Running his logging finder app thingy doesn't show any of the normal CIQ logs. I think Blur has it's own "phone home" service baked in, not some third-party hack job.
Nice article. I'll be following this one closely! Very interesting.

Yea, read the article earlier and i can say that TreVe is as innocent as a saint who landed in a Strip club by accident.
I would not be worried if i was him though. CIQ are in deep ****, their initial intentions were to get TrEve to panic and write them a letter of apology because of the 24-hour deadline.
What TrEve did is not an act of piracy as he was solely reading the codes for Educational and journalism purposes, and the laws allow this as long as he does not redistribute these codes himself. Logically speaking though, there is absolutely nothing wrong about wanting to know what's going on inside your handset and what the guy discovered is actually quite scary. Why on earth would CIQ implement their codes on sense UI, etc....? Seems kind of creepy if you ask me. What other hidden codes might they have? Why on earth did HTC allow this?....because there is absolutely no way that they don't know about the hidden codes.
I am with TrEve 100% on this one, definitely posting these on FB, G+, etc....
yeah, i was asking about it myself a few days ago

They say it's baked into the Kernel and RAM. So if we have this and we are running CM7 with a custom kernel we could still have it.

Agreed, they focused much more on the legal aspects of the story than they did being informative about Carrier-IQ. It seams like they dont want to risk getting a C&D letter too.

Can anyone confirm that the Atrix is currently with or without any of the Carrier-IQ spyware?
From what I have ready its not in MOTO devices (yet) but there is probably something similar. Another reason to move to CM7 when it gets mature enough for me to use (I'm sticking with Aura for the time being, and thoroughly enjoying it I might add).

I didnt see the original thread regarding the leak that was closed. I seen the tweet from noob the other night. The leak according to noob is very unstable and only given to a select few. Im glad it went to his hands first, to protect the source and in hope of putting out something stable. If not at least the source is protected and we me get a RC out of him later. Noobnl is great asset for the epic community and I think the bashing should stop and let them see what they can do. Hopefully they can put out a good base for other devs to work off of.
To noobnl
After reading through the op that's was closed you didn't really say much. Can you enlighten us as to this leak can be used for a rom soon or is it too unstable and ur waiting on another build?
lol the pic really doesnt prove anything.. these devs have skills and they can easily just put froyo in there..
he has a beta
ya dude.. he's the coolest kid in cool town right now.
noob is working on CM6 wich is a asop built from source based on froyo. that image is real as he got cm6 to boot but it is not close to being stable. last i herd the ffc didnt work, no data or wifi. give it some time and the guys over at cynogan will have froyo for us

It was leaked to somebody else who gave it to him so he could do something about it.
The only reason he isnt leaking it to us is because every file in it is tagged with the name of the employee who gave it to him. so if he then leaks it, he is jeopardizing the job of that employee

Wait, so just out of curiosity, was it the employee who leaked it to him? or did sprint authorize it? Because, if they were smart, they would have authorized it but made it seem like it was a rogue employee/mischievous early adopter.

Yes, because its in Sprints best interest to leak a buggy beta version of a rom out to the general public and then have to deal with the inevitable "I dont know what happened, my phone wont turn on. Can you replace it?" people.
I'm a bit of a conspiricy theorst, so ill enter tain every one with a tale.
I think this may be an intentional leak on behalf of sprint. Maybe they were having some problems and needed a little help from the community. HTC has been doing it for years.Does anyone else think a total newbie starts an account here and within 4 posts is showing pics of his epic with froyo claiming to have gotten it from a sprint employee is or isn't really weird? Our own inside sprint guy whosdaman had never even seen this.
When said lurker is asked he says he ismore than willing to share, jut needs help to give it to us because to update killed his root and cwm. Underrstandable.
Also a perfect ruse....
Here is what sprint didn't know, nay, couldn't know.
I think 1 of 2 things could have happened here.
A. They didn't count on noobnl being a jerk who just wants profit from donations(or maybe not profit at all. Just for ego) via his rom which would be the first 2.2 or to incorperate elements of this. Now don't get me wrong. Noobnl is the man fo epic, but really, aren't we all a little bit selfish? I would totally love to be the guy the leak trusted. This could be true because the op in the first leak thread never ever mentioned any radio crashing issues or anything else. He iks using it as a daily with little or no problems.
Also he was tottally willing to just give it up because whosdaman promised no personal info would be in a dump. Even if there was, it could be removed be
the first source (moob and who's). There is no way to tie 1 employees name or id number t every single line of code is there? I don't know. I don't claim to be an expert. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty ignorant.
Noobnl culd have gotten it and said anything he wants. Personally, I don't think I've even seen noobnl say anything about privacy, just that its crappy. Just minions and whatnot have been putting that out there.
Or B. It was a crappy dump (double entendre) and rfeally is buggy and stupid because there was an error or something or who knows and really it is stable, because it really bugs me that the original leaker is talking about NO radio crashing or buggieness.
Or I'm crazy and short on sleep on this daylight savings clock set back one hour night. That's proly it.
I hope you were entertained.
ONCE AGAIN: NO DISRESPECT TO NOOBNL! HE IS THE MAN WITHOUT A DOUBT. JUST YOU NEVER KNOW, YOU KNOW?

