteryStats tells me that "sns_perioidic_wakelock" and "sns_async_ev_wakelock" is using up most of the battery. See attached. Any idea what apps are causing this?

I'm pretty sure I've seen those wakelocks when making a lot of phone calls. Seems likely related to cell radio use some how, but that's just a guess.

Actually the crazy thing is that i have airplane mode with wifi on most of the day cause I have really bad service. And I only have 100 minutes of talk, so I never talk on the phone.

Just checked mine and those wakelocks are really low today despite several phone calls, I've been on wifi all day though. The right way to figure those wakelocks out is to download the kernel source from one of the devs github and do some searches through the source to see where those wakelocks are logged. You might also search the battery impression thread in general, some smart folks have dissected many kernel wakelocks in there. Seems weird that you would have them in airplane mode.

I have the exact same issue. Wakelocks/Android OS killing my battery (Android OS usually 45% or higher when it should be my screen that is the biggest battery sucker).
I barely use my phone to make phone calls as well. I'd say 1 call every 2 or 3 days.
Same exact wakelocks here. I made 0 phone calls. There is defiantly something up.
I had these two wakelocks too and it turned out to be my live wallpaper that was causing it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35277041&postcount=20
Same wakelocks on my N4....
Solution in my case, delete widget locker....... My Nexy sleeps again:angel:
exact same situation: N4, sns wakelocks killing battery, phone not deep sleeping. culprit? Shake 'n Rotate! app. so add that one to the blacklist as well!
Are any of you running stock kernel and ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Im Running stock kernal and Rom and i still get sns_periodic_wakelock and sns_async_ev_wakelock Does anyone have any idea what they are or what causes them or how to fix? They seem to be on the whole time my phone is on and they suck battery crazy not as bad as most but my android os is always 2nd battery use to my screen or more depending on how i use it and it sucks cause i know i would have pretty awesome battery life if these were fixed or gone. I appreciate any help!
Apparently you can also add: lightflow vibrate on pickup feature and adding a widget to the lock screen..
PowerManagerService and sns periodic wakelock are my main culprits but I'm not sure these numbers mean there's an issue or not...
I just checked BBS for todays use and I have on 9h use 4h on sns_periodic_wakelock. I have been using DashClock on my lockscreen. I will remove that and post back later to see if that helped.:cyclops:
Hmm can anyone say if this looks problematic?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yes it does look problematic.
Basically sns_periodic_wakelock kept the device from sleeping for almost three hours.
I have the same issue and don't know what's causing it.
EDIT: Apparently live wallpapers do.
Just writing back to tell you guys how it went. I removed DashClock from my lockscreen and that wakelock seemed to be gone for a few days.
I then later updated the app, and just by updating it, I think it caused the wakelock. This time I'm uninstalling and checking if it comes back again.
Is there a known list of apps suspected of causing this?

I've had dashclock for the past two days.. Not seeing any wake locks. I have all the extensions from the app enabled.
Sns is related to facebook. If you use Titanium backup, go to apps and you can see a blue icon with a letter f on it that looks like facebook letter and labelled sns. Uninstall that and your lovely nexus 4 will enjoy its sleeeeep....

[solution] fix your battery on wls8

hey,
many of us have faced an issue with the battery after flashing the official JB
well this may not be a sol " cuz i don't know what happend!"
so what i did was
1. flashing LPF 4.0.3 wipe data before flashing , not after.
2. flashing the ls8 and the lpx modem at the same time no data wipe
thats it
I'll try this
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
From the screenshot I see that you have a big problem with reception signal, which, most likely, causes many wakelocks. Change the modem with one from your country. And whats the solution btw?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I don't get this too. Your screenshot is full of wakelocks, and the only reason your battery isn't empty yet is because your screen wasn't on all the time...

I found out that the new "google now" ate ALOT of battery in my case.

