I own a HTC HD2, and use for geocaching: GCZII; latest version. (..45)
I do use this great software for for 2 years now. It runs fine on my HTC touchflo, HTC HD but not at my HD2. It's not the general problem (cannot download...) this causes by the server of groundspeak.
My problem: the list is downloaded without probs, internet-connection is good, GPS is fixed. When I want to download the caches themselves, then after a while (after 'bout 250 kb) the prog shuts down. I tried for 500 caches, for 20 etc. but when I download them one by one, most of the time it works well (not always). I do have another fine prog: Gatecacher, but... the same problem appears. So I suppose it will not be that software. My device is clean and empty. ROM: 1.66.404.1; radio 2.07.51.22_2 It's not the provider 'cause my other devices have no problem.
It realy frustrates me 'cause after 3 wks I will be on holiday up to sweden, where are many(!) hidden geocaches.
Is here a real freak (yes) who can help me? Please..?
thx anyway.

Mine saves the list fine, but when viewing the caches themselves, it closes without error.
Their website doesn't exactly help with lost passwords either, just shows a blank page!
GCZII latest version is working again!! (....45)
I've got the solution: disable the static menu, so do not activate any box. Works fine now! Gatecacher might have the same prob. I'll try this evening.
gr Willem
I had the exact same problem - with disabling the static menu it is working fine now again! THANXXXXXXXXXXX a lot, wivo!!!!
seems to be a bug
do you guys also have the issue with version .47
for me it was crashing not always but some times when opening the "description".
When I tryed your hint

Just found this thread!
I have an HD2 running Eleganica v3. I downloaded GCz II and it worked for abit then I got the "Cache not found" error. On top of that it interfered with my phone so much (reset defaults, froze the phone, etc.) that I had to do a hard reboot and reinstall of the ROM to get it back where it worked (the phone). Was this just a freak thing or is there a conflice? I'm trying to get into geocaching and would like to use the GPS on the HD2 for that if possible.
Just had the same result with gpsed, another program.
Thanks!
i tried to search any nearby caches. then comes an error. (check your login data!) i know that is all right. my gc language is changed to english. gps is good. what can i do?
i use the garmin asus m10.

I am having problems with my XDA (T-Mobile Phone Edition). Here are the symptoms:
- The system runs extremely slowly (it takes several seconds for the start menu to come up, for instance).
- So, I soft-reset the device.
- The T-Mobile splash screen comes on with version info (4.01.16), but with an *empty* R and G above them. (No radio version displayed, and no whatever-G-stands-for displayed).
- I wait.
- I wait some more.
- After waiting about 20 minutes, the Today screen finally comes on. Again, the system is extremely slow, and the phone part does not work at all.
- If I try to boot into the Wallaby boot loader, I get the dreaded "GSM Error".
A little more info:
I had upgraded to 4.01.16 at a ROM kitchen about a week ago, as well as upgraded the radio stack to the latest T-Mobile (6.25.02 I believe.). The system was running fine until yesterday.
When I first discovered the issue yesterday, I tried several attemps to reboot, then finally had to resort to a hard-reset.
The hard-reset succeeded, then I reinstalled all my applications, settings, and data. I did a couple of soft-resets to be sure it was working. It was.
This morning, I noticed the extreme slowness issue again, and soft-reset the device, and the same thing happened.
So, I happened to be near my local T-Mobile retailer, and explained the issue. He played with the device for awhile and was on the phone with a technician from T-Mobile. He hard-reset the phone and declared it fixed.
He did say he had to change the internet settings from internet3 to internet2. My internet had been working fine all week, and I'm sure I was on internet2, but in his words, "If you are on the wrong internet setting, you can't connect to the internet, the phone, or anything." Now I know he's either full of it, or misinformed, although he was extremely helpful and pleasant.
So....the question is: What *is* going on with my phone? I saw a reference on this board to something called repair.zip, but I didn't see it associated with any particular symptoms, so I'm hesitant to try it yet.
I'm 90% sure that my phone isn't permanently fixed, so I'm putting this out to the gallant men and women of xda-developers for insight.
Thanks!

