Fro Yo?
Froy O?
All the Google I/O vids I watched they said FROY-oh. I thought it was based on FROzen YOgurt? FRO - YO. No?
Outside of Google IO, I've never heard anyone call it FROY OH.

well its frozen yoghurt so it should be called fro yo so it still sounds like yoghurt
I'm always worried about mispronouncing it out of laziness so I go the extra mile and say "Froy Yo"... Can't have too many Y sounds in a row, doncha know...

THAT is bizarre. They do say it weird, froy-oh. what the heck.
If im not mistaken, and given that frozen yogurt stuff has taken california by storm, froyo in pop culture is pronounced fro-yo, and that is how i have been saying it lol.

granted that, if you watch the video, they are clearly in perfect command of american standard english with zero accent what so ever. so whatever the reason for froyos pronunciation, i cant attribute it to their english skills
Vic Gundotra used to be a higher up at microsoft, started there before 1991, so he's been here in the U.S. for at least nearly 20 years.
English in the US is affected by regional dialects and colloquialisms just like any other language.
I'm from Chicago and we pronounce certain things differently than say someone from Dallas. Even my business associate from New York can say the most simple things differently from me.
Fro-Yo or Froy-O; either is acceptable. None of that matters anyways since it's not a real word.
I call it Android 2.2, unless I want to #### with people, then I call it "forgurt" and if anyone mentions "froyo" I act like they're insane.

typically any short form of a phrase has everything to do with what it is formed from. FROzen YOghurt. It seems the simplest solution is to pronounce as a combination - FRO-YO rather than make a new term - FROY-OH
edit: I think we realise we are discussing an irrelevant point. But that is what most of the internet is.

Yeah and it's HORRIBLE. I had a date with a really cute girl who just so happened to be the daughter of one of my colleagues, and I was texting my buddy about her, she got one of my texts to him and cancelled the date on me. To make matters worse, she told her dad and he made a comment to me about it. Now, I'm always nervous about sending private texts to people for fear that they are going to go to someone else. It is completely inexcusable and needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.
Both issues are "inexcusable"
Although I will tell you that I've NEVER had the issue with ANY SMS program besides the stock one.
I've had consistent SMS issues with CM6. I really hope Gingerbread will have fixed these issues, but I have to doubt it.

Has anybody even experienced the SMS bug? Only 1.5% of users are experiencing this which equates to approximately 4,500. This is stemming from the daily 250,000 android activations so the bug is not THAT big of a deal. I think the press is the only reason Google hyped up it's urgency level. I don't even think it's a bug. I've noticed with a lot of android phones if you switch persons too quick in your messaging apps it picks the wrong person, which you wont notice and is where the whole sending to the wrong person goes.

Wouldn't discount its a "bug" but I also think its starting to get blown out of proportion. All of a sudden everyone has had an experience with a random girl and their boss / work colleague something dirty. Hah I don't doubt that its real, but the length at which this was "around" and now all if a sudden **** is raining hell fire. Don't discount its validity but maybe its severity. Clearly it isn't happening to everyone. And clearly it has become troll fodder. Everyone now has a "story" that sounds strangely similar .... :suspiciouseyes

well that's obviously because AT&T has crap coverage in rural areas. Same can be said about iPhone more likely to live in the city. Well, if 2 out of 1000 iPhoners have Yahoo mail and 3 out of 1000 Androiders, then that would be "50% more likely," even though essentially nobody on either side actually has it.

Actually, it says that iphone users are "more likely to say they lead," which I tend to believe. Studies have shown that "popular kids" and those who think they are trend-setters tend to be the biggest followers (copying what they see on TV, movies, ads, etc.). iPhone users believe they are leaders and trend-setters because they're doing what they see other popular people do, but clearly there's a difference between saying you're a leader and actually being one.

Yeah, I was going to come here and say that might also mean android users are just more likely to have multiple email addresses.
Edit: And now that I've continued reading, I see that is not case. I'm skeptical. Though we are more likely to be gmail users, so, maybe we don't need the other crap.
I had to come comment on the "122% more likely to want a pretty looking, but worthless, device" that's the iPhone demo to a T
(not that the iPhone is worthless, but they definitely have that attitude.)
That is the dumbest **** I ever read. Apple propaganda. Sad thing is it will actually work on someone.
I suppose the take home message here is that android has come full circle. We here on XDA aren't your average android user anymore. The average android user is someone that went to best buy and figured "if I'm going to pay ____, I may as well get a smartphone."
In other words, this is really a testament to the extent that android has done away with the concept of "dumbphones," more than it is a statement about user differences.
This may as well be iPhone users vs the public.

