video out options - EVO 4G General

rather then use the hdmi out on the evo is it possible to use the incredible's usb tv out? i ask because i know the hdmi appears to be usable on certain apps where as the incredible does anything your handset displays.
and rather then paying for the cable and having it not work i was wondering if somone with an evo has access to the incredibles cable to confirm?
thanks in advance

Video out 4 TV? for HTC HD2 is it possible?

Is their support for this? will a special cable be needed? or will we have this option not available?
Thanks for any info on this
No, not possible.
Have a search of this forum, there has been a few threads about it, and all of them have concluded that you can't.
The HTC Touch Pro had TV-out functionality? Why not the HD2?

No, you can't.
I know this post is old, but I have a nexus one and considered going back to WM for the HD2 bc like the OP, i missed the video out. I used it on my tp2 on my car.
I will assume your forum is correct, and for the next guy who googles this, I will explain why, and probably why they don't have it anymore.
HTC used to use a proprietary USB jack on their phones, like the TP TP2 Diamond, etc, that had 5 extra pins on the back side of the USB. This allowed you to use an htc video out cable, or audio cable, to transmit av over the usb cord. this is why you can use any micro USB car charger from a gas station, as I did more often than not, to charge your phone. But you cannot use your HTC charger on a regular micro USB phone. It won't fit other electronics.
Now my guess as to why they cut that option out:
Everyone complained about that proprietary jack. Moving GSM phones to a global charger standard is a hot topic the past year or two. Everyone complains about all the special cords that do the same thing, and I saw it in reviews of all htc phones. Few people understood the reasoning, bc HTC made you buy that cable seperately as I did so most people, especially those new to windows mobile, didn't even think to use their phones for TV out. Those who did know probably didn't buy enough of those cables.
And so HTC changes to micro and mini USB, as all new android and wm htc phones have, 15 people on XDA [including me] complain of losing video out, they lose like 50 dollars in cord sales, and 100,000 bloggers praise them for moving to a standard USB configuration. PR is a win, lol.
IMHO that really sucks. I install car electronics, and I'ld be willing to bet half the people I know who tried out an htc phone did it because they thought it was cool I could watch movies, browse the net, and play games on the screen in my car. I honestly didn't find many practical uses for it but I loved it anyways. Imagine a ps2 emulator playing a racing game with me using my phone as a controller and you'll get the idea. HTC is trying hard to make it to the big leagues, and like Microsoft with WP7, adopting to lower end consumers loses alot of favor with power users like us.
Not to start an argument... but thats why I moved to Android, and thats why my next phone will be the Incredible, video out or EVO 4g which has HDMI out, or samsung galaxy S, which has HDMI out... you get the picture.

The Touch Pro series had video out built in to the hardware on purpose and was advertised as having it. Not all HTC phones with mini-usb had video-out. And I'm pretty sure I was able to use my mini-usb charger from my touch-pro on any mini-usb phone or device.

somone with access to an evo test somthing... (tv out part 2)

ok so the tv out via the hdmi is limited to pics/video can somone with access to an evo see if you can use the verizon incredible tv out cable with the evo to have full ui output to tv if possible?
thanks inadvance.
i don't have an evo, but i highly doubt it's a cable issue. it sounds like a software toggle somewhere that is turned off. maybe it can be modified?

I am pretty sure we can find some way to modify it. Once it is rooted I'm sure this will be a pet project for quite a few of us devs.
I'm confused... you mean like a second desktop type thing for the EVO? Does the incredible do this already or something?

what i mean is what ever you see on your android device is viewable on your tv. so if your playing a game it shows on the tv, or a movie, or any ap etc if its on your handset screen its doubled on your tv.
the incredible does this ^^^ via usb out.
the evo only does videos (ie a mini dvd player) via the hdmi out cable
what i was hoping for is that the evo is so similar to the incredible if i where to try output thought he usb it would act more like the incredible out and less like a dvd player.