Windows Mobile 2003 has a realy nasty bug that microsoft is aware of and is providing a hotfix for.
WM2003 tends to not delete any notifications it collects from applications.
On Soft-Resets there are even more notifications wich in addition to the not deleted notifications from before add up and add up to more and more slow down the OS.
My advice since i'm extremly lazy and don't want to search for the exact link for the fix:
Go to this kitchen: http://xda.weblink.net/
And check the following 3 options:
create 'System Tools' subfolder under 'Programs'
- Check Notifications (Version 1.6 ) (29 kB)
- Notification Clear Fix (Version 1.1 ) (5 kB)
Registry hacks and defaults
- Fix 'multiple resets make device slow' bug (not A.30.0x)
while the first one gives you an application to manualy delete outdated notifications, the second one seems to be the official MS fix for the problem, while the 3rd seems to be an inofficial fix from the good guys here at XDA dev.
always worked for me

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure that I selected these options when I cooked my ROM. Looking in my startup folder, I see clear_notify.exe.
And I'm not entirely convinced that it is the problem related to the notifications bug anyway. What I'm seeing is that the entire GSM functionality seems to have been blown away somehow, and the device is acting as if something were cranking at 100% CPU.
Hi ...
I faced what you are talking about long time ago ... this is purely RSU problem and especially if the "Debug/Calibrate" option of the GSM is triggered by mistake or due to ROM bug.
Try to do GSM reset from the bootloader GSM menu ... it may take many times to stop this symptom ... but don't try to change the band!
Good luck.

when you see "GSM Error" from bootloader.
it means you have bad radio stack upgrade, you need send to T-mobile to exhchange. so first thing you need send it back.
if they cannot help you, I could help you to repair it at a fee!

old boy this is a problem that is solved here daily. Search for "radio stack" on this site. You are sure to find the solution
Famous "GSM error" after upgrading,
The best way is to send to your service provider to repair (exchange) , see All USA based sad Radio Stack (Failed) users
you may see some solutions in the forum, but most of them not working (not duplicable) , it could make XDA worse. some people lucky, most people not.... search keyword "GSM Error".
Hello all,
last week I got my new HTC Magician, here in Austria so called "T-Mobile MDA Compact". Unfortunately I have the problem, that my device freezes from time to time (at least 1 time a day). This happens most of the time when using the T-Mobile IntelliDialer, but sometimes it happens even when I do not use the device at all.
When the problem occurs, I am not able to make or receive a call, the upper status LED is gone as well (no signal, no blinking).
When I got the device I had ROM 1.13 installed, but after I heard that maybe this could cause the problems, I installed version 1.12 from T-Mobile site, but still have the same problems.
Now I am really out of ideas, don't know what to do. It seems I am not the only one with this problem, so I am afraid it hase no sense to switch the device with a new one @ a T-Mobile shop. Or do you guys have a "good", normal running Magician w/o this bug?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Greetings, Matthias
Helle again,
As you've got the same problems on rom 1.12 & 1.13 and you got it just for a week I'd say go back and get another one. There are people with simular issues and I guess there are much more users without it, like myself.
So my advice use your warrenty, make a backup of your contacts etc. first with sprite (trial version is available) or AS or whatever, saves you a lot of times. I won't restore the apps just reinstall, maybe it is some combination of a faulty program & with a backup you get that back as well. And it gives you the chance to determine, if possible, what's causing the freeze.
Good luck, M
ok, then thanks again
Today I made a ROM update @ T-Mobile. If that did not the trick (I will look for errors the next days), then I will use my warranty and change the device itself. I hope they don't send it to technical support somewhere, but give me another one instead...
Greetings and thanks for your infos, Matthias

