Not yet, afaik.
But I showed two people the stickied method in development forum today, and it took less than 5 minutes each

Well to be very honest. You should be happy that doesn't work with our phones, cause it's just a pdf exploit problem with this is it can be used for less amusing purposes

100% agreed.
There was a viral tweet from the parody @ceostevejobs account, mockingly asking people to kindly stop jail breaking the demonstration iPhones in stores

i got my hero at about 6 o clock last night. i have froyo on now it took about 30 minutes

Hehe, that means you rival my "time to root"
I never actually booted stock rom, as I fastbooted recovery and flashed.
In fact, you beat me, as I let it charge first

i ran stock for around 30minutes...lol. It just proves custom is the way forward. If i stayed official i wouldnt even be on 2.1 now due to 3 not releasing it...2.2 ftw

Given up on waiting for root..

Well, I hate to say this but I have given up waiting for root as an early leak user. I feel I have the right to post this due to 1, helping wherever I could, 2, contacting paul to even get the ball rolling after jcase mentioned him 3, offered donation for a solution etc...
I love my eris but see all the neat things I am missing out on. When the evo comes out, I will be jumping from pageplus to sprint... i am sure that will be rooted and if not... im still better off.
Thank you to all who have tried their best.. I think this is one instance where the phone beat us. I am annoyed that we do not have root as it allows us to better use our own phone.
anyway, best of luck to all...
Do not feed the troll...
seriously?? I have more posts than you and I am far from that... your comment is stupid.

I dont blame you homie.. If I had not managed to get a second eris after I jumped on the leakv1, I would have gone nuts watching all the badass ROMS and hacks get released and have no way to use them.
Ok everyone can quit complaining about the 2.1 update! I just checked Verizon ERis Software Upgrade page and its announced that there is an update coming soon! I know theres no date but at least it is now finally up on their site. If you dont belive me check it out your self & for those who doubted it would ever come this just shows that paicence is a virtue.
support.vzw.com/information/droid_eris_upgrade
Check out both pdf files. The Benifits of Software link states all the updates for 2.1. Enough said?
Good riddance.

Just short out the battery connection on the back of the phone with a small piece of aluminum foil, take it in to Verizon, explain how your phone just turned off and won't turn on and voila! You get a new phone the next day running stock 1.5, ready to be ROOTED!
That's what I did after installing the 2.1 leak and realized I couldn't get root. Let me tell you, my rooted Eris running Evil Eris v2.0 with the overclocked processor is far greater than my friends Moto Droid. I hope you make the right decision.
P.S. Don't be a bully.
There are always risks involved when upgrading a device, I learned that with the PSP and now other people are learning it with their Eris. Crying about it (in the wrong forum no less) is doing nothing to help.
A root will likely eventually be found, patience is the key. As soon as you just can't stand it anymore and upgrade/change device/etc you've potentially lost something forever.
One thing is for sure; I find it insulting that people feel they have a right to complain about being on leak, nobody held you down and forced you to flash anything.

It's not overclocked yet, it definitely doesnt do anything at the moment. And as far as shorting it out, I took mine into verizon complaining about the speakers all cutting out glitch and they didnt even look at the phone and swapped me out a new one in 10 minutes. It's not that hard really, just find someone in the store who looks like an idiot. All the smart people are in the back anyway.
Or You can not be a cheapskate and just Buy a new one..
or should I get a MOTO Droid or incredible but I still have my Eris with

Not everyone has lots of money and buying a new eris outright is about 500 or so, used on ebay they go for over 300. speaking for myself I know I'd rather have the 3-500 to spend on bills and things then buying a new phone.
Even though I am kicking myself for not waiting a bit longer, I don't regret upgrading to any of the leaks. It gave me 2.1 months before everyone else. A little more patience never hurt anyone.