If you are poor, what are you doing with an EVO? LOL
But seriously, you might trry something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-RCA-Component-AV-Converter/dp/B002WBOQPU
or even something as simple as this:
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-RCA-VGA-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277764724&sr=1-1
or even something as simple as this:
the hdmi->rca cable is fake. does not work. HDMI is digital, rca is analog, wont work without a converter. I'm partial to the HD Furies, but the HD Fury 2 is what you would need (Green edition HD Fury 1 would work, but that has BNC ends not RCA)
the HD Fury 2 has a 3.5mm out and VGA out... so its very dependant on what your TV takes. Although once you get to VGA you would get a VGA->RCA converter no problem. Just be careful, alot of places sell fake ones.
I'm hoping someone ports over the usb video out capabilities from the Incredible. Is anyone even trying, or is that not possible?

Have DVI? If so: http://www.firefold.com/DVI-D-single-link-Male-to-HDMI-Female-Adapter-P1387.aspx
If not, you'll just need ANOTHER adapter for DVI->VGA.
If you go to DVI you will lose audio unless your adapter and going from digital to analog (dvi or hdmi to vga) requires an expensive converter box.

HDMI out From Micro USB?

Download a app called Twonky, it's free. start the Twonky app, while your connected to Wifi, once it's on fire up the ole PS3. you can stream stuff from your phone to your TV via the PS3. I do it frequently.
here is a cable for the g2x that does micro usb to hdmi...dont know if it will work since i havent seen anything that could enable/disable the feature on our phones

Lol wtf. The G2x uses a separate microHDMI port, not its microUSB port. This cord would likely be what will be used for the Sensation when it is released. I am not 100% sure, but I believe video out via this method (called MHL) requires slightly different internals than the standard microUSB port, thus would not work on phones lacking these internal differences.
I really want a phone with a Hdmi out port but it seems not to many Htc phones have this I been considering trading my phone for a G2X but I really love this phone but I would love to be able to watch movies from my phone on a TV. Being I travel from N.Y to Pa. a lot and I don't own a Ps3. I just don't think the G2x is better and they don't have to many Roms over there.
lol look at the dates.

[Q] output

being a total newbie to tablets i am looking to finally delve in with a nexus 10, it looks a amazing machine, and everything i am looking for, well except for one item.
i regularly use my laptop to give presentations, and need to connect to a projector via vga.
Colleagues use the iPad, and it is seamless, but personally i prefer the android route.
From all my research i have come to the conclusion that this is not feasible on the nexus 10?
cant beleive such a high ens spec machine cannot support it.
Please any one shed some light.
Thanks
kScot
VGA is low spec...
Get a HDMI to vga adapter.
Via my HTC Rezound
Adapters are cheap stuff. You will need two, though: micro-HDMI to HDMI, and from there, HDMI to VGA.
Thanks,
I assume then it just mirrors the screen?

It should, yes.
well, technically, it doesn't "just" mirror the screen, it should also output sound. still, i wonder, why you put "just mirror the screen" in your post, what more do you expect from a video out? cookies?

Whether the Nexus puts out enough juice over HDMI to power it though, who can say without trying it.

I feel for you man! At work we have to put up with the worst equipment paid for with ginormous amounts of money.
At my work, the technical coordinator bought a Smartboard, which is a giant touchscreen with a few software extras. It is about a 70" inch screen and has been introduced as the more expensive top model. Naturally, I brought some equipment to take it through a test drive - an hdmi adapter for my Galaxy S3 and some 1080p trailers.
Then came realisation - not only do they connect it via VGA to the presentation pc, it only supports 1366 * 768 max resolution (the S3 would happily output 1080p if supported). Piece Of Crap Deluxe. At least they extended a HDMI cable to where the PC stands, but it doesn't have a suitable graphics adapter. Will still look crappy anway when they eventually upgrade that one. :crying:
