The Samsung Vibrant looks like an awesome phone and I might pick one up. But I would like to know if it is possible to remove the T-Mobile branding (or any other branding for that matter).
*DISCLAIMER* Please do not try to remove the branding off of your phone if you do not know what you are doing (which is probably most of us). I will not be responsible for any damages that you or your phone might incur.
With that being said, my first suggestion would be to find out if the front case can be replaced just as easily as the back case. Can anyone confirm this?
If replacements for the front covers exist , that gives us some room to experiment. On the other hand, if it is not possible to swap it out then this whole idea could be too risky for most.
Also, can someone confirm if the branding is laser-etched onto the phone case?
I was thinking about something like that too.
Now we have to wait till we have more info on the phone
I believe the front branding is actualy under the glass layer, probably the only option would be to buy a replacement screen ? Not sure if you could get under there to remove the branding. Its some kind of metalic material.
All the branding seems printed, not etched.

Yep, this is what it looks like to me too.
I wish carriers and manufacturers would learn some taste from Apple and keep their sets cleaner. AT&T was basically not allowed to stick their logo on the iPhone, and design and good taste only benefited from it.
This is why I bought the unbranded Galaxy S, so I don't end up with some ugly carrier logo on the face of my phone (I wish the Samsung logo stayed on the back too).
This has really been annoying me. Not only is it branded, they doubled up. Carrier on top, manufacturer on bottom. Totally unnecessary and very ugly. I love that my Pre has very little branding on it, and none at all on the front of the phone.
I'm not stupid, I don't need to be reminded that it was made by Samsung every time I look at it.
Does Samsung sell replacement front covers for the Galaxy s? If so, it might just be as easy as swapping your branded cover with an unbranded Galaxy s one.
Don't forget that you can always go tacky by using the good ol' black sharpie.
Do you know how much it decreases in value on ebay once you take a sharpie to the logo?

Yeahhh it lookks like that to me too.
Maybe we are able to use this guide? IFFFF it's not laser etched

and we can use this guide to get the glass out?

Has anyone else seen one of these, and is as pissed about it as I am. Alltel is getting the mogul with a black case and I want one oh so badly, but considering I switched from alltel's **** service to begin with I am not gonna go back. Think it is possible to get a hold of some black case plastic parts and swap them minus the softkeys on the front?
For the ones who have not seen here is a link:
http://content.alltel.com/flash/3DPHONES/UTSPPC6800.html
PS I ****ing hate alltel
I've actually had one for a few months now They're pretty stylin if I say so myself.

just wait a little while. verizon is buying alltel, so you might be able to pick up the alltel mogul and have verizon add the ESN to their database.
I know that I had seen a website selling the casings, even a Sprint branded black one. I don't really remember the site, though I think I read about it on ppcgeeks. I'll post here if I find anything.
I have an all black one with no branding, its a pre-prod case with new hardware
so, uh.... where'd you get it?
that was the most irritating loading screen ever... looking at it, i wanted to punch someone in the face.
the phone looks nice tho

im looking for the link as well... i know its SOMEWHERE... i had it... about a month ago... there is a site that sells the black shells for the moguls WITHOUT branding...
The 1 DOWNFALL to this site and the shells is... NO GPS ANTENNA...
BUT!!! if your going to replace your shell ANYWAY you should be EASILY able to remove the one from your stock shell and place it into the black one.. (i cannot remember if it has the plastic fittings but super glue or super thin sticky tape will work just as well)
EDIT: Found the youtube of the black sprint branded one... still not the website that sells them tho...

You can sand down the ppc6800 stock housing and it will become black. Problem is you cannot sand it down where icons are painted.
I am thinking of doing it when I get some free time but I am not sanding down the buttons.
Sorry its not a statement but rather a question. Does anyone know how to remove it? I understand the back of the battery cover is slightly rubberised is that correct? So could we use nail polish remover or gently scrape the logo away with our fingernail? Or is there somewhere to buy a replacement cover with no logo?
Thanks!
i've heard you can buy replacement covers online for around 15 quid. sounds like a lot of money to me though. i would try removing the logo with something like white spirit. i did this on my laptop to remove the Advent branding from the lid.
For some reason when I bought the handset it was written as Orange. But it is fully unlocked and Unbranded so no Orange Crap software nor logos on the device. Is it meant to be like this or am I the lucky one?