Hi,
I have been using my Magician for almost 8-9 months .. moving from ROM version 1.11 to 1.13 WWE BigStorage (radio 1.11 to 1.13 as well).Recently (last 1mth or so) I start to notice that I have a strange problem similiar to you, my 'radio' would 'hang' where I cannot receive or make calls, can't even receive or send SMS. However, my signal (the top bar signal strengh) will still work. This is really fustrating .. because the PDA still works, I won't know when my Magician 'hangs' ... (at least until I try to send SMS or make a call).
I've downgraded to Radio 1.11 & ROM 1.11 ... I'm still facing this problem, but not as often (sometime once in 2 days). The strange thing is that my wife who is using a Magician as well, is facing the same problem (symptom arrise almost the same time together). Both our phone used to be fine.
So far, no luck trying to locate the source of the problem, and I don't think both our magician's hardware got screwed at the same time ... I have a feeling, it has something to do with GPRS ... gut feel ... but cannot confirm.
Anyone face this problem and managed to solve it, I would appreciate any pointers ... Many thanks!
Note : I don't install additional ROM software such as CallerID, etc ... I only use intellidialer.
Hello, you could be right with your GPRS feeling, I have it as well...
Is the LED of your device blinking, when you have one of these freezes?
Hi guys,
Don't know if this gets you on the right track, but a few months ago I had major memory problems with my magician. Thought it was a virus, probably was one or two today plug-ins that consumed all of my memory very rapidly. Think of plug-ins like OO journalbar. Didn't look at the led blinking I just soft-reseted to solved the prob. for a few minutes. Very inconvenience when you're navigating in a car.
Since I ditched these plug-ins eveything is fine, tried them afterwards of course & noticed the memory leaks.
When you're not using anything like those apps. it must be something else. Maybe there's something on the forum.
Cheers, M
I thought about some apps or plugins as problem source too, so I refreshed my device without installing any additional app to it -- no success. So I still have these hangups, even if I have no tool installed...
Sounds like really s..tty problem.
Does the use of gprs or phone functionalities make any difference? what happens when you skip the ext-rom installation (hard-reset & soft-reset just before the customization kicks in) & go for basic WM2003, without all the TMO apps&branding?
M
... tried this allready, but without any difference, device freezes serveral times a day. I would say it's a hardware fault, can't think of another problem source.
Yesterday I spoke with a T-Mobile tech @ T-Mobile support. He told me, he is not aware of this problem and he always had "good" devices. And he updated my ROM to latest version...
Since I still have the problem, I will change my device now and see if this makes any difference!
haimat,
I think exchanging your magician is the best option, the techi might be right in saying he only encountered good ones. Haven't found much error reports like yours, so the rest must be good (look at the bright side). Hope you can trade it directly without any hassle & enjoy your magician for the rest of it's lifetime.
Found some people with a universal with simular probs. didn't read all posts though there were so many. So can't tell you how it ended, it's about a JasJas that hangs and hangs and ...
In the meantime good luck with the change of your device.
Cheers, M
Hardware: Dopod 818Pro
ROM: Qtek S200, 2.20.7.34 World Wide English, Date:7/10/06, Radio: 02.47.21, ExtROM:2.20.7.114
Software Installed: E-Sword 3.01 (Bible Software), Mapking 2007, Select-Radio, MobiPocket
How's the problem happened:
After Hard Reset, simply install above software, and start the 10 hrs test by launching E-Sword, Mapking and Select Radio, keep the radio playing, by sharing Internet connection through USB to PC.
10 hrs later, or around, you will possibly find either,
a. some icons "white out", not able to run by clicking on them, if you do click, they will give you a program is not certificated, or something like that being mentioned at other threads.
b. Today Screen lost some lines.
c. System may hang later.
IMHO,
1. It looks rather like the GDI resource running out in win98 system.
2. The originally seemed random error now can be repeated by above procedure, time related, always around 10 hrs.
3. Not to specific software, any above software can cause the same problem, just choose SelectRadio as example, since it also test the network connection.
Anybody experience the same problem and any suggestion? It's not a big one, however, annoying when you need to keep running something.
It would be very grateful if somebody can offer me a suggestion on the cause or how to debug it.