Seconded. But this thread is useless. If you're tired of waiting on 2.1 leak root then get a new phone, try and get a replacement or just sit there and use the phone like it was meant to be. There's nothing wrong with 2.1 v3 in my opinion. Telling everyone you're leaving because of it is just asking to be trolled/flamed. I suggest a mod closes this thread or something.

Agree, 2.1 is so much better than 1.5. Plus, if you want to play with your phone and "customize it" a little there are home replacements in the market you can try. Helixlauncher is really good, and I just found one yesterday on android forums, real nice. It's called Zeam, http://www.mediafire.com/?jtzjyoklenk
Little to no lag and dialer is lightning fast.
So while you might not be rooted, it's nobody's fault that root hasn't been found yet or that you (op) flashed the leak. I want root too, but have the patience to wait for it to be found. There are some of the best devs on here working on it, only a matter of time.
~ happy 2.1 v3 leak user
my point wasnt i was unhappy with anyone here. I love 2.1v3 and yes, its leaps above 1.5
Just annoyed at what I am missing. I do not want this topic to be considered trollish..

Lets Ask HTC for NexusOne SPL on Incredible

Hello everybidy as Froyo is just gona Release it will take ages for HTC to upgrade our Incredible and also we are missing on rooted OS.

Lets ask HTC to allot us new SPL like Nexus One which Support

You mean like the disclaimers in every custom rom thread, where people still manage to brick their phones, and then talk about taking them back to the store for a new one?
HTC doesn't even release legally-obligated kernel sources on time half the time, if you think they're going to go an extra step beyond that you're dreaming.

I believe they're talking about the disclaimer that you get when you unlock a nexus one. HTC will refuse to warranty most nexus ones if the bootloader is unlocked.... and thats the risk im willing to take
But you have to remember that Verizon will get say in that as well and they do not like people messing with their stuff. It's a long shot....

Actually, I already have the cdma nexus one hboot. But it's useless to us until we can flash to start. The version is pretty far from the HTC one as well so it's useless in our attempts. Stay patient.
Not to be a total retard, but is Froyo just a codename for Flash integration, or is it like an entire OS upgrade for the Android? Why would you say it would be ages until the HTC Incredible gets updated?
Sorry if that's a dumb question.

It's an entire upgrade for andriod, well from 2.1 to 2.2, but some good changes. HTC has to go through a ton of testing phases before releasing an upgrade so it usually takes them awhile and no question is a dumb question
I work for the mobile industry and have worked for the computer industry for years, and have never been one to believe the talk about obsolete devices soon after you buy them. It angers me that this incredible is my first Android and I can't root it like my friends who have the Droid and Nexus One, Dream, etc.
I'm almost tempted to take it back and get a diff android, but this damn phone is so cool.

Root will happen. As is, this phone is far from obsolete. 2.2 still needs to be released on an actual device before its mature enough for daily use. Trust me, I went to 2.1 way too early on my last device and it sucked. Then 2.1 devices came out and all of the sudden it was good enough for daily use.

There is no way verizon will ever help with the incredible root, it enables things that verizon want locked on the phone, such as tethering. I'm all for optimism, but lets not forget reality.

I agree. Not only does it enable things VZW disabled intentionally but it increases the chances for issues that can lead to unsatified customers and returns.
HTC probably wouldn't want to go against their customer who is VZW not us. We buy from VZW not HTC.
We just have to trust in our developer community and hope they are able to accomplish root in the near future. I believe every HTC Android device has been rooted in the past so why would the Incredible be any different.
I remember reading an artible about how the G1 would never be able to be upgraded to 1.6 and devs got that phone running 2.1 so I am hopeful

You know what, I think Samsung is 50 percent to Blame. The other 50 percent is T-Mobile. T-MOBILE...simply does not support their phones.
Buying the G2 will be the same damn story. Sure it will come with 2.2, but as soon as 3.0 comes along, every other carrier will have it months before T-Mobile releases it on the G2, and you will cry and complain "the more and more I want Verizon."
I honestly think the problem is T-Mobile, and not so much the handset manufacturers.
tmobile is throwing Samsung under the bus, I got this back from a message I sent to Tmobiles facebook a bit ago..
Robert,
We understand your interest on updates Samsung is working on one and as soon as we have any more information on this we will communicate it.
.. notice they say that Samsung is working on one, I did ask about 2.2 though and not the gps fix.

Honestly, my biggest regret was leaving at&t. I left because I wasn't interested in an iphone, I noticed no good new WM apps were coming along, and I wanted a 3.5 mm headphone jack on my phone. The nexus filled all those needs so when it was released I jumped ship to t-mobile. I found out the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
I still have no idea why people say T-Mobiles customer support is better than AT&T; from everything I've seen it isn't even close.
Someone else posted on here before about T-Mobiles BB getting upgraded to V.5 not too long ago.. they have 6 out or it's close to release. T-Mobile does lack in this "Software/Firmware" Update department. They have some decent phones but don't support them enough.
It's amazing, when the G1 came out, yes it was the first Android phone but updates rolled out pretty quick. I know it was stock "Vanilla" Android but updates were addressed in a timely manor. But now they have the My Touch, My Touch Slide and Cliq series and now the Galaxy S phone.
Wow everyone is a bunch of goddamn vultures here. Waaah I've had my phone a month and a half Samsung and T-Mobile suck I want my updates waaah. People need to realize that updates need to go through a lot of steps. If you don't like your phone return it and get a different one.

So what its perfectly ok for other Galaxy S phones that haven't been out as long as the Vibrant to be getting their updates, but not us? Honestly, I really think it has to do a lot with TMO and not Sammy. Luckily, I've rooted and running a custom ROM and Voodoo fix. I also know that doing that is not for everyone though.
The Captivate came out what like 3 days after the Vibrant? Maybe tmo and Samsung are waiting to see how the update goes on the Captivate. It wont matter anyways we could get it tomorrow and people will still complain that it's not 2.2 or their phone is still not fast enough or some other bullcrap.

Your joking right? First almost 2 1/2 months. Second the others all got a update as mentioned.
All other phones with 1ghz are running froyo, even a hd2 without android has it.lom
I vote we get /b/ to start ****. Maybe then we might get some movement from T-Mo and Samsung... just me? >.>
not that it will do anything to Tmobile but I've decided that whoever gets 2.2 on the Galaxy S device first is who I will be switching to. If its Tmobile then I won't be going anywhere, but if another carrier can get it out before Tmobile see ya.
Tmobile launched this device First int he US there is no reason they should not be the first to release the OS update even if it takes them till November
I do agree that they need to support their phones better. But at least TMO isn't forcing bing down our throats either.
I come from the Blackberry side of the fence and I remember when 5.0 devices were new last year it took forever for TMO to release an update for the 9700, and that original release was filled with bugs. I finally gave up on waiting for them and simply downloaded another carrier's release. Easy to do on that platform.
I like the Vibrant for the most part. Yes it has bugs; yes it's quality needs to be improved. Yes the GPS kind of sucks. But what other high-end phone out there doesn't have issues these days? I'm sure the G2 will have them as well.

HTC MT4G

Don't buy one.......
I just purchased one at a really reasonable price (new) , liked the fact that it has a crap load of ram, flash, good gps, etc etc. I got it today and im putting it up for sale. you have to be developer to root the thing i have tried for about 4 hours straight. When i first rooted my vibrant it took me 15 minutes to go from stock eclair to froyo and if i soft brick it i can odin. You cant do that with the myTouch, if you brick your f'd.
Another thing to note is that when i look at my vibrants beautiful screen and then look at MT4g's screen i get really disappointed, i thought i was ready to jump ship but im not, ill wait for the sgs 2 if it comes to t-mobile. Anyhow the Vibrant 3g is ftw. Samsung has a bad reputation for software updates, but with a community like we have on XDA, im sticking with it for awhile.
Thank you Devs (team whiskey, EDT, and of course Eugene)
Funny how you mention Samsung has bad software update reputations. They just released the i9000 gingerbread and source code or 2 days later. They basically beat all the HTC devices to Gingerbread, including the Desire which released 2 or 3 months earlier than the Galaxy S.