Sure, but first post what apps you're running in background -- maybe it's not media, but something else like Google Now, location service (maps)? How does your phone "sleep"? Does it wake up?
Anyway, media fix that seem to resolve my problems (no more media scanner in task manager)

hmm, im having a hard time understanding whats going on there, but i do switch my cam to sd card as location storage.
regarding your question, i tend to kill tasks always after i finish using my phone, in fact i clear the ram.
this is what im having right now, considering that i slept 8 hours of these 18 there, it's way too much, oh and yeah, i have the extended battery kit (official one), one more reason to moan.

Just as a precaution, copy cache folder from SD internal to SD external and delete everything in SD internal DCIM folder. Something else is draining your battery. That 18 hours is too little IMO

/storage/sdcard0/DCIM only contains Photo and Video folders, both empty. im using the stock file manager, i guess what u've asked me for may be hidden. However, there is a "/storage/extSdCard/DCIM/Camera/cache"
It is hidden in mine, but if you see the one on excard than you should see one in internal card. You have to look for wakelocks -- install BetterBatteryStats. I don't know any other method. That app will basically tell you anything.
Give this a read. It will get you started on how to find what's causing the wakes

[Q][I9505] No deep sleep - msm_hsic_host

Hi everyone. I managed to get my hands on a beautiful blue I9505, had some issues while SIM unlocking it, but that's done and I am enjoying the phone very much.
Now, I do have a problem with it. The thing is, it simply will NOT go to deep sleep. Constantly hovering on 384 MHz with msm_hsic_host using a massive 90+ percent of awake time. It is driving me nuts. Our colleagues and friends over at Nexus 4 forums had an identical issue, and I read 57 pages of posts and used all their tips and tricks. Nothing helped.
Attached to this post you can see:
- the original Nexus 4 forum topic - [Q] msm_hsic_host - Nexus 4 forums
- The Google Code page where people complained about this - Google Code - Issue 41855 - "msm_hsic_wakelock" process on Nexus 4 causes severe battery drain
- my battery usage and BBS stats - attached to this post
- Qualcomm's fix for the issue - link 1 and link 2 at Code Aurora
I can't make heads or tails of any of this. The only thing that remains to do today (which I will do) is to flash a custom ROM and kernel for my I9505.
Thanks to anyone who will chime in to this discussion.

clear dalvik cache and see again if it does enter Deep sleep or not, as everyone said its an application if not it must be a setting like sync, scan, or even that damn old wifi advanced settings that kept usual phones awake... reconfigure.
Insomnia
My phone won't sleep, won't time out and tapping the power button won't shut off the display. This happened just after deleting bootsamsung.qng, samsungloop.qng and shutdown.qng.
I'd replace the three deleted files, but they just grew and replaced themselves minus the carrier logo. The Baseband version now says: unknown. I stopped and installed google maps, that didn't help.
The good news is, those pink blocks are gone. The bad, I did a factory reset and noticed my cell network connectivity is gone. Maybe that's the sloppy work cutting down the SIM, or maybe something else? I've reinserted that sucker a dozen times and no joy. Do you know if the phone will stay awake without cell service? Putting it in airplane mode doesn't help.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your consideration.

Read this about the wakelock, has to do with bad/lower 3g connections:
http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...3jjunrjohBvz3zaNvrYSO5g&bvm=bv.46751780,d.d2k
Thanks for the link.
This seems to be a logical explanation, but I've disabled 3G, and it still happens.
Plus it happens when in airplane mode, without any (cell) activity. I'm pretty sure that the kernel isn't configured properly.
Is there a known kernel / stock firmware version where this problem is fixed?
It appears that I have solved my problem.
I reset the device to factory settings and then restored apps, 5 by 5 in 30 min intervals. I still haven't restored all my apps, but so far I restored some 80%, here is the current state of things.
Very interesting.
Please keep us posted once you find out which app caused the problems, or if the factory reset fixed it.
Did you freeze or uninstall any apps?
Did you remove the T-Mobile bloatware?

