If you are a leaker attempting the new root method, please indicate whether you've been successful in the poll. Though it will be approximate, I hope this helps answer the frequent question of just how many are experiencing success.
NOPE
NO SUCCESS HERE I HAVE TRIED EVERY METHOD ALIVE EVERY OS PUT THERE CLASS 4 CARDS LIKE CRAZY I HAVE SPENT 50 BUCKS IN THIS ROOT METHOD AND NOTHIN JUST KEEP GETTING LOOP LIKE CRAZY AND MY PHONE BEING SEEN AS A DISK DRIVE THATS IT...I AM NOT NEW TO THIS AT ALL BUT THIS PHONE IS NO JOKE
No success for me with a 4 gb Kingston class 4 card, haven't got that PNY boy yet. I am not a leaker, my Eris came new in box with 2.1 installed, and HBOOT 1.49 S-ON. I don't know if this is affecting me, but I think everyone that has done this so far is on a leak.
Nope, got my Eris about three weeks ago with 1.49.0000 S-ON as well, and I rooted mine.
I have counted 17 reported successes in various threads and in IRC/Tinychat, and posted those results in the tutorial thread.
Success on 6/24
this is actually a bad poll
because some people who said no are starting to get it now

That's good news. I'm not sure if I have the 1.49.0000 or just the 1.49 and I'm not checking right now (working on my app Touch Drummer) but Dradien did you use the PNY memory card and it worked?

I would certainly agree that it is an unscientific poll (meaning that the sampling is not random), but some numbers are better are better than none at all!
It could be in error either direction.

I do agree that it is biased in the sense that unsuccessful users will be more likely to vote to express their frustration, but it's impossible to perform a statistically sound poll in a forum. However, it's better than nothing, imo.
No success for me on my wifes eris, thankfully I rooted my dinc!

is anyone using the search function on this site? Just wondering.
Answer: They are looking.
I found it last week, even posted a how to on here. So far only one person has reported it works, no one has reported that it doesnt.
Step one
Reboot your phone holding down the trackball, power button, call button, volume up and down at the same time.
Step two
place know on a hard surface
Step three
Using a large rock, smash phone.
Step four
go to
http://ebay.com
Step five
Buy new phone running 1.5

most likely the developers downgraded and gave up on posting a how to: when this stuff happens it happens fast i find it hard to believe the downgrading wasn't already figured out. no offense to the developers..

To start you should go and get the android SDK. I'm sure you could google those terms and it would lead you somewhere in the right direction. The SDK website has plenty of info, including install install instructions and programs that would help you begin developing

Hi All,
I have been watching 4-5 Different threads on Here and I have finally gotten tired of random banter and endless reading of repeated non-working or just non-technical responses. So I made a google Wave to try to consolidate our efforts and finally root this thing The wave will focus on overcoming the 1.49 Hboot with S-On and not specifically leak or OTA. If we don't get this solved its going to eventually kill our dev community
I make a personal promise that I will comb through the Wave document every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and merge all useful information into the main post and purge all non essential information so it remains consolidated and on point.
It will include:
General Root Tools:
Known Root Methods & If they have been tested on the Eris:
And More stuff I haven't figured out yet:
I will try to gather as much info as I can find about these things but please go post what you know on the wave to help out
Here is a link to the Public [Droid Eris - OTA & Leak 1.49 hboot Root Discussion] Wave:
https://wave.google.com/wave/invite...3138d&wsig=ABk8uhQbSaBHvVNCEDJwkF95o5d39W_HyA
P.S. I am just try to help get a root going so it would be cool if no one flamed me
Good effort man. I'd like to see this happen before I get a new phone.
strong words..but with no end result really, besides creating an outside place to go for more confusion and so on, instead of actually keeping it at "home base".
Going forward and to be quite honest imo..rooting the leak or working on the known exploits or even going forward the h-boot and not reaching an end result, will not "kill the community". Yea it may in fact dwindle to a certain extent, but certainly not "kill it", as u mentioned.
Now with applying what you have created, the only thing i see happening is the cease and desist of the "random banter" here, and moved there.
If i may, a suggestion i have thrown out there numerous times, is actually hitting up the mods and seeing if a subforum with all threads related be created and moved there, yet still being on xda, and still not needing an external link.