no its not, then we would have hundreds of threads in teh dev forum asking how to use odin and why things arent working etc etc. how the leak got out is much more important then everyone have a crappy version of it 2 weeks in advance.
Well, that little bit of action would at least be more exiting that this board hs been lately. A lot of evo owners coming over to brag how much development they have bec, ause open source means opensource over there and a dev would never hold out a leak from the community. Idk I'm just talking you know. I guess starting a little convo.

it would be a huge victory for Samsung to pass on froyo and release GB within the week. It would catapult them past HTC and motorola in the significance area of Android development. I think they need to do this if they want to regain lost respect.
Since Nexus S is galaxy S with GB on it already and is basically 99.9 the same as our phone, I definitely think it's doable. I would definitely prefer gingerbread. I want it just for the newer copy/paste feature.
God man, all this misinformation. Let me clear it up for you. We are most likely NOT going to skip froyo (2.2). Gingerbread (2.3) has ALREADY BEEN RELEASED and it is on a phone called the Nexus S on T-Mobile USA. Honeycomb (2.4 or 3.0) is for tablets in its current form. Man, this getting ridiculous.

I like how he says, "...what the big announcement was all about...", implying there will not be an announcement now.
No offense meant, but all the secrecy going around this rumor is kinda building up a paper castle.
SamsungJohn works for Samsung, not Sprint. He can't offer us anything that affects Sprint (our contract holder) unless they've worked out a deal before-hand and, even then, Sprint would be the face of the offering. Why would Sprint's partner, Samsung, skip them completely and go directly to the customer? These aren't appliances.
I doubt they worked out a deal beforehand because the whole XDA debacle would have never happened. It would have been presented behind the scenes well before we ever caught wind of it.
So, yes, I'm curious, too, but don't get your hopes up too much. Remember, "HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT" doesn't mean the same thing to one person as it does the other. Expect crap but hope for diamonds and somewhere in between lies the truth.
Noobnl speaking makes me think a little bit. When he says "future is bright"....well I'm encouraged.
My first thought? Xda will act as samsungs beta grounds...which would mean full disclosure.
I'm imagining us receiving full device driver source code...
Think about...we could theoretically port every android update on our own. Which honestly would be nice, and really, a win-win for everybody..
Samsung wouldn't have to put in the man power or money to update our phones, and we would still have access to every current update...samsung would then have a bunch of happy customers without breaking a sweat...
Because I mean really, wouldn't we all be happier with the source code over an ota anyday?
I think I might have the nail on the head...

I have talked to him MSN Messenger and I can't say what the big announcement was because that would make too much sense and ruin the constant "wtf is going on?" aura that surrounds the Epic support from Samsung and Sprint, I can tell you that eventually something will happen.

So after years of enjoying xda anonymously I had to ask: why the sudden secrecy about the ICS leak for the Atrix 4G?
I've been enjoying xda for my Bionic and over 'there' (lol) we don't care. If there is a leak we all go crazy and post howto's and upload it to a dozen fileshare sites, share info and just go buck ass wild.
Over the past couple of days I noticed there was a thread about a leak, then it got deleted, and ever since then it's "That ROM" and everyone is anal about providing info about it. What's the big deal? Really. Someone explain it.
I would love to get an ICS leak for my wife's Atrix 4G. She's having so much trouble with cellular data and Wifi it would be like a new phone to her.
I just went back to stock on my Bionic to wait for a soak test OTA for ICS I was invited for. If it works as well as the leak I've been running for months I'll be happy as a slinky on an escalator (sorry, had to use that one. It's from a US commercial and cracks me up).
So, what's the big deal with the secrecy?
The problem with XDA is perpetual misinformation.
Thread got deleted. People jumped to conclusions, thought it must be Motorola or some other company. Now everyone thinks if they keep it all "hush hush" that they won't realise people are bug testing and developing on the leak lol
The other day people got pissy and suspicious when someone who's been here for years (but only posted recently, sorta like how i started here) because he asked for AT&T APK's and logs (plaintext, anyone could comb through for personal info and remove it before sending).