I froze the same apps I had frozen before. If I find the app that caused the problems, I will report back. So far it's all good, 6h of use and I'm at 87% battery, wifi and 3G always on
P.S. I have Wanam's 1.0 installed
EDIT: 22h30 min, 2h4min screen on time, 48% battery.
I'd say that's an okay result.

[Q] Android System is draining my battery a lot since I updated my phone to Kitkat

Before the update everything was fine. Now if I turn on the screen or listen to music the phone would awake (it would show that it was asleep in jellybean). When I turn off the screen and I am not listening to music then my phone falls asleep. Android system used to be awake under 20 mins over a 15-30 hr span now it can be well over an hour in 4-9 hr span. I did a factory reset yesterday already, uninstalled all of my apps and reinstalled them when I seen that the problem still exist. I googled the problem, but can't find a solution. Is anyone else getting a Android System battery drain like me.

Yes, I am having the same problem. I was told to do a factory reset but I cant even back up my phone with kies because it the MTP driver keeps failing to install and Kies says I have to use Kies 3 even though the Samsung Site says 3 is for the Galaxy Note..

oh wow. You definitely have an app that is not liking kitkat. Your phone does not fall asleep when you turn your screen off. Im really trying to figure out why your phone is doing that. Im going to assume that "lookout" and "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" are the problem. My opinion is that you don't need those as much as you think you do. they are most likely the cause of your drainage. My phone falls asleep as soon as i turn off the screen. Now i have 90% battery life with almost an hr of SOT left, and thats on 4g LTE the entire time.

I had alot of problems when on wifi, don't use it anymore and sticking with 4g. I'm at 30% left with just over 4 hours screen on. I'm guessing it's something either Google or Samsung have syncing more often on wifi, on wifi I'd be dead at 3 or 4 hours screen on time

Thats interesting. I haven't used my phone on wifi yet, because its a little inconsistent right now. If your phone is acting up while connected to wifi then it got to be something on samsung's end. You can end up with just over 5 and a half hrs of SOT if you stick to 4g and don't want any problems. I would keep testing how things go on both wifi and 4g over the next couple of days if i were you to see if the problems continues though. What problems are you getting while connected to wifi?

Another one of the major problems I am having is that sometimes my apps don't work. When i clicked on the camera it did not show up the app opens but the camera does not turn on. This leads to a major lag and when I try to press the home button it does not work. Then my phone's screen just shuts off and I cant turn it back on via the home button or the power button.
This also leads to the phone getting hot and losing the battery very quickly..
oh and btw the S5 does not seem to impressive to me..

I had the same problem at first. Waited a few days and it still drained badly. Then I went into startups and turned off a few of the apps I never use. Working fine now.

What apps did you disabled, and could you include a screen shot of your battery activity if you don't mind.

Same problem as the op. Android system would take alot and phone wouldn't sleep. But on 4g it sleeps. Could be an app I have I dunno. 4g is fast here so it's not a problem for me

i reset the phone and didn't install any apps and come to find out that its something that is already on the phone. I had no apps on my phone and android system and android os were in the top three that was taking up a lot of battery.
I recently had an issue with Android OS draining a lot of battery. I read somewhere that disabling stuff from Google sync that you don't use can help, so I disabled sync for all Google services except the ones I use, such as contacts, calendar, app data, people details, and play books. I rebooted and watched my battery for the next couple of days. And it worked. My battery life is a lot better, and Android OS is not using nearly as much battery as it did before. Perhaps this will help you guys?
***UPDATE on HOW TO FIX***
I HAD terrible batt drain with nae.. so bad that i left the device on the charger overnight qnd woke up to 35% batt... i got mad and reflashed stockish v6.. but.. batt drain was the same...
so.. here is what i did... i ended up flashing negalite r6 and the batt was so bad my phone would be dead within 1hr.. SO, FOR KICKS, i reflashed the MK2 modem and HOLY COW!, problem solved!!
im currently on negalite r6 ( a nae rom ) but using the mk2 modem and my batt drain problems are gone. in fact im getting great batt life. i didnt change the kernal or anything. i have flashed ktoonsez kernal over it, and it has not effected batt life at all...
in conclusion, if ur batt life sux, try reflashing mk2 modem.. it worked for me.. and yes 4g, mms, calls, and wifi work without any problem...
hope this helps

I don't even have sync on to help with battery life. Then again i never have it on unless i need to have something pushed to me.

