Can't root mt3g 32b - myTouch 3G, Magic General

SO my roommate and I have been trying for daays to root my phone now and we just dont know what to do. He has a rooted nexus one and knows how to do alot of stuff and we cannot figure this out.
So far alls we have been able to do is downgrade to cupcake using the goldcard method. We used the method from the UNLOCKR and can get as far as installing the rom and it will reboot and stay on the vodaphone screen for hours and do nothing i have tried taking the battery out and restarting multiple times. Just something isnt working here.
I then reverted back to the goldcard and tried doing the one click method and whenever i try to backup the recovery image, it says backup failed.
I hate 1.5 and hated 1.6 I have spent many many many hours trying to do this and just cannot figure this out. If anybody has any idea whats going on here any help would be appreciated.
Questions:
I see many people while rooted have the mytouch loading screen, mine is now vodafone? why?
any links or very specific instructions to get me as far as loading a rom again?

I would really appreciate any help.

uk vodafone HTC Magic / perfected SPL & remote: not allow!

Hi guys, dont know if I have asked this question in the right place, but here goes. I have had my magic 32b on Vodafone for 8 months, and for the last 6 I have been using Fatal1ty's hero/rosie rom with mainly satisfaction, after disabling the touch-flo home screen nonsense. There were a few issues that niggled me so I tried to hunt down a newer version. Somehow, after upgrading successfully to CM5 and liking the look, I backed up via nandroid and flashed a new rom. I am now stuck with a T-Mobile mt3g rom which wont let me get passed the google sign up screen, and my data package is not in service until monday.
here is what my details look like as of now......

I have read so many posts now that im not sure where to start. I would like to know if there is a SAPPimg available to overcome this problem, i cannot access phone via adb or fastboot as i have no custom recovery installed anymore and no access via fastboot as remote is not allowed!
My hair is turning ever greyer, any help would be amazing.
(already tried the goldcard routine with no avail, but maybe i did it wrong.)
Peace

Can i get some help with a VF Magic 32B?

Hey,
I have a Vodafone Magic 32B, which I am using with a Three simcard.
Yesterday, I started trying to root my device.
My device was running 1.6, so I tried to downgrade, following theunlockr. com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/
After many issues, I managed to get to stage 27.
Noticing that he linked to a 32A Driver, i instead tried to progress with the lastest AmonRa-Sapphire-V1.7.0G.img.
When this didn't work, I tried a few other versions that I had downloaded throughout my exploration of rooting.
At this point, it was 4.30 in the morning, and I decided to call it quits.
Luckily, i had made a nandroid backup.
I restored it, and, thank god, my phone booted.
However, it wasn't a restore as such.
The menu is different, the app store is different (and the camera is noticeably poorer).
However, checking the Firmware version, it says v1.5?!
1)Does this mean I successfully downgraded?
2)From here, how would i root the phone?
3)After i root the phone, is there any way to get back to the 1.6 interface? With a better camera (that can be accessed by apps)?
Thanks for any advice you can give. I'm aware that there may be loads of post like this, because i spent a good 12 hours yesterday sifting through the various methods. However, I would really appreciate any help, because I don't want to brick my new phone (i just got it, second hand, yesterday).
Figured that i'd post what pops up on the fastboot screen

HTC Magic won't boot after ROM update

Hi,
I have rooted my HTC Android Donut 1.6 with Goldcard method yesterday, because simpler method wasn't working for me (It was a lot of work and lots of info to consume for first timer, wheew...). So I was back to Cupcake 1.5. Today I updated my recovery ROM to recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G, because old recovery ROM wasn't loading (Home+Power got stuck at Vodafone screen).
After that I downloaded TMUS-32B-Froyo-CM6Remix from the forum and tried to flash it through recovery mode, everything went fine, but after rebooting device wouldn't go past Vodafone screen. I tried wiping out and reflashing, tried few other ROMs, but nothing helps, same problem. I spent 4 hours trying to figure out WTF and frustration is kicking in... Please, could somebody help me out?
FastBoot screen says:

You flashed wrong recovery, you must flash H recovery see at the end of your file/device
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA application
I just tried to change ROM to recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H. After that I reflashed ROM TMUS-32B-Froyo-CM6Remix. Still doesn't boot. Any other ideas?
What were your first specs?
I really don't know. I never bothered to write them down, because I didn't expect to get to this point following tutorials, that everyone uses.
Make sure your flashing a 32b rom and did you wipe everything first
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I only tried to install 32B ROMs and always wiped out data before flashing. I even tried wiping out through fastboot and cmd.exe with command "fastboot wipe system -w".
So many views in this thread and no helpful answers. So, no one knows how to fix this? I would really be satisfied if I could at least revert it back to original OS and wouldn't touch it anymore. It's driving me crazy...
It took me whole efing day, but I finally solved the problem... I was searching google for this "SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B ENG S-OFF H" and found some german forum. Some guy had similar problem, and had a solution for it. Now I'm back on Cupcake 1.5. Most important thing is that, I'm able to boot device.
So, could anyone suggest what steps should I take to not get in same position? What rooting path (tutorial) should I take and what precautions?
Now I'm on:

With the Rogers updates, they only work if you're going from the stock ROM, which I removed a long time ago. I believe I need to update the radio and SPL. I realize there are FAQs and troubleshooting guides but nothing I've found has helped and I don't want to brick my phone by taking a wild guess. I am completely lost on changing my Radio and SPL and updating to Android 2.1, so if anybody could walk me through I would really appreciate it. I've been stuck with Wi-Fi only and an outdated version of Android for a long time and it's time I did something to fix it. Thanks to anybody that can help.

You need to flash via recovery(if you have custom one), eng spl 1.33.2010, to have fastboot commands. End then you need eyegor's radio switcher to flash new radio and spl for sense rom, and then you flash capys rom rogers
How might I "flash via recovery"? I am unsure how to actually perform this without bricking my phone. Like I said, it's been a while since I've messed with it. I have downloaded recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img, update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip, and the Radio Switch GUI v4. I'm willing to take a shot at it, with the worst case scenario being me having to get a new phone, but I honestly don't know where to start. All of the guides that I see aren't very specific and assume that the user already knows what they're doing. I know the usual advice is "if you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be doing it" but I've not got much to lose here, and a lot to gain.

You have S-Off so just lookup on how to use fastboot commands to flash the needed radio, recovery and spl.
I really hope that this isn't a US T-Mobile device.

First combo, we could have helped you out...
But the second combo... ooohhh... bad one...
Perfected spl and wrong radio/spl combo... NOT GOOD!
Try to flash the sappimg.zip that gave you the first spl version (1.33.2010).
If you get that back, then we can work out the rest pretty easy!

Are you trying to intentionally brick your friends phone?
[RANT]
I'm guessing that you didn't do much reading before actually messing with his phone did you?
MyTouch 1.2 (aka Fender, aka LE) w/3.5mm headphone jack
Ultimate Guide: How to root myTouch 1.2/LE Fender (3.5mm jack)
Look, I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time but this is exactly what I was talking about a few days ago.
There is so much confusion over this device! It's not hard! Anyone that thinks that is is should have been around when the device first came out! DAMN THAT WAS ROUGH! But it was a learning experience. And through that learning experience we made apps (Androot) and guides and stickies JUST FOR THIS! Yet... how does this keep happening??? Someone explain it to me... please. I'm desperate to know.
[/RANT]
With that said... you are going to have to use a goldcard now that you have S-ON, still not rooted, no custom recovery, etc. You won't be able to boot the phone up because you are DEFINITLY using the wrong radio. You'll be lucky if you didn't completely brick it already.
Use the links above to create a goldcard. I'll warn you that this can be a pain in the butt ( not to mention that some sdcards are notorious for not working at all for this method!) because it requires getting ANOTHER android phone, putting the sdcard in to get the serial number of the sdcard (unless someone knows another way to get it), entering the code into a website to get the goldcard image e-mailed to you then using a hex editor to copy the bootsectors of that goldcard image enter the code into the hardware of the sdcard via card reader so you can use the freshly made goldcard, then all that's left is dowloading the right sappimg.zip file, placing it on the root of the sdcard and booting into the bootloader. You would flash the goldcard image At that point you will be have the Engineering (S-OFF) SPL again and the CORRECT radio. Once that is done you only need to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (G type, not H)
Then flash the stock SPL back.
Then you will be free to flash a 32B type rom through recovery.
After you have done ALL OF THAT! Your friend might spare your life.
Here... try something like this. Maybe you can find someone to help.
http://hartford.craigslist.org/search/mob?query=root&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=
I think you're Hartford area... if not then just adjust if necessary.