I SAW THAT .. that was hilarious. I was really close to comment about that in my first post; something like "Don't worry, I promise I'm no undercover spook from Apple" (since they own the Atrix's fingerprint reader company now). Bringing Apple in here would have really stirred up some ****
I guess I'll wait until things die down and get organized. My wife doesn't like me messing with her phone so I need to get it right the first time lol
Initially there was a mis-understanding due to lack of information, people assumed and inferred too much from epinter's thread removal. Whether or not the paranoia is justified, fact remains that epinter wanted his thread removed and that some company wanted the leak hushed in XDA although they did not do it via the right channels.
Now I think it became the defacto standard to call the leak 'that rom', not due to paranoia but because people are familiar with that name. Its quite cool too, adds a story to our beloved phone.
We are all masons. That's why.

I do often think that I'm one of the few here who has a lick of common sense. But I guess it's easier to go with the smart-ass answer than admit you may be part of the problem, eh?

But you won't be sued. You are anonymous but the board is not and I don't think they have enough money to go against software companies.

Interesting. Now, back to what I was actually talking about, re: people making baseless assumptions and running with them until they become convinced it's "the truth" (and presenting it as unsubstantiated fact). Any opinions on that, sir?

Says the person who won't even discuss the issue I brought up, who instead tries to deflect the issue by talking about something else? Okay, sure.
Atrix ICS/JB over due!!
Atrix deserves an ICS update!! Love this Phone.
Personally I feel that the community should set an example by creating a stable ICS/JB build for the phone.

You're new here, but don't ever expect anything from the community. They "should"? No, they shouldn't do anything, they don't owe you or me anything. Be happy with what they're already done.

Forgive my sense of humour...
If your wife insisting on ICS then the easiest solution is divorcing her, otherwise your marriage is safe in spite of her Atrix ownership.
A working ICS ROM is not going to happen from any ROM leaks unless Motorola finishs cooking the ROM. The support of ICS ROM by XDA members would be an issue, at least for me.

Cooking????? ROM??????
And why would a Firmware supported by xda developers be a problem for you?

Lol. My wife doesn't care what she runs but she has horrible issues with cellular data stability. I had too with my Bionic before I installed an ICS leak. That's why I'm banking on this leak.
I don't know the state of this leak, but if it is anything like the Bionic leaks it's good enough.

And if you ever feel the community should do something, set up an example and... do it then share with others.
Punit Soni needs to know that there is a lot of people intested in the kernel source of their incomplete work on ICS.
Let's ask him for that https://plus.google.com/111499908439497508351
I think it could help us to get an working ICS =)
Thank you Guys!
We were lucky to get anything other than a standard textbook reply from Motorola. Motorola will never release source as it has a lot of proprietary code and drivers to which they might no longer have rights to. Also, I can't imagine them releasing it only to be told that unpaid enthusiasts were able to do what their employees couldn't.

I don't think Punit Soni is the right guy for that.

But if we get only the GPL sources, we could use the proprietary libraries in the leak. If the proprietary libraries are ok, then we could fix the problems with the leak's kernel (like battery drain, deep sleep).
In fact, looks like they have reasons to not release the GPL sources... But doesn't hurt to ask Punit Soni about it...

He isnt the vice president of moto. He is the vice president of product management. For about a month straight the atrix and photon community asked him over and over to do something to no avail. By all means, try again. But just saying, its been done before.
Well let's just add a layer of anger. I'm pretty bored of this crappy company not giving us what we need.
imho Punit is the guy that's responsible for the cancellation of ICS update. He was talking about bitter decisions before the announcement.
And as an employee of Google, he wont give anything that will give more life to Atrix.
If you want a phone with 4.x, sell your Atrix or work some overtime and buy another phone.

May I ask why are you still following Atrix threads and posting posts like this?! If you have or made decision to buy another phone, just buy it and leave others without your advises.

Thanks for the advice. But couldn't you tell me how to get 300€ to get a Nexus 4 ? I bought my Atrix 6 months ago and I waited something like 6 months to buy it.

make atrix users post comments for need of atrix ics or kernel in his g+:fingers-crossed:
Krystian Plonski posted about engineering atrixes with enabled uart on headset jack. Let's put a "+1" on his request!!

Because I still use the Atrix, obviously. See how it does that nifty trick of saying what its sent with?
I'm not sitting here complaining about ICS for the Atrix. I use CM10 If you want ICS, get another phone. Very simple. Like me, I'm working overtime to buy another phone. But trying to spam a guy isn't going to get ICS on your phone.
And I should point out you are in the wrong place to tell someone they can't advise people abut phones.

This is not first time that you're giving that kind of advice. Someone is not willing to work overtime or just can't. Someone just like Atrix size and features, doesn't need anything better... So many reasons.
Actually you're wrong. I had Desire. HTC announced that will not be GB update. Community was so loud that HTC change its mind. If a lot of people request, Motorola must do something. The worst thing is to do what you did, buy another phone (doesn't matter which vendor) because that's exactly what vendors wish!

Buy Nexus. Problem solved. If you don't, don't expect updates. View them as miracles if they get pushed trough.