Mine came direct from Orange, so isn't unlocked (or at least I don't think it is - haven't tried to be honest), but it still came without any Orange software or logos (other than the one on the back cover)
Luckily, on this phone at least, Orange have seen fit not to strangle it
(Unlike Vodaphone and their X1s...)
there've been a lot of ppl who "unbrand" their phone physically this way... Google it and you will defo. find it.
Mine is also Orange, but tbh, I like Orange logo , and mine is locked (tried with T-mobile sim) but no Orange's software... its using the generic ROM i think.

As stated previous mine also seems totally unbranded from Orange.
Orange contract - seems totally unbranded except for the logo on the back.
Oh, and Orange Plus in the programs.

Sorry but that is not a Touch HD cover. Looks like the cover for another HTC Touch phone.
Usually you can get rid of operator logos on the case with a sugar cube.
De Sugar is hard enough to get rid of the paint, but soft enough to not hurt the case itself.
However I never tried it on a rubberized surface, so I do not take the responsability.
I have gottn rid of logos really well with ink erasers, but again not on a rubberised surface
DONT TRY Sugar Cubes
I have tried on my tytn2 from orange which has fairly the same back material and I ended up with a whole on the devices back cover.
Well basically not a whole but what I am saying is. Behind the Orange logo there is no rubber it is metal or plastic to make the cover hard. So the Logo it self is part of the rubberized back. If you take it off it wil look nasty and will spoil ur phone's look completely coz it willl be different coloured unless you paint it.
Well Its upto the USer. what he decides to do with his BLACKSTONE. HAHA
Like others I cracked the screen on my beloved nexus one. keys and this phone is a pocket obviously dont mix
So i jamp straight on ebay grabbed a screen for £35 and sat down to repair screen.
Took one look at phone and thought better of it and headed to my mates phones shop who is quiet good at repairing phones.
we spent an hour stripping it all out from the back before finally been able to put the new digitizer (screen) in,
then whilst putting it all back together we managed to damage 2 of the stupid little copper antena's on the bottom of device,,cellular radio antennas to be precise. we tried to solder them back onto the circuit board but did'nt work...
now i gotta a £400 phone which works perfectly but only gets a cellular signal outside but not inside. and consequently its on sale on ebay for parts for someone because the only place to get them from is HTC,,,,and they literally rape you for them.
and me been me i'd rather buy something else after seening how cheap tacky bits of made in china rubbish they put in this handset.
what the phone can do is awesome...but seriously guys if you ever get to see one of these stripped down you'll soon loose faith in HTC's components. they are cheaper than cheap...almost to the point you cannot handle them physically...a total disgrace!
rant over lol
You screwed your phone yourself and now blaming it on HTC... Just send your phone to HTC before you break some more components in the process of fixing one....
its going on ebay....the parts on this phone are pants.....motorola droid here i come!!!!!
1. Literally rape you? **** off.
2. Chinese components in a phone made by a Taiwanese company? Shock horror.
Phone antennas are fragile on all phones, sucks to be you, but you've no-one to blame but yourself.
Lol dude, almost everything is made in China now. How about u just stop buying stuff now?
Yea. You're right. This thing is crappy. I mean I've only dropped mine with no case on it 5 or 6 times now and with the case in 7-8 times. this crappy thing still works. guess I'm going to have drop it off the top of a building. What's amazing is how people like yourself break a phone and then blame the manufacture, get over yourself. YOU broke the phone YOU TRIED to fix it when you should have sucked it up and sent it back to HTC to get it fixed. Probably cost you what, $150. You have no one to blame but yourself. I need an otterbox so when I get pissed I can throw this thing against the wall. theni when / if it breaks I can start a thread on how cheap the cases are made because they are from China. ok. rant done. lol.
Wow, what an idiot. Where do you think moto droids are made? China thats where, but no worries, in your hands it'll be another paper weight.
Speaking of components can we talk about the "flash" on this camera? Its really shameful. If they are going to sell a phone in a way that doesn't afford the consumer the opportunity to try it out (in a store) that's fine but its components really need to work. I shouldn't be put through the embarrassment of maneuvering my wife for 10 minutes trying to get a picture that isn't completely black only to be forced to use my mothers 6 year old pink Casio. Thanks HTC, you're awful. I wish Google, which is awesome, would head over to Sony or Samsung and give me hardware worth at least $300. Hell id even pay upwards of $575 for something like that.
So, I hate my phones being branded with the AT&T logo. I went to one of my local AT&T stores today, and they told me what I expected: that even if I ordered an unsubsidized phone over the tele, that they'd still be branded with their logo.
Looking online at Negri Electronics SGH-I337 (unlocked), they are all unbranded (but they're also not yet in stock). I was wondering if all that was just a ruse, un-updated pictures that'll be corrected when they first list the phone as "in stock", or, heaven forbid, the true UNBRANDED phone that I covet so? Anyone order an AT&T phone from Negri before?
Here's to hoping it won't be branded!
Why not just get the AT&T version then replace the back cover with one that's not branded?