Bro, with all my grateful heart, i would like to ask you for one favor. Could you pls be more specific on your PDA phone hardware (Dopod, or Qtek) and how long after your phone on did that happen? A clean installation?
I had pinned down the problem to my Home Screen Plugin from HTC, due to possible memory leak or heap corruption.
Now i upgrade to Korand's WM6 ROM without problem.
May still want to know the cause of problem to avoid it in the future.
Anyway, i will still download your suggested ROM for dissection...to see the difference. Thanks.
I've just installed FRING....
Sometimes ago it worked correctly on my ELF....
But now, after I flashed a WM 6.1 rom, it doesn't work anymore....
I launch it and "Fring is LOADING" window appears, but the program doesn't boot up....
Any chance to fix this problem?
Cheers....
Whats about asking the fring developers/support?
Maybe someone here has the same problem.....
And a solution to fix it!
There are problems with compatibility of VOIP apps and WM6.1. Skype doesn't work too.
I ma also having the same problem
Hey guys,
Im new to the XDA developer site, recently i have upgraded my Imate Jas Jam from WM5(Telestra) to WM6(3 Network) using "HERM_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.54.707.3_6275_CustomRUU" I have downloaded fring from www.fring.com/cab
Installation is successful, but when i start Fring it simplay shows up the screen which says fring is loading then close application, tried too many times could'nt make this to work, any ideas...
your help is appreciated
Hey Guys,
I have just had the very same thing. I have installed FRING on a new Kaiser. It starts to load and then does nothing. I have left it for a while and as in your cases nothing happens.
I was able to soft reset the phone and then 'remove' the programme. so that I didn't need to rebuild the whole PDA - done that enough times today!
What I do know however is that FRING DOES work on Windows Mobile v6.1 ROMS as I have had it working correctly on another machine that I have rebuilt (Hermes)
I will continue to test.