Two quick things.
1.) I am sorry I am not the best writer I was trying to work on it at work when ever I had a moment or two but I should of caught those errors.
2.) Ok, so everyone was warned about the leak. I know I used the leak personally. I was annoyed with no root, but only at my self. Then I had some general issues with the phone and I got a replacement, and at that time I made sure I rooted my android 1.5 replacement! And for a few months I had rom fun! Then from either possibly screwing around with my phone or just random electronic breakage it died. At this point Verizon is only giving replacements out with Android 2.1 and maybe some people are getting lucky but most are coming with 1.49 S-on bootloader. Now I know SoCalSpecialist you have like 3 Erises (this personally confuses me, owning 3 of the exact same model phone, but what ever makes your happy is cool with me) but I only have one. As of now I have no way to root it, and until its rooted coming to this board daily to check it makes me sad lol (I still come tho lol). More and more people that were active members in this community will be in the same boat as me and just have to sit by and become passive observers.
Look if no one wants to use the wave its cool. I am going to continue trying to arrange the information that community members have discovered and post it logically, as opposed to being randomly lodged in a number of different threads over hundreds of posts. And I do this only with the hopes that some Dev, takes a sec to look at it one day and reads it and something sets a light-bulb off for them, and bam! 1.49 S-on Rooted!
PS. One note I meant what I said about Wednesday, Friday, and Monday updates to the wave. all spelling/grammer errors will be fixed tomorrow night + additional info. I would do it now but I need to be to work in 5 hours and I am beat
honestly..best of luck.
getting the Eris community on the same boat has been an issue for all of us DEV's hence why we are slowly dwindling..
as far as the grammer and all that other jazz..who cares dude..as long as we get the jist, thats all that matters!
my with 3 devices, one was a tester i got from CNET, one belongs to my wife and the 3rd has the original leak that was never rooted.

As you know we have root access, and believe the root exploits will work on the production devices.
However I do not believe we will have perm root on the production devices.
We are seeking volunteers willing to assist, by testing a method once the device is released. A risk of bricking exists, and the volunteer will assume 100% of that risk.
Requirements:
1) Will be getting a thunderbolt on or shortly after release
2) Ability to follow directions
3) Basic computer knowledge (ability to use command line would be nice)
4) Have the sdk installed, or be willing to install it
5) Understand the risk of volunteering completely. (ie know bricked phones no longer work)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the other post, you show a photo with SHIP S-OFF at the SPL level... so is this not permanent?
Perhaps I am confused then by what you mean 'perm root' in this case. Do you mean a engineering SPL?

If you read that whole post, you will understand its a pre production device (see the lack of verizon branding?). That is why we had s-off. Production models will not likely have it.
I currently have a touch pro 2 with nand loading xdandroid.
I would be happy to test though, I would rather not be the first brick. LOL
But in the sake of root, I might be willing to risk it. Considering the success rate.... I would say the risk would be high I am sure many precautions will be taken to prevent a brick.

With current ideas, risk is near nothing for one. Other one is slim. (in my opinions)
I am sure once the device is in hand tests will be done prior to flashing.
HTC phones are pretty good about not permanently bricking.
I will be trying it out.

I'm still 50/50 on getting it right when it comes out since I'll be paying full retail and we don't have a confirmed price yet. But otherwise, I meet all of the criteria. I actually tested the rage exploit on the Droid 2 first and had to write up the adb commands for others, so I'm comfortable working my way through some hackery.

full retail if its like what BB posted ($750) then its cheaper to cancel your current contract and buy it with a new 2 year for $250
so thats 250+350=600
If you have a current contract
I will be picking a tb up as soon as they say go at a verisimilitude store and no matter what phone I have I can never go more than a day or two with out root. I need the ability to have freedom even if I can't change anything. Just the thought of having it keeps me going. Right now, there is NO new root. I guaranty you there will be people Fighting to be the first to post when it actually drops. Plus, if you read the thread, they state that it seems to be very device specific...meaning it may not help us, we don't know yet. Unless you are a dev or a tester, we are still in wait-and-see mode.

Why get the hopes up of all of the noobs that took the OTA. The smart ones that got unlucky with a warranty swap or an insurance claim that got 2.3.3 on a new/refurb phone knows where to look and when to ask about it.
I heard unrevoked has a solution. They appear to have bootloader loop issue to resolve before they can publish a solution.