The rooting part was probably stupid (no offense) it's easy to root almost all Android phones, and the others I agree, one of my friends flashed a rom on his mt4g and it would not turn on and he asked me because i've done it many times and fixed it, i told him it wasn't possible because it just wasn't...
@Samsung, I never said they sucked or their rep. went down. I always trusted Samsung, because besides my phone, my Blu-Ray gets updated every month, and my other Samsung Devices are always getting updates, major or minor.
Carriers are the ones f'ing it up for everyone.
FUUUU TMOBILE!
i helped my buddy root his mt4g about a week ago and it is kind of a pain, especially compared to the vibrant. partially cause you have to temp root it, then use the gfree, and my friend's mt4g couldn't use the newer gfree and had to use the .02.

That is simple and if it is considered hard I feel bad for anyone that can't do that, if you wanted hard rooting then try the first method on a MyTouch Slide, that was a bit of a nightmare.
I rooted my wife's MT4g, it took a few tries but i got it done, watching the tutorial at theunlockr.com
A side note, The Mtg4 is a bit faster than my Vibrant but the wifi signal is horrible compared to my phone. Also my web pages load way faster on Wifi both next to my router. All in all good phone but I like my phone tons better.

[Humor] I remember when...(your noob days)

A little background before I begin. To be honest, all throughout Elementary, Middle School, and my first three years of Highschool, I never had a phone. There was no need for me to have one, and if I did need it, I'd call from the office, or a friend's cell. Plus I never lived too far from school to simply walk.
Junior year near my birthday was when my sisters, and mom surprised me with a "phone" it was one of those Nokia Phones that were very simple, with only skydiver, bowling, and backgammon for "fun". I was so pleased and glad, now i had my OWN number, now if a girl asked me for it, I had something for her to write down instead of lamely saying "sorry, i don't have one"
The phone probably lasted about 3 months until again, my family decided I didn't need one. Plus, I hardly used it and they didn't want to pay another bill.
Senior year, my mother gifted me a Blackberry 8130 (Business Edition) with the backlit keys. The provider was Cbeyond. I felt like such a pro, now I had a corporate device, with business service, and I felt good. That was short lived as well, apparently calls and texting weren't free and my mom had to cancel the $700 bill.
After High-School Graduation, I immediately began to work. (so much for vacations)
With my own money, I bought a cheap 100 dumb-phone from MetroPCS, a popular provider aimed at MetroPolitan areas, similar to Cricket for those who haven't heard of them. Without getting too personal, let's just say I partied too heavily one day and destroyed the phone.
Bought myself a Touch Pro 2 off craigslist from someone who was "moving" to Android. I didn't care what this Android OS he was switching to was, I was too busy being mesmerized by the eye-candy Sense running on Windows Phone 6. I got geeked up at the idea of having eye-candy Sense, and a Windows Phone in one that I now felt like my phone was a computer.
I was happy until i noticed it was laggy, and when i tried looking for apps, (The best app on there was probably Youtube.) or updates, it was very limited, and was sad to find out that support was being dropped. Nonetheless, I made the best of it, that's where I began using programming tools like cdma workshop and qpst. Didn't take long for me to figure out how to run it on MetroPCS. Another thing that captivated me about the phone was the KEYBOARD. I thought how genius it was to have something so handy, conveniently built right in. I learned about the "Xandroid" project, and was in love with Android running on my outdated windows phone. I learned to like and understand the efficiency of having an Android phone and soon wanted to look for one. I had noticed all over forums online that people had dropped my phone, and went over to the "Epic" I remember thinking how funny of a title that was, but I didn't pay too much attention to it, nor did I bother looking it up.
Wasn't till October 2011 that I decided to look for an Android phone on google, then search for its price on craigslist. I remember thinking how much of a headache it was to look for one, there were SO many phones, and I didn't know what to pick, my sister had recently bought the Evo, and being a Mexican with pride, I didn't want to piggy-back and get the same phone, but something that rivaled the Evo. To show my sister how much cooler my phone was. I came across the Samsung Captivate and Vibrant, loved the screens, and the phones looked nice. Went to craigslist, made the deal, when i met up with the seller, he said he didn't bring the phone.
I was like "wtf?, so you came three hours away from where you live, asking me to bring my money, just so you show up without it?" He said "Listen, I've got a better phone to offer you, and for the same price, unlike the deal i offered you, this one is BRAND-NEW" Turned out he was an authorized dealer and the phone was the Samsung Epic 4G.
I felt the smoothness of the case as i took it out of its box. I turned the phone on, being the first time I had ever seen a SuperAMOLED screen, and needing glasses, the brightness from the Samsung Bootup logo made my eyes squint. I had found my phone. The responsiveness blew the TouchPro2 out of the water, and while I tried to keep my cool in front of the seller, i pretended like it wasn't anything special. I ended up making the purchase, getting it flashed to MetroPCS, moving away from Texas, and re-programming it to Virgin Mobile here in Oregon.
And that's my Cell-Phone life story. Why did I share that? I don't know, but trust me, I appreciate my phone ALOT. So for you noobs out there that simply bought it and don't see what's so great, it's a big step-up, cherish it.
NOW back to the Humor!
I remember when I had my Touch Pro 2 and I saw that it had an app that said XDA, and this weird talk about root, and seeing a post with people saying, "good thing my phone's rooted!"
And I thought to myself, hm... I don't know what this root thing is, but obviously, it means backing up your phone's information to this Xda-Developer's Site on a backup server or something. Eh. Guess Rooting is handy.
I remember when I searched adult things on the android market with my old HeroC and wanted to erase the search history then found out about rooting online after a Google search
I remember when I flashed a leaked Froyo build just for the new Youtube UI
I remember posting in Dec sec for help I think
I also pmed noobnl for help cause I got computer ... triangle ... phone very early doing something
I can't remember