[Q] Battery issues/questions

So, I've been having some battery issues lately and I can't really tell why. I haven't been doing anything too extreme, but my battery is almost dead within 12 hours of a charge, and the highest usage is mostly the Kernel and/or OS. I know next to nothing about that side of things, so I exported reports from GSam, and I'm hoping someone will be able to translate them for me if there's an obvious problem. Thanks in advance!
(I've also uninstalled Boxer, I only had it because Pro was free yesterday.)

Keep the location enabled.
Are you using any of the smart stay/air view etc. controls?
If not turn them ALL off.

As far as I know, location is always turned on (meaning I never turn it off myself). One of the first things I did was turn off all the smart crap, and turn off every piece of bloatware I could in the settings (I'm not rooted).
When was the last time that your phone was restarted?

I usually restart it every other day, give or take. It's gone a couple days without it before. I don't usually have it off for more than a couple minutes at a time though.

This is beginning to sound much more complicated.
Did you install any apps recently?
How old is the phone?
Also do you have data/wifi on all the time?

That's not good. :-/
I install apps often, but I just as often uninstall them...I guess that's not much help. If it was one of them though, wouldn't it show up under the battery log?
It's approaching a year old, I got it last November I believe.
Yes, I keep my Wifi and data on all the time.
Bad network will drain your battery. Check how the signal is.
Android OS and Kernel are normal between 12-25% on 4.4.2. It's an issue with the battery reporting.
It looks like you've got a wakelock. 12% per hour means it's not going into deep sleep.
Check Wakelock Detector to see if it's going into deep sleep or not. (It needs root for everything else, but that still works.)

Stated in reply post that the phone is not rooted.
My advice will be to uninstall apps one at time to find the one causing the drain.

And neither is mine. Wakelock detector still works in the tab that shows Deep Sleep vs Awake. As I said by 'Everything else requires root, but that still works'.

That varies. At home, I have great signal (full-signal 4G, router is never more than 20 feet away). Some places in town, I can drop to 3G, especially my grandparents (although my grandma does have a router I'm connected to). There's a weird (unrelated?) bug where if I drop to 3G, I either have to turn airplane mode on or wait several hours until it reverts back to 4G, even though I'll be back in a verified 4G area.

I will definitely check that out and use it tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll get back to you on what it says. What generally causes the wakelocks, specific apps? Or just poorly set-up preferences?

Usually apps. Facebook, Skype, some games. Although Mediascanner(Android process) is also known to be responsible for it quite often.

It looks like PayPal was one of the culprits? For some reason?
I did find out I could root extremely easily, so did so and downloaded Greenify, so I'm hoping I can tweak enough to get my battery life back.

That does seem to be the case... Either uninstall paypal or drop it in the Greenify list.
Google Search is probably either the widget or you're using Google Now.

By widget, do you mean the search bar? I use Nova, and I've removed that, so it must be Google Now. I don't use it often, but it does leave me weather cards and shipping info, so would that be it?

I don't think they're related, but I can't be a hundred percent sure. You can try disabling both Google Search ones under apps -> all, see what that does to the info updates. If it scrambles them, just turn them back on.
(There's two Google Search, one is the search bar, the other is the app related to it.)
With that and Paypal dealt with, battery life should improve significantly.

Happy to help Let's hope that solves it! Also don't forget to greenify Paypal (Or uninstall it if you don't need it), as that seems to be the main culprit.
