Is there a difference of quality between 3G and 4G with sprint TV? Does it even work on 4G? it looks pretty bad on 3G and i'm hoping it will get better with 4G.
It looks A LOT better on 4G. On 3G indeed it is pretty awful.
How can I watch Sprint TV over wifi? It automatically shuts down wifi when I launch it.

You can't. Thank the people who took the Sprint TV install files and ran them on every other network but sprint.

Oops my bad. I kind of mixed up YouTube and Sprint TV in my previous comment. Yeah Sprint TV does not work in Wifi but it still looks way better on 4G then on 3G.

In fact it actually moves slower than EDGE most of the time, until H kicks in and fixes it.
It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens alot.
Any ideas wtf is going on?

Take a look at that. That doesn't make up for the crappy coverage and expensive prices though.

The N1 isn't even compatible with AT&T 3G, so I don't know how this is relevant.
EDGE is of course pretty slow but I have absolutely no speed problems with 3G on my end - it's quite fast with low latency.
So how slow is crap? I've never seen it move.

Doesn't this more or less answer your original question?
I mean if you have that weak of a 3g signal I wouldn't expect it to be very fast.
Honestly in my experience even with just a bar or so, 3G is still quite fast...perhaps there's a lack of backhaul at the tower as well.

Are you next to the campus? The site there right on campus could be getting loaded down with all the students.
FYI, standard UMTS 3G is only about 100kbps faster than EDGE. Its the HSPA that is fast, so when it takes your phone a second to switch to HSPA, is that when your talking about it being slow? Then its fast once it switchs to HSPA for the data?
im asking this because i was in the local sprint store picking up a car charger for my wifes moment. i ask if they had a release date for the EVO he said no and 4g wont be in the area is who knows when . i said i wasunder the impression the EVO was 4g winmax but was able to use 3g as well .
well he looked stunned and if he had no idea what i was talking about .
so is it 3g and 4g or just 4g . if its just 4g i see no reason for myself to pick an evo till 4g is in my area
3g and 4g. In fact in some of the screen shots floating around you can see it connected to 3g. But regardless, it's definitely both.

It will have an evdo radio.
According to HTC, you won't be able to use 4G and Voice at the same time due to software limitations... which definitely makes it sound like it may be a possibility with a future software update.

Eh, it is the same way that you don't get 3g and voice simultaneously on the Hero you have right now.
I guess you could always go GSM AT&T and pay twice as much for the same voice/data package. Might as well pick up an Iphone too.
Hopefully they update the software to allow for data+voice, but it isn't even a phone-deciding factor for me. The EVO has 4g+3g+1x btw.

3G and 1X are really the same thing-ish. They are both in what's considered the 3G family. 1X being the lowest tier/speed and EVDO Rev. B the fastest.

anyone know of a way to make this work? i wanna be able to watch the world cup games while im at work by my work only has wifi i cant get good 3g coverage where i am(under lead and concrete) so sprint tv doesnt work. any way around this so i could use wifi with sprint tv?
NO Sprint TV is not WIFI compatible. You must use it over your phone antenna. Sucks I know but hey the cool thing is I noticed my EVO 3G/EVDO connections seems much faster than my TP2.
epic disappointment. and to boot my dvr isnt working!
Blame all the people who took the Sprint TV app and installed it on non Sprint phones for other carriers for this. Sprint used to allow TV over wifi.

Thunderbolt review
http://www.bgr.com/2011/03/28/htc-thunderbolt-review/
The HTC ThunderBolt is able to send and receive data and carry voice calls simultaneously. It the first of many Verizon Wireless smartphones that will be able to carry voice calls while moving data, and it can do so over Verizon’s new 4G LTE network as well as its older 3G EVDO network. I tested this capability a great deal over the past week, and it has worked flawlessly for me. Whether connected to 3G or 4G, apps and web pages on the ThunderBolt continue to hustle along while voice calls are being made. I’m not sure if this new technology plays a role in the noticeably degraded audio quality I noted above, but the functionality is there so and many users will be elated.
either i am miss understanding this part or verizon enabled something to allow voice/data over their 3g cdma network

Verizon is implementing SVDO which allows voice and data simultaneously. Its an evolution of EVDO.
Happy to hear it...just ordered my tbolt. Should be here tomorrow. I never used the feature but since i can now....im sure i will use it alot.
Thats pretty neat....but it sucks that you cant turn off 4g....and battery life using LTE and the Thunderbolt seems to be on par with Wimax and the Evo.

Both of you missed the boat...duh try voice and data at the sametime in an area where there is no 4g or WiFi and see if it works for ya. The answer is no but apparently Verizon is learning that users want this feature and has been enabling it on certain devices. Now we just need sprint to follow

You might need to check that boat schedule, yourself. The 3G and LTE antennas/radios are separate, just like Sprint's 3G and 4G. So, if you live on a market that Verizon has yet to light up their LTE and you'll be in the same boat.
I would hazard a guess that the reason you've not seen either Verizon or Sprint actually promote simultanious voice/data as AT&T does is that it's limited to markets where they've lit up LTE/4G.

Verizon is rolling out SVDO, as I mentioned earlier. Proof comes from the following link: http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/simultaneous-voice-data-coming-to-cdma
It can be -- and is apparently being -- done.

When your phone is rooted and you are able to use your phone as a Wifi hot spot, can you surf the web and talk at the same time? Thanks!
I believe that would only be possible when you are connected with 4G. Otherwise you can only tether and surf.
You can do that whether you're rooted or not. Same with 4g

Correct, CDMA networks don't allow communication and data transfer at the same time i believe... some GSM's with sim cards can though. T-Mobile i believe.
So why is it while on 4g watching a streaming movie through HDMI, I can get a call, answer it, have a convo, and the movie is never interrupted? I thought the 4g radio was seperate from the mobile/3g radios?
Not trying to discredit anyone just a question.