I remember when I rooted my samsung moment entirely because I wanted a live wallpaper which was disabled by default.
Those who had a moment will understand just how noobish it was to bog that phone down with a live wallpaper haha.

I started out on Qwest Wireless on the oldest and crappiest phone I'd ever seen. But hey, it had a camera...which was the bees knees. Then when Qwest merged with Verizon, I got the LG Voyager. Pretty dumb phone looking back, but the keyboard was top notch. That was when my uncle walked up with this fancy new cell phone. He called it his "Android". It turned out to be the T-Mobile G1. I played around with it and well...that was the end of that. I was hell bent on my next phone being Android powered. Note this thing was running Cupcake. That's how big a step up it was. I researched and researched for months and months until sometime mid-summer 2010. When I saw...it. 4" screen, full qwerty keyboard, Android 2.1, and so much more. It was...Epic. And I knew what I had to do. So I convinced my mother to switch to Sprint from Verizon so I could have it. And here we are.
Then Randy Shear taught me how to root and I flashed the latest ROMs. This was back before I knew that you could swap system files from other ROMs and benchmarks meant the world. I went with Viper ROM because it had the latest music player(you could toggle it from the notification area!). Eventually I settled on Bonsai and Rodderik released a 2.2 kernel that could overclock to 1.2GHZ! BEFORE SOURCE! WOWZERS! Then I met qbking77(on the BakedSnack threads lol) and joined ACS. It all seems so far away.
I remember when everything dev I'm doing now seemed impossible. I remember when iSaint wasn't a troll(HA!). I remember getting MIUI 1.3.5 up with Mike_77, asdfghjkl, raymond and fusingblackrose. I remember when joining the Syndicate mattered. I remember when I started my first thread and got torn up by a developer. When we prided ourselves on having no development but a great community...and hated the EVO even more so than now.
While there may be new phones and different operating systems, I will always remember and cherish the Epic 4G community for what it was, what it is, and what it will be. Thank you everyone! Old and new!
**I am so going to copy/paste that for my goodbye thread.

