Hi all,
since today all of my gps-programs (smartrunner, terracrosser, on the road panel) i´m normally using (at last yesterday) do not find a gps-siganl anymore.
I´ve tried htc gps-tool, but it is saying "failed to send NMEA command"
In settings the internal gps is set to com4, harware (external) no com, managed by windows.
Any ideas, or is there a program to check if the gps-chip is generally ok?
Thanks and all the best.
Coincidentally, about 5 days ago I found that my GPS on my R1A ROM stopped functioning after exactly 2 minutes. Tomtom and all other GPS apps would get a fix normally, then crash the phone after 2 mins (Tomtom goes gray) and a soft-reset is needed to get the phone going again. I tried reinstalling most of the apps, but nothing seemed to help.
In the end, I took the gutsy way out, flashed my X1 to R3A (even though there's rumours that it's not the 'official' release), and everything has been good ever since.
I know it's not really a 'solution', but I sure as hell couldn't find the fix. I've had my Xperia since the November release with R1A, and it just did this to me about a week ago.
Anyways, happy with R3A having skipped R2A. Not HUGE benefits to upgrading, but definitely some positives.
Hi Scar,
flashing to R3A means that all programs and data will be deleted?
Isn´t there a way to reinstall the gps-driver, like at "big windows"?
How did you flashed? With SE Update Service?
I am a X1 User for about 7 weeks, so i do not had such issues until now and flashing would be my first time.
Any other ideas around?
Thanks and all the best
Hi mrx_bln,
Flashing to R3A will mean that your device data will be lost. If you use ActiveSync, then all of your Contacts/Appts/Tasks/etc. will get re-synced when you re-create the partnership after flashing. You also might want to search the forums for "PIM Backup" which will allow you to set a "Custom" backup to grab your files, as well as its ability to save Call Logs + SMS.
I flashed my ROM by using the microSD method, which is to place the (official) ROM in the root of the Storage Card, and have it named "kovsimg.nbh". You'll find more info from Jack Leung in the ROMs section of the Xperia X1 forum here.
As far as I know, there is no way to reinstall the GPS driver. If you have never got a signal though, and your symptoms aren't like mine were (I got a fix for 2 mins then it always froze after that), then you might want to leave it outside for 10 minutes to ensure that the GPS isn't working. Also, run QuickGPS to make sure you've got the latest data file.
Hopefully you can figure it out, as flashing is a bit of a pain to have to reinstall and reconfigure everything. The silver lining to that dark cloud is that you can ensure that the device is running mint.
Let us all know how you make out!
If your GPS crashes satnav apps after a couple of minutes, try deleting your 'extra.bin' file.
This is the QuickGPS download file which is likely to be the culprit, and you can always download another which is likely to be okay.
Hi all,
thanks again for your suggestions.
I´ve run "configuration - system - delete memory" (in german: Einstellungen - System - Speicher löschen) from the phone, which is a "hardreset", i guess.
And look, after that my GPS is working again.
The HTC-GPS-Tool is working and my favourite apps (Smartrunner, Terracrosser) have GPS-Signal.
So, my result is that is was definitely a sw-problem and i am wondering that there is no fix for this, because regarding to some threads it looks like that happens quite often. I mean, even the developers of htc gps tool should have the knowledge to write a fix, don´t they?
May here is a wm crack who has a look at what a hardreset is doing with the gps and writes a little tool to fix this manually?
Many other users would appreciate a lot, i guess.
Let´s have a look when the problem comes up again
Even the quickgps tool came up with an error (something like "can´t connect - try later"). Then i will try to delete the "extra.bin"
All the best
My GPS hasn't been working for about 2 weeks now. Not about to hard-reset, but would love to find a simpler solution.
Try this solution. That worked for me and many others It is way simpler than a hardreset

I have exactly the same problem after every ROM flash.
And always manage to fix it in 4 steps:
1. Erase GPS data using the HTC tool, wait 30 secs, all satellites should vanish
2. Cold start the GPS, wait 30 secs
3. Power down the phone, power back up
4. Start the HTC GPS tool again and wait approximately 2 minutes for the gps to fix. If you screwed up steps 1-3 then after starting the tool you will get a pattern of satellites. The screen must be clear and it should start looking for satellite 02 (searching for almanac)
Never had to cold start the phone- I suppose it does exactly the same as my four steps.
I was working with various GPS units before and the Diamond one is definitively the most fiddly of them all.
I suppose there is a bug in the COM4 GPS communication protocol, I have noticed that the stream of data often cannot be stopped by closing the connection with the GPS inside the tool.