Are they only branded on the back? Last AT&T phone I bought had the logo and name on the front, and the logo again on the back.
Thanks for the idea though, I was about to drop an extra $50 for something I didn't need.
I suppose back covers will be easy enough to get soon anyways. :fingers-crossed:

The logo would probably come off with nail polish or Goo Gone. Either that or cover it with a case. I'd personally go with the one I could save the most money on. Just wait until Verizon comes out with theirs with the logo on the button .

Yeah... That kind of stuff just sickens me. Why do you have to go ruin a perfectly beautiful phone with your logo, when you had NOTHING to do with research/development/production/advertising/etc?
Yeah, I tried the whole penny scratch-off thing before, and it scratched the **** out of my glass... Don't ever want to try removing that stuff again.
I don't disagree with this at all, but it sounds like you never had an SIII where the branding was identical, just a small ATT globe logo on the back of the phone, nothing on the front.... you must have had one sharp penny to scratch the glass! Pennies are what everyone used to get them off the battery cover on the SIII, and while I don't care enough to spend time modifying that when I have a car dock to get working, I like saving the stock battery covers for resale in the end, so I'm leaving this one mint and getting a new one to ruin over time - my aftermarket SIII battery door is going in the trash and the stock one that had never been installed is going to the new owner when I sell it on eBay this week!
This case looks awesome! I love the watch face on the front - too cool. Only place I can find that has them is Expansys for a slightly inflated price. Does anyone know where these will be for sale in the US? AT&T didn't have them when I bought the phone. All of them on eBay are being shipped from South Korea. I was really hoping for Amazon or something similar so I didn't have to wait a few weeks for delivery. Here's to hoping for a timely availability, I guess.

I was hoping you were a verizon customer, i would tell you to go to a corporate store to pick one up, but sorry, i have no advice for you on where to get it since you are AT&T.
I had it for a couple of days and took it back. Since there is no magnetic closure to hold it closed, after having it open for a while, when you go to close it, it pops back up, and slowly closes. That and besides the gimicky cool factor of it, it lost its novelty (to me anyway) after a day. Enjoying having just a plain ol' TPU case on it w/a screen protector.
Nonetheless, good luck in your search. It may suit your needs, but not for me.

Bummer. I bought the GS4 version for my wife and it actually stays closed pretty well; was hoping this one would be the same! Maybe after it's more worn in it will be different? We will see...I think I'll try one out still.
Is the Verizon one all marked up with their logo?
-Collin-
The "bendy part", or spine, if you will, is a bit thicker then it is on the GS4... good for stability, bad for performance. The Verizon is logo free! But with the different buttons and location of the noise cancelling mic (yours above-right of the camera), the vzw model wouldn't fit. and the vzw model is allegedly thicker as well.