Lmao at SDX! I remember that site, you guys helped me out alot.. Thanks!
Memories.. hmm..
I remember when the Epic was a "forgotten" phone and people would complain and the devs and vets would just say be patient.. Patience is a virtue, because now I have 3 ICS roms to choose from!
Back further I remember when XDA didn't have much CDMA work going so I had to go between here SDX and PPCGeeks lol I'll have to log in and check how those guys are doing..
Back further I remember getting Android on my PPC-6800 aka the "Mogul" aka the iPhone Killer lol.. Having that phone was a big deal back then lol
And back even further I remember flashing my first rom on a PPC-6700 Apache which may be the last smartphone to have a freakin antennae on it!
Good times thanks to all of the great devs who have helped me out over the years..
I remember learning about xda from my friend's dad when he was rooting my friend's captivate then wanting to root my epic.
I remember when I first rooted without the one click (the root method by joeykrim and noobnl) and then using my phone stock rooted keeping my bloatware and everything. I tried getting clockwork mod but there were like 10 scripts called things like "usethisifthefirstandsecondandthirddontwork.bat" and I was just too confused. I eventually took the plunge and wanted to go on dk28. I odined to it and then flashed the viper rom.

I'm glad I dnt have to do that anymore

I remember when I first got my Samsung Moment with cupcake on it. I was jealous of my older brother with his old Touchpro who would flash different roms. So I used google to look for custom roms for the Samsung Moment. I ended up a site called SDX-Developers, I found the first rom made by Calkulin. Reading through the instructions which were linked to instructions by joeykrim which than I ended up rooting my phone putting his reocvery on the moment. Now I am able to compile a rom, debloat roms before flashing them.
I remember when I had got the Samsung moment when it came out and I was told about rooting the phone I spent 3 months trying to figure it out and never got it man I felt so dumb lol
Epic 4g, CM9 Beta, EL30, Shadow

I think we vastly improve our skills as we begin to sharpen them, second and third time round is always faster.
Repgrogramming my first phone to a different carrier first took me 1 week to figure out with a guide,
Reprogramming second time through, without a guide to go by took 9 hours to figure out on my own.
Third time through took under 30 mins, mostly for protocol, checking and making sure everything is functional.
Rooting took like 20 mins of thorough reading first time through for me.

I remember the Moment as my first phone I ever rooted, over on sdx. I was always in a battle trying to top Zeinzu's desktop wallpapers
I also remember when Zanderman112 wouldnt root, so many other things will never be forgotten, along with this entire epic community.

My first phone that I modded was the T-mobile Wing. Lol. And SDX is still there and kicking. Most is just a copy from here now. The moment was getting 2.3. Lmao. That poor phone. This has been one of the best group of ppl. If not the best on XDA. Our forums are the cleanest, respected, and everyone knows everyone and gets along. I go look into other phones and I wanna just go off on them. Like wtf, its so bad the search button says fu I'm not touching that. I hope we move to a newer phone together. ;0) We've all noobed together.
This is such an awesome thread.
And nova...give me a new SuperNova! I won't use it. But I want it to exist. Collab with me on Mortify or something!
I remember using SuperNova back when DK28 had just come around. It had THE BEST boot animation ever. It didn't score the highest...back when scores mattered...but the dev was a cool guy and that was good enough for me. And he had the most ADDONS! LOVE THE ADDONS!
Oh and I remember flashing Syndicate ROM and BakedSnack 1.3 and saying "Wow these are almost as fast as DK28!" Even though they were probably much slower.