Mine works again. Downloading new QuickGPS seemed to solve the problem.
i have the same problem with my gps since yesterday - could you please give the link, from where you got the quickGPS?

I thought QuickGPS came with the phone. Load up the program, then hit 'download' and soft-reset just in case.
Thx
I've tried it - so I think I have an other problem with GPS

i'd tried win6.1 and 6.5 and back to old one (touchIt 7.1) and gps don't work. I mean, that programs (iGo, gps tool) find gps but no sattelits has found.
Mayby can U explain, how to erase gps data?
thanks in advance.

my imat jasjar with the latest rom (1.13.53) and latest radio(1.04.02) sometimes freezes 10 times a day, forcing me to soft reset (sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row) before it works again...i have tried everything from upgrading the rom, hardressetting, changing memorycards, leaving the device on instead of automaticly turning of....nothing works..
the worst is when i stop using it and put it on charge during the night, it does not wake up in the morning...i have to softreset everytime and all calls and sms that came in during that time where not received...can anybody relate to this problem, or am i alone in this....i really like the device, but missing my calls and resetting ten times a day, makes me wonder if i should go back to my trusted magician...maybe a rom from another device (o2,mda,qtek) would be a solution ?
any help is welcome
I'd get it replaced as it shouldn't be doing that. I've not had a single hang on my XDA Exec since I got it nearly a month ago.

do you really think it is a hardware problem....i find it more to be a software problem...and i would not like to be without my device for 1,2,3 or even more weeks...anybody know if the qtek 9000 rom is available somewhere...having had a qtek 2020,9090 and s100 and also tried a few mda's and imate's, i find these to be the best roms in general
@jesax, I had a JJ and I used all the features (inc. video calling and UMTS downloads) but only had a freeze with SMS notifications and downloading emails over UMTS. You device could have a hardware problem. The other possibility is the ROM is corrupted so you should try to download a new copy.
mine randomly hangs when using Agile Messenger. Stable the rest of the time.
Planning a hard reset shortly, will see if this fixes it.
in my case a hard reset does not change anything...i have done three and have changed to the latest rom...no dice
does anybody know where i can find the original jasjar rom or a good working english rom to try out or do a downgrade...
i am reaching in the dark here....
@jesax, did you download a fresh ROM from clubimate? Your original ROM could be corrupted

yes, i downloaded the latest rom from the imate site...no go...still the same problems...i first tought it was a charging problem, as it happens every morning when i take it from the charger....i now left the jasjar untouched for a few hours in closed position without the charger, and when i opened it up, it froze again, leading to a softreset.....HEEEEELLLP
@Jesax,
If I were you, I would have falshed the ROM again to my device as I think there is some kind of corruption to your installed ROM.
To get the latest ROM version go to this site :
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal/
If it does not open, just go to this site and you can open it from there:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
You can get it also from this site:
http://www.clubimate.com/t-DEVICE_JASJAR_UPD.aspx
But your device must be registered to axcess to this site.
Flash the ROM to your device and try to use it without up-grading the radio version to 1.04.02..... if you experience the same problem so it's definately a hardware problem and in this case you have to give it back, but I think it will work properly "I hope".
If you don't experience the same problem again, it might be either a problem with the radio version or a problem with any of the softwares installed on your device.
By the way, can we know which softwares are installed on your device at the time being??
Please let me know the result.
Regards,
jesax, okay. So you have downloaded the new ROM at least twice now from the clubimate site therefore we can assume the ROM is okay. Also please confirm that you are not using any third-party apps. Are you using a 3G or standard GMS SIM. Try turning off the radio functions (Fn+->) and see if the freezing stops.
Jesax,
Are you using spb pocket plus or any similar software??

thanx, i give it a try but am getting fed up with spending hours behind the computer resetting this thing...
the software i am running are :
resco file explorer
gpspocketmagic
launcher
tomtom 5.1 installed, working but like to freez up also when in use
tweaks2k2
that's about it
i do not use 3g but do use gprs...it was switched to "always on" with the reg hack, but i turned it back (you never know)
i will have a try when i com home this evening to turn of radio function, and charge it overnight (how do i do this, without taking out the sim )
on the wiki ftp site i see there is a 02 xda exec rom i can dowload.
can anyone recommebd this ?
should i give it a try instead of the jasjar rom, and will it install as easily as the jasjar, or will it ask for id's and codes?
thanx guys
@ Jesax,
Before flashing the ROM again to your device just un-install tomtom 5.1 and pocketmajic and see the result "you can use majic button instead" .... if it does the same, you will have no option but flashing.
Don't get fed up...... your problem will be solved, the Jasjar is a wonderful device and you will enjoy it once your problem is solved.

I wouldn't advise you to do that.
There is nothing wrong with the jasjar ROM.... and it's the most popular.
Regards,
jesax, as I said in my previous post, you can switch off the radio using the following keys on your JJ "Fn" + "->" and select the All Off option.
Also remove all third-party apps and see if stability improves. If it does add one app at a time back to see which one is causing the stability issue.
The XDA ROM only requires a code for the Coroprate option (code is 0506), the Corporate option is the best to choose at it has no O2 additions.

thanx...i don't think tomtom5.1 is the problem, as i was having this problem before the install of tomtom...pocketmagic i can't remember when i put it on (so many resets, so many....)
i will give it a go
what's annoying is that it does not happen on steady intervals...it can freeze up twice in a minute, and then work fine for ten hours.

would you recommend me trying it, or is the jasjar rom actually better...i don't want to spend another few hours flashing the o2 rom, if it is no use
another question...maybe related...
i have noticed that when i open up my jasjar from fully closed to "laptop" mode, the backlight does not come on everytime...sometimes it does, sometimes i have to push the "on button" to light up...
my backlight is set to go out on batterypower after 30 seconds, and to stay on with external power.
the powersettings are : turn off after 1 minute on battery power and stay on with external power
@ jesax,
Most probably your ROM is corrupted.... in this case a hard reset will not work, but a fresh flashing to the ROM will be the best solution.

I own a HTC HD2, and use for geocaching: GCZII; latest version. (..45)
I do use this great software for for 2 years now. It runs fine on my HTC touchflo, HTC HD but not at my HD2. It's not the general problem (cannot download...) this causes by the server of groundspeak.
My problem: the list is downloaded without probs, internet-connection is good, GPS is fixed. When I want to download the caches themselves, then after a while (after 'bout 250 kb) the prog shuts down. I tried for 500 caches, for 20 etc. but when I download them one by one, most of the time it works well (not always). I do have another fine prog: Gatecacher, but... the same problem appears. So I suppose it will not be that software. My device is clean and empty. ROM: 1.66.404.1; radio 2.07.51.22_2 It's not the provider 'cause my other devices have no problem.
It realy frustrates me 'cause after 3 wks I will be on holiday up to sweden, where are many(!) hidden geocaches.
Is here a real freak (yes) who can help me? Please..?
thx anyway.

Mine saves the list fine, but when viewing the caches themselves, it closes without error.
Their website doesn't exactly help with lost passwords either, just shows a blank page!
GCZII latest version is working again!! (....45)
I've got the solution: disable the static menu, so do not activate any box. Works fine now! Gatecacher might have the same prob. I'll try this evening.

Just found this thread!
I have an HD2 running Eleganica v3. I downloaded GCz II and it worked for abit then I got the "Cache not found" error. On top of that it interfered with my phone so much (reset defaults, froze the phone, etc.) that I had to do a hard reboot and reinstall of the ROM to get it back where it worked (the phone). Was this just a freak thing or is there a conflice? I'm trying to get into geocaching and would like to use the GPS on the HD2 for that if possible.
Just had the same result with gpsed, another program.
Thanks!
i tried to search any nearby caches. then comes an error. (check your login data!) i know that is all right. my gc language is changed to english. gps is good. what can i do?
i use the garmin asus m10.
After endless searching for the gps solution i've found a solution.
I've tested it and can confirm it works.
All credits go to the developer of faster fix (Bernard Bekker)
So here are the steps:
1. Download the CM7 rom ( I'm currently running the built #15 nightly)
link:http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace
2. After installing the rom and gapps set it up as you normally would.
3. Download Fast Reboot from the market (and install it).
4. After installing the Fast Reboot, download Faster Fix from the market (and install it).
5. Now turn off the gps (not in the notification bar, but in settings).
menu/settings/location
6. Run Fast Reboot
7. Run Faster Fix, and select your country and hit Go
A pop up should say: for example "Done set to:nl.pool.ntp.org" as I live in the Netherlands.
8. Turn on your GPS and reboot.
Now when you use the Google Navigation you should have a fast and steady fix for your GPS.
This won't work if you turn off GPS and on again.
In this case you have to reboot your phone!!! Remember to turn on the GPS bevore you reboot your phone!
It is not nessesery to repeat steps 1 to 7, just 8.
Just tried this and got instant GPS lock when I walked outside of my office. THanks for posting this.
Seems to work. Thanks for the information.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I just followed these instructions and when I rebooted the phone froze on the splash screen. Had to recover and flash my nand. Have you heard of this problem?
No, i never had this problem, mostly if you make a lot of changes, reboot in to recovery and flash a .zip and than reboot, you might end up with a bootloop in the splash screen.

Just to inform you guys, if you are using a gel case on your Desire HD, it's going to have a noticeable impact on the GPS lock time, from two minutes down to only several seconds.
I have confirmed this with my Case-Mate Gelli, and there is also a video by someone else on YouTube showing this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUyhxm2NtDU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Faster Fix will still help with the lock time in both cases, so thanks to the original poster.
Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I have an HTC Desire CDMA from USCC with CM7 RC4 running.
?permanent fix
It worked but is it a permanent fix or every time you want to you GPS do u have to turn it on then reboot to get it working again? Thanks

I still find the GPS to be very poor on my DHD. updated the radio, applied this fix and it still takes a long time to lock, even when outside. Its almost as if agps isn't working at all.
Just a thing to test
Menu>settings>applications>development
Make sure "Allow mock locations" isn't checked
I suffered with terrible GPS reception for weeks until I noticed this was checked. Now I get on average 3-7 yards accuracy, fixing in about 3 seconds
Also didnt work for me. Have flashed a few different Radios and ROM's, does anyone know a highly recommended Radio for CM7 and gps? (preferably on UK Orange if that matters / makes a difference to gps).

GPS problem solved!
Have had huge problems with my GPS and sought advice both here and other forums.
EVERYTHING has been tried, all possible combinations of room's, radios, and ril'files, fasterfix, gps status, fastreboot, delete cache Dalvik etc. I can not count all the times I've gone out on the porch and pointed my HD to the sky with new hope but no result. The best I have achieved is fix during the 5-10 minutes with an accuracy of about 140m .....
Then I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qm_z65LA8k
Thank you knglaser
It seems that the GPS antenna sits in the flash cover!
I tried to press the flashcover and it worked just like an on and off switch for the GPS, satelites just fell in and in a matter of seconds I had the fix of 10 satellites This with an accuracy of 5-6m.
Picked out the blitz cover and "adjusted" the contacts between the cover and the phone and put it back in place, it took about 2 minutes.
After this operation GPS works perfectly
I am now happy since this has been incredibly annoying, I use GPS to both training and in the car and have not been to happy to send the phone back to repair since this usally takes long time.
Hope this can help others who are struggling with the same problem?
Thank you for this. At first i dismissed this as my gps problems only started immediately after the ota gb upgrade installed - it was then taking over 4 minutes to get a fix. However in desperation i took phone out of case - simply pressed the cover in the place shown in video (didn't even have to remove) and hey presto now get fix in seconds. Put phone back in case and all is still well.
Simple but yet very effective - thank you.
Not sure why the upgrade should have triggered this problem though?

About winLogo key
Hello, I want to ask my question here because I am not able to write it on nand topic. I'm using this rom and its really great. My question is; when you press winlogo key gently -Lol really- settings menu is opened and the default action for this key is this, but when you normally press winlogo key, it acts like home key and returns to home. Is it a way to change/fix it? Thanks..
Did you try rebooting?
yes, I've been using it since 5 Feb. and booted many many times..
Booting
Hello!
Yesterday I installed this rom and I have a problem. After installation, when the phone resets everything turns around all the files to download, then shows a screen that says "ANDROID" at which point everything becomes. How many would not have waited for the screen disappears and nothing further changes. I left it switched on the phone at night, because I heard that when you first load all the files but that did not help.
Do you have to install a kernel update CLK?
Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Please help!