OK gents, not good news I am affraid - this isn't something that is FRINGs responsibility seemingly. It is seemingly more related to the ROMS that are being used. This would add up as it worked with my HERMES running a 6.1 ROM but not this KAISER equally running a 6.1.
I have contacted the FRING development team to see if there is anything that they can do however I am not holding my breath.
Kind regards
Warren
I've got the same problem
Fring is always loading and nothing more happen.
I've been experiencing the same problem... It loads up....the only thing I can see is the "Welcome logo" and nothing else...
I am using HTC Touch elfin
I think it's because of the cooked ROM I've been using on my phone - since didn't have any problems with Fring while was running on the original HTC Touch ROM.
I had the same issue and gave up on it, contacted Fring, was told that they are aware of the problem are looking in to it.
Solved in last version a few days ago. Download at www.fring.com
Its the same problem with the new version
bingo!!! fortunately it works for me..I am using the elfin with the specs in my siggie..fring works. downloaded the latest version. after first install, it was stuck..then did a soft reset and it started automatically.
Hi all,
since today all of my gps-programs (smartrunner, terracrosser, on the road panel) i´m normally using (at last yesterday) do not find a gps-siganl anymore.
I´ve tried htc gps-tool, but it is saying "failed to send NMEA command"
In settings the internal gps is set to com4, harware (external) no com, managed by windows.
Any ideas, or is there a program to check if the gps-chip is generally ok?
Thanks and all the best.
Coincidentally, about 5 days ago I found that my GPS on my R1A ROM stopped functioning after exactly 2 minutes. Tomtom and all other GPS apps would get a fix normally, then crash the phone after 2 mins (Tomtom goes gray) and a soft-reset is needed to get the phone going again. I tried reinstalling most of the apps, but nothing seemed to help.
In the end, I took the gutsy way out, flashed my X1 to R3A (even though there's rumours that it's not the 'official' release), and everything has been good ever since.
I know it's not really a 'solution', but I sure as hell couldn't find the fix. I've had my Xperia since the November release with R1A, and it just did this to me about a week ago.
Anyways, happy with R3A having skipped R2A. Not HUGE benefits to upgrading, but definitely some positives.
Hi Scar,
flashing to R3A means that all programs and data will be deleted?
Isn´t there a way to reinstall the gps-driver, like at "big windows"?
How did you flashed? With SE Update Service?
I am a X1 User for about 7 weeks, so i do not had such issues until now and flashing would be my first time.
Any other ideas around?
Thanks and all the best
Hi mrx_bln,
Flashing to R3A will mean that your device data will be lost. If you use ActiveSync, then all of your Contacts/Appts/Tasks/etc. will get re-synced when you re-create the partnership after flashing. You also might want to search the forums for "PIM Backup" which will allow you to set a "Custom" backup to grab your files, as well as its ability to save Call Logs + SMS.
I flashed my ROM by using the microSD method, which is to place the (official) ROM in the root of the Storage Card, and have it named "kovsimg.nbh". You'll find more info from Jack Leung in the ROMs section of the Xperia X1 forum here.
As far as I know, there is no way to reinstall the GPS driver. If you have never got a signal though, and your symptoms aren't like mine were (I got a fix for 2 mins then it always froze after that), then you might want to leave it outside for 10 minutes to ensure that the GPS isn't working. Also, run QuickGPS to make sure you've got the latest data file.
Hopefully you can figure it out, as flashing is a bit of a pain to have to reinstall and reconfigure everything. The silver lining to that dark cloud is that you can ensure that the device is running mint.
Let us all know how you make out!
If your GPS crashes satnav apps after a couple of minutes, try deleting your 'extra.bin' file.
This is the QuickGPS download file which is likely to be the culprit, and you can always download another which is likely to be okay.
Hi all,
thanks again for your suggestions.
I´ve run "configuration - system - delete memory" (in german: Einstellungen - System - Speicher löschen) from the phone, which is a "hardreset", i guess.
And look, after that my GPS is working again.
The HTC-GPS-Tool is working and my favourite apps (Smartrunner, Terracrosser) have GPS-Signal.
So, my result is that is was definitely a sw-problem and i am wondering that there is no fix for this, because regarding to some threads it looks like that happens quite often. I mean, even the developers of htc gps tool should have the knowledge to write a fix, don´t they?
May here is a wm crack who has a look at what a hardreset is doing with the gps and writes a little tool to fix this manually?
Many other users would appreciate a lot, i guess.
Let´s have a look when the problem comes up again
Even the quickgps tool came up with an error (something like "can´t connect - try later"). Then i will try to delete the "extra.bin"
All the best
My GPS hasn't been working for about 2 weeks now. Not about to hard-reset, but would love to find a simpler solution.
Try this solution. That worked for me and many others It is way simpler than a hardreset

I have exactly the same problem after every ROM flash.
And always manage to fix it in 4 steps:
1. Erase GPS data using the HTC tool, wait 30 secs, all satellites should vanish
2. Cold start the GPS, wait 30 secs
3. Power down the phone, power back up
4. Start the HTC GPS tool again and wait approximately 2 minutes for the gps to fix. If you screwed up steps 1-3 then after starting the tool you will get a pattern of satellites. The screen must be clear and it should start looking for satellite 02 (searching for almanac)
Never had to cold start the phone- I suppose it does exactly the same as my four steps.
I was working with various GPS units before and the Diamond one is definitively the most fiddly of them all.
I suppose there is a bug in the COM4 GPS communication protocol, I have noticed that the stream of data often cannot be stopped by closing the connection with the GPS inside the tool.