Well, I don't think "propaganda" is fair. I don't think anyone is trying to pull one over on anyone, or make a point.
It's just important to keep in mind that this is a self selecting survey, with no verification. Perhaps iPhone users exaggerated, or weren't quite honest with themselves, as someone already hinted at. To me a large number of the answers iPhone look like they're trying too hard to look special/deep. "Look at me! My fav ice cream is salted caramel, my fav food is tapas, my fav fruit is the clementine!"
Edit: not to mention a lot of the points are "iPhone users are more likely to spend money, regardless of the return" Well, no kidding. Maybe way more iPhone users use gogoinflight because android users, correctly, IMO, think paying $13 to have internet access for 3 hours is absurd. So, you can take a lot of these data points either way.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!

I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Yea, read the article earlier and i can say that TreVe is as innocent as a saint who landed in a Strip club by accident.
I would not be worried if i was him though. CIQ are in deep ****, their initial intentions were to get TrEve to panic and write them a letter of apology because of the 24-hour deadline.
What TrEve did is not an act of piracy as he was solely reading the codes for Educational and journalism purposes, and the laws allow this as long as he does not redistribute these codes himself. Logically speaking though, there is absolutely nothing wrong about wanting to know what's going on inside your handset and what the guy discovered is actually quite scary. Why on earth would CIQ implement their codes on sense UI, etc....? Seems kind of creepy if you ask me. What other hidden codes might they have? Why on earth did HTC allow this?....because there is absolutely no way that they don't know about the hidden codes.
I am with TrEve 100% on this one, definitely posting these on FB, G+, etc....
yeah, i was asking about it myself a few days ago

Agreed, they focused much more on the legal aspects of the story than they did being informative about Carrier-IQ. It seams like they dont want to risk getting a C&D letter too.
carrier-iq withdraws C&D.
http://briefmobile.com/breaking-carrier-iq-has-withdrawn-cease-and-desist-order-on-tevor-eckhart
and they apologized, as well.
However, damage is done, i'd say.

I just read the same story here:
http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/23/carrier-iq-retracts-their-cd-apologizes-to-the-android-researcher/
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/the-storm-is-not-over-yet-lets-talk-about-ciq/
Two "new" stories today:
Android Central
Android Community w video of keystroke recording.
Atrix infected with Carrier-iq
Can anyone confirm that the Atrix is currently with or without any of the Carrier-IQ spyware?
From what I have ready its not in MOTO devices (yet) but there is probably something similar. Another reason to move to CM7 when it gets mature enough for me to use (I'm sticking with Aura for the time being, and thoroughly enjoying it I might add).

They say it's baked into the Kernel and RAM. So if we have this and we are running CM7 with a custom kernel we could still have it.

My understanding was that if you run CM7, you're clean.

The atrix 2 appears to have it, but probably atrix doesn't, might figure the next update if it ever comes will have it
Wow collecting info without us knowing. That's got to be illegal on some level. Glad I switched to cm7 the day I got my phone now

i don't know if i should be offended or glad that our phones weren't invited to this party.
Apple's Siri voice control system is as a 'digital personal assistant' designed to allow you to talk to your phone like you talk to other people.
Many Google Android functions already have similar apps built in - although not quite to the specifications of Apple's much-hyped control systems.
Now it seems Google may be about to unveil an official Android rival to Siri - called Majel after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the actor who played the voice of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek.
The name was reported by sources speaking to the Android and Me blog this week.
The name tallies with earlier comments from Google staffers about a 'Star Trek'-like approach.
Google is definitely working on such a system - and this week announced that it had acquired the company Clever Sense, which offers a voice control app.
'I say this year because I’ve heard that engineers at Google X are working around the clock on finishing the first release and the NYTimes previously reported that one product would be released by Google X this year,' wrote Android and Me.
Google X is the search giant's 'blue sky ideas' division - a secretive lab where engineers are free to go wild with ideas such as talking fridges and lifts that take you to space.
'A January or February release might be more realistic,' said Android and Me. 'Other more advanced features like controlling phone actions and applications with natural language commands are expected to come later.'
In earlier interviews, Google acknowledged that it was indeed working on such as product - and that it would be rather like the voice of the Starship Enterprise.
'Our approach is more like Star Trek, the Starship Enterprise - everything is voice-aware,' said Google's Matias Duarte.

Looks like a good idea, and I can't wait to reboot my phone and hear, Last time on your nexus S!
Hope there will be a French support version ...
OMG! my dream has come true
Im glad they are doing away with the quirks and making it more serious, I don't really like the idea of my phone making jokes when I ask it to do something for me
This doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. I have never found a use, really, for Voice Recognition on my phone.

Siri-like function is really not useful in non-English-speaking countries. So I don't expect it at all.

Well, apple just applied for a patent on, well basically multitasking. Something their phone doesn't even really do.
I wonder how long it will take for them to blow all their cash suing other companies.
The sooner the better IMO.
I hope Google gets majel to do the voice for this app. Then fire a couple quantum photon torpedoes at Apple and make them have no patents and have to pay licenses to every single tech company in the world.
